Is the 2nd Recall Official? - AT&T Note 7 Questions & Answers

So there have been announcement from Samsung related to stopping the production of the Note 7, but I have not seen anything official calling for a recall.
Has the CPSC launched an official recall?
Has Samsung said anything more than that we should stop using the device and return it if we can?
I am holding out for the official recall, as of right now Samsung is not even offering a bill credit for returning the device. The first go around they offered $25. I went to AT&T yesterday and they said they would take the device back, but there would not be another bill credit.
Just curious if there has been an official recall or process for receiving a refund for the device. I figured we could also use this thread as a place to track the options once the recall is made official.

Not official but att and as far as I know all other carriers take it back no questions asked.

They added original and replacement devices to the http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/ so I would assume both returns will prompt a 25 credit by the carrier or third party gift card.

from what ATT told me.... that to get the 25 credit, i had to chose another samsung phone to replace my note 7 I had returned, and also I had to eat the 20.00 upgrade fee too, ATT would`t refund that, only the first Next payment I had paid.
From ATT website:
Customers with a recalled Galaxy Note7 may select a Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, or Galaxy S7 active or any other smartphone, and may also return any Note7 accessories. If a customer chooses another Samsung device, he or she will receive a bill credit of $25 per device within 1-2 bill cycles.

Depends on who you get to talk to at AT&T. I got the $20 access charge waived from att for my replacement. This time I'm returning it and using my wife's iPhone 6+ until I get the iPhone 7+ 256gb I ordered. I think it's time for an OS change. I have never used an iPhone before so this will be fun.

yeah I thought about change to Iphone 7+, I got one for my wife for wedding anniversary present, and I played with the zoom camera takes really nice pics, but she has had some issues with hers, and it might have to get a replacement, sometimes when try to wake it up with the home button, it sometimes it takes few tries to get it to wake up, and taking pics the camera will just close with out touching anything, and she has had it lock up few times and just sit there and is not responsive at all, shes not power user, so who know`s, and when it happens........ she said i should have just keep my iphone 6+:silly:

I'm going to miss you guys D:

I want to hold out but can't help but worry about when or where it will burst into flames…. It's stressful I tell ya.. Lol. I don't want an s7 edge had it the first recall and didn't like it only one that even close is the. LG V20 but doesn't come out till the 24th or so…… so I'm just at a loss on what to do.

Seeing as there isn't anything out that I feel compares to the Note7 I bought a used nexus6. Had one before and liked being able to root and rom it to make it the way I want. It will work till something else comes out.

yeah I`m think about getting OP3 again, I had one right before I bought the Note7 and really liked it so that`s probably were I`ll go back too. when ever OP get them back in stock.

I think im just going to keep using my N5. If rumors are true the S8 should be good (if it doesn't explode lol) and they are going to bump up the release date to Feb next year. Ill tell you this much though, its going to have to be amazing and Samsung better offer a deal to those of us that had to deal with this n7 fiasco.
If not this is the last Samsung ill use/buy

Gave mine up to Att today. Back on my OP3. I actually liked the note 7 too. Usually a nexus guy.

I actually haven't received a text from ATT about returning my note 7 like I did the first time.

AT&T Free Msg: Samsung and the Consumer Product Safety Commission strongly recommend that you power off and stop using your recalled or recently exchanged Samsung Galaxy Note7 immediately due to fire safety issues that have been reported. Please return your Note7 and accessories to the place you purchased for an exchange. For more details go to att.com/note7
That's what I got today

no Service issues. Which was mostly true though. Several Note 2 replacements and SAME issue kept happening Was not a network issue as did not happen on any other device I stuck my sim in. I think it had to do with the area and the phone not liking how it kept wanting to connect to LTE
I tried a few days ago by calling in but they wouldn't budge for me, my contract ends in Jun 2013. I just did a test call to my nearest ATT Company store & mentioned that I'm thinking of leaving to TMO if I wasn't able to get an early upgrade for $199. They basic said ok cya in not so many words but would be willing to do an early upgrade for $499. Very disappointed with this but their lost. I;ll try calling AT&T in a few days when I make up my mind in staying if I plan to stay with AT&T to see if I can get an early upgrade. I'll give it a few tries before giving up if they turn me down.

