Is HTC forgotten U Ultra ? - HTC U Ultra Questions & Answers

On black friday i have buy myself the U Ultra for a good price and i was thinking wow wat an awesome deal and oreo plus Next year p also when HTC respect two years updates but unfortunately is the dream Broken because they're is a new flagship u11 (+) and life that get al love from HTC Company so they drop the promises to suport u ultra in the garbage bin. The silence by the HTC Company about u ultra say enough for my feelings. I know my English is terrible but i am afraid that HTC is forgotten that many People that buy U Ultra expect that they also get suport for An reasonable time.

Seems you are right. There is Android 7.1, Android 8.0 and Android 8.1. Ultra didn't get a single android update yet- Guess that's why it was so cheap lately. It is stuck on 7.0 october patch.

still in this month update to Oreo 8.0, in the first place will receive dualsim phones

Well i don't think that our phone is forgotten. HTC confirmed that we will get oreo and i suppose that this will happen in spring. It is completely normal current flagship (u11) to get the update first. U11 life got it so fast as android one compatible device (meaning that it gets almost pure android which is easy to adapt fast). I come from LG phone and there the situation with updates is worse there. The fact that we got the october security patch shows their commitment in my opinion. We will see how it goes but at least for now i am rather optimistic.

HTC 10 receiving oreo in US. This surprises me. I expected our u ultra to be the next. Let's hope that we will also get our update soon as our hardware is practically the same as the 10.

for me another sign that they don't care about u ultra anymore. guess it has a really tiny user base anyways.

Just be patience most of the device didn't even get android n update XD. Better wait and let the dev make an optimized/healty update.

I just bought one of these direct from HTC UK for £290. I am expecting it to receive Oreo, that has been reported in several different websites (although maybe from the same source?). I am looking forward to playing with it, the last HTC I had was the One X, which was a brilliant phone.

I sent a DM to them on Twitter and they were like "Yea, we know you are interested in having the latest Android version on your phone, and you'll get a notification when an update is available." which was a total non-answer. I left it at that, as I didn't feel they would be forthcoming. I'm thinking it'll stay on 7.0 forever.

It'll be soon...

HTCs update strategy really sucks. The Ultra is not even a year old and falls behind the 2 year old 10. Im currently back on my HTC 10 to enjoy Android 8. The Ultra is most likely my last HTC device. Dont get me wrong Im a big HTC fan since the M7, but their stupid decisions are nothing but unprofessional. Ok i got it the Ultra is a very unpopular device, but its highend hardware and price deserves fast updates. im glad i payed less than the half of the retail price. The HTC 11 is sadly a complete failure, as its body is so weak you can bend and twist it like rubber. No comparison to the super solid HTC 10, and also the Ultra is harder too bend although its feature a bigger display(s).
To say at least sth good. HTCs Android 8 version feels really great. Finally you can use the stock launcher as its almost stock android like and no fu**ing blinkfeed. Overall speed improved. Even Antutu scores higher. What a shame its not on the Ultra yet...

Hey mate, where did you get this information from? Does it still hold true? A brand new ultra owner here and of course use have other HTC's lying around.
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

In august HTC announced Android 8 for the HTC U Ultra, Since then silence. It's pretty much safe to say it's dead.

They released it for htc 10 which has the same hardware so i expect recent release for u ultra as well.

HTC 10 has a different SoC, a different FrontCam. A different Screen, no Second Screen. There is still a lot to do I guess. The Userbase must be much much smaller. Maybe they stopped it, maybe they work on it but with less Ressources, so it will come out when Android 9 is released. I wouldn't keep my hopes high.

SoC in U Ultra is snapdragon 821 and in htc 10 is 820. I doubt that there is too much difference between both. Regarding the second screen and front cam you are correct but i doubt that they will cancel it. Lets see what will happen.

Sorry to hear the above posts - the missus wants me to have a 2nd phone that I don't play with so I can always be in contact and I was thinking the U Ultra looked a good choice. An apparent lack of support often means an orphaned phone so I guess I look elsewhere.

Update coming Soon......

At the moment there are pretty much no ROMs available anyways. You can still root the phone. I am sure that Sony will provide a bootloader unlocking solution that doesn't break the camera soon.

Google Announces Android M - Will Xperia Z1 Ever Get The Update?

