Android Security: 5th of june.
Haven't figured out what else changed yet.
It was ~200mb larger than previous update (B182) so something else should've changed too.
On-Body Detection seems to be something new.
Apparently it can detect your "body" and stay unlocked when you're holding/carrying the phone, and will lock when you set it down somewhere.
"On-body detection can't always distinguish between you and someone else. If someone takes your device while it's been unlocked, they might be able to access it."

Hi! I have the C432B182 right now, the only way to update was via Firmware finder and the proxy addon. Updated about a month ago from B126 to B182 with the full ota, all stock, no root either.
Now, in firmware finder i have the B184 update, not B185. I have the L09 c432 europe single sim. Did anyone receive that B184 o recommend to wait for the B185 version to be available?
As i read here, the changelog is very repetitive but there must be some changes apart from security update to June.
Thanks in advance!

It popped up as one of those to-do things at the top in Settings (Where it asks you to customize wallpaper etc.)
I can't find it other than that to-do...
It was named Smart Lock something. And is apparently a Lollipop feature so it's not really new. But I haven't seen it before.
I wiped everything before flashing so it didn't keep any old settings.

No need to wait.
L29 and L09 have different builds/numbers.
Huawei can suddenly post other build for L09.

Do you see any modificatons of the "vendor" binaries, like a new glgps4774 ?
I have downloaded the update zips using direct links (without any phunky phuawei in between), but decoding the bsdiffs seems to be a tough task

I see, i know that every variant has different Builds but just asked for curiosity. I'll try to download and install in these days, is a bit slow to download here in Argentina, my maximum download is around 1.2 megabyte and never got over 800 kbps when i downloaded the last update

You can run 'md5sum' on glgps4774 and check the Broadcom string version.
This data for 2 previous versions was posted in the GPS thread before.

Not sure how to get the string version, but md5 does not match the other ones in that thread.
Code:
HWMHA:/vendor/bin # md5sum glgps4774
f2d16a4a464adaa24ee0c61710cd7234 glgps4774
Edit: Checking in nano I get this: Broadcom GLL ver. 64.19.20 279029
Same version as B182.

The MD5 hash is the same as reported for B182:

Modifies the exchange of WiFi data faster and adds a new notice in the upper bar when that exchange happens to continue with the synchronization And i think it improves the 6x zoom of the camera.

Hoory, just got OTA update for L29C636B172 :)

I was on MHA-L29C636B158, and I check for update everyday, but always get nothing. I have a disabled prepaid China Unicom SIM-card in 1 of the SIM slots, left there from my business trip to China last week. I just enabled it and went back to update, and there it is MHA-L29C636B172 update, 447MB size. The Change log is "This update optimizes system performance and stability". The list of Optimizations "Optimize system performance and stability for smoother operations. Optimizes power consumption for longer usage."
It's installed and came back up in a few minutes... didn't notice anything different... I guess I will see in a few days.

well, it has been more than a week since I got the 172, I can't really tell any noticeable difference from 158. Except the annoying "audio recording" warning problem with Skype/WhatsApp came back and this time I somehow can't fix it by disabling a whole bunch of Google voice search settings... sad
same to me, in usa, no luck so far...

Got the OTA on C636.
The music controls (spotify) now shows up normally on the lockscreen.
It's a lot smoother and the battery lasts a little longer....

List of Mate 9 / Mate 9 Pro Latest FIrmwares

Since I spend 12 hours a day working with Huawei firmware, I figured a list may be handy.
Key:
Model and Version
Chinese Model:
MHA-AL00C00B301 (EMUI 5.1, beta)
MHA-AL00C00B203
Meafnaf (Middle East / North Africa) Models
MHA-L29C185B181
LON-L29C185B180
Eu (Europe) Models
MHA-L09C432B182
MHA-L29C432B182
LON-L29C432B185
Spcseas (Asia/Pacific) Models
MHA-L29C636B181
LON-L29C636B182
USA Model
MHA-L29C567B190
Porsche Model
LON-L29C721B185
Generic Model
MHA-L09C900B186
MHA-L29C900B186
LON-L29C900B187
Note: It's not possible to tell how new a firmware is based only on its build number. For example, MHA-L29C567B183 has a very high build number, but it's much older than MHA-L29C636B181
Any chance to include the PD version in this list?
Anyways, it's depressing to see they are developing indeed, but they are struggling so hard at keeping a decent official release pace. I mean, pretty much everything is unauthenticated, or if it is it still takes ages to become available. If it wasn't for Firmware Finder, I'd still be stuck at a 4 months old firmware on my PD, without 10x zoom, all the camera tweaks which were applied later and so on, how can this be possible?!