I think it depends on who speak with. There are some nice people who have no issues with giving early upgrades and then there are those who just don't care. Keep trying! It's been a year since I got my s3 and I want to get the s4 and I hope they give it to me.

Hey be patient. You cant always get your way. They gave you a date which is one month away. Are you going to leave every carrier that doesnt give you your way? Geez. Good luck in life with that kind of mindset.
My upgrade was supposed to be this September. But I got it for $199 at the store on launch.
I did. I've been eligible since January. Opened contract march of 2012. But after some bad customer service I'm getting my s4 delivered tomorrow free of charge.

Seriously, what does life have to do with this?
anyways, If they don't want to give in to a loyal long term customer in good standing then so be it. I will leave any carrier if I find one that is cheaper for me & family & has better things to offer.

I'm jealous. Enjoy your new phone!
Walmart ATT mobility center moved my upgrade date from May 4th, to May 1st (today) and I got mine. Loving it so far. Can't complain about $168 at wally world!
I switched to AT&T from Sprint back on December 31, 2012. I got the Galaxy S III and last month I was having issues with making calls and getting GPS signal. After the troubleshooting failed, they went ahead and did a warranty replacement. When I got the refurbished phone, I told them that I wasn't going to accept it because someone returned the phone for a reason (and not to mention I hate the idea of refurbished phones as a consumer). After being transferred to several agents, one guy said he would send me a brand new Galaxy S III (unopened). In addition, he let me get an early upgrade to the S4. I will be selling me unopened Galaxy S III on Craigslist to make up the money that I spent on the S4 (not to mention a little profit).
Personally ill buy refurb over anything in most cases. Reason being most consumer electronics companies hand inspect/ fix returned devices broken or not! Meaning better quality control vs buying your new s4 of the assembly line which may or may have not been checked by a real human.. Think about it. Even though usually buying refurb results in worse warranty though..

AT&T guys, any movement on your pre order?

We ordered ours 2/24 around noon. I see all these lucky T-mobile guys getting their a week early... I guess Tmo is known to do that. Any luck AT&T does such things?
Would love to get mine early.
Also, does anyone know if they ship regular, or overnight it? I sure hope it's shipped 3/7 and not later! I'm anxious!!
No movement on mine. I got the T-mobile S6 last year and got it early. Att won't ship it early. In my experience they ship overnight but others have reported 2 day.

I always consider moving to them, but AT&T has had great call quality and signal here. Would have to jump ship and realize t-mobile sucks around here.
Ordered mine at 6AM ET on 2/23 and it still says shipping on March 7th.

Yup, me too actually. Although I could do with their free international data roaming, and overall lower costs! But AT&T mostly has reception when friends with T-mobile got nothing
Ordered on the first morning both S7 and Edge, no movement.
Well, I'm on AT&T but I ordered from Best Buy, so my shipping will be different—but from what I've gathered, T-Mobile is really the only carrier who ships early...at least ridiculously early. I think they pretty much stick to their guns and deliver it by release day, maybe a day or two early if you're lucky. I'm curious as to how Best Buy works in these situations, and if the carrier you chose has any effect on shipping dates. Anyone know?
Mine still says March 7th. But the Gear S2 (free with S7) which was supposed to ship by March 2nd thru 4th, just shipped via Fedex overnight!
Guess this means the pre-orders for the S7 could ship earlier than the 7th and should also ship overnight via Fedex.

