Root Xperia Z2 Tablet (All Models/Regions) on 5.1.1 build 23.4.B.0.319 in 3 Steps - Xperia Z2 Tablet General

Hello everyone,
I've noticed that there hasn't been any threads about rooting the Xperia Z2 Tablet on lollipop. Most threads have discussed how to root the device on 4.4.4 and to create an update image to maintain your root whilst updating to 5.0+.
I've scoured the interwebs and found nothing so I'll make it easy for those whom don't know how to achieve root or don't want to do much work without creating images and such.
First off I'm not responsible for any inconvenience that may come with rooting your device and losing your warranty. I can and will be willing to help out in restoring or answering questions that you may have.
This method uses Kingroot... For those who have a problem with kingroot, it is only used to achieve root and this guide will also be showing you how to remove kingroot and install Supersu with ease. Using the link below download the necessary files: Kingroot V4, Supersume, XZDualRecovery 2.8.26. Place all these files on the root of your devices internal storage/SD card excluding Xdualrecovery as that needs a PC. (If you want to Xposed working I will also supply the files needed for that as well). https://www.mediafire.com/download/wrsajbgw2jr6czt
*Make sure you have unknown sources enabled under Settings>Security>Device administrators as well as Developer Options available and USB debugging enabled. (To enable Developer Options go to Settings>About Tablet>Build Number and click it 10 times).
1. Install NewKingroot.apk and run the application. It will notify you that a root method was found and to try it. It may take up to 2 minutes to achieve root. (If all you wanted was root and are content with kinguser then you're done! :good: if you want Supersu and/or a custom recovery then continue on to step 2!
2. Connect your Tablet to your PC via microUSB. On your PC open and extract the contents of TabZ-lockeddualrecovery2.8.26-RELEASE.combined.zip to your desktop. Now double click install.bat a screen will pop up providing you with options to install xdualrecovery. Choose option 2. Installation on ROM rooted with SuperUser by pressing 2 and enter. The script will run its course and tell you to grant permission on your tablet. Open up your tablet and a kinguser prompt will show asking you to grant or deny permission to ADB (Grant it!!!) afterwards your tablet will reboot on it's own to TWRP. (I advise you to either make a backup of the tablet now or after you install Supersu as insurance in case of any mishaps). Click reboot System.
3.Install Supersume, open the application and run it. It will of course ask to grant it permission (Grant it!!!) it will check the environment (making sure that there isn't any Pokemon nearby that you don't need... Sorry Pokemon Go reference) and it will begin removing kingroot and install Supersu. If you didn't have Supersu installed already great! It'll open up Supersu automatically. Supersu may ask you to update binaries (DO NOT click TWRP as it will reboot and you have to start the process over from step one!!! :crying: Just click Normal and once it says successful you're done! :victory: The next step is optional if you Want Xposed.
*Optional 4. Install XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk. Open your app drawer and open NDR Utils. It will ask for permission (Grant it!!!) now here you may choose your preferred recovery... Philz Touch Recovery,TWRP or Clockwork Mod Recovery. Click Reboot to Primary Recovery (fourth option) once it's rebooted you want to click install>SD>xposed-v85.1-sdk22-arm-by-romracer-20160620.zip and swipe to install. You should get a success when it's finished. Now simply reboot and your apps will be upgrading. Congratulations you now have root with SuperSU and xposed! :victory:
**if you wish to uninstall Xposed simply reboot to recovery and click install>SD>xposed-uninstaller-20151218-arm.zip uninstall the application once it's rebooted and you're good to go!
***if you have a problem with Supersume not working, reinstall Newkingroot.apk and run it again to get root. Then run supersume again (Grant permission!!!) and let it run its magic.
If anyone has issues, has questions or needs help PM and I will do my best to help and answer all your questions. Please don't be discouraged because I'm new here! I will be soon adding a link to a video tutorial on how all these steps can be done!

Glad it worked for you. Just wanted to help people out as I had invested time trying to figure out my own. I didn't like flashing files constantly so tried making easy.

Never had luck with kingoapp and today isnt any different

Thanks so much. I am away for another week but I can not wait to try this. I got a verizon z2 tablet since it seemed to be the cheapest 10 inch tablet. You have breathed new life in to it.

Power off device. While device is booting up at the Sony logo hold power and volume down/up (depends on customer recovery) until led flashes green and device vibrates then let go

That's great news to hear! I picked one up and wanted to root and I did on KitKat but when I upgraded to lollipop I lost root and rooted it the long way... Needed something simpler and couldn't find anything on here. So I wanted to make sure a guide was available to all. Enjoy and let me know how it went

If you're talking about your google drive, there is no kingoapp.apk in there
All there is:
- supersume.apk
- tabz-lockeddualrecovery
- xposed uninstaller
- xposed v85.1
- xposed installer

I downloaded the most recent kingroot, which worked on my Verizon sgp561, and then I used your superuser file to change over to su. Seems to work just fine.. I'm on 5.1.1.

