HD10 Netflix App Stopped Working - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Netflix app (v7.39.0) on my HD10 7th-generation (Fire OS 5.3.7.0) stopped working, displaying the error message: "Sorry, we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later. (-9)".
Resetting and reinstalling the app didn't help.
Netflix works just fine on my other tablets and Roku.
Anyone else is having this issue?
Is it a consequence of the latest Fire OS update and/or Netflix app version update?
Pointers/suggestions for solution would be greatly appreciated.

I found that the issue has been reported, no resolution as yet:
https://www.amazonforum.com/s/quest...one-having-issues-with-latest-netflix-app-739
https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P000072KJBtSAO/netflix-app

Does anyone have the 7.30 Netflix app I can sideload to downgrade please?

I had this same problem, but on my wife's HD 8 (previous generation) This happened after the most recent OS Update. I would get the same message as what you got (-9). I tried all methods ... clearing cacche, data, and even uninstalled.
Read on another forum that Google Frameworks/Play maybe the culprit, so I uninstalled the four Google APKs that was necessary for Google Play store. Afterwards, Netflix works again. the funny thing is, while I still had Google Play installed, I cannot find Netflix from the Store. I had to install from Amazon Appstore.
Another interesting point .. my HD10 was not affected, I can still pull up Netflix, eventhough O/S was also updated. I haven't installed the Google files back yet, so will see it Netflix continues to work after Google Play is back.
Hope this helps!

Older versions can be found at https://apkpure.com/netflix/com.netflix.mediaclient/versions, but recent versions seem to only come in archived file format xapk (for which I have not found a simple way to install).

I installed this version of netflix:
w w w. apkmirror. com / apk/ netflix-inc/ netflix/ netflix-6-26-1-build-15-31696-release/
Is working normal even with google apps

You're right, I found these too. If you uninstall your current version and use a xapk installer app to load 7.30 it will work again. Other versions may be ok too but this is the only one I tried based on what someone posted elsewhere. I have now also turned off auto app updates in the Playstore. Apkpure do an installer.

To download APKPure xapk files, use the APKPure app available at https://apkpure.com/apkpure/com.apkpure.aegon. I found that if I download an xapk file to my PC then copy it over to my HD then I would get parsing error using the XAPK Installer app (available at https://apkpure.com/xapk-installer/com.apkpure.installer) to install it.
Once an xapk file is downloaded to the tablet it can be installed using either the APKPure app itself or the XAPK Installer app.

My mistake ... My HD10 Netflix was eventually updated to version 7.39 and it did not work afterward. I uninstalled the Google Apps (Framework/Services/Play store) and Netflix works again. I then re-installed the Google Apps, but while Netflix continues to work, the Google Apps no longer function. It has an "error reaching server ... blah, blah" message.
Seems like you either get Netflix, or Google Play store, but not both. For now, I uninstalled the Google services.

See my post above re: xapk file installation.

Definitely has something to do with the Google stuff. I uninstalled the play store, it started working. I reinstall the play store it breaks again. Perhaps it's Amazon's version of the app that's checking for non Amazon app stores? Very interesting. Perhaps if we could get Netflix from the Google play store that could fix the issue. But for some odd reason it doesn't show up.
Edit: just to confirm, I only had to uninstall the play store. Not everything. I guess i can always install the play store when i need to install something new.

My Solution for this Problem was to install Netflix 7.38 via the APKPure App and i disabled auto-update for the Amazon Appstore, the Play Store can keep auto-updating since as far as it is concerned Netflix isn't installed on the device so it won't try to update it. Also for the ones that weren't aware, if an App is marked as incompatible with an Android Version it won't appear in the Play Store of Devices with those Android versions and it appears that the Netflix App is marked as incompatible with the FireOS versions, thus you can't download it via the Play Store. At least that is my understanding of how it works.
So far Netflix works just fine and my Fire just notified me that the Amazon Appstore would like to update it but i just swiped it to the side and ignored it, we'll see how it'll work out.

Has anyone tried the latest Netflix update released on 02/22?

What is the advantage to the tablet version? The phone version seems to format ok on the Fire's screen, and you can go full-screen with it.

