Please Help- No audio on Moto G4 Plus (Completely zero sound) - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hey Guys,
Now my Moto G4 Plus is facing a weird issue. No Sound from speaker and headphone. The microphone is also not working.:crying:
But the bluetooth headset is working Fine.In the first time of occurrence, a restart solves the issue. But after some restarts, the method of restarting is not working for gaining or achieving sound. Now my phone have zero sound. But some times the phone's speaker, headphone and microphone(everything works fine).
I thought it was a software issue. Therefore, i tried all ROMS including Stock(Marshmallow & Nougat) and Custom ROMS. Unfortunately the flashing didn't fixed the issue.
You guys may think that it's a hardware issue. But if it's a hardware issue, then how the phone was completely operational without any single bugs at sometimes(Perfectly fine at those times).
What's not working now:
*External speaker
*Headphone jack
*Microphone
Please Help Guys

The problem is after the June Security Patch update which have upgraded the Bootloader (bootloader once upgraded can't be downgraded). Therefore I can't relock the bootloader(still there is no firmware from Motorola built with June security patch).I have warranty. But if the problem is with the motherboard, it'll take 60% of the phone's entire price to replace it

Just to confirm, you've performed a factory reset, cache wipe and without any apps (besides the stock apps), and you still get the speaker/microphone issue?
Is the headphone jack clean as well?

Yeah exactly.I can also hear the 'Hello Moto" booting up sound sometimes. Don't know whether it's a software issue or a hardware issue.

I did the same on a friend's XT1644 and still no sound.
I think the problem is worse. Sometimes the phone boots with the Hello Moto bootanimation, with sound. Other times, the same bootanimation without sound. Most of the times, the phone boots with a static blue motorola logo.
Sometimes audio work on headphones. Most of the time doesn't.
I've flashed the stock ROM with june security patch and I can't downgrade because the bootloader is new.
Any tips?

I had the same problem in my moto G4
My problem was a hardware problem, earphones plug did not have contact because I polished my camera glass with toothpaste and all inside was a toothpaste mess, I cleaned all contacts and magic! It works! Maybe you have a hardware problem, issue in the plug or speaker

I'm having the same problem, phone boots with a static blue motorola logo, no sound, no mic. I just got the phone though and it worked for about 2-3 weeks. I would have thought if it was a security patch in June I would have gotten it sooner and had problems right away.

Hi guys, i will try a solution for this bug, but i need of the folder proc/asound, can anyone disponibilize for me?
Sorry my bad english, i'm brazilian.

Has anyone found a solution. Please inform soon even I'm facing this issue.

Did anyone find solution for it. Having same problem.

I think you are write but yesterday when I was listening to music with a pair of earphone connected to Moto g4 plus. And when I removed them then the sounds were not coming from speakers. After that I do a factory reset and the problem was solved.

I have what appears to be the same problem. I have an XT1625 running Android 7.0, security patch level 1 April 2018, build number NPJS25.93-14.7-8. The phone is bone stock. Bootloader has always been locked.
My problems began when the phone began to reboot on its own two or three times a week, then I noticed I had no audio from time to time, and a reboot restored the audio. Then I ended up with no audio at all, where I am now.
I have booted into safe mode with no improvements, then performed a factory reset. The phone boots most of the time now with a static blue motorola logo, and I notice that the screen dims about halfway through the boot process. When the phone finishes booting, I get the following notification: "Configuring your mobile network retry x of 5" after it retries 5 times, that notification goes away.
No application requiring sound works. I can send a text via Hangouts, but when I try a voice call using hangouts, nothing happens.
I'm thinking the phone is now a toy for my granddaughter, but I thought I'd check in here in case anyone has any related information.
Thanks for any help.

Welcome tot he forum
Hoping that is not a hardware related problem I would do a reflash to try to solve it
Read in the Wiki on how to
Hope it helped,
That happens one day in the car travelling home that the sound suddly stop working i restart the xda and everything (not reflash) but nothing work i will try to reflash it because i think is not a hardware problem
is the first time i try to reflash my pda but i have a problem when i try to downgrade it that shows error 260 and i dont know how to fix it
ok, i fix the problem with upgrade xD my english is not good at all and i missunderstand some of the instructions, but after read 100k of threats and 5 hours trying things now is upgrading to tomal rom i hope that this will fix the problem i had before
after reflashing the ce two times the sound is still not working, i am updating now the radio from 1.09 to 1.15, the stereo speakers make a little bit of noise when a sound is played, the headphones dont work, the phone speaker works propertly, and the microphone works but only send the voice to the phone speaker ¿? i dont know why happens this last thing
radio updated and the problem continues anybody can help?
I think it´s a hardware related problem
Try to take it to a repair center
Good luck,
I have the same problem. When a sound is played it just clicks and that's all. I had a problem with my ribon cable and I took it out. I've done that before (it's my second cable failing), so I knew what I was doing. I was off for a about a month untill I got a now cable. When I put it back together, I had no sound, just that click thing. I can't take it to a repair center. If anyone has a solution, please share.
I also found that my camera does not work. It says Failed to initialize camera. 36001:100:1. I tried a different rom, but still have the problem.
Also I tried to make a phone call (I'm not using it as a main phone, that's why I just found that out) and I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me.