Ok, added it.
Actually, Huawei is very active with development, but not active with public releases/authentication. Basically, the rollout cycle is:
Build, upload for internal use (usually day after build), upload publicly, release to some devices, release to all devices.
With the Porsche Design Mate 9, they actually had a build 156, but they never ended up uploading it or releasing it publicly, and just jumped to 174, then 180, without publicly releasing them. It is strange, indeed, but the Porsche tends to get updates fast enough, internally, at least. I feel most sorry for the LON-L29C432 users, really, because they seem to get the updates last.

Well,
MHA-L29C567B183 <-- old
MHA-L29C636B180 <-- newer
Somehow that makes sense. At first, your statement scared me a bit ("wtf are they doing?").
Let's see what comes next. I personally am sick and tired of flashing. Bricked more than one phone (although Samsungs); I'll be waiting quietly here until they release whatever they want to release.
Ooommmmh

Yes, it's possible. The best branding isn't PD, though. It's probably LON-L29C636 which gets fastest updates.

Of course there are benefits, but it's impossible to know exactly what they are. I know the kernel is newly built and the security patches are more recent. Otherwise, seems to be mainly power management/performance-related, but the changelogs are so vague, so it's up to fate whether or not you feel an actual substantial change. Not many people have tried it at this point.
If you want the files, just use HiSuite to try and install the update. The files will be downloaded to your Documents\HiSuite folder. If you're rooted, it's possible the HiSuite update might fail, but you'll get the files.

Never mind. I thought you were using a service not available to the general public, if that makes any sense. If not, there's no way to install B180, anyway, as it's not on Huawei's public servers, and is not being authenticated by Huawei.

Do you notice any difference with battery drain?
Using Firmware Finder I found newer ROMs than my current 158. What's the difference between FullOTA-MF and OTA-MF? I know one is huge but which do i download to upgrade please?
I am thinking to upgrade to 172 as 180 has no FullOTA file.
And which one is best to download of the three? It's very confusing. I did all this fine on my Mate 8 but now i forget. Thanks.

Firmware Finder will only work on older releases which are signed by Huawei. When a new release is found, Huawei won't be signing it for your device for a few weeks in most cases. You'll have to use a different method if you want to install 180.

How to update the Huawei Mate 9 Pro (Lon-l29c)'s firmware?

Is there anyone out there that knows how to update the Mate 9 Pro (Lon-l29c)? The firmware finder app seems suspiciously unable to supply an "authenticated" update package, & paying funky Huawei every time I need to update is a bit to much for me. I have the files for the update, I just have no idea how to go about making the phone use it even recognize the files. Are there any methods available other than the two I mentioned?

Not to be rude, but I posted to find another method other than funky Huawei. Even with the fact that it's just $30 for 5 updates is way more than I would ever spend for something I've done for free. I plan to have this phone for years, and I'm pretty sure there'll be more than just 5 updates in a year (there's been 3 in the 2 months I've owned the device already).

Currently considering rebranding to C636, since that versions seems to get updates fastest.

Tried again. I just kept getting that incremental stuff where it keeps wanting to download another patch.
So. I cleared the folder specified in FF, rebooted the phone and then it kept saying the connection was unstable.
So, I uninstalled FF Proxy and then reset the connection. File downloaded. Phone rebooted and said it couldn't verify the file and now.....
"Your device has failed verification" on boot up. It will work if I press the power button, but something is clearly wrong. It suggests I use 'ERecover' which states it will download the most recent build over Wifi.
Balls. Will give it a try - but I fear I've bricked the bloody thing!

"Your device has failed verification" on boot up. It will work if I press the power button, but something is clearly wrong. It suggests I use 'ERecover' which states it will download the most recent build over Wifi.
Balls. Will give it a try - but I fear I've bricked the bloody thing!

Ah. Thanks for that. That's how you get around that problem!
Onto the new problem - "Your device has failed verification." Huawei's own solution failed. I presume it only works in Asia or China. It appears to want you to use 'ERecover' and wifi*not fully booted phone) to download a system image. Doesn't work. (Funky Huawei use this method, but they change your DNS so presumably ERecover points at their servers for a fee.)
Apparently factory reset doesn't work either and I didn't wanna start from scratch again.
I Googled about and this does seem a relatively common issue and someone else got the issue on a Huawei Mate 9 (not pro) doing the same thing. The OTA updates can cause this, he flashed an older firmware. I tried to flash the older firmwares, two of which got 'not authenticated' messages. So, going for broke, I had a go at installing the newest B182 firmware FULL again through FF. By some miracle - it worked and fixed the "Your device has failed verification." issue as well!!
Phew. So managed to get B182 on L29C636. :victory:
Only weird thing I got was Google Drive didn't want to work post installation(kept saying no network connection) - so I deleted all data from Google Play and this started working again.
Now that I know the critical point in using FF - "Download latest full package" as stated above. This shouldn't be such a ballache.
Can anyone confirm the benefit of converting the C636(Asian) to the European version- C432?

Switch to L09. The B394 update has moving picture and a nice Honor Dual Camera watermark and has the August security patches.