Me too. I'm on stock 622 with root
Do I need to be rooted to install youtube? I get a parsing error with the tablet apk. I can download and install the regular youtube apk. But it immediately force closes when I launch it. Thanx.
Do you have Google Framework Services installed too? You don't need root for You Tube.

yeah i have gapps installed. so i have marketplace, gmail calendar, etc. the problem seems to be specifically with the tablet apk. if i recall correctly there is also an odex file that might need modifying as this particular apk was from a xoom. right now i am running youtube from the marketplace just fine.
i just want to get the tablet apk working as it has a better optimized view for tablets

Google Apps working without root.

I've been able to get most of the Google Apps working in the Kindle Fire HDX with simple sideload and adding account. Below is the video showing the apps working. Follow the link below for instructions and the second link to download the Google apps.

Errors
Hey man, this is great for the most part. However I followed your steps and I constantly get service errors no matter what I'm running. Have you gotten these errors to stop? Also have you found anything more about getting the play store to work?
Thanks,
Sean
Google play not working. Gmail is though. I'm using the play store by logging in via the silk browser, but unlike with the nexus 7 I just returned, I can't get the paid versions I've already bought for my Android phone. Im NOT paying rwice for the same apps (ie Poweramp). I like the Kindle overall, don't mind its Amazon overlay, but completely resent their blocking me from using their competitor's app-store. If they want to really go toe 2 toe with Google, let them develop a full new yet redundant operating system that rivals OSX & Android. Guess I'll have to root. Is not like they own every Kindle & we're just renting like the cable box for $10/mo.
These are not the droids you're looking for.
Yeah, I'm unable to get Google Play to work with this method, and it creates a lot of errors with services and wireless connections in the process.
For all of you having problems: did you also download and install google play services as well? I hear thats required for a lot of the gapps to work.
I can confirm the following apps work with signin and sync and so on:
Maps
Keep
Play Music
Youtube
Drive
Chrome Beta
Gmail
I did need to install play services 3.2.66. And i do get random "com.google.android.gapps" crashes even when not using a google app, but it is easily dismissed.
Hmm i see that the google services framework are version 4.0.4-338691, and the google account manager is 4.0.3-239410. Perhaps it would be better to use 4.2.2 versions (if they exist) ?
Anyone seen those around in apk format? (i've only seen them in the gapps packages for cm10.x and i think they need to be repacked, which i do not know how to do...)

That's exactly what i did. But those come in a .zip for flashing on top of a AOSP rom without google stuff. I'm pretty sure you can't just extract the apks and install them (at least not the one i tried). As i mentioned i expect they need to be repacked in proper apk form, which is something i do not know how to do.

It's simply a zip file containing the files GAPPS use and the command instruction including where to put all the files. At the moment, since there is no root, it's not possible to write some files to the system folder/directory. But for the APK files, if you install them it would put them on the user application space rather than system application space like normal GAPPS do on custom ROM(s). That said, not all the google apps will require those files to be in the system space. So, no worry there. You would simply unzip the file and try to install the apks and move the files to the user space if you can. That's the best you could do for now. I could write a little script file to do that as I did on the Nook HD+. Hence that's the root and GAPPS was done in the Nook HD+ at the beginning. I'm not gonna bother writing any script as I'm still waiting for my 2nd replacement unit. If this thing goes south again, I would just return the device and wait to see if I would get the new 2013 Nexus 7/10. I might even keep my eyes open for those 8inches Windows 8.1 tablet also.
Are notifications and background sync working for Gmail? I've read conflicting reports.
Thanks!

[HOW-TO] Install Google Play Store (Fire OS 5.X) (No Root/PC/ADB)