I think the last times I have ordered a phone from AT&T it came via Fedex. Most things I get shipped come via UPS, so Fedex usually sticks out.
Yes, the next 10 days are going to go soooooooooooo slowly, I already have a buyer for my Note 3 (sold way faster than expected) so want the new phone to get here asap.
I got a free S2 when I went in and pre-ordered my S7 Edge. Sweet deal
I already sold my S6 so I am back using my Nexus 5. To say I want this phone now is an understatement...lol
Was the deal on at&t? They had a deal on my local at&t for a gear s2 free with the purchase of a galaxy phone with the exception of the s7 and s7e

Says on the website "Buy a new Samsung Galaxy smartphone on AT&T Next℠ and get a Samsung Gear S2 for FREE on a 2-year agreement. See offer details."
After I placed my order for the S7 Edge I called ATT and had the Gear S2 added. Just got delivered too.

You must have gotten lucky.
Must buy an eligible Samsung Galaxy smartphone on AT&T Next℠ agmt w/ qual. monthly wireless svc plan (voice & data). Excludes Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
The phone rep pointed that out to me, so i cancelled my order, and said i was considering switching to T-Mobile. Appearently the rep i talked to didnt want to deal with **** and replied "I hope you have a great day and an easy time with the switch." and hung up.
So, i think tomorrow im gonna go talk to the uncarrier.
FYI, I did some research and found that ATT shipped the S6 early last year! They shipped on 4/4. I and many other on here got theirs on 4/6. The official S6 launch was 4/10/15.
So there is hope.

And now that I think about it, the rep I talked to did sound new on the job... Well I'm really thankful now!
EDIT: Actually, I'm sure ATT changed the terms without notice. Maybe had set # of stock for the S7/Edge.
Ordered early the day it was available for pre-order. No updates made since that day and I'm not expecting it to unfortunately
Just tried to reps with att and got denied on the watch as it's not eligible with the s7 or edge. Ugh

Going Back To Note 5

I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and ordered a Note 5 (64BG). It's only been a week with this S7 but ultimately I've realized two things: I'm way too dependent on the S-Pen and even more dependent on root. Very much more than I initially thought.
Moving over to T-Mobile from Sprint has been a wonderful breath of fresh air and I want to continue enjoying this service but with a phone that I enjoy thoroughly. The S7 it turns out isn't that phone. I wish I realized this before I slapped down money for the S7 but I'll get that back and put it towards the new Note 5 that's arriving in the mail. The guy at T-Mobile I talked to was super cool and helpful about this.
For the past couple of days I spent many hours going back and forth between both phones looking at what I've lost with the Note 5 and what I'll lose with the S7 if I went back to the Note 5. Weighed the pros and cons and decided the Note 5 was the better way for me to go. I've been with the Note series since day one. Got the Note 1 when I was with AT&T only skipping the Note 2 when I got the S3, for whatever reason I can't remember. Since then it's been Note 3, 4 and now 5.
Initially I thought it would be a good experience going with the S7, smaller screen, easier to hold and I'd be able to enjoy the new Samsung features (IP rating, new camera, return of Micro SD) with my new T-Mobile service. I can live without those things for another few months until I upgrade (if/when) to the Note 6. I cannot live without root, lol!
Best of luck to all the S7 users! I hope y'all get root as soon as possible!

I feel ya that's for sure!! I'll probably hold out for another few months and see what shakes down. At least you're with TMo with some better rates and data speeds. I had TMo back in the 90's before switching to AT&T for a couple years, then Sprint for a couple years ( I wanted to slit my wrists on that decision ) but being back with TMo for the past 4 years has been great. Better customer service, better pricing, all the free data for streaming videos with Binge On!, more data for less in your plans, the list goes on. I have no complaints with service... my only ***** is John Legere allowing Samsung to send us phones with locked bootloaders. I wonder if he would have said something about in the very beginning and boycotted the device until they offered a Dev edition if things would be different. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, right...lol
May want to think about returning the note 5. The note 6 is looking at an early release. Normally the fall but a lot of articles have it appearing in early july.

