Audio Player that works with Car Launcher Pro - Android Head-Units

Hi
I have, until now been using Agama launcher together with both Alexa, Amazon Music and Rocket Player (latter for local music). I've been trying to get Car Launcher Pro working with same.
With Alexa and Amazon Music apps, Car Launcher Pro's music control buttons and album cover display works just fine, but Rocket Player refuses to work with it (buttons do nothing, ditto album covers etc).
Wondered if there was a fix or if someone could suggest a player for local music that does work (not a file based player, rather one that will index the collection and list by album, artist etc).
HU is a Vanku PX6 Android 10 double-din running Hal9K's new V5.x
Thanks, Karen

I use Poweramp, paid version, on my Android. Strictly a database music player.
My data base is organized as artist/album/song track. Poweramp can be set up to recognize this.
It's setup is complex but it's extremely configurable. Allows for complete settings and playlist backup. As long as the data base is intact it can fully reconstruct playlists from the backup in under a minute or two for 6000+ songs. Supports unlimited playlists.
High res throughput. An outstanding graphic equalizer with the ability to save multiple EQ setups for albums or individual songs.
Rock solid stable. Zero issues.

Thanks, tried poweramp and it works, but its going to be hard moving from Rocket Player. Poweramp is damned ugly in comparison! I'll try and find some pleasing skins for it!

I haven't play with it's skins much. The current skin works.

Hi. To follow up on this, I contacted folks at my preferred audio player, Rocket Player and they came up with the missing config change within minutes. Now working grand, and ditched poweramp again.
Head to Rocket Player Settings -> System Resources -> Keep Notification and turn that ON.
Head to Rocket Player Settings -> Operation - > Third Party Controls and turn that ON.
Head to Rocket Player Settings -> Headset/Bluetooth -> Obey Headset Controls and turn that ON.
Head to Rocket Player Settings -> Headset/Bluetooth -> Support Volume Controls and turn that OFF.
It was the 3rd one that was missing.

Good to hear but I'm not feeling it. Poweramp is a keeper. I use it completingly offline.

Playing Gapless Albums in Media Panel

Greetings all!
I have the entire collection of MDB's Beautiful Voices Compilations, which consists of 40 gapless albums - so far - of Chillout bliss of different genres; essential for driving down the crazy streets of Cairo. I recently lost my iPod so I gave my X1 a try as a music player in my car today; copied one of the albums to my memory card and I was all set. The sound quality through AUX was pretty much the same (if not slightly better when it comes to bass) as that of the lost gadget.
Moving on to the important point, I noticed when playing this gapless album while the phone was on the “Media Panel” (Bluetooth Headset connected) that the files don't switch smoothly; sound stops for almost two seconds between tracks. The freeze is also there if I play the album from the “On the Road Panel”. I didn’t experience any noise what so ever when both players would move on to the next track.
I used the search function and couldn't find any threads about this. Has anyone else encountered the same problem? Is it well known? Is there a fix?! It's something that I can live with but I have like a 100 gapless albums in my library so it would be nice if I can manage to fix it.
Running R3A Generic UK ROM, no junk, no cracked software!
Note: Gapless Albums:
I'm quite sure you're all familiar with the term but for those who are not gapless albums are supposed to sound like one long connected track with no breaks what so ever, like listening to a live concert, or an Electronic music set, e.g. Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise, etc...
I know only 2 players who play gapless : Pocket Music, and Pocket Player. I use Pocket Player, it's pretty as nice as my iPod nano 2G.
+1 for pocket player. The only thing I don't like about it is that it takes a few seconds to open and is a tad slow to redraw when switching orientation. Great player though. Media browser as nice and easy to use as an ipod. Download the free fully functional trial. To turn gapless on, turn crossfade on and drag the overlap slider to zero.
Thank you all!
Thanks for the tip. I purchased Pocket Player. It sure works its way around gapless albums. But I'm in love with SE's media panel. I hope someone may find a solution for that soon.

better Playlist editor????