Apart from the latest security patches and all 'optimisations' mentioned in the change log, there is nothing new.

It is normal. To install the update you have to bypass authentication checks. You can check my guide about Flashing unapproved firmwares in the Guides forum.

In italy no official OTA update. I'm using FRD-L09 (EU) and i'm still on B389. Hope it wont take ages to receive the OTA. Funny because it comes with August security patches...when probably will already be end of september or even october when the update becomes avaible xD. However i know i can update manually, but i prefer to wait for OTA. Last time i update with twrp i missed some options in "settings" so i want to avoid mistakes and errors

Oreo System Dumps - OPR1.170623.026.G955USQU1ZQJJ 11-3-2017

Pretty much exactly the same across all the models with minor differences. I'll try to upload new dumps when new builds hit.
DOWNLOAD:
From T-Mobile GS8+ Build OPR1.170623.026.G955USQU1ZQJJ
How are you dumping it, and what's keeping you from dumping the update file?
Can anyone with this update dial *#2263# and post a screenshot. It should list the supported bands, I'd like to know if they enabled Band 46.
Thanks.

Once I read up on what Band 46 is, I decided to do a speed test. Apparently, LAA is in full effect in Memphis  :victory:

If you're not in the Beta program itself, I'd say there's 98% chance no as the update is tied to your Samsung account. The OP states that he'll upload any future Beta updates, though. Of course, you'll always be able to flash the official Oreo build once it's released (probably without wiping data.)

Hmm. I'm currently in the Unlocked Model beta. If i flash back to TMobile do you think it would count me in the beta still? Since its tied to the account?

Probably, since the account and Beta are tied to your IMEI. If not, you can flash back to unlocked and upgrade again. You won't lose your Beta status unless you leave the program.

Assuming this is applied through recovery with ADB sideload right? Or?
I tried flashing it in recovery using "update via SD card" and pointed to the zip file and I got an error with wrong footer.

I'm wndering what would be a proper way of flashing the modem for us that are rooted without losing root? I'm still on the August build.
Thanks.

This is simply a system dump and doesn't contain the bootloader and modem. We'd need the full OTA for those and we can't get them without root. As you've probably noticed, even the gurus at Sammobile haven't posted it yet because it'd be EXTREMELY difficult to catch the OTA even over your own network. I was able to post my Band 46 screenshot because I'm actually in the Beta program.

Only beta 8. Running latest 7.x update with Oct security patch and 46 is not enabled.
Apart from wifi-calling and the usual Tmo stuff, is what's the difference between this and the U1 Oreo firmware?

Beat me to it. Folks, this is just a system dump. Unfortunately, without root, I cannot access the Cache partition, which is where the OTA zip file is stored.
I'm posting system dumps to encourage anyone and everyone to dig through. Hopefully we can find an exploit or some tidbit. I never bothered with the sampawn. While I am very grateful for the time, effort, and energy that went into that root, it's not a true root. When Oreo drops we're back to ground zero.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT:
- Polish: That's partly Google. Partly Samsung. Battery battery life. Things open faster. Etc. And I dirty flashed too.
- Battery Life: Took my phone off charger 16 hours ago and I have 40% left. Screen time 3hr. I heavily rely on my phone every day. Team communication apps, research, navigation, etc. No games. Could be different.
- PiP: Awesome. I had Navigation open earlier today and switched to Music to change songs, a little floating window with my navigation opened. PiP works with Google Maps!
- Band 46: Hasn't been fully initialized in my area, but signals are definitely much more stable.
- WiFi: More stable. I can reach 5G band at further distances. Likely just cleaned up code that's making these work better.
- Small UI changes, such as people edge is more glassy.
Oreo is well worth the patience. I'm only encountering small bugs here and there. It's very stable. So I'd say, maybe Xmas we'll have Oreo. Could be wishful thinking, but I'm hella impressed. This **** is smooth. Only thing I hate is the stupid emojis are the same as before.

I would upload it Like I normally do, but know one was able to figurere it out last year for the Galaxsy s7 edge.
@tengtengvn and I tried to figure it out. You can see the forum here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/direct-link-nougat-update-t3510467
I have been looking into the the S8+ Ota and noticed
Code:
patch/system/bin/tinycap.p.,.ÓõSBDIFF10×.
SBDIFF. If we can figured out how they SBDIFF the OTA against the 7.0/NRD90M/G955USQU1AQHD firmware. we may be able to flash it.
I also noticed the OTA .bin file has to zip files concatenated together. the first zip only has one file in it called metadata and it is just text.
Code:
ota-type=FILE
post-build=samsung/dream2qltesq/dream2qltesq:8.0.0/OPR1.170623.026/G955USQU1ZQJJ:user/release-keys
post-timestamp=1509361774
pre-build=samsung/dream2qltesq/dream2qltesq:7.0/NRD90M/G955USQU1AQHD:user/release-keys
pre-device=dream2qltesq
If some people show interest I may upload it.