PD: orb3000 muchas gracias por ser tan atento
I have good news. Something happened. I dont know what i did... but i got my sound back (and camera. main camera at least).
As you I flashed the rom, then the radio rom and I still got the problem. So I thought I'll leave it like that untill I find a solution. And I thought.. well i can at least play some games on it and I downloaded Archibald. I put it on the phone. Started it and ?! I had sound. Again I dont know if I did something before that, but I got it working. I'll attach the game, maybe it did something. Give it a try.
Again I have no idea what I did. It might have some bad connections somewhere. I remember I had the same problem (either with the Universal or the Wizard) but dont remember how I fixed it.
Here is a link for the game:
i install it but the miracle didnt happens i also will try to remove the battery it have on the motherboard to make a cmos clear (like in a normal computer). Lucky you i will keep trying
I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't if it matters but my small mb battery is dead. Apperantly it died during the month the battery was out. Everything works except that when I do a soft reset, the clock resets too.
I have these problems too, does anyone know the specification of the mobo battery?
I have the sound problem but mine doesnt work even with headphones in and i also have a problem with the keys being activated when the screen is in a certain position. Could all of these problems be casued by the ribbon cable?Rob
As far as my expirience goes with the ribon cable, it commands the touch, the lcd, mic, speaker on the lcd part. the keyboard has it's own cable. and it snaps to the motherboard. maybe it's loose or something. For the battery I got http://cgi.ebay.com/Dopod-D900-900-T-mobile-MDA-IV-Qtek-9000-backup-Battery_W0QQitemZ350170469398QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGPS_Accessories_Cablesthis on ebay. But mine looks a little different.
also happens to me when i make a soft reset the clock also restart could be all because the mb battery is dead?
OK, we are getting somewhere Since my sound got back, whenever I reset I get to keep my current time. So maybe my mb battery fixed itself or charged.
I am pretty sure now that is what's causing the problems. If you could disassemble your pda, try playing with the battery. See if it is not loose or something. Try to short-circut it. Get a something form metal and touch both pins. Also try leaving your PDA charging over night.
I hope you fix it since I cant seem to find that kind of battery over the internet.

Hero LED's don't work any more

Hi everyone,
up to today, I was totally happy with my HTC Hero (unbranded).
However, the LED's (both on top and the trackball) do not show any sign of function any more.
The phone has not dropped and was not exposed to heat or anything.
First I thought this might be a software bug, but even after a hard reset, the LED's don't come up at all any more (even not if charging the phone).
Anyone else here with a problem like that? Any solution yet?
I almost can't imagine this is a hardware fault but on the other hand if the hard reset doesn't fix it, what could?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
Hi.
I can ask the very same question too... I have had the HTC Hero since the friday before yesterday and after a couple of days the LED's simply stopped working. I had thoughts about trying a factory reset but with your posting it seems it would be in vain... :-(
So yeah... count me up on this one...
UPDATE:
Today it is Sunday and the time here in Sweden is 22:05 and I had to do my very first hardcore hardware reset (HOME+BACK+POWER) since every radio in the phone simply stopped working. After the reset was done the led's still won't light up when charging...
The LED at the top doesn't light up for missed calls/texts/emails anymore (the trackball still glows)... although it does still flash for batt.low/charging it doesn't for anything else... I'm pretty sure it used to... or am I mistaken??
mine died 2 days ago, also did a hard reset and still nothing....today my headphone jack stopped working, just plays the music through speakers and ignores the headphones totally :/ not amused :/

You just made me realize it's the same with mine
- LED's don't work (top and trackball)
- Button lights don't work
- headphone jack doesn't work any more either
So all these things seem to belong together...

What software have you got installed? Is this a similar thing like TasKiller that killed the clock so Alarms didn't work?
Then again, you said you did hard resets... But if you did a hard reset, it shouldn't be the software of the phone as thats back to normal.
Try taking the memory card out, only thing I can think of!

This happens when a bluetooth connection has been made. It ignores the headphone jack. Close the connection in bluetooth settings and it ill be fine.
Don't quote me on this, but I think I remember seeing an option in the phone setting section that controls the track ball and what not. It may be worth having a look.

Well... no :-/.
BT isn't switched on, 3,5mm headphones aren't even recognized after a hard reset any more.
This is not a software thing as it seems, at least not one the user can repair on his own.

