I think you can buy another devices with more support and better specifications for this money (Zuk z2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, Apollo Lite, ... examples).
I have the old Jiayu S3 Advance (3 GB Ram & 16 GB ROM 2015 January) and now I'm excited about the new ROM 7.1 they have prepared from the M.A.D Team.

Price Premium of 32GB Model, comparison against competition, $ and £ prices

I have been waiting for the nexus 9 for over a year and was very happy with the outcome my issue is that the price premium for the 32GB model is too much. I have attached a comparison of the nexus's, ipads and tab s's.
I originally completed the comparision to see how the conversion between $ and £ was working out, which apparently is about $1.25 per £. This is in line with the competition, and makes sense bearing in mind the UKs higher VAT. I have to note that the conversion for the 32gb model was not as good ($1.20), so I compared the storage premium.
The new IPads jump from 16gb to 64gb for the same price that the nexus 9 jumps from 16gb to 32gb. This means that the cost of each extra GB for the nexus 9 is $5/£5 , whereas the ipads are $2.10/£1.67, which is less than half the price.
I am really annoyed at google for doing this, no way is 16GB of extra storage worth £80, but as the tablet has no expandable storage, I will have to pay the extra. If for £80 the storage jumped to 64GB like the IPads I would be a lot happier.
What do you guys think of the price difference of the models? Do you think there is any chance of google dropping the 32GB models price to make it more in line with Apple (I didn't think I would ever say that apple gives better value than google but that is the case).
I really think Google gone mad on pricing the Nexus line up this year. Most of the people bought Nexus Devices just b'coz of the competitive pricing.

good pricing, and because of the price, last years chips. to my understanding, the new devices use the new chips and if we don't get the annoying screen issues plaguing the N7.2 , will be worth it. I've already told them to take my money, even though I have very little of it, and swore I would not get one so soon due to the issue I have with my N7.2

a comparison of just ram specs alone is not enough. its like comparing cars just based on their trunk space alone . toss in chip (engine) and battery (gas tank) and a few other specs to make the comparison more realistic.

I know that the tablets all have different features. This was not meant to be a comparision of which tablet is the best value, I was just demonstrating how google has completely overpriced the 32GB model compared to the competition of which the IPad is the major one. The main point was the nexus 9 is the same price as the IPad mini 3 in the UK for the 16GB models but you can get the 64GB IPad mini 3 for the same price of the 32GB nexus 9.
So google should either bump the storage of the 32GB nexus 9 up to 64GB with no price increase or should knock £30-40 off the price to be more inline with its competitors. I have noticed that the price premium for the extra storage is not as much in the USA where the nexus 9 32GB is $20 cheaper than the IPad mini 3 64GB. I do not understand how there is $20 difference in the USA and no price difference in the UK.

The Nexus 9, specifications wise is meant to compete with the iPad Air 2. For an extra $80, you got to 32 GB from 16 GB while on the iPad Air 2, you go to 64GB from 16GB, but the base price starts at $100 more. The selling point over the Fire HDX, is accessibility and freedom.
I didn't think of looking at amazon.
So apple, samsung and amazon all charge $50 for a storage increase from 16GB to 32GB, whereas google is charging $80.
I am very disappointed in google for this, why did they not do the same as everyone else and charge $50 for the storage increase, which would have made the 32GB nexus 9 $449.

that sure isn't much of a price drop considering i paid a similar price in november from chinavision
This is misleading info, xiaomi hasn't dropped their price on mix at all, official price is still exactly the same. What you seeing here is reseller dropping price, most likely because the hype is over and they are trying to sell their stock.
It has nothing to do with mix 2 and we won't be seeing mix 2 anytime soon also. They only just started working on it so give it until later this year before you start seeing actual info about it.
P. S. And ya, that price is pretty much what others was asking a long time ago
I was looking at this model since it came out and all the retailers who ships worldwide asked for over 1000$, maybe you are talking on 128GB? the 18K is the most expensive model.

I am well aware of the model difference, of course I am talking the more expensive model. When I bought mine back in December, the world wide shipping price was around 850 USD, many buyers here got theirs around that price.
Some sites are charging quite a bit more than the others, but price from official has always been the same. If you lucky enough to snap one from xiaomi, it's 3999 RMB, which is around 580 USD. I got mine just below 700 USD last year. 18k gold 6GB ram version that is.

you obviously haven't read the huge thread about where to buy then cause similar prices have been available from the very start of this phone going on sale
The maze seems like vapor hardware atm too, not sure what it really has to offer - new company going in on a new idea with no previous entries. That's a pretty big risk to take in this market. I got my mix 6gb 256GB for about 850 everything included, Chinese rom and sealed.
Anyone want to bid this Mi Mix from eBay?