If course it will be locked why wouldn't it be its the new samsung thing with new phones now .
Gladly MM updates did not lock s6 or note 5 but I can bet the n6 will be boot loader locked there's nothing pointed to why it won't be unless Samsung realized the anxiety caused by the s7 that would be the only hope .

We can all dream though can't we. Like you said, I'm hoping with all of the negative feedback with the S7 has received regarding the bootloader being locked may spark Samsung to go back to allowing for the bootloader to be unlocked. But, honestly, I would be just fine having the Nexus 6 manned by HTC.

Didn't want to start a new one but were screwed

Ok so many different forums started... I'm leaving my rant here.. Haven't read all these and I'm not...I'm on phone right now with Verizon as I'm writing this... I ordered the s7 edge to replace my note 7. She said
(1)Samsung is going to send out an update to disable our notes.
(2) when you trade in your device your locked into a 2 year contract. The 1 year upgrade Samsung doesn't apply to us.. She said that it only applied to new devices... She said that the note 7 is being played add if it never existed. So I asked well my phone is cracked on the back I can go through insurance and get a s7 and keep my upgrade. She said no assurion is acting like the phone doesn't exist also.. What about the money I paid into the insurance.. She said today should be refunded also back to you.
So in saying this. Buy the phone you want for the next 2 years, make sure the refund you also your insurance money. I don't know what I'm going to do or get now... As I told her if the phone never existed I would still have my note 4.. Not locked into a 2 year contract for a inferior phone

That's why Verizon and Samsung can kiss my ass. I'm not downgrading to make them happy. I'll take. My chances. Something happens, I'll buy a Note 4. Screw them. The Verizon people are clueless idiots anyway. You ask 10 of them, you get 10 different answers.
Call back, you will get a different answer. If you don't like that one, go to Chat and get a different one again.
Like this one. "There will be no further updates to the Note 7" then.... "Samsung will send an Update to disable all Note 7's".
heh heh heh....

If you block updates then this isn't an issue but the carriers may disable the IME#. Normally if an IME is disabled the phone doesn't immediately stop working, it can just no longer be activated.
Ha, well I've been ignoring the green battery update for a while now, and I'll continue to ignore it. I cancelled my order for the S7 Edge even though the clueless Verizon tech told me that upgrade wouldn't be held against me and I'd still be able to upgrade anytime if something I like comes out. I'm not green enough to fall for that one Big Red! Taking my chances also, until the next Note drops or something similar.

If you block updates then this isn't an issue but the carriers may disable the IME#. Normally if an IME is disabled the phone doesn't immediately stop working, it can just no longer be activated.

Yep. If an IMEI is blocked your phone gets "suspended". It's like you didn't pay your bill. This is a bad situation for every Note 7 user out there... Very disappointed but hopefull for a killer lineup next year

Killer line up that I'm not eligible for until the year after lol

Is there a deadline to return the note 7 and get your money back? I'd like to keep it until the s8 or new note comes out but worried they will charge me in full for it.
I just got done discussing the whole deal with a manager. Told me that all Notes must be returned or we'll see a charge for the full amount in our next bill. Take it for what it's worth. I wouldn't put anything past these a$$ clowns.

Wow, my bill is due tomorrow. Better start saving.

Like we've been saying talk to 10 different reps, get 10 different answers. I'm not sure they can do that, if you haven't broken anything. Recall or not.

