DTTS, Fingerprints and Other Launchers - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Has anybody been able to get the fingerprint scanner to bypass a secondary security feature to open the phone after doing double tap to sleep while using a different launcher? I like Action Launcher 3 but so far every double tap to sleep app that can be controlled by AL3's gestures requires knock code to open the phone even if the fingerprint scanner is used to wake the phone. I found one that worked with my previous phone (GS7E) but it's not compatible with this phone. So far every app I've tried hasn't worked (including ones that say they are MM fingerprint compatible).

Ohh... So that's what happens. I thought my phone was randomly turning off the fingerprint feature. Using Nova and that's happening to me as well

It's something that's been happening since MM
you can double tap the status bar and it will work but limits you to double tap only on that area (even the Nova beta has the issue too)
In MM there was a workaround using Screen Lock Pro app form the playstore, but it no longer works in Nougat
Hoping the developer fixes it soon(if possible).

If youre rooted nova allows you to use fingerprint after double tap to sleep now

Use the app DTSO from the Google Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.enlace.doubletap&hl=en
Place an invisible widget on your homescreen & you have DTTS.
Yes,you do need to make room for a widget on your homescreen, but, unless you cram pack your desktop with apps/floders/etc...,this shouldn't be hindrance.
Will this work with secure locking,IDK,I just use swipe to open, but,if you're looking to regain DTTS,it's worth a shot.

DTTS is not the problem, we can get it to do that.
The issue is the secure lock and wanting to use fingerprint sensor on the subsequent wake.

I've had absolutely zero issues with my FP scanner and Nova Launcher Prime. I just tested your issue (double tap status bar, then unlock with fingerprint). I went straight back to Chrome, where I was previously. No secondary security hurdle at all. I'm on the tmobile variant.

Yes on the status bar it's fine but not any open spots on the homepage.

I've got double-tap on my home screen set to open Google Now. I didn't even think you could turn off the screen double tapping anywhere but the status bar?

Double Tap to Turn Off Screen with 3rd Party Launcher

I've seen a few people mention reluctance moving onto a 3rd party launcher because you lose the ability to turn off your screen by double tapping but there is a way you can do this with Nova and or other third party launchers with gesture controls.
1) Download a free app called Screen Off from Google Play and set it up
2) Set your Double Tap setting to launch Screen Off
Your screen will now turn off just as if you were using the LG launcher.
Alternatively, and with no need for a third party app, just double tap the status (notifications) bar

Or also at the navigation bar with tweaksbox.

Actually it doesn't (unless you're rooted maybe?)
Gestures that you can setup in native Nova do not include screen off.

Correct.....
The only way to do this is with a third-party app which I explained to everyone (thank you by the way for your thanks) in a different topic here.
For me, I just have xposed>gravity box
and go to nova sett.>gestures(need prime)>double-tap>shortcuts>gravity box>screen off.
DONE.

I have not been able to get the double tap gesture in nova to work at all. I've tried setting it to multiple different actions or apps, and no matter how fast or slow I double tap nothing happens. All other gestures work fine. For the time being I've settled with double swiping down to activate Screen Off.
Has anyone else had this problem with their G3 and Nova?

Look at my post above (post 6 in this topic) and click on the link I give.
This will take you to the topic where I mention what app to install and what actions you need to carry out in order to make it work.
Works fine for me. So far I have never pressed the power button on my G3.
Action Launcher Pro supports Double Tap to lock screen feature.
The problem I am facing with nova, apex...etc that I have exchange security enabled by my employer, all the guesters and third party apps that i tried is locking the phone with the Pin not just shutting the screen, the double tab on the stock launcher shuts the screen but does not lock the phone.
Did anyone find a work around using third party launcher or app ?
Thanks

Sorry Shortcuts
KK Launcher is pretty comparable to Nova and Apex, and it has native support built into it to double-tap your screen to turn the screen off. I've been using this launcher with my Nexus 5 for a while now and have been quite happy with it (compared to Nova). (I'm supposed to get my G3 later today, so I can't speak as to how KK Launcher performs on it yet).