The offer is from banggood. I have never bought in that site. Is it safe? Do they offer some sort of warranty?
I am tempted once again to buy one as it's ~3000 MXN (~150USD) and my LG G3 is giving up on me.
thanks for any/all advice
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/BangGood
Yes they are safe, U can pay by PayPal and have 1 year warranty.
I ordered many times from them.
Just ordered 2 for my wife and I, thanks op. We live in Colombia and are using Le Pro 3 and the Le S2 but it seems like there is more rom support for this phone.
Alas, I Just ordered A white ZUK z2 a few hours ago from the site..
Now I will have to wait (hopefully not eternally) for it to arrive, so I can see if it is worth the money.
In the meantime I managed to get a hold of my previous moto X (1st gen) as a backup phone while I Fix my LG G3 (I think the battery is dead)
Anyways, if the z2 is as good as I've read, I will be selling my G3, and maaaybe my moto x (probably will get nothing for it so I might keep as backup)
Wish me luck :fingerscrossed:
Need that band 12 action
Got mine from banggood a few days ago.
Damn this is a good phone. Wish camera was better but cannot complain for the price.
Flashed the Indian rom, it OTA'd up to the .133 version right after
I Just paid $166 for the Lenovo ZUK Z2 4GB/64GB over at DX.COM. They applied an extra discount at checkout! I have been looking for another android phone after not loving the Leeco Max 2 which I am selling on ebay to UK buyers only. I think the ZUK Z2 looks like an interesting phone with a big developer community.

Worthy Successor to Nexus 5X?

OK so the N5X is 3 years old now... any new phones out or coming out that are similar in price (budget-mid price range), and will have similar custom ROM support?
Just curious, as my N5X is still going strong, but there seems to be a roadblock on getting Android Pie to be fully functional in the few attempts I see (encryption?)
I've been keeping an eye on the new Nokia #.1 devices, and other similar specc'd phones.
Thanks.

I replaced my Nexus 5x with an Essential PH-1 on Prime day. This is the first non Nexus device I ever owned but it's very much a spiritual successor to the Nexus lineup. I am waiting for it to go back on sale again so I can pick one up for my mom.
I would consider something like the OnePlus/Oppo if it were available on Sprint but unfortunately my device selection is limited being on this provider.

Those are still pretty spendy at $400+. I'm looking for the $300 or less range, same as the 5X was. I really can't see spending that much for a phone, as I'm not quite as hooked into it as some seem to be, I just need a nice reliable device I can customize easily like the 5X.
Nokia 7+ or Xiaomi Mi A2. Both Android One.
Nokia 7.1 (processor isn’t very good though), Nokia 7.1 Plus (awesome if launches globally near China price) or Nokia 8.1 (TBA).

I did... a little quirky, kept locking up, other little issues. I don't think Pie will be viable for the N5X in the long run.
Right now I'm running latest Oreo stock but rooted with Magisk and Franco kernel.
I'm asking about new phones, not ways to keep my old phone running.
Thanks.

you can try the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE or The Pocophone F1 the Poco has a flagship specs with snapdragon 845 but its camera is not pretty good because Xiaomi just nerf the Poco's camera in the stock camera so you have to install a google camera. Mi 8 SE has snapdragon 710 which is quite rare and according to some people, it's a Snapdragon 845 with a weaker GPU.

From everything I found, at that price point, the Pocophone is the best one, anything cheaper is way worse and not many things a little bit more expensive like at $400 or $500 are still not as good as it is. You don't really have to worry about warranty if you buy on Amazon though, if Xiaomi don't give you warranty, Amazon will as well as the resellers so don't worry about that. Bellow that 300 bucks, you may also get some other Xiaomi phones with good specs but most of them are using snapdragon 6xx which is not quite good.
Essential phone is truly the lowest price replacement of good quality.
I wouldn't recommend that pocophone for anyone in America because it doesn't work on Verizon or Sprint.
The pixel phones are all decent, but they have major hardware issues and look ugly.
LG makes the best looking and some of the most feature rich phones, but can't ever update software. (V30 is just an awesome phone form factor tho)
If I had to recommend a few replacements these would be it:
Galaxy s8 or newer Samsung flagships (TouchWiz is better than stock Android in 2018 amazingly)
Essential phone
LG v30*
Oneplus 6t (No other OnePlus phones though because the rest are beat by Galaxy s8/s9 and the essential phone at every price point)
*For v30 you must be a regular headphone jack user. That quad dac is amazing. Makes a $10 pair of headphones sound like $150, and regular car speakers sound like a full on audio upgrade. Being an LG there is next to no software support and no dev support, but the audio almost makes up for it.

Other option to consider however....
Downgrade to upgrade.
The 5x sucks you'll be happier with a Galaxy note 4, note 3, or a Nexus 6 as they are all faster and better phones in 2018 due to having 3gb of ram.
Plus they have great dev support and in the note devices extended batteries that can last a long time. Going from a Nexus 5x to any flagship with 3gb or more of ram in the last 5 years is really a massive upgrade. That 1gb of ram is the difference between usable and unusable.