Hey, it's something. But I don't recall anyone's data catching fire. Besides, the real injuries were suffered having to deal with the phone swap....twice. But looking on the bright side I suppose $2.67 is nuthin' to sneeze at. That is, for the lawyers because they can multiply it by 2 million.
I actually called them, to get in on it lol...But waiting to hear back from them to see if they can put in an addendum to add the carriers. About locking is into another 2 year contract.. Now if that could be achieved it would be worth it

Hope it works out for you. I know there will be other lawsuits in the future. One's that may yield a bigger settlement to us users.
It's pretty typical for members of a class action suit to have to agree not to hold Samsung accountable in the future when the suit is settled. This mean any subsequent suits are not able to be brought by the members that signed on to the last one.
Oh I'm not signing up to be in lawsuit.. Just wanting to give more ammo..I mean you're right..About more lawsuits, but the next one and the one after that will use the info from the previous litigation I assume
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
If Verizon tries to charge me for a device they willingly erased all charges for they be facing a class action lawsuit. This recall is also voluntary. Samsung had to put the recall out, but we don't have to participate. Verizon just wants us to, to clean things up on their end. I don't foresee them being allowed to charge us for something they dismissed. People don't participate in recalls all the time. They don't repossess or pull car notes if the owner doesn't participate.
Where does it say in the text message from Verizon that this is voluntary.. Everything I see from Verizon said this is mandatory..ok I'm wrong. Samsung is saying it's a voluntary recall, but if you call Verizon they say it's mandatory... And they will be turning off phones.

Hopefully we get them a day or two early like some did with the Pixel.
I probably should have waited for the note 8, but I miss my note 7 so bad I just couldn't wait. Currently running Pixel XL.
Got mine in too, I've been on a Moto G4 since I turned in my Note7. Got a Black Plus and even went ahead and ordered some case off amazon already. Almost went with the bestbuy deal but i've had issues with them in the past. I should have probably waited for the next Note but damn I miss having a good camera.
Ordered 2 S8s 1 black 1 grey and 2 S8S+ 1black and 1 grey. It's been 10 years since I've been a Verizon customer (coming from Sprint). It will be good to be back.
I ordered as well....does anyone know how to sign up for our free gifts? I went to samsungpromotions.com after I checked out but I can't figure out where to go.
NM you have to wait until you receive the phone.
I have ordered the s8 plus from Koodo in canada. Should arrive 04/17 according to them. ?

I know what you mean. I have the note 7 and then with everything that happened I was so over Samsung I jumped to Apple and picked up a 7+. That was a big mistake. I was going to wait for the note 8 but I just needed to get out of this phone.
Anyone on Verizon consider ordering the international variant? Or it still the case that it's missing bands that work with CDMA? This is when I start missing my gsm phones.
PS
Ordered s8 midnight black at 1205am EST, 4/21 expected delivery date.
PPS
Did anyone else get the warning that the s8 will not be eligible for an annual upgrade? Isn't that why we joined an early upgrade Plan?

Interesting fact: all the s8 devices on display in my local Verizon store are SM-G950U and SM-G955U. This leads me to believe that big red is selling software customized Unlocked models.

Well, generally carriers carry their own one off model number to identify the bloat that will go into the phone.

I did not. I ordered using my 2 year contract. All in $400.
Indeed, this is evident in the history of Samsung devices for Verizon (SM-N910V, SM-G900VZKV, SM-N915V, SM-G920V, etc) it is just interesting to see that it is a U vs. the usual V coding this time around. I'm hoping this will lead to easier root and bootloader access but only time will tell.

So if I order the phone directly from Samsung, someone please tell me it is not going to be branded.

I had my S7 Edge for a year and it is exactly half paid off. Verizon is taking back my S7, removing the balance of payments for the purchase of my S8.

Which is the same for me but I received the warning that the s8 will not be eligible for an annual upgrade. Chatted with customer support idiots yesterday and after some going back and forth I got them to state that my new phone will be eligible for upgrade after a year, chat log transcript saved.

OK I see what you are saying. Hopefully I will not have the desire or need to switch to something else for at least 2 years. But you never know. I would keep my Edge longer but I have an annoying issue of an over sensitive screen. It drives me crazy.

Yeah same problem with my edge with the screen. I usually upgrade every year lol, unfortunately I cannot help myself. I guess I've gotten better though since there was a time where I updated every 6 months... still need to update my sig lol
