I am a bit put off by the fact that motorola hasn't implemented a sleep tracker into the motoACTV. Given that they are pretty much all the rage nowadays with fitness trackers (ie. Fitbit zip and one, Jawbone UP, etc).
Im wondering if anyone has tried to use their rooted motoactv to run a sleep tracking app from the market place and how it worked for you? I just downloaded SleepBot (unless you have another recommendation) and am planning to try it tonight. However that app is meant to be ran on a phone, while plugged in and set near your pillow. It uses the phone's accelerometer to monitor your tossing and turning in bed, the phone's microphone to monitor your noises/snoring/sleeptalking and also requires the phone screen to be on during the whole time. That last part is what has me worried. I don't think that the motoactv has the ability to keep a screen lit, albeit the app dims the screen for you, for 8+hrs.
It would be nice to have software built into the MotoACTV like the jawbone UP does. Anyone have some input?
Tried sleepbot app. Didn't work. The screen size doesn't allow the whole app to display once in sleep mode tracking motion. The wake up button gets hidden and the app gets stuck in the tracking mode rendering pretty much useless. Tonight um trying sleep as android. This time I tested it during tracking and confirmed the app fits the screen or can be scrollable.
I was surprised to wake up and have 60% battery left.

The actv has a built in sleep tracker. DPRom has it enabled. The software is in all roms that contain the stock firmware, but the app may be disabled for some as it doesn't come with an icon to launch it. In those cases, you may be able to manually launch it using a file explorer or something. It is called "SleepAnalysis.apk".

Thanks for this! I had no idea. So if its enabled I should see an icon for it? In the android app list or within the listing of activities? I can't wait to test it. Thanks again!
Edit: I couldn't find the apk by searching so I found your post on another thread tht offered it as a downloadable with adb commands to install it. Works perfect! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36528460&postcount=399

That sucks. Hopefully they haven't completely abandoned it. I've used it the past 2 nights. It works well. Maybe they're planning to release a new smart watch and launch the finished product of the sleep analysis then. And then xda peeps will port it to motoactv!
A couple of issues I've run into with the current state of the sleep analysis is that you must be at least 80% charge before starting because over the course of your sleep it discharges by about 75%(this might be because of root and rom). The tracker works when screen is off unlike a lot of sleep tracking apps on the market for smartphones. Also it usually states that I'm awake for 1hr and been awaken 7-8 times during my sleep. I don't know how true that is. The graph is hard to read due to screen size as well. I'm sure there was going to be a syncing deal with it. To export to phone or pc.
A few things I want to learn is how exactly the motoactv knows when I'm in deep sleep/ light sleep, and what sets it off to say I'm awake. Also want to know what's the optimum way to wear it. With wrist strap or clip on hip.

Funny, I turned on marathon mode to save battery and tracked my sleep last night (which I only got 4 hrs). Turns out that the 3 second refresh caused me to be in "deep sleep" for all four hours which is bogus.
On the up side it finished the night with 80% battery which is a drastic savings over being on normal battery saver.

Well after a week of using the native sleep tracker, I've gotta say it isn't very good. I was hoping it'll give me me info sheet the initial 7 nights. But nothing. You can't view previous cycles, only the overall score. But this was to be expected because it's largely unfinished. It's a shame though. And the android Market is lacking beyond sleep as andros or sleep bot.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Are they on the market for another android device? If so, download it to that device, titanium backup, then copy the backed up apk to your computer and sideload it to the actv via adb.

Yes they are. They work but they're heavy on the battery.
As of late, the native sleep analysis application has begun to force close every time.

It does not work very well at all, it tends to drain the battery of the motoactv during the night. The app recommends you plug your phone in during use, so it is pretty power hungry.

Lately my s view case when opening has one heck of a lag turning on. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have been having the same problem. I have had the case on for about 3 weeks now and everything was fine until about 2 days ago where this started happening and it has been very randomly. Every time i have tried to show the problem to anyone it doesn't seem to happen. I also happened to notice the issue occurring more when the phones battery level is under 50% (not sure if that has anything to do with it though).
Mine even locks up occasionally. Assumed it was an app (the music download app was my guess), but the timing with these other instances is very odd. I deleted about 15 apps and seems more stable now. Could it be a memory issue? For those with this problem: please reply with a) last 5 apps installed and b) free space on internal memory.