I tried the most recent kingroot and it fails.
An old version gave me an error code of 0x162982

Root 4.2
METHOD 1 (RECOMMENDED)
_________________________________________________
thanks to Gnurou
"So, I have finally updated my SHIELD rooting method to support Tegra Note 7 as well, so you guys don't need to install weird programs on your PCs:
https://github.com/linux-shield/shield-root
Rooting by itself is quite easy, you need to have adb and fastboot on your system then:
1) Enable USB debugging in the developer options and plug your TN7
2) Download https://github.com/linux-shield/shie...7.img?raw=true
3) In a shell, issue "adb reboot-bootloader"
4) In the same shell, go into the directory containing root_tn7.img and run "fastboot boot root_tn7.img".
Rooting will take ~15 seconds and the tablet will reboot. You should then have SuperSU installed and working.
Note that these are not exactly the instructions mentioned on the README file of my Github repository. That's because TN7's bootloader is not interactive as SHIELD's for the moment, I hope this will be fixed.". All thanks to Gnurou
4.2 Chinese root method
METHOD 2
______________________________________________________
Ok so for starters the tegra note does come with an unlocked boot loader so that a big plus. To root I followed these steps..
"There is another method to root the tegra note easily if you know chinese......
You may download the software called Jin Shan Mobile Assistant at the site below:
google it --> (zs.ijinshan.com)
EDIT: HERE IS A DIRECT LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE ROOT TOOL
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2Sc2UBbSHchb1pBUGpPN2N1Sm8/edit?usp=sharing
click and download the PC ver. setup file at right handside.(wrote 支持设备:安装win8/Win7/Vista/XP系统)
After installation, plug in your tegra note via USB. Press the ROOT大師 at the bottom left corner.
It will checked your device model as P1640. Then press "確定". It will simply root your device immediately.
:good::good::good:"
Thanks to hotsuma2000
Once I was rooted using the method above I installed Supersu from market and it replaced the superuser from the above method.. I then removed all apps that were installed from using the Chinese root.
STEPS
__________________________________________
The .exe file to download is about 30mb.
Once you download the file run it using Windows.
Open the program after installation.
Make sure USB debugging is checked on your device. (FYI to get developer options go to settings about tablet and press on build number until a message pops up saying you have Dev options.)
Plug the tegra note into your PC and the program should then recognize your device at which point you will see the root option.
Click root and magic...
The root program will install it's own version of superuser but don't worry I will get to that.
Once rooted go to Google play and download Supersu by chain fire then open it. You should then be prompted to install.. It will say another superuser app is detected and ask to replace..
There you have it feel free to ask away anything on your mind
If I was a help to anybody please throw me a thanks

Where's the info? Please post the solution you found. I've been digging through forum after forum and have tried 3 or 4 "one-click" root tools. So far nothing has worked. I really want to use Titanium Backup on this device.
UPDATE I finally got root on my Tegra NOTE 7!!! The process was a bit haphazard and inept but after enough tinkering I was able to get it done! Since the method is a bit involved I would recommend waiting for an easier solution. That being said, for those, like me, who just can't wait feel free to PM me and I'll point you in the right direction.
feel free to pm me for instructions or direction
I would be interested in directions for how to root. Why not just post them in this thread?

Fantastic! It didn't work the first time I tried it, though I think that's because the program hadn't detected the tablet yet, but the second time it worked like a charm! It's a shame that PC program is in Chinese... it actually looks pretty cool! just double check make sure debbuging is checked... also when you run the program wait until it shows TegraNote sometimes you have to wait a little bit. It took me like two times before I was able to do it let me know if you the problem continues
Tried on another computer and it worked fine, installed SuperSU and cleaned up the extra apps. Thanks!!
Now next step is getting a custom recovery so we can do backups

Have not tried this yet but sounds ok.
Think I will wait for recovery as I want to try the exellent xposed framework on the note.
And then the wonderfull gravity box module.
Should be ok but safer to have a backup I think.
Thanks for finding and sharing this with us.

These instructions will work for the EVGA TN7, correct? Sorry to ask the question, but I had a thought there may be differences between the EVGA and AV models. Thanks for any reply.

