Unlocked verizon S5; how to use it with T-Mobile? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys; I did get 2 S5 phones, both unlocked, but they came from different carriers. One is from ATT, the other from Verizon. One is a G900A while the other is a G900V; so the model is matching the carrier.
Now, with the ATT one, I just pop the sim card in, and it works (I have a nano, but it fits in the micro slot), the phone works fine, nothing wrong with it.
The verizon one is not liking it...I get a message that say that the SIM card is not present. I did think it was broken, so I did pop in an old sim card that is not working anymore, which is also the micro size, so the correct size, and the phone say that the sim inserted is not a Verizon sim.
I have no idea why this phone, is doing this. I was told that the phone is unlocked, but the strange thing is that it won't accept any nano sim (while the same S5 from ATT does take it without problems), and that it won't allow me to use anything that is not a Verizon sim. Did I buy a phone that is locked? Should I get another one of the ATT model? Reading on the forum, I did see that you need a verizon sim card for the first activation and then you can swap the T-mobile in, and change the network settings, but I do not have a Verizon sim card available, and before waste 10 dollars at the local store, I would like to know if there is anything else that I can do to make the phone to work. Or if I should just return it; this came from Amazon, so that's easy to fix. Thanks!

[Q] Boxed (included) AT&T SIM

Is there anything different with the included AT&T SIM card that came with my Tab, or can it be assigned to any AT&T account and phone?
Also, the Tab keeps asking me if I want to "activate" this SIM, what will that do?
It seems like a normal AT&T 3G SIM card to me. You can probably activate it for any plan and use in any store. I just put mine in the box and used my old SIM card with existing voice+data plan.
Nah, they are just incase you want to activate it instead of buying a new one from the carrier. Im with bell and thats what the person said.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE GT-N7000 HONG KONG need help!!

Hello I really need help here I originally have iPhone 4s and basically just got this Galaxy Note today a white one. Anyhow I went to ATT store and they gave me a normal size big SIM card so I called to have the sim card activated. however I poped it in the galaxy note and nothing no signal at all. I even called AT&T support and they just pretty much told me the phone is not compatible....IM LIKE THAT SUCKS. So my question is does anyone here have the Hong Kong version? White?
At this point I'm even second guessing if my. NOTE is unlock? Even tho the ad that I bought it from said its unlock...and how do I confirm it's unlock or not?
PLEASE HELP!! Spent 800 for this bull****!!
Mines the HK version and I have an ATT sim card I got from their corporate store. Went in, showed the Note, said I needed a sim card for it and the guy activated it for me and I checked it on the spot to make sure it works. If they did activate it, then you should get a signal after restarting the phone.
Ok so it does work with AT&T I assume yours is unlock like mine?
Anyway yeah they gave me the sim card and said I have to call since its a business account ....that's bull****. Also I didn't bring the phone in there.
You have th big simcard? Or the micro iPhone 4s sim card?
I have a regular sized sim card and yes its unlocked.
I wonder how do u confirm it's unlocked?

i would bring in your Note to an AT&T store to get the sim activated. I had issues getting my Note to recognize my sim card, this one time in band camp, I went to an AT&T store to get a new sim card activated. For some reason, it took the CSR like 3 sim cards before my Note recognized one.
You need to program into your phone the proper APN settings, so it knows how to talk to AT&T's network. Search for AT&T APN settings. There are 2 settings depending on which plan you're on; smartphone or dumbphone. Go to your home screen, hit menu, settings, Wireless and Network, Mobile Networks, etc. Being able to setup your own phone is what separates the men from the iboys.
Yeah, take it into a store.
Since they can actually see that yes, you do have a phone, they are far more likely to be helpful.
I called AT&T - the guy on other side of the phone didn't know what to do.
The lady in the store also hit the same snag, but she got around it and got my phone working.

[Q] SIM not valid - Enter SIM network unlock PIN

I have tried every code mentioned, in here, that was successful for others but not for me.
I started by buying my Galaxy S4, out right, at Walmart for use on Family Mobile. Poor signal everywhere except in my house. The phone has T-Mobile support as far as towers go. After about three weeks I had my phone number transferred to Straight Talk and they sent a SIM card for use with AT&T support. The phone was purchased as an unlocked phone, I did all the codes in this forum to check and sure enough, it is supposed to be unlocked, BUT, every SIM card I get from Straight Talk gives me "INVALID SIM CARD" when I boot up the phone then a black screen comes on with a subdued color message saying, "Sim network unlock PIN" and all the help from Family Mobile, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, Walmart and AT&T, have not helped my situation. I can't write a new APN and store it because I have an invalid SIM card. I have tried the service mode and did everything mention in these forums but no luck so far.
I really like the device(my NOT-Phone) but it does not function as a phone. Can anyone help with this one?

No warranty in Walmart?!
If it connects to T-Mobile towers out of the box, can you borrow a T-Mobile SIM from soneone and go through the SIM unlock procedure? I'd do that just to make sure it's SIM unlocked. Then try Straight Talk with whatever APNs they use. Do this on stock and once you can confirm you get that far and it's working then go crazy. Good luck.

If I put the original, 1st SIM (Family Mobile) that I bought, back in, I do not get the Unlock Sim code message but I also do not have service because I already had the number ported. I've been that route. I tried the APN routine but it won't save because I don't have service with that SIM card. I go into the unlock routine through the service mode and it says it's already unlocked. Any Sim card from Straight Talk gives me Invalid SIM.
I'm going to return it to Walmart and try another phone.

Galaxy S5 Sim Unlock?

OK, so I bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 from an friend of mine, and found out that it was from a different carrier than my phone before this one, (which I still have and could use if this can't be fixed) the S5 is from AT&T, and I usuall do Virgin Mobile. I know that when I put in my old SIM card it will ask me for a SIM key, which I do not have. My question is, is there a way to get the SIM key, or do I have to have access to my friend's AT&T account in order to get it? People say I have to call my carrier to get the key, but I'm not sure if that is how it works. Thank you in advance.
OK sounds good. But I heard that you can contact the network it came from to get it, or is it the network your SIM card is from? If it's the company the phone came from, then it would be AT&T, and would I need to have my friend's at&t account in order to get the Network Code? If that's the case, then I'll just have to use the website you gave.

sprint update work around.

After emailing essential about the update role out process. I was informed that sprint has to approve the new update. They did tell me that with for sprint you can simply switch to another carrier sim card and then do the update and switch back to your sim card. I don't have any sim cards laying around. Can anyone confirm this actually works.

I don't see why this wouldn't be true. I can tell you this is the case when other unlocked phones I've used in the past. I would swap with the wife's t-mobile sim to get an update before Verizon would push lol. Of course I'm assuming you have the unlocked model and that the sprint model does not differ in any way. I've read that if you bought the sprint model and activated the sprint sim it would sim lock the phone. I don't know if that's true personally, but I bought my wife the sprint model and she put her t-mobile sim in before turning it on and it works fine.
Yes. I can confirm this works. I had an extra inactive TMobile sim, popped it in and immediately got the push update. Updated, switched back to Sprint sim and all good to go.

I found an old at&t sim card and tossed it in and it didn't prompt me. Did you buy from Sprint on a flex lease? That's what I did and I'm thinking that might be the issue for me.
Yeah I'm on a flex lease. The update didn't immediately pop up, I actually did a network settings refresh with my TMobile (inactive prepaid account) sim and as soon as I did that, I got the update. Best of luck bro.