Hi all,
I have been trying to find a music player in the Market that can help me make playlists more easily.
In particular...
able to pick multiple songs out of different albums and not have to start over at the beginning of ALL THE ALBUMs!
Does anyone.. use a good music player that they can recommend?
Also on wish list but not required at this point:
-have stereo Bluetooth
-can control the music player with my Bluetooth headphone device
-has an equalizer
-have controls on the lock screen (similar to HTC's player)
Thanks for help.
Dan
No music player other than HTC's will be able to have lock screen controls.
The lack of EQ is due to limitations in Android's audio API. There is a player in Market that claims to have it, but it's $30... There's a free version, but I haven't tried it, because my headphones are decent enough that I don't need it.
I use MixZing specifically because it lets me queue up things from different categories. I don't use actual playlists though. No idea how well it deals with Bluetooth.
I just found a program to fix Bluetooth button on headsets.
claims to fix the other players.. so your headset can control the new player.
It must be new... because there were no comments by any user.
it is called: "Headset Button Fix"
but it requires the HTC player be removed.
If I do remove the HTC Player...
How do I get it back if it is not what I want??
thanxs

Music player

Anyone know of a good music player which has a resume function for each track?
I had Pocket Player on my HD2 which allowed me to stop one track, play another and then go back to the first track and continue where I left off. Used it a lot on audiobooks.
Alternatively, something that will allow me to set a bookmark on different tracks.
Even better would be one that does that and also still has music controls on the lockscreen like the stock player.
Not sure if I've come across anything like you want specifically for music.
If it's just for audiobooks, then try Ambling BookPlayer. It's pretty good at auto bookmarking what you are listening to, and comes with a widget too to play and pause books.
I'm using Ambling BookPlayer now and it's very good, particularly for my audiobooks and recorded drama. It's a bit of work to load the mp3 files into its library as it doesn't recognise the m3u playlists I have and it does not natively support album art but I liked it enough to buy the Pro version.
Mortplayer
Mortplayer Audiobooks in the market. Free. I used to use Mortplayer in WinMo and this seems much the same. Very reliable at saving where you are in each track. I have only used the android version for a few days but it seems OK and the WinMo one was rock solid, even picked up where I left off before a soft reset. Oh and there's a widget for it and it shows in notifications.
Worth a try.
im using mix zing lite

BEST audio player for ANDROID head units

Greets all!
I've just joined the Android Head Unit community with the installation of the ATOTO A6 (A6Y2721PB).
So far I love it with the exception of a few minor gripes.
The audio player that comes with it has terrible sort functions. OR basically non-existent sort functions. It categorizes (very badly) the music library into a few categories (Singers, Songs, albums, folders) and all poorly and inaccurately. If there was some useful sort functions under FOLDERS; this wouldn't be so bad, but there is not. It will not even sort alphabetically. It will sort by the number of tracks that is in each folder. That is worthless!
So I'm looking for a better player. I really don't care about STREAMING services support. It comes with Spotify and Pandora already and I don't use them. I'm interested in playing my 1000+ track music archive in the FLAC format. BUT I have to have adequate sort functions. Most all of my archive was not CD rips that does the CDDB encoding. I backed up all my original collection into WAV files a decade ago and that is the source. The only think I miss is the album art. The easy way is to have the album art store in each folder entitled folder.jpg. Many players will display that many don't recognize it. Also I need the player to support widgets so I can integrate the player into the home screen.
I've tried Foobar2000 and like the functionality but it is UGLY with only B&W menus and it does not support widgets. I'm going to try VLC but not sure it will handle music files as well as it does video.
Any suggestions out there?

There are many, many Android music players out there.... While opinions may differ based on users' experience, there's really only one that stands out for the use in a HU: PowerAMP . For me it's the player that has everything and is fully integrated in the Android system:
Great Audio ducking
Configurable widgets
Support for folders (and folder.jpg)
If not present, album art download
Has its own audio engine
Support for almost every car launcher
Beautiful album art support
and many more...
It takes some time to configure it the way you want to (don't need the visualizer for instance), but (almost) everything can be adjusted.
But to get the most out of if (that goes for every player), be sure to have your music properly tagged
I've got an old video on YouTube showing some PowerAmp footage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT0ewLZ8mOc

That's nice, but would not it be better if it have a integrated DSP chip in combination with poweramp?

Great, this is what I was looking for. I see the paid version is only about 4 bux. I'll try it and see if it does what it needs to. I'm ready to uninstall the player than came with the unit. Nothing but frustration.