[GUIDE] A tutorial to install the xposed framework on rooted HTC Desire 816 phones

I know many of us are quite frustrated with the xposed module installation on the rooted htc phones. The main culprit for it is the busy box application. This application contains all the terminal commands necessary to break the security of the stock mobile system. It is not a virus application though but install those commands and provide you the functionality to execute the framework changes needed for some important apks like Titanium backup, adfree, xposed module, etc etc..
On HTC devices with Kitkat 4.4.2 specifically, due to the (S-ON) security feature, the busybox app will not get installed easily as apk even on the rooted custom roms. It must be installed separately along with the cwm recovery after updating the supersu. That is why many busybox installers lying on the play store are not working/effective anymore.
It could also be due to the busybox files getting installed either in the incorrect path/location (due to change in the internal sd card path in 4.4.2 kitkat versions) or the S-ON feature must be stopping from installing at the right place. Whatever may be the reasons for not working, there is fix for this issue and the steps are outlined below.
DISCLAIMER: Please don't blame me if you corrupt your device by following the below process. I am pretty sure that the below process works flawlessly, but the reason for failing or corrupting your device could be a combination of several existing issues in your phone. So I take no responsibility for your bricked devices.
Now the coolest part:
1. Your HTC desire 816 must be rooted and should have working clockworkmod recovery. Otherwise this trick doesnt work at all.
2. First lets fix the busy box app - Go to playstore and download Busybox on Rails free apk from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.timos.busyboxonrails
3. Open the Busybox on Rails app, select the Operation option as "Cleanup & Install" and method as Recovery (and not "normal"). This will reboot your device into recovery and install the busy box application.
4. Reboot the system. Vola Busy box should have installed correctly now. To confirm that reopen the same Busybox on Rails app and see if the System Status shows up as OK. If it does, your busybox is successfully installed. If not by any chance, try repeating the steps 2, 3 and 4 again. It should work.
Some people install the terminal apk from play store and execute some su commands to verify if the busybox is installed properly. But that is for people having much knowledge on software scripting side of things.
5. Now lets install the xposed module - search for the xposed module apk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/framework-xposed-rom-modding-modifying-t1574401 and install it. Remember to download the xposed disabler apk zip as well, just in case if your mobile gets corrupted, you can flash that to bring back your original settings.
6. Install the xposed module and open Framework within the apk
7. Before hitting the Install/update option, change the Installation mode from defaulted Classical (Write to /system directly) mode to the middle one Recovery (flash zip automatically) mode. Dont change anything else in the settings.
8. Now hit Install/update
9. Phone will reboot the system into recovery mode, install the xposed module.
10. Reboot the phone and Volaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy the xposed framework in your mobile, which opens the endless opportunities to tweak your mobile.
Hit the thanks button if I have helped you in any way.
This method might works on all HTC models with S-ON security feature and 4.4.2 android Kitkat version, but have not tested it myself though. However, my friend did say it worked on HTC one latest model. Dont blame me if it doesn't by any chance.

The only advantage of installing busybox and xposed installer is to open up endless opportunities of tweaking your mobile to look and behave the way you want (in most cases). Also some finest apps like titanium backup, and others etc use these busy box services too.
The link2sd app may or may not work and in my view it is totally unrelated. I havent tried that much, so cannot comment much on that I am afraid.

It is very unusual to see that happen without you connecting to pc and trying to unlock the bootloader from HTC dev site. This was first time hearing that this can happen without trying to root or alter the mobiles internal system.
Anyways, to unlock bootloader, you have to go via HTC site and there is no other alternative as of now. The moment you unlock your bootloader, you will see that TAMPERED message in the hboot. If you are also receiving the red text while booting HTC that "This device has been tampered/altered and is development purposes only.... blah blah blah message", then definitely it has been unlocked bootloader.
May be your phone is a unlocked version, which requires the vendor to unlock the bootloader first and then have to unlock the service carrier. In this case you would get that message for sure, without you having to do anything. This way you will not have manufacture warranty, but will have the vendor warranty. Check with the place where you bought that piece.
Btw, if you find out that it has already been unlocked, then you might as well can root it as it makes your piece worth buying. All the best.
Hi, already follow the guides and steps given and now how can I know xposed working on my phone? What should I do next?

Fire HD 6 Root success with KingRoot APK

Hi!
Today, while doing my daily reading blogs, I found an article by El Android Libre (in spanish) of an app for rooting Android devices quickly, so I decided to try it on my own and effectively, the application success to root my Fire HD 6!. His name is KingRoot. I'm very excited, it worked, and so far I have not noticed errors in the operation of my tablet (at least, today). I could say that this is the ultimate solution to root the Fire HD 6.

UPDATE 12-05-2015 02:01 AM
This process is not yet totally safe and we have very little information. Indeed, it is possible to root the Fire HD 6/7, but there's a very high risk of the device is unable to boot.
Unroot instructions:
Open the KingUser app
Press the Settings button (upper right corner)
Then press the "Remove Permission Root" option
Confirm and wait a few minutes.
Reboot
Yay!!! Thank you for posting this, I will try it now
great news! plz report how it goes thx.