I have not installed any new apps since I started experiencing this issue but the last 5 the were updated were Facebook (multiple times) Spotify Galaxy Gear Manager Chrome and S Fitness. My available internal storage is 6.88 GB and my Ram used is 1.4 GB. I have also started to notice that it does happen more with my galaxy gear paired with my phone (but that could just be coincidence as i have my gear paired 90% of the time that my phone is in use). I also tried flashing my SD card thinking that might be the cause as i have had to do that to help with battery issues in the past with other galaxy devices but it also did not work.
When you open the case, do you open it like a book or flip the cover all the way open so it rests on the back of the phone? I feel like it happens more when I open all the way. Is there a magnet in the cover?

I have just been opening it like a book and it is happening. I am not 100% sure if there is a magnet in the case. I would have to guess that there is a magnet which is what allows the s view to work properly. I do know that i have a smart cover for my Galaxy note 10.1 (2014) and that does have a magnet at the top that allows the tablet to turn on and off automatically and I think that they are using this same technology on these covers.
Are you using a third party launcher? I have Nova installed and am beginning to wonder if that is the cause of the issue. I was just noticing it happening regularly so for testing purposes I switched my phone to Touch Wiz and everything appeared to work fine. I am going to try and work with Touch Wiz over the next few days and see if that makes any difference.

I have turned off my weather and pedometer on the s view lock screen and so far that has worked for me (it has only been about a day so far so i am not calling it a complete success as of yet). If you have either of these options turned on try shutting them down and see if it makes a difference for you.

I have gone all weekend without the phone freezing once with the cover on. Even pressing the power button two or three times quickly (which previously would freeze the phone immediately) worked just fine and it has been just as responsive as the day i took it out of the box. Just for fun i turned the weather and pedometer views back on the the S View Settings and almost immediately it started freezing again and stopped once i turn the features back off. I am going to go out on a limb and say that this was a success for me. As much as i love having those features turned on for quick glance purposes I will gladly give them up for a quick functioning phone.
Alright.... This ^^^^^ worked for me no matter what launcher I used! I literally spent hours throughout the day trying to get it to freeze after disabling the pedometer and weather but it never did. Thank you!

I bit the bullet and did a factory reset. Pain in the a$$, but no problems for a week...
I contacted Samsung yesterday about this. A factory reset will work temporarily but the issue will come back again. The only suggestion they had was to clear the data from the weather app and the s health app (which means loosing all data in your health app and any weather locations you set which I have a fair amount set) which again. Is only a temporary solution. In my opinion this is not an acceptable solution but it's all they could provide to me so I am choosing to stick with keeping these features off for now.
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah... I'm on the same page. I shouldn't have to keep clearing the data to get my $50 cover to work properly with my phone. I don't need the weather and pedometer in s view that bad....
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Just a heads up it appears that samsung has fixed the issue. They released an update to the s health app today and a fix to the s view issues was on top of the changes. So far (it's only been about 10 hours) I have not had an issue with the pedometer and weather apps on. I will update again if I run into any problems.
Hi,
Is it possible to bypass the lock screen security feature while my Samsung Gear Live is connected to my phone (Samsung S5)? My Samsung Galaxy Gear 1 allows me to bypass the lock screen security as long as it's connected to my phone. I was hoping that feature was also available with an Android Wear watch. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Use a tasker profile for that. Done

You can set WiFi networks or Bluetooth devices as trusted admins so the lock screen won't be used if your connected to any you have set. Eg set your home WiFi and watch as trusted. Then whenever your at home you won't get the pin lock. When you out and have your watch you won't need it. But leave phone on bus with no watch or trusted WiFi then it locks down. Its v good

Problem with this software or the tasker BTNear function, is the battery consumption it requires to track the device.
Here is an alternative solution i made here that take virtually no battery, and root is not needed.
The trick is that it will not track the device itselft, but the notification Android make when the device is connected/disconnected.

Wear Unlock will do it, but I experienced some battery drain (on the phone) that I believe was related to it (since it went away when i uninstalled it).
Either way, I found the app to not be as helpful as I originally thought, just because of how good the reception between watch and phone is. I have to basically leave my house before it would lock my phone, I was hoping for a solution that would lock my phone if I just stepped outside of the room. Plus, with Wear Aware I get vibrations when the two lose communication anyway, so its not like I'm going to forget it somewhere and wish it was locked anyway.

