after i root my devise ? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

hello i did root my op6t
and there is an app called
MAgisk
what does it do ? I mean I am an Apple IOS guy ...
could you help me ? also it says update it mine is (7.2.0) latest 7.3.2
thanks a lot

Rooting your phone without reading up about it before hand is a dangerous game to play.
There is plenty, and I mean plenty of information about Magisk out there, a simple search will go a long way.

thanks a lot for your advice
is it like Apple
like root it and then delete it make it original again? :good:

[somehow posted answer on wrong thread!?]

I suggest you to stay away from root until you've read enough about it...
Nothing is like iPhone here we're Android

Ehhh, like Linux, if you don't break Android once or twice, you aren't really going to learn anything.
IF you are already rooted and Magisk is installed find the OxyTweaker for Magisk module ( search this site) and install it. It is Viagra for your battery. Install Titanium and pay for the premium version......well worth it.....and AppOps and get to work on you phone.
I recommend the "freeze" option with Titanium until you actually know what you are doing. I also only grant temporary super user rights to both apps. Play around with removing google apps and getting a grip on app permissions.
I am a long time Apple Baby that converted in Feb this year. I can't see me ever going back to an Iphone. Just too much customization and control with Android.
All the best, JC

i have tried but still, i think its kinda hard, I am trying to install YouTube Vanced but I couldn't I did everything right on here :
link couldn't post it
I still need time and a lot of education vids
thanks a lot

Main reason that I rooted my phone is to block ads via block list instead of vpn. Second and probably better is that if you have a car or truck with android auto and want to use real GPS instead of Waze or Google maps. I love aa mirror + as phenotype changer. Which will mirror your phone and thus be able to use osmAnd from fdroid. Also being rooted you can use carstream to watch videos in your cars head unit. Also with magisk there are a few useful modules WiFi bonding and bromite come to mind.
Once you root YouTube vanced can be installed via magisk but also you can can download the apk and install that way too.
I been rooting phones since 2008 and fail to see how it is dangerous. Although some people due believe education is dangerous. Root never harmed me or my family and never threatened me or my health. A boot loop here or there a few soft bricks and a dozen or so voided warranties but no danger.

You WILL LOSE Root. There is a Guide in the Guides Section. Read that. Or if you need further help just ask.

I think there is a module with a script to do that. Just search update and keep root on the forum.

could you please provide me a link of that thread?
Thanks

Nope, but you should be able to search and find it. Saw it, but did not book mark it.

If you're on the stock ROM (Out of box OS). You can go into settings and search double at the top of the settings menu. There you should see double tap to wake as a search result and from there you can enable double tap to wake. Hope this was what you meant by double tap.

The apk name is listed along with the packagename in the list. If you are unsure what things are safe to block/disable. There are plenty of people on the forum that would be willing to help you.
I did not see the package name so I will have run it again and read more carefully or try to change the size of that field.

Here's one thing to think about also, by accident I blocked the Google stock email , not the Gmail. I went back to unblock and I had to re-enter all my emails back again. So what I'm saying after a block and then an un-block it wipes the app. Did you expect that to happen or should I expect that to happen for most apps be turned back on?
Thanks

Permission manager NON ROOT ( GUIDE )

Well last night I was fed up with my battery consumption as I saw that I had had GPS on all the time for no obvious reason. I wanted to root the phone as I have 815 EU model but googled to check that App ops or similar apps work in Lollipop and found an interesting thing about G3. It has integrated permission manager that can be accessed from activities and does not need root. Wondering would it still be there in G4 I found it and tried it and It works. Now I dont have to give Soundhoud my fine location, Chrome beta does not need camera etc etc. And as I have not seen this brought up by anyone I thought to share it with you and hopefully sort out some bugs like my GPS always on situation.
So in short download a custom launcher ( I use Nova Prime) or Activity launcer and find Settings in the list and in there Access lock activity and add shortcut. Open it up and you see a list of you apps and you can restrict all the permissions app by app. After that exit the app and you are done. There is no even need to restart the phone (of course it wont hurt to reboot). I tried that mine works with Whatsapp by removing camera permissions from the app and it cant open camera anymore.
Awesome, thanks for the info. It works great! This should help with holding me over until we get root.
Same for me. Id like to wait until unofficial root to retain locked status even though I could root now via Lg's tools. This might be one way to stop me rooting until better way comes.

Bizarre popup showing up on my web browser

I'm using Firefox as my web browser and I use the following add-ons: Bluhell Firewall, Full Screen, and uBlock Origin. Every once in awhile, maybe twice a day my browser would open up without my permission and alert me that my battery has a virus and it insists that I download whatever its trying to redirect me to install to "fix" the problem. I tried using CM security and Avast, both dont detect any malware and I dont visit any suspicious looking websites where this may have gotten picked up from. Maybe I downloaded some APKs I wasnt suppose to if anything. Any idea what I can do to fix this?
P.S. Is it possible to root the Galaxy S7 Edge at this time or still no? Its been 2-3 months since I last checked.
This is just Popup and a really ****ing annoying one too.
Seen it many a times, Hijacks the Vibrate function too.

