Moto z play supports video out with MHL adapter - Moto Z Play Guides, News, & Discussion

Just like to confirm no need for chrome cast no need for wifi dongles no need for any of that
Moto z play seems to support audio video output with a hdmi mhl adapter and USB c cord
I didn't think it worked as it's mentioned most current phones don't have slimport or mhl capability it's evident this phone does .
Best of luck as I believe this is a nice find .

Are there different types of MHL adapter? Saw 11 pin, Samsung specific, is this just a marketing thing and all are the same? Any recommendation, which one to buy in Germany (Amazon prime is fine)?

Can you post exact specifications / link to the adapter that you are using. That's interesting, considering that there is also MyDP/Slimport output (via the mod backplane, but nevertheless, I would've expected to support only one standard, not both).
Thanks

I was mad when I couldn't get it to work the mhl on my pioneer double din but pioneer has to detect a HDMI dongle before HDMI appears I was all bummed went inside hooked to my 32" tv and it worked no casting over WiFi straight cables only

I'd just get the M.way on Amazon if it works for me may as well use what works

This is awesome! Can you post the link to the exact one you purchased? I tried finding it but only saw the micro USB one...

I cant link direct from Amazon but I'll screenshot the item
Works like a charm on a TV not good for a car radio mirroring only cause the newer Android auto radios are set to detect an actual HDMI dongle from the input if it don't sense a hdmi unit it won't mirror

I am confused here. Are you then also using a USB c to micro USB adapter or a USB c to USB cable coming off the phone???

By the descriptions, we can see that this adptador is compatible also with galaxy s6 s7, but I already had a s6 and it does not have compatibility with MHL, I bought several cables and none worked, what I can see is that this adptador works like a bridge USB, which transfers the image not by MHL but by a USB link similar to using mirroring via usb on the computer, so it is necessary to activate the USB debugging ... This is very good because it is comptaviel with any android that does not have support The MHL ... Very good !!

There seem to be 2 versions of this cable from M.WAY.
Silver version compatible with the Galaxy S7 and a Black version, which is not.
Problem is, the silver version is not available in the UK (not even from Amazon).
Anyone know where I can get this in the UK (or someone who ships to the UK)?

Please post link. Is this cable usb-c on one side ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272686294141
Got the black one

I purchased the M.Way white cable from Amazon (cable white color with sliver USB HDMI plug end) but it won't work on my Moto Z2 Play. This is even after I turn on "USB Debugging".
I also noticed that my Moto Z2 does NOT ask the question "ALLOW" when this USB C to HDMI cable is connected to it. However that "ALLOW" question is asked on both my iPhone and LG cellphone when I connect my TV to this cable and it works on these two phone brand (iPhone and LG) but not on my Moto Z2 Play.
HELP PLEASE

I bought a cable from AliExpress and it is working too. But I get very low framerates and compression artefacts on fast moving content. Playing games or watching videos is impossible. How does the M.Way cable do in these use cases?

To eliminate pixelation, download the Ezcast app and play videos via the app while connected through hdmi.
Works great.

HDMI out cable doesn't seem to work

I bought a microusb to HDMI cable (Samsung P/N ECC1HU0BBE but not from Samsung, from some other random place) to see if it would work. It does not appear to work on my phone. I'm running the stock ROM, just rooted with the bloat removed.
I plugged it into an HDTV here at work, checked "TV out" in settings, and nothing. TV said it didn't see any input. I was dubious about this, especially since there's an option in there for NTSC/PAL which AFAIK doesn't apply to HDMI. This leads me to believe that maybe the TV out option is for something more like the classic ipod style analog video out through the headphone jack cable.
I tried: just checking the "TV out" box, switching between PAL and NTSC, restarting the phone with the cable connected, etc.
So, there's my anecdotal report. I'm guessing that our phone doesn't support this cable. I thought I had one of the latter (analog video) type in a box of cords somewhere but haven't been able to find it yet. Has anyone tried one of those cables?
(I'd post links to the cable I'm talking about but it won't let me! D
drat.
Maybe it only works with specific apps-- Did you try playing a movie in the built-in video player app?

You could have gotten a faulty cable. It's also possible the cable was assembled by some random joe making and selling junk cables. Where did you get it from? It may be a fake samsung cable and not true oem.

This is certainly possible. I bought it from some random shady web store I found on google shopping. It _looks_ like a Samsung cable, but that doesn't really mean anything.

The cable I have looks exactly like that, down to the little plug symbol by the microusb port on the side. Also you'll notice that the part number you list is the same as the one I did but with an "STD" on the end. The page you linked me is where I started my search for this cable. The cable itself doesn't have any part numbers on it that I've found.
If it doesn't work on my TV at home either I'll take it apart and we'll see what's in there. I can't imagine much.
So, who knows? Maybe I have a knockoff, broken or wrong cable. If so, bummer for me, but that means that we still have the possibility of HDMI out on this device. So, someone buy that cable straight from Samsung (whenever they decide to start selling it) and prove me wrong! I'd be very happy
I bought the same cable and tryed everything...
I am not sure if it is a software issue or what. But it definitely is not sending signal threw this port. Tried a many different programs/apps and settings.
I thought "TV Out" was only for the analog video signal through the 3.5 mm jack.
where did you guys buy the cable?
just want to know
Thank You
It could be the cable. I had to buy a specific cable for my Greddy Emanage since they did something to switch the USB cable to make it proprietary. They charged $30 for the stupid thing too! Bunch of BS, anyhow, they may have done the same thing with the Vibrant.
I dont remember hearing anything about the Vibrant doing HDMI out though
i used an old 3.5 to rca cables from a motozine i had and video worked just fine on my tv. it kind of looks like crap on my 52 inch screen. but it worked. so im thinking maybe the video out only works through the 3.5 jack.
The Galaxy S doesnt support HDMI output. That was a accident statement from Samsung. That cable is for the "mondi".