For me, the point is in case the phone gets stolen somehow. At least then it'll lock itself before I can get to a computer or another phone and lock it remotely.

To turn the screen on my Galaxy Note 4 sm-N910G on & off, i press the power button each 24 hour day............... 0 times.
I never touch the darn thing. The phone turns on when i pick it up off the table. It turns on automatically when i take it out of my pocket. It turns on by itself when i flip the wallet case open. It also turns the screen off when i put it in my pocket or flip the case closed or i put it on the table. How?
Get the app "Gravity Screen". BEST APP EVER. It uses the proximity sensor and gyroscopes to sense when the phone's out of the pocket to wake it from sleep. Do u guys use something similar? What cool things do u got going with ur smartphone?

...or use the spen!
Almost every time also to end a call : )
rarely when i use my wallet/flip case.
the official Samsung one makes use of a sensor to detect if it's open or not.
if it's closed the phone goes into standby and can't wake at all, and if it's flipped open it will automatically wake up.
Tried the app, couldn't get it to work consistently. Either the screen would come on when I didn't want it on, wasting battery, or it wouldn't go off when it was supposed to go off, wasting more battery. Tried all the different settings I could think of. Also the app seemed incredibly laggy at times, at one point becoming totally unresponsive - actually the only app I've ever experienced that with on my Note 4, oddly enough. Uninstalled.

It worked beautifully on my rooted stock kitkat ROM. I flashed 5.0.1 lollipop last month and decided not to root as i would lose OTA & thought Gravity Screen wont work good without root, but its working for me. No lags or unwanted on/off screen's. Tho if i were to choose, i think it woked better on kitkat.
It hardly has an impact on battery life for me. I get a full days battery everyday, & im a pretty heavy user. Leave the settings on default.
Samsung's got the inbuilt air wake gesture in settings, but i noticed it doesnt wake the phone often enough when u wave in front of the proximity sensor, it's a hit n miss thing. To me, this app works 100% of the time on kitkat rooted. Now on lollipop, about 95%. I love it.
If Gravity Screen isn't working right for anyone, there is another great App that's free & very similar. called: "Wake On Gesture" (playstore). Try that one. I got the paid one of Gravity Screen tho i think it doesn't matter the free version or full version. Wake On Gesture is all free. Plenty other similar apps out there, & i tried many of them. Most are ur basic ones, turn off when proximity is covered, turn on when it's not. These 2 apps have got the most settings that we can configure to our liking, i think the Dev's put in alot of work to their apps. Goodluck
Does anybody know of a method or app to add always on display? I tried an app from the app store and it worked well but killed my battery. Probably because it disabled doze and kept the phone awake... Anybody have any input on this?
That function doesn't work exactly perfectly on the Axon but I am using ACdisplay with some success. The always on thing isn't going to be exactly what you'd see on a Motorola device though. If you want the wave to wake feature as good as it gets, try ambient display through xposed but it's still iffy and ACdisplay has much better notification layouts imo.
This is one of the things that really bugged me about this phone at first, especially with the tiny, barely visible LED notification light. Not good synergy.

I tried that one actually. I liked the idea but the power consumption was pretty crazy. Had to uninstall. Maybe others will have better luck.
What you need is a way to allow the CPU to go into deep sleep without turning the display off. I believe this is hardware dependant, though.
All recent moto phone have their own low-power CPUs specifically for ambient display and voice commands without requiring the CPU to wake.
Oneplus devices support gestures while the device is in deep sleep, but this is a hardware feature built into the panel, which is why these gestures are not customizable.
The problem with both of these is that they're hardware-specific, so unless ZTE has made provisions for always on displays, active display, off screen gestures, etc, theres going to be a pretty significant hit to battery when using apps that do these things.

Sweet. I doubt the always on app uses whatever process the s7/g5 use to do this, is this something kernel related?
Thanks for the input everybody. If the Snapdragon 820 can support low power use like some of you suggested we may see this feature in cyanogenmod? (hopefully ZTE actually helps...) otherwise custom roms built on ZTE's base maybe. Although I doubt ZTE will add the feature to the rom in future updates.

It's awesome, plus your phone thinks it's on the lock screen. So you can shake whenever glance is active to turn on your flashlight.
Double tap to wake works WAY better.
Is also compatible with fingerprint unlock.