I believe the latest beta version of G3 TweaksBox has a setting to get around the security features when using Exchange. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792242
Thanks a million, its working like charm, now i can use whatever launcher.
I have Nova as well and works fine just double tapping the status bar. Seemingly works better than LG'S...
Seams like there are a lot of different ways that everyone has to do this.
For me, I have been using Tasker to get double tap off with Nova Launcher gestures since the G2. Tasker is such a great app with about a million uses, I highly recommend everyone check it out. I have it setup to auto connect to different wifi's depending on my location, adjust screen brightness/ringer volumes depending on the time of day, and many others.
Action launcher is the best

Sceen Lock Widget that Reopens w Fingerprint?

Is there a free screen lock widget that locks v20 yet allows reopen with fingerprint rather than pin? I have tried several and they either don't really lock or require pin to reopen. Thanks!

Are you using nova launcher?
no
Screen off
but will it work with fingerprint? most require pin for some reason.
Why use a widget? Can't you just double knock to screen off and lock?
Only way for it to work is for it to set a timeout where it shows a blank screen until the phone shuts itself of. Ever since mm it has been this way. You can however double tap the notification bar to put it to sleep and still use fingerprint to unlock.

I need to disable. it since phone sometimes opens in holster by itself.
Yeah if you use LG's default launcher, you will be able to simply use Knock Off/On and unlock with your fingerprint. If you are using a different launcher then i believe you need root to be able to allow it to use double tap to lock without using admin. (Using admin to lock makes it require pin usage and not fingerprint).
Nova Launcher has such feature which is why I asked.
You might check out C Locker. It even has profiles where it won't lock when on specific BT or WiFI, or location.
As stated above, if you are rooted, you can get this working fine using Nova launcher (I'm currently doing that via Tasker but there are other apps that can do it too).
If you are not rooted then you may be SOL for now until changes are implemented on Google or LG's end (unless you find an app that is using the black screen/timeout workaround).
I also miss Gsam. Totally inaccurate in V20. Due to security changes in Nougat I'm told

Some initial problems I have noticed

First off the S8+ is gorgeous yada yada.....but here are some of my observations.
a) Notifications show at top as an icon but there is no preview, floating notification or anything of the sort to let me know if I care or not about the notification without pulling the tray.
b) Tray is white and hard to read. There doesn't seem to be clear breaks in between the notifications so everything runs together rather than a hard line separation.
c) The notifications on the lock screen are simply small icons with no detail, even though I have the "Notifications Icons only" unchecked in settings
d) Touchwiz doesn't rotate to landscape. Everything is customizable enough so Samsung doesn't have me running to replace with a launcher but I need it to rotate. May revert back to Nova......
I have the same issue with a). For c) double tap the home button and it takes you to lock screen with notifications. The icons are for AOD.

My complaints so far are Fingerprint scanner location, and the Bixby button. Why not just make an app for Bixby? If it's good, people will use it. If not, it's cause it sucks. To add a physical button locked to Bixby is just friggin lazy. Apple wouldn't even do that.
Update:
Thanks for the tip on the double tap of the home button on the lock screen.
Another issue is there is no way to programatically pull down the tray without dislocating my thumb. I installed a third party floating widget that fixes this.

Nova and other third party launchers let you pull down the tray by swiping down anywhere on the screen.
Go to touchwiz settings, enable the apps button (this disables the pull down to apps). The pull down gesture will now open app the notification tray.
Where do you even find TouchWiz settings?

Missing stock calendar widget on Nova launcher

I have installed Nova on my LG G6 and looks that everything is ok except one thing: there is no possibility to add stock calendar widget because it's not listed on widgets list. Can anybody confirm that?

Yes, and it also removes the stock weather widget which I happen to like. I also noticed that that since gestures like double tapping the screen to turn it off are a premium feature it breaks that stock LG function and you can't enable it unless you buy the premium version of Nova. I as planning on buying it anyway to support the developer but that's kind of lame.