Hmm. I wonder if it works on the Sprint Epic 4G, or on the international I9000. (There are several Galaxy S features that T-Mobile and AT&T have disabled, but which appear in other variants.)
What is the quality of the 3.5mm tv out..is it horrible? On youtube videos it looks really good, but its hard to tell by youtube. Will it look quite good on a 46" panasonic plasma?...no hdmi news is quite depressing, was really looking forward to that.

TV Out! Read for another experience!

Hey all my android brethren! I am a modest if not intensive android tester/ researcher and this post is exclusively for the Samsung Vibrant. I have tested over 25 mainstream a/v out cables and have come up with one winner in stability, quality, and greatness haha! The winner is....GIGAWARE 3.5 A/V out cable for camcorders and other devices. The product number is...11A09 and the sku....040293024246. Radioshack has it...good hunti.g and watching your phone be more then what it is!
Update: The red input is actually the video i.e. yellow input, sorry everyone!!
Sounds more like a phone accessory more than phone development...but that might just be me...Thanks for your testing either way.

Just cut the headphone cable and attach RCA cables to it,
Headphone Wire Color codes
Red - Speaker +
Green - Speaker +
White - Video +
Gold - All Ground connects on same cable.
And your done.. takes all of 20 secs
Note: Make sure to burn off coating on headphone cables, just take a match to each seperate cable.

DRM, and yes, it does suck. But you can work around it by encoding your own and deleting the one that came with the phone. There's even an app in the apps forum to provide the launcher.

Yellow is video - red is right speaker, white is left speaker. What you don't get is stereo sound.
lol, "extensive" testing? Seriously? These cables are composite, the quality will NOT be any better from one to the other. If you have signal issues, then the cable may be defective.
BTW, the audio coming out of the phone is near useless with the 3.5 out. I have to increase my audio on the TV to near max in order to hear comfortably.

Zune HD dock cables work
If your Zune HD owner with dock the Vibrant only needed 3 channel 3.5 mm. I found it out when I was watching some guy using the similar cable. Not HD though but it's a start.

How does the mouse work? do you physically see a cursor on the screen?
is using the mouse on the s2 exactly the same as using on a pc?
and when you have a BT KB hooked up, does the android KB pop up in all text boxes?
Your setup is exactly what i had in mind but with a hdmi to vga converter for using with hotel tvs.
Yes.. you get a little white pointer... left mouse selects right mouse takes you back a step... its very similar to a laptop trackpad...
You still get the screen keyboard or you can disable it..

I do agree that the Galaxy S 2 is good enough to use as a PC especially for web browsing etc but I would want to use a bigger screen
when the mhl adapter is available this will be a lot more viable being able to connect to any HDMI enabled screen, currently the screen is too small to use seriously as a laptop replacement.

Do you connect it directly via bluetooth or are you using the usb port for it? I've seen in a video that the keyboard includes a usb adapter.

I can verify that both of these work with the note 10.1. The HDTV adapter mirrors the homescreen and videos look good. I haven't tested whether it outputs 1080p since I just looked at some 720p videos. I can also verify that unlike using the mhl adapter with the galaxy s2, netflix does output in widescreen instead of a distorted 4:3 ratio.

Have you tried your cable with another phone?

Anyone found an answer to this? Just bought the blue version in Singapore. Still looking for a working adapter.
Hi guys,
From the htc community forum (mandarin based), someone had purchased a HTC original 3.5mm adapter. http://estore.htc.com/tw/buy/zh-TW/shop/usb-c-digital-to-3-5mm
and it appears the adapter has a 24bit/48khz DAC built in.
It may be worth your while to get the HTC product
Here's the thread (in mandarin)

Soundabout app works pretty well, except for phone button (next track). Mic works fine too.
Tested with Moto Z adapter and generic cheap adapter too.
But still looking for original adapter. I Live in Brazil and HTC doesn' t operate here anymore.

Did you mean that generic adaptors will work only with this app?
I just bought this phone and I wonder if we can now use any adaptor instead of the HTC.
I also have this phone since around 10 days. I bought htc labeled adapter from usb type c to 3.5mm for around 10 euro from local shop. I can not be sure if it is original because it did not came with any documentation but it was recognized and its firmware updated by the phone without problem. It is also working fine with my headphones.

Can you take a picture of this adapter plz? To ensure that is not the branded HTC. Thx
In fact it is htc branded. I just received it in nylon bag without any documents. Anyway even if it is a copy it is a good copy and works great with my U ultra which recognized it and updated its firmware. Here is a picture.

Thanks, yes it looks like the original HTC adapter. But I cannot find it on any website except the HTC store, who takes 16,80€ for delivery for a cable that cost only 10€ (I'm in France). Has anyone found it in another shop?
