Anyone please provide the step by step procedure for installing a theme via substratum.
Currently, I am on AOKP and I tried Swift Black for 7.1.1(patched) and DNA themes and they didn't worked.
Your ROM needs to be updated to support the new rootless subtratum engine.

I think what s/he means is the OMS engine, it's called "masquerade" iirc. I heard it got rootless or something, never use any theme myself, idk.
Maybe wait for rom developers to push latest OMS engine? or build yourself ofc

Substratum should be rootless, as far as I know. Have you installed substratum from the play store and are using a theme that's compatible? Which themes are you installing?

I am using swift black theme. It doesn't support. It also shows legacy mode while starting

If you have rooted your phone, then you'll be able to use Substratum theme engine.
Wait for the Android O, the Android O support the Substratum with no root need

I have used Substratum, but the themes available in it are not that great. many of the themes are for sale & not free.
Can anyone confirm after applying substratum themes phone won't be in bootloop or bricked.

i m now rooting my phone and update you
for substratum on nougat you need root, but on Oreo there are an option for work without root (systemless) but you'll need Andromeda for Substratum for that
also not sure if you apply system UI modification it wont ended up bootloop

I am using successfully Substratum with the BalticUI (working partially - Contacts app/Pone app doesn't work) or the Default Dark Theme! No bootloops!
How to install Substratum Themes on MI A1???
You'll need Root if you on 7.1.2, but when Oreo update arrive, we can use Substratum Rootless+Andromeda

You have to be rooted.
Install substratum apk.
Install some theme apk and try to apply it in substratum, be careful it's possible to get bootloop.

i tried, not bootloop, but themes was not working..
i tried swift dark and choose OMS and also Lineage.
no any success.

You mean like in substratum app itself ?

yea when you apply theme you must choose those settings. i cant get any dark theme to work with substratum and this mi a1.

it says substratum legacy.. i just installed it on google play store.. i cant get any theme to work. and i have stock rom with rooted magisk..

Should work. Do you use any Magisk modules for substratum? Like for example there is a module called Substratum Systemless and I don't think that will work

Well I had an Xperia phone and substratum was working on that, and unlike A1 that was a custom Android ROM made by Sony. Be sure you install Legacy versions of themes and you don't use any substratum related magisk modules ( look again and make sure that module is disabled)

I deleted that module and try other themes too.. Something still wrong..

i did not get it work..
Don't use Substratum! Got into bootloop! had reflash firmware.
Substratum works fine for me...

Not on the current OOS (Nougat) but likely when we get the Oreo OOS version. I use Substratum with root but in its "Legacy" form so I need to reboot after any theme application and miss other features that an OS integrated Substratum would provide.

There aren't enough devices running 8.0 to say for sure. Rootless Substratum works on Oreo on Nexus and Pixel devices but those are Google phones. Other device manufacturers including One Plus alter Android code for their own devices so how well it will work is not known. OOS alters Android framework enough that only a few Substratum themes are currently compatible even if you are rooted. On a Nexus or Pixel phone running Nougat if you were rooted most Substratum themes are compatible in legacy mode. That's not the case with most non-Google phones. On those you usually need a custom ROM to use Substratum.
Can I use substratum theme engine on rooted stock rom? if yes will it be legacy or oms support?