I did mention previously I have ublock origin for an addon, are you suggestion to get adblock plus on top of it? I just didnt want to have two things conflict with each other or install more than necessary. (if you think I should drop the ublock in favor of it then ok)
If its not against the rules may I please have a link to a guide on rooting my phone? This is my first Android phone I've ever owned and I dont know the procedures in rooting. I've done jailbreaking on iPhones but I'm sure this is different.

Its a Add nothing more nothing less.
Ublock may block XYZ but its possible W may get through.
w = that advert you are complaining about.
Putting another Adblocker MAY work, But i also have a Adblocker and see this add slip through some times.

Rooting the Essential Phone PH-1

I know this is probably a very simple question but I have not seen it addressed yet. What's the best way to root the Essential phone? Is there a working TWRP available yet? Anyone have a guide? thanks :good:
There is no public development currently happening.
It seems very quiet in here as far as root goes. I hope some devs are buying this phone.
in another thread there is a link to magisk and rooting w/o a custom recovery, no one has tried to see if it works on our device.
As soon as FedEx gets over this long weekend and gets me my phone, I'll do the Magisk root and post about it here.
Until then, I'm just stuck twiddling my thumbs and doing other stuff.
I wonder if any custom development will become available for this phone. Yeah, we can unlock the bootloader (pretty useless without a custom recovery) and possibly have root via Magisk (which is fine on the stock ROM), but I have a feeling devs may be staying away from the Essential. Whether it's due to the somewhat negative reviews and new Pixels coming out soon.

in order to root w/ magisk via fastboot, we need the stock.img which isnt available.
It is my humble projection that the Essential will soon become one of the leaders in the ROM/development world.
Relax man... I've seen development for far less popular phones that were far more locked down... Most people that ordered don't even have their phones yet though... give it another week or two to pick up. I paid for my order about 2 weeks ago and it's not getting delivered till Tuesday or Wednesday and there are many others who don't even have tracking info yet.
You guys are probably right. Right now I don't even need root. There is no crap Ola I need to freeze with tibu.. I will still root as soon as it comes. This is the first time I bought a phone that did not come from a carrier.. Jeez what a difference

I want root simply so that I can add LMT pie controls, hide the nav bar and run adaway. Other than that, there's very little I need root for these days.
im looking to root for adaway and volume skip track. other then that i really have no other need to root. TB for apps would be nice as well.

Try Unique Controls (play store) for pie. Nav bar can be partially hidden with an adb code to enable immersive mode, however this seems to cause layout issues because of the odd status bar implementation. Unfortunately this affects LMT, hence my going with a different app for now. I have a Tasker profile going with AutoTools to turn off immersive mode in apps I know don't work, and I'm getting my full screen pie goodness in about 80% of apps.

The main reason that I use LMT or pie controls in general is so that I have a menu button.. mainly so that in chrome I don't have to reach all the way to the opposite corner to open the menu (since I hold the phone in my left hand 99% of the time). The menu button will not work properly on LMT if you do not have SEL set to permissive. I'm not 100% sure exactly what SEL does but I think its like the SELinux security policy for the kernel or rom. Not a dev, my knowledge is limited..lol I just know it needs to be set to permissive for stuff like that to work properly.
The only reason I want root is for themes but if I could just get my hands on a stock vendor image I could just manually install a Substrantum theme.

For ad blocking look up AdClear.
It's an on device VPN that blocks ads. No root required.
V4A or ARISE is a must for me. Especially when coming from the U11's excellent audio performance.

Any tweak to use full screen for any apps on OnePlus 8 Pro

Hi all! Does anybody know some tweak ui app to force full screen for all apps? Unable to use the whole screen is very annoying. I've turned off status bar due to screen burning after two months, but the upper line is always empty in portrait or landscape mode.

I am researching on this. On A10 you can use the magisk module "none display cutout". After install, in dev settings you have an option to completely ignore the holepunch area and swithching to fullscreen with gmd gestures lite will have truly fullscreen and no icons to burn in. Sadly this is not working on a11. Module will flash, holepunch will be ignored. But fullscreen mode will just turn off holepunch area
Thank you very much!
But I would prefer to not install twrp and not to flash magisk as well due to some reasons.
Just hope if exists some tweak app with adb granted permissions, like those for immerse mode.
Yes, thx,a solution would really be nice. I have been wondering about this.

I think you're going to struggle without root, you'd need to change some files in system, without root I don't think you can.
Have you checked on the display cut out in developer options?
Haven't used it but may offer every you want?
Check out the other OnePlus forums, they're longer established and may have mods which can be adjusted for this OS, or possibly it may even work as is..
Hope this helps.

Really? I didn't get any of that, tbh though I don't think I actually clicked that one.
Find it hard to believe that OnePlus would leave that in.
Would assume that safe mode would still work.

could you post this exact command sir? this is one of the biggest things on paranoid about, they're not being a good version of TWRP for 11
There's definitely a lot of dead space up at top reserved for the humongous status bar icons, a good 0.5".
Should have made them smaller and further up the screen. Like others mentioned this task will be probably zero achievable without root etc.