Yeah, you're right, there is an option for that. I've switched that back off and on a thousand times before and after hard resetting the device, that doesn't help unfortunately.

Yeah... I only got standard soft like shazam and streamfurious installed. Then after the hard reset, only stock software was on it of course...
Seems like it's a hardware defect or something the user cannot influence software-wise. May hard-resetting doesn't reset everything in the phone, who knows. I even took out SIM and SD card, no luck.
However this is a bug HTC should look at closely, people are complaining in several forums and it seems like I'm not the only one with this issue...
i don't use BT, never turned it on and just checked, it's obviously off :/ don't remember coming across a trackball option in settings, but Notification option is on :/
let's just assume that it's not our doing since so many people have same 2 problems
Mine packed up last night must be a tech issue I think heat
sorry for asking a silly question though. is the led supposed to flash on missed calls or messages? cause the only time mine works is when charging.
I have the same problem. after a few days the headphone simply wasn't recognized. And at the same time the LED's and trackball lights were broken.
Hard reset didn't work.
It was after I rooted the phone.
How was that with you?
For the headphone problem I found a workaround. This switch-widget turns the headphone back on and the speaker off.
http://code.google.com/p/toggleheadset/
same here, check topic Q&A but here also the alarm doesnt work correctly...djeezes;..
same here!
well i have the same problem whit the LED's.... just stop working aften 3-4 days of use
maybe we should all write to HTC to complain as a group, this definitley looks like a manufacturing fault to me , esp as it is happening so soon after buying and using

Sound on my galaxy note 2 is muted

I just bought the device yesterday new, and from the first use i had a weird issue, the sound is muted, all sounds , music play, calls with speakers on and screen sound, sometimes it works and sometimes not, when i plug the headset i can hear everything
Any solution ? i won't wast my time to go the warranty, is it software or hardware issue ? i did factory reset and still the issue come back
Seems much like software issue, have you downloaded and installed latest N7100 firmware? With odin you can do it "officially" without losing warranty.

Wow, this stinks. If it were my brand-spanking new phone, I'd return it. It almost sounds like a solder issue. My Note 2 has a very loud speaker with excellent quality (nice bass) while listening to podcasts. When on a call using the earpiece, it's actually too loud. I haven't figured out how to turn it down yet, not a critical issue.
Do you get sound at the Samsung logo when you restart the phone? If not, it's a hardware fault and exchange it.

The weird thing , sometimes the sound of Samsung logo working at the start up and sometimes not ... when i just got the device and start to unbox it and turn it on .. it didn't make a logo sound .. but later sometimes it does !!!
i gave it to Samsung today and they told me it will take 5 days .. they will make new software format and then check the hardware . i hope they detect the problem cause sometimes it works fine for hour and the sound disable just happen for minutes !!
Any Ideas ?
Thanks for reply
Also, go into the dialer, type in *#0*# and go to the Speaker to see if it works.
I went to the warranty and they told me it will take 5 days for troubleshooting, they said first we are going to install new software then you will have 48 hours for testing, if the problem persist they will change it for me , i don't know if they can discover it, Also here's some link for some users have the same issue :

try pressing on the main speaker, the point of contacts of most phone speakers are just behind or sides of the actual speakers just to rule out loose contact. also try to master reset if it doesn't work try reinstalling the rom to rule out software problem. Otherwise, I would return it for a replacement. Good luck.
Edit:
If pressing on the speaker temporarily solves the problem, I would still ask for replacement.

I have exactly the same problem since Sunday. I was originally running the Antares One/Alucard CM12 build and the sound stopped. I reflashed it, reflashed the official CM11 and now I reflashed the stock rom, all with factory resets, but nothing. On the stock ROM it is the same thing as you - startup sound 80% of the time but nothing after. The sound worked once for maybe 30 seconds but that's it. Also phone is always rebooting/freezing with system ui stopping. It is really frustrating.
I am using the SGH-I337M (Rogers Canada) Galaxy S4.
Thank you.

Here you can get the latest modem for your phone. The idea is that it MIGHT fix the sound problem. Many people say it does.
The only other thing I can suggest is that you flash the stock rom again, via Odin.
I did this for my phone and now stuck at the Samsung bootscreen with know waranty void 0x1
I installed a new speaker - still no sound. So except if it comes from the inside connectors, it seems to be a software issue. But I don't understand how it persists after wiping everything and reinstalling any ROM - stock, CM11, CM12....

Yes I tried everything...
So I took the phone apart to verify that everything was well connected on the logic board, everything was ok but i still reconnected everything and nothing. From what I understand the problem is the Audio IC on the logic board [1], that's why I can't play any videos also.
The audio IC needs to be reheated, but I do not have the tools/experience to do it. I looked for logic boards, they were 70$ on iFixit but are now discontinued, and I am not sure if they will be available in the future. On eBay they sell around 200$, and at that price it's not really worth it considering the age of the phone and it also doesn't guarantee its gonna work. I prefer to add more money to buy a One Plus One or Moto X, even if I don't have much money.