Well it all depends on your speakers off course and I don't have a DSP. But I can tell you that on the Head Unit I have, the original sound was ok. After using and enabling PowerAmp's own engine and equalizer, sound was far, far better.
However, using Viper4Android (if you're HU is rooted) takes the sound to another level. I didn't even know my stock car speakers could produce such rich basses... I guess having a DSP would give you similar results.
Well gentleman,
I installed PowerAmp and paid the 4 bux for the full version.
Overall I really like it's feature and silky smooth operation. The issue I have is that the sound output level is about HALF of the other audio apps. This is a big problem since I have to turn the volume up much more to hear it's playback. I went under the audio tab and made different changes to the setting trying to get more output from it but no dice.
I'm going to email the developer on the issue. But otherwise this one is a keeper, I really like it's functionality.
BTW, The Atoto A6 does have it's own DSP chip for audio processing.

PowerAmp has a separate master volume control. Have you tried that? Also the equalizer has a master gain.

Yeah, I got on the PowerAmp site and looked through their FAQ page. It recommended turning DVC off if you have volume problems.
I'll try that after work today.
ive been using Power Amp for a while on my android head unit. It is the best of the bunch. The latest update has created issues playing music so until a new stable release was offered, I tried a few others and the rest are just okay. VLC was actually pretty good but I found that most of the players won't pass audio file text to the home screen widget and won't display my album art. So I am back to power amp. the dev has sent me a link to an alpha build that should fix my issue. I have just been too lazy to install it.
I got the widget working and was able to turn off the DVC function. The volume level is back to normal now so I'm really loving PowerAmp. It has features I really don't need or want but at least I can turn them off so they won't cause havoc unlike the other players I tried.
As far as the DVC function it seemed like a good thing but it just cut the sound output way too low. Reading on the PowerAmp site it stated that incompatibility with DVC will cause this. I'm wondering that this means. This unit (Atoto A6) has it's own DSP for audio affects like EQ etc. I'm wondering if that is the issue.
I also have a forward facing camera for the DVR and a backup camera. Plus various part to make all the USB connections accessible to the passenger compartment. I planned to install all that this weekend. Well didn't happen. The washing machine blew up and we ended up in town all day shopping for a replacement. Will get to it soon.
Hi. My problem with poweramp is that when someone calls me my headunit stops playing music and i am answering the call. But 1 second later music starts plwying again and i can not hear the caller and he cant hear me cause of the music...

GMMP is the best pick if you have a large music collection. I have 40k+ tracks on a mechanical HD on my head unit. GMMP will play through them no problem with an initial delay of about 30 seconds for the scan to get going. Poweramp craps itself and hangs for long periods of time (up to 60 minutes) while it scans/updates it's library. And then takes about 20-30 seconds to skip a track.
So my votes:
Small music collection, go for Poweramp.
Large music collection, go for GMMP.
I probably tried more than 20 apps, in the end it was Neutron that gave me the best results, I play only flac and have like 240 GB of them in my car, it works really flawless but you need to take the time to adapt it to your likes since really everything can be configured
http://neutronmp.com/
I've been using this for about 5 months, it's nice.. only thing bad is, it doesn't like to start in the SD card folder after starting up after being shutoff, so I have to manually browse to the SD card fold every time I start my truck..
It seems as all the dsp features do work.. there's a million things and settings in this paid app, seems to get updated regularly.. I wish it would leave the track list on screen all the time if wanted

Wow;
Not had that issue. What ever is playing it all mutes until the phone call is done on my ATOTO.
There are a ton of setting for everything in Power amp. Look through the settings and see if you can find a mute on call feature.
Have anyone been able to get an ipod to play through any app?

just tried this app, having similar issue. I think for me at least it gets totally confused when I plug in or disconnect another UDB drive. It seems as tho my HU(IDoing) shifts the USB volumes and neutron loses it's library. Otherwise the app seems near perfect.

Kospet music widget won't work with other players

Greetings.
Aimp has been my favorite Android player thanks to its folder-based playlist design, flexible equalizer and ease of use. Recently I purchased Kospet Optimus, but came across an inability to control Aimp playback with a system music widget. I can only control the default Music app with it, but not Aimp: if I try to use the widget while Aimp is playing, it will switch the playback to the music in a default Music app, and if I revoke the Music app permissions, the widget wouldn't work at all. I took a short video to illustrate the matter, but XDA says I can't post links until I reach 10 posts.
I could simply use Aimp without the widget, but I need volume controls to be in the same place as playback controls, because it's inconvenient otherwise. So how can I make the default music widget work with Aimp? By the way, it's the same situation with other players.
Regards.