This's just a quick guide on how to get the Google Play Store installed on the latest Fire OS 5 for Amazon Fire tablets with no Root, PC or ADB required.
This should work on any Amazon Fire tablet released from 2014 onwards (4th Generation and above) that's running Fire OS 5.X.
NOTE (1): To install the required APKs, you may need a file manager from the Amazon Appstore, I used TOTAL COMMANDER - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H4IHJ8M/
With later versions of Fire OS or SILK, you can just tap the download notifications as and when you download the APKs or use SILKs download manager, removing the need for the above file manager.
Click to collapse
NOTE (2): You'll also need to enable 'Apps from Unknown Sources' found under Settings > Security of the Fire OS.
Click to collapse
Now simply download the 4 APK files below using the stock web browser, SILK and install them in that same order, then POWER OFF and RESTART your tablet and afterwards open up the Google Play Store and log in with your Google account:
1. Google Account Manager 5.1-1743759
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...unt-manager-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
2. Google Services Framework 5.1-1743759
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...s-framework-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
3. Google Play Services 11.5.09 (230-164803921)
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...s-11-5-09-230-164803921-android-apk-download/
4. Google Play Store 8.3.41.U-all [0] [FP] 170066753
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...41-u-all-0-fp-170066753-android-apk-download/
In future, the Google Play Store and Google Play Services apps will auto update themselves in the background.

Off topic question (does not pertain to device) - you'll need to ask your question elsewhere. And yes, different versions are needed depending on device type, capabilities and Android build.
I had to install latest Play Store version to get it all running on our Kindle Fire (think it's 5th gen). Version recommended above just went back to home screen.

Thank you. Google Play Services on my Kindle Fire crashed and wouldn't allow me to access any Google Apps including Chrome, Gmail etc.. The message indicated that the apps wouldn't work unless an updated version of Google Play Services was installed and it seemed like the update wouldn't go through. I reset my Kindle to factory settings and followed your instructions and it seems great so far...not asking for a Google Play Services update. Thank you again Gilly10.

Hi, so you can update FireOS. But what about the google framework? Does it get updated automatically? Or if a new versione will be released, do you need to unistall the 4 apk first, and than install a newer version of the 4 apk?
Seems this method is no longer functioning. Applications are not searchable - only the webview application comes up on search results. When I search for my previously downloaded applications, they come up, but state that the administrator has not given me permission to install this item.
Furthermore it is the Google Play store for Work?
Any thoughts? This is happening on 3x Kindle Fire HD 8 devices, all of which worked previously. Running 5.3.1.1.

parsing errors occur for a few different reasons
possibly one of these, but not limited to
app is not compatible with the os version
not much you can do about that other than try an older version of the app
there is a problem with the package installer
try wiping installer app data
some kind of caching error, or another app causing install failure
try a factory reset and/or flash firmware with adb sideload in recovery

Installing Google Play Service on Non-Rooted FTV2

So I have a FTV2 that I can't root (yet... hopefully) because it's on the 5.2.4 software - but I needed Google Play Services in order to run a particular program I sideloaded. Using the info in this guide:
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-inst...amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick-without-root/
I was able to get (what I believe to be) the latest working versions (for the FTV) installed. The program in question now works fine. Here's what I did (again, all credit to the above source... all I did differently is figure out and download the latest versions of each):
1) Download the following apks (I got all of these from apkmirror) and install in this order:
- com.google.android.gsf_4.0.4-488656 (this is Google Services Framework)
- com.google.android.gms_10.2.98_(030-146496160) (this is Google Play Services)
- com.google.android.gsf.login_5.1-1743759 (this is Google Account Manager)
- com.android.vending_6.8.24 (this is Google Play Store)
2) Once the above are installed, launch the Google Play Store and attempt to login. It'll fail. That's expected.
3) Hit home key and you're gtg!! Apps requireing play services should now work (at least they did for me).
I'm not sure if you have to do the play store part or even install the play store and/or the account manager, but I figured it couldn't hurt.
Hope that helps!
Didn't work for me. Still get the
"app(optus sports in my case - Australia) won't run without Google play services which are missing from your phone"
Thanks for trying to help though.

(I only need google play store to download one paid app, as it does not transfer across as a full paid app with apps2fire)
FireTV Software Version:- Fire OS 5.2.4.2 (574263120)
Fire TV Home Version 5.7.3-17
Non Rooted (Really do not want to root it)
Thank you for any help

Any luck with this? I was able to get past this initial issue by installing the Android TV version of the app which allowed me to open, but I get a spinning wheel and nothing loads so I am assuming the framework files are to blame somehow.
All I want is to install a recent version of espxe! As my current version crashes when visiting the preferences screen.
Any help most appreciated!!
Solved
Solved by installing most recent version of expse by transferring apk from device to fire tv so no need to install google play on fire tv 2
I installed and I can get the app to work. It is MSG GO. Now it is asking to allow location services. Thoughts?