Thanks for all that, Nascar. Lot's to consider, but the 'downgrade to upgrade' is a valid point. I was eyeing some refurb Galaxy s# phones, maybe I'll go for that.
I have bought a OnePlus 6 with the discount from Black Friday (and that will be valid until Christmas, I think). It is exactly the same price as the Nexus 5x 32gb originally.: $429,00. In this sense I think it is a proper successor. It is a little big, though.
And I disagree with the post above. The S8 is a great phone, but it is worse than the OnePlus 6 in most aspects but the camera.

quick comparison T580 vs T590

I was really happy when I bought my T580. Now today I bought a T590 and ... not so much
All in all, I'm a bit disappointed. For the money, I wonder if there are better options.
I don't remember the exact price I paid for the old one but it was < $200 so I felt I couldn't spend the same and get a two year old tablet..hence the T590 ..but so far..I'm less than impressed...

I kinda bricked my LG Pad and ATM I'm looking to choose between those two...
I found a 10.1 at 161 € and a 10.5 at 220 € so only 59 € difference... I guess that should pay for the 3 Gb of RAM instead of 2 GB (both have 32 Gb storage) and the USB-C...
Btw, is battery life similar? or is it better on the 10.1? (as I read on some reviews).

First, I don't know if your 10.1 is different, or not, but the U.S. one 2016 model that I had, had only 2GB ram and micro usb. Might find the UK samsung site and check those specs.
From the links in my post above, it looks about the same. I haven't had the T590 long enough to judge and frankly, I never kept track on the T580. Some apps can eat it quick. Personally, if I find the most apps work on LineageOS, I'll use it or at a minimum root it, and just the control over running apps should extend the battery.

I've owned several T580s and just bought another one, used, for $99 including shipping. I'm thinking about a 590 simply because in is a later model and might get more attention from devs in the future.
I sold my last T580 a few month ago in favor of a Hipad I got for what I sold the T580. The Hipad has higher spec than the T590 but there isn't much XDA activity for it. I missed trying out new ROMs every about every other week , so I just bought another T580. Can't have too many tablets.
I really don't understand why Samsung even bothered releasing the 2018 version of Tab A 10.5 since it came with Snapdragon 450 and same old LPDDR3 RAM. The Snapdragon 450 uses 8xA53 ARM cores, just like the Exynos SoC in the 2018 model. Their performance must be identical, which is confirmed by single core geekbench 4 scores, both in low 700s.
The way I see it, the only significant improvement is that 2018 model finally can have stereo sound in the landscape mode, instead of firing "left" and "right" sound all from one side. Neither seems to have the DRM to play Netflix in HD, which is a big fault in a tablet with a wide aspect ratio screen.
The 2019 model SM-T510 seems to fix the issue by finally moving to a CPU configuration with 4xA73 + 4xA53 cores and LDDDR4 SDRAM. The 32GB model comes with only 2GB of RAM, but 64GB model comes with 3GB.
In order to make the matters even more confusing for consumers, most of whom are not aware of these specs differences, all three Tab A models with 10+ inch screens are available in the USA market. Walmart and Sam's Club sell ONLY the 2016 model as of a couple of weeks ago, the Amazon sells the 2018 model, and the Best Buy stores sell only some kind the 2019 Tab A SM-t510 models. What a mess really.
$99 T580
I received my T580 yesterday afternoon. For $99 I expected it to show some signs of wear but was pleasantly surprised to find it in like new condition. So far I've had fun installing three different ROMs on it. The cheapest T510 I found was double the price and it was the 32bit version. So long as the devs keeping supporting the T580, I just don't think the 2019 models add enough to warrant the price difference.
I just bought my sm-t590 at Walmart in the store for 199 it was under a stack of t580s and they all looked the same I asked about the 580 it was 179 and only 16gb and 590 was 32gb for 20 more dollars. I had to dig to find it never heard of the new tab A until I found it the other day. I have been using my tab pro 8.4 since 2014 and paid 249 for it and I am definitely impressed with the new tab A 10.5 value with what I got! The sm-t590 is a nice tablet!

The T590 is the 2018 version. The 2019 is T510. The cheapest I see for the T590 at Walmart is $214 for a refurbished tablet. I much prefer my like new T580 for $99. And with the 2019 available, it don't think many devs will be looking to buy and develop for the 2018. Just my two cents worth.

The 2019 tab a was not yet in stock at the Walmart store. I did look online for tabs the best deal for a new tablet with storage and size was the one I bought at walmart for $199 the sm-t590. They had 580 and 590 and yes I know the sm-t590 is the 2018 version, also it has been said that the 590 should receive pie but I don't really care about that much if they send it or not. My note 8 is still on 7.1.1.

Who cares what Samsung releases. I've got 4 different version of 64bit Pie installed on my T580.:good::good:
I returned the sm-t590 to walmart I had it for 29 days and the screen went dead called Samsung and they were not even willing to help me get a return label, so I pleaded with Walmart to take it back even though only 15 days for tabs return policy, but manager let me exchange it for sm-t510 man does it move much quicker in touch and browsing videos etc. I almost was screwed! Never buying from Walmart again!