Still no sound after various room flashes, I get random restarts and booting with no signal/inoperable screen until the phone restarts again, once in a while I get sound on start up of the Samsung logo.
I've triedwiping cache partition and factory wipe, flashing wifi fix and bootloader
Don't know where to go next!

Looks like the problem is the "Audio IC" Chip, but a really don't know either. I would try heating it like said at the link you sent.
It might sound really nuts, :silly: but....Home made solutions "I Would Consider" doing is heating "re-soldering" the chip: (It depends how desperate you are).
- Try some "small repair shops". They might have some tools for it, and usually are cheaper.
- A Blow-dryer, some can get really hot, depends how long, how close, etc; I would also try covering some other parts;
- The Oven. LOL. Seriously, I did this with a friend. Was a old laptop mother board with problems with the video. (Pretty much soldering problem). We did "baked" it, don't remember how long it took, something between 20 to 40 minutes i guess. We used a tiny piece of a solder wire, we left it in a easy spot to see it, when when it was melted we considered that the rest was also in the same condition. We left it cool down, and...... Voialá, the laptop was back alive. Some months later the problem came back. This process was done arround 4 times before the board died for good.
Search for this "oven" solution.

- A Blow-dryer, some can get really hot, depends how long, how close, etc; I would also try covering some other parts;
- The Oven. LOL. Seriously, I did this with a friend. Was a old laptop mother board with problems with the video. (Pretty much soldering problem). We did "baked" it, don't remember how long it took, something between 20 to 40 minutes i guess. Thank you for your answer.
I tried the blow-dryer, but it didn't work.
So I finally found a friend who had a heater + experience in soldering electronics. We heated the chip carefully, waited for it to cool off and it worked! The sound was back, except the mic didn't work on calls but worked with the voice recorder (but didn't have much gain). It was working until maybe an hour ago - and back to the same problem.
I guess we'll have to reheat it again and apply a bit of pressure on the chip.. it is risky but i don't see other solutions - it really is the problem.
im 99% this is software, there surley wouldnt be any sound on startup if the chip was at fault
and various rom flashes semi cured the problem before crashing again
i dont know if theres a way of completely wiping the phone and reinstalling the firmware rather than flashing?
would re partitioning do anything?
im literally stuck

I dont know about re partining, cant help you with it.
Did you tried to format/wipe via recovery?
There's a post about getting all the way back to stock, you might try it, since you had semi cured the problem before, even for a while.
Have you tried any "repair shop"? At least to hear what the guy has to say.
Good Luck!

i use stock anyway ive tried various stock flashes :/
ive taken it into several and they either have no idea or say its the speaker which i really dont believe!
i gave tried factory reset and wiping the cache
Hi,
I have the same problem i guess, first symptom i had was glitch on the speaker when phone overheat, then days later earpods distrsion sound, then they wont work anymore, the remote button on it too, did some flashes roms and back to stock, now it s random sound on boot logo sometimes, and the sound will work for 30 sec or 1 minute after, then every sound stops
Whats weird is that apps that require sound make the phone lag, it s like they can see there's a sound problem...
Anyone figured out whats the problem would be great. Pleaaase
Did u try repartitioning when flashing via ODIN?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Sound Problem

Hello all,
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M
I had Google Play Edition ROM installed on my phone for about a year but recently a problem with sound started occurring.
After boot, sound works fine for maybe an hour or so but then the problem starts.
The problem is that no sound comes out of the phone, no ringing, no alarms, no music, nothing at all. When earphones are connected, they also do not emit sound.
I tried restoring, installed also different ROMs but same problem occurs.
Any idea how I can troubleshoot the problem or anything I can do to fix it?
I don't think it could be hardware problem because after restart, everything works fine for some time then it starts failing.
Thank you in advance,
Damian
No luck with a completely stock ROM that was flashed through Odin? If not, it could be a hardware issue with the phone's speaker.

I was planning to try out a stock ROM but didn't do it yet.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if it's an issue with the phone's speakers then the earphones would work, right?
Thanks
The very fact you have tried other ROMs and encountered the same issue in all them eliminates software as the culprit. The only possibility left is hardware. In this case, the sound chip on the motherboard must have a faulty solder joint somewhere, preventing it from working after the device heats up.

Wouldn't it be the case that after direct restart, the heat is still the same and the positions are still the same so it won't work?
In my case, however, it works.

Possible. There are other hardware failures that can duplicate what you've observed however. You won't know for certain unless you go completely stock. If it happens on stock then it's a virtual lock there is a hardware issue.