Even then the double tap feature isn't the same to shut off phone. Does something to permissions and I forget the warning. I just double tap the notification bar which taps off the screen just the same, plus that works from any application, not just the home screen.

My wishlist...

I've now had my OP6T for 2 days and I'm starting to form some opinions around it. My first OP phone, came from the last couple Pixels & Nexus phones before that (also have a PH-1). I love lots of things, but hate a few things.
The things I'd like without rooting my unlocked phone:
1. Always-on Display (even if it eats 10% of the battery life!)
2. OnePlus navbar gestures in a way that doesn't suck for Google Assistant and doesn't break some apps by hiding the "Menu" buttons (TiBu is my only example off-hand). The long-press power button assistant shortcut is terrible, imo.
3. Google Feed/Discover instead of OnePlus Shelf
4. Figure out how to enable the "shrink the app to the icon on the home screen" animation I've seen online when you go from inside an app back to the home screen. I've not seen this work once on my phone (stock launcher)
5. Wallpaper on my home screen and lock screen to align properly (it's centered on my home screen but left-justified on my lock screen).
6. Clock to not blind me when I use the fingerprint scanner at night.
7. Dimmed fingerprint scanner animations (they also need to not blind me)
8. Hacked GCam app to use the telephoto lense when zooming
9. Let me use a gesture for lockdown mode, even if the screen is off
10. Remove leading zeros in clock hours (seriously, why is this a thing?)
Is any of this possible right now? I suspect a few things are my ignorance and there rest are just legitimate wishlist items.
Edit - SOLUTIONS!!
1. not yet fixed
2. None but I'm looking into a menu/overlay that pops up when you long-press the fingerprint sensor when unlocking your phone (keep it there for a few seconds after it unlocks). If I can find a way to activate this somehow while logged in, then we may have a solution!
3. not yet fixed
4. This works with OnePlus's custom navbar gestures enabled. This does not work with Pie gestures enabled.
5. not yet fixed
6. not yet fixed
7. not yet fixed
8. not yet fixed

---
Wishlist that I'll never get on this phone:
1. Fast charging with normal USB-C chargers (whether it's USB-PD or just 15W charging, I don't care)
2. Stop screwing around with non-standard USB-C stuff (dongle & charger)
3. Smaller curve radiuses (for both the corners and the notch)
4. Volume/power button arrangement identical to the Pixels, mute switch on the left side
Things that I very much appreciate:
1. Tap to wake
2. Gestures, even with the screen off
3. Fingerprint sensor *always* works in the dark, even if it blinds me
4. Status bar icon customization
5. The Settings cog is available after a single swipe down of my notifications (for some reason Pie hides this by default until you do the double swipe)
6. Silence switch
7. Perfectly-installed screen protector
8. GCam port, complete with Night Sight, working!
Regarding item 2, I leave the standard nav keys on, and use the OnePlus Gestures app at the same time. So I have programmable gestures and the stock nav keys.

Ahh, I was hoping to gain the screen real estate by using gestures and no nav bar. That would certainly solve the problem but at that point, I'd rather use the non-ideal Pie gestures.

Just set it up and the animations still have the huge latency and things don't drag around with my finger. Am I doing something wrong?
1. Classic nav bar enabled
2. Installed OnePlus Gestures + the Hide Navbar app
3. Granted WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
4. Disable navbar from the Hide Navbar app
5. Enabled third-party gestures: (swipe up on sides to Back, swipe up in middle to Home, long swipe in middle to Recents)
When doing this, if I do the long swipe up in the middle, the front app doesn't move around with my finger like it does with the stock OP-style gestures (there's a ~2 second lag in some animations).
If I change step #1 to use OP-style gestures and otherwise follow the same steps, then that problem goes away but the third-party guestures don't really seem to work (long swipe on sides won't open Assistant, for example, so I believe it's just using first-party gestures still).