Google announced the Android M update at I/O 2015 keynote. Android M takes Android L and optimizes the **** out of it.
- Better battery life
- Android Pay
- Fingerprint support
- USB Type-C
- Enhanced Google Now
- App Permissions
That's a power-packed features list, eh? More about Android M features here. Also, the Android M Developer Preview is already available.
I wonder if the Xperia Z1 would ever get the Android M update, seeing that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update itself won't arrive until August 2015.
highly doubt it!
Yes, an the Android XL also.
If the z had received lollipop, maybe z1 will get android m.......should be possible....
I also highly doubt Z1 will get it. As of right now, I only hope Z1 will receive a fully stable no bug (no battery drain, no sound vollume problem, etc.) 5.1. Besides, I don't think Z1 can get much benefits from M anyway (like those fingerprint support or usb-c or even Android Pay since it's clearly not available everywhere)

Sure an update is always welcomed. It's just that we shouldn't really get our hopes up. In my opinion, It's already Sony's best effort for Z1 if it get 5.1. By the time M is official released, Z1 will probably be way over the 18 month support period by Sony. But who know, just my guess, maybe Sony will surprise us (in a good way )
BTW, is there any dev working on porting Android M developer preview for the Xperia Z1?
I'd like Android M, but if we don't get it then 5.1 had better solve the issue with the mobile radio staying active and causing ridiculous amounts of battery drain.
I guess one thing to keep in mind is that the Z got 5.0.2, so perhaps they will only drop support for the Z given how different the hardware is, while the Z1, Z Ultra and Z1C all share very similar hardware. From what I can tell, the hardware hasn't changed all that much since the Z Ultra aside from the Z3+/Z4 which is using an octa-core S810 compared to the quad-core S800/S801 inside most of the rest of the Z series. Whether that has much sway on development time I wouldn't have any idea.
If they can include Auto Backup for Apps http://developer.android.com/preview/backup/index.html Also using your micro SD card as internal storage.... http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...or-accessed-normally-with-no-additional-apps/
That would be great for those who don't root their handset
Even Z can get updated to 5.1 i think Z1 can at least get 2 more major updates. So yes
Of course not. I understand we all love our devices, but guys, it's just marketing. However, let's hope someone ports it to our Z1, otherwise, we may need to buy something new in the near future.

i think it will recive M because the original z will also receve 5.1.1 so probably the z1 will recive the last android version as android M.
That's really nice! At least that smells good!

No marshmallow upgrade for Z1 or Z1 compact!!

Sony are busy congratulating themselves about bringing the new android 6 Marshmallow upgrade to Sony devices.

Think it's pretty crappy that the Z1 and Z1 compact are not included. Great expected life cycle for their products. Most new handsets in UK are on a 2 year contract. Shame they can't provide updates for at least that long before expecting you to get a shiny new phone (with another 2 year contract).
Seriously thinking that the Z1C will be my last Sony product.

That would be really a shame, the z1c isn't "old" and there are no hardware limitations for getting an update. z1c was released in Europe January/February 2014.
I was opitimistic until today that my device would get the Marshmallow update. I'm curious if they will at least deliver security fixes for 5.1.1.
When you say that you will now switch to another brand - well, please tell me, who sells a smartphone < 4,7 " with high end hardware and better support?
Good question grisu59964. Hopefully by the time my contract is up in May 2016 something new and shiny will catch my eye.
I've had Sony phones since they bought into Ericsson and to be honest they're not always great. Loved the 1st Walkman phone. (still have it in a drawer) But the Xperia U stands out as a particularly bad example. It couldn't even run Sonys own update to ICS.
Still, even with its faults like not locking the screen while its against my ear during a call, or the mysterious battery drains, random restarts, music player volume and the previous shoddy updates I do kind of like my Z1C.
I guess it's nearly time to root and add a nice custom 6.0 rom.

Thats sad. I still hope 6.0 will come to z1 even if its not in the list. Like some said, there is no sence on leaving the z1 behind with a Snap 800. I would like very much to see the efficiency of the battery saving that has been developed in 6.0.
yes, it is sad, but I hope there will be CyanogenMod 13 very soon

I've got a S6 and Z1c. In my experiences, Samsung camera focus speed blows Z1c away(picture quality indeed Z1c still doing good though not as nice as S6) but if you need waterproof and microSD then Z1c better and much cheaper. Alpha is a bit expensive, you should compare it with Z3c in this price range.