So I have a FTV2 that I can't root (yet... hopefully) because it's on the 5.2.4 software - but I needed Google Play Services in order to run a particular program I sideloaded. Using the info in this guide:
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-inst...amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick-without-root/
I was able to get (what I believe to be) the latest working versions (for the FTV) installed. The program in question now works fine. Here's what I did (again, all credit to the above source... all I did differently is figure out and download the latest versions of each):
1) Download the following apks (I got all of these from apkmirror) and install in this order:
- com.google.android.gsf_4.0.4-488656 (this is Google Services Framework)
- com.google.android.gms_10.2.98_(030-146496160) (this is Google Play Services)
- com.google.android.gsf.login_5.1-1743759 (this is Google Account Manager)
- com.android.vending_6.8.24 (this is Google Play Store)
2) Once the above are installed, launch the Google Play Store and attempt to login. It'll fail. That's expected.
3) Hit home key and you're gtg!! Apps requireing play services should now work (at least they did for me).
I'm not sure if you have to do the play store part or even install the play store and/or the account manager, but I figured it couldn't hurt.
Hope that helps!

Hi,
I have the same FTV2 with the same 5.2.4.0.
And like you I need the Google Play Services for the same reason.
So I installed the exact versions of apks with same the order you provided.
But unfortunately when I launched Google Play Store I only got the cruel error "This app isn't compatible with your device. To fix this problem, go to settings and uninstall updates for the google Play Store App."
You mention that you downloaded the latest version (at that time). Any ideas which versions to download, since they are to many?
Thanks in advance for your kind answer!

Hi,
Can you be more specific on the solution you describe?
Thanks in advance!
Hi
My solution was that I didn't need to install the app I wanted (espxe PlayStation emulator) at all through an installation of google play. Instead I found another android device (tablet) downloaded the espxe apk on that and then copied it to the Amazon fire tv. I messed around with different framework versions but to no avail. I was able to get the 1mobile store installed a lot easier which has many apps but this didn't have the 'paid for' espxe.
Hello, i've got several apps which need google services to work. I am lost, i dont know what to do with my fire tv stick (5.4.2.4)

This
opengapps - Google Drive
Working on rooted 4k Stick. But 4k have android 6.
Analyze the .sh to know how to install.
All must be in /sdcard/opengapps/
Twrp install /sdcard/opengapps/open_gapps-arm-7.1-tvmini-20210406.zip
Twrp install /sdcard/opengapps/update_katniss-2.2.zip
Twrp install /sdcard/opengapps/update_katniss-4.5.zip
Twrp install /sdcard/opengapps/
For Android 5.
You can try
open_gapps-arm-5.1-tvcore.zip | by diegocr for Fire TV 2

Rooted HD8-6G: Amazon Store and Amazon Kindle broken

Hi - I have a rooted HD8-6G with Google Play that has been working flawlessly for a long time now. However, I recently tried to update the Kindle app and it always fails.
I then tried to open the Amazon Store app, and it immediately terminates upon opening. I figure that the two may be related.
Is this a known problem?
I suppose I can root my HD8 and start from scratch again, but if Amazon apps aren't going to work anymore, I don't want to waste my time.
Thanks,
¿GJ?

I'm sorry but because of the root Amazon's factory APKs think your running a non kindle firmware, because these APKs have the ability to receive more offers, download more content, etc. You may need to uninstall them and then install the default ones from the play store.

What do you mean by "have rooted with Google Play"??? It seems like you don't understand what term "rooting" means.
Unfortunately (or fortunately ), Fire HD 8 2016 (6-th gen) can NOT be rooted; all "guides" available on internet are the scams and bloatware/rootkits installers, nothing more.
Where is no way to root Fire HD 8 2016 (same as 2017) but literally nothing wrong with the FireOS. Anyone can install Google's services and Play store app, and enjoy "freedom" of the access to the Android apps world!

I don't think you are really rooted, i ran into the same issue after installing the google play store. Simply uninstall the updates installed by google for store and kindle and they will work again.