Quiet simple : xiaomi is the choice i will change to. It's a software engineer, using the phones as a bridge between user and software. They're producing without win merges, the only contra is the online selling and the shipping duration. Regarding price - hardware related stuff it's the best at the moment.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi has only devices starting at 5" display size (size comparison). And who says that Xiaomi will provide software support in two years? Unfortunately, not really an alternative.
For now, I hope that CM 13 will make us forget that we use officially obsolete hardware.
heck. Z1 Compact is exact same specs of Nexus5 and not getting Android 6.x?
Z1C is more than capable. its just that Sony wants us to upgrade to Z5 Compact, so they won't make official marshmallow rom for it.
its the usual term : planned obsolesence.
As the updates are flowing in, i feel we've been followed much closely now, so on second thoughts, I'd go back to symbian and have Linux based laptop, sorted. Why can't we port gingerbread on contemporary handset? An OEM will never be complete and a custom rom would never match OEM's algorithms, catch 22. Look where CM had started and what now it has become same sh*t in different way.
Every company wants control but I have faith in Developers, especially independent. And all this "security" thing is overrated, what are trying to hide anyway? rather from whom? I mean, as a consumer.

Meh ..
Side question, If I Bootloader unlock my Z1c, i know i lose the DRM keys, but what exactly i lose in functionality ? lower camera performance like on Z3c?
It would be shame if Sony would just drop Z1c. Leaving it with Stragefright 2.0... The phone should get the update.

Judging from driver issues(ex: No 5GHz wifi listed on some device, and terrible wifi speed) on both 5.0.2 & 5.1.1, SONY seems to doing copy & paste the rom source from another variable like Z2.
Will there be any differences between SONY's official and ported ROM from Z2? I guess no.
No hating, but I suggest we all turn up the heat with Z1 getting 6.0. I mean look at the Z, it received updates up until 5.1.1, so it doesn't seem logical that the Z1 being a much newer and higher spec phone compared to the Z gets up to 5.1.1 only. We should get the 6.0 update. As for the Z, IMHO it's update until 5.1.1 is already a welcome farewell to the grandfather beast. Because of the Z, Sony has come along way.
Z1 got 4 major updates, more than most other phones, why are you all complaining it is being ditched?

Mostly because the updates where just all a mess except 4.4.4
But my mayor concern is if the Z5 sales fail - Sony will for sure sell their Xperia department this time ...
I was really keen to get a Z5, but considering the awesome specs of the Lumina 950 and 950XL, updates as you are used to get them on Windows I probably give it a try. Continuum is just to good to be true. Would the 950 be Waterresistant, no doubt at all to move...
Some people fighting for latest firmware. And there's people like me who still staying with Kit kat for stability and stuff.

The core of the ROM is mainly from another device such as the Z2, but they're built against specific device configs. It's really not that complicated and it's something that Sony could easily support as it'd be no different to what they've already done with Lollipop.
The Nexus 5 is similar to the Z1 and that'll be receiving Marshmallow. Hell, the Z2 isn't all that different from the Z1 either. The only difficult part to deal with is the camera, but it's not like Sony can't get it done.
People should keep complaining and demanding the 6.0 update for the Z1 and then we might end up with an update, but if people sit quiet and don't even bother to ask about it then we'll be stuck on 5.1.1 unless you want to unlock your bootloader and install ROM's that will never be 100% stable.

Whats your next phone?

After 2 great years with my mate 9, I have to say it's been a good experience but it's time to move on. Because Huawei is locking up their bootloaders, restricting lots of stuff and the lack of custom roms, I'm think of going for the OnePlus 7, Mi Mix 3 855 snapdragon/ Mi 9, maybe for Sony's new flagship or something interesting coming out in Q1.
Do you have any suggestions?

That's the fact I hate about huawei, my mate 9 was really good...
I'm thinking about taking Samsung galaxy note 9 when I get enough money to buy ?
I went with the OnePlus 6T for one reason. Lack of support for USA models without having to root/flash.
Understandable, considering how the U.S. government threw them out.
Had 3 mates, loved them, flawless, good value, but, with no security patches, or other updates, I went to the
OnePlus 6T.
Probably the latest Mate whenever I want to upgrade, most likely in 2020 or very late this year. This is a very good phone, also updated pretty well so I have no complaints about that.
No more bootloader unlock? Yeah, no more Huawei for me (or recommendations for others)...
That's the thing like I really miss having custom roms and now that Huawei is being more closed (they are even blockingg third party launchers) it's a real bummer that I can't be free with my own phone and can't get any support from the xda community. My wife has the mate 10 pro and loves it so much and I love the mate 20 pro too it's such an amazing phone but no bootloader unlock is a deal breaker for me
Next one for me I think is going to be a Oneplus (whatever number is out at the time). Samsung can go take a hike after all the crap I've dealt with, even my Work device (Samsung S8) doesn't get much use. I convinced the wife to get a OnePlus 6 and aside from some network issues (I think my carrier is the issue, not the phone), its been really great.
.....anything except huawei
There isn't any phone really appealing to me right now, and my Mate still works great.
I might change the battery at some point to keep it fresh, but I don't plan on changing it anytime soon.