Trying it on my HD7 now. Are we forced to use the king superuser or can we switch to superSu after?

The SU binary will be saved in the /system/bin folder after rooting the Fire HD 6, so I think that while this binary is not deleted you can use any other app for root management like SuperSu.
Suh-weeeet! Can confirm, works on HD7!
Confirmed, my HD6 (well, my mother's HD6) is now rooted :3
I seem to have lost root on reboot though
Or maybe it's because I un-installed the app?
Now to figure out how to get the Play Store working...

I restarted my Fire several times throughout the day and still root.
What is the app you've uninstalled?
Here is a screenshot of Root Checker on my tablet right now.
Yeah, it's because I uninstalled KingRoot. Need to get SuperSU in here... somehow

Well, I try sideload SuperSu directly on my Fire but when I open it, the app ask me to update the su binaries, and a few seconds later shows me an error...
Any suggestions?
Has anyone successfully installed the Google Play Store?
Unfortunately, no. Android root stuff isn't something I'm too familiar with. I think we've still got a long way to go...
So what does the development road look like from here? Do we need a custom recovery before any roms start coming?
Thanks for this, I am excited to get home and play with my tablet!

I'm wondering how similar this Kindle is to the previous version software wise. Maybe some of the older methods will work now we have root?
This is the situation right now:
It is now possible to root the Fire HD 6 (and 7, as I'm reading)
The root is persistent while you don't uninstall the KingRoot app.
For now, you can not install the SuperSU app (throws an error)
Installing System Tuner Pro gives you the ability to uninstall system applications, review the logs of the kernel, modify the file build.prop, among other things (Other apps can also be used for do this...).
It is not possible (for now) install Gapps until to find an advanced recovery that it works with this tablet. Despite this, you can install some Google apps like YouTube, Google, and Google Search taking an alternative way. Read this thread for more information:
(Yes, there is still road ahead ...)

Here we go. This is for S320VLUDU2API3 firmware, but probably works on any revision 2 firmware.
KNOX should remain 0x0
Instructions
1. Enable OEM UNLOCK
In Settings>About>Software info tap the build number 7 times to enable developer options. Once you've enabled developer options, developer options will appear in settings just above the About device option. Open developer options, the 4th or 5th option should be “OEM Unlock”. Turn on.
2. Flash the eng boot image.
This is a special boot image normally used by engineers, it allows selinux to be booted in permissive mode with relaxed root restrictions.
Do not replace this image with the stock image after rooting your device or you will possibly soft brick your device.
(See below for how to recover)
ENG_BOOT_S320VL_API3
3. Install boot image:
Download Odin v3.11.1
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the ENG_BOOT_S320VL_API3.tar to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
Reboot
Check in Settings>About>Software, your device should be in Selinux permissive mode.
4. Install and run Kingroot:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
Make sure you have an internet connection.
You may need to run Kingroot several times to gain successful root.
5. Install and run SuperSU me to remove Kingroot and convert to SuperSU (not required) :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ore&pcampaignid=APPU_1_uzPDVbGyFcGNyATHrqmoCA
6. Wifi fix:
modify the line below in /system/build.prop:
ro.securestorage.support=true to false
Recovering from a soft brick:
Flash the stock firmware provided below wirh ODIN
https://firmwarefile.com/samsung-sm-s320vl
Good luck I hope it works for you.

Does it reboot itself as soon as SuperSU me installs supersu? That's probably the reason for root not sticking.
You could try the script below, I have confirmation it still works for the same procedure.
Steps 3 to 12.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ide-how-to-root-tripping-knox-kitkat-t3129484
Obviously use updated apps and don't flash the boot partition.
You will also need to flash the system version of SuperSU not EverRoot.
When you get to step 12, don't flash the firmware.
Disable EverRoot and just flash this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/v2-64-2-66-supersu-mode-t3286120
That should give you permanent root.
Sorry, but I don't use any of those apps you posted.

It's not related to the bootloader, the bootloader is still locked, it's simply an incomplete installation of SuperSU. Probably due to permissions.
Follow the guide posted above and you should be good. I'd also suggest using root package disabler to disable knox.
Hit search in the app and type knox. Disable all knox related files.

So can anybody confirm where we're up to with this. Has root been achieved? Are we good to post this as a viable root solution?

Hi,
still not rooting perm -- Followed the exact tutorial you have gave us , me and my friend and we both lost root.
stock > odin > kingroot apk > supersu me > flashfire > supersu-sytemmode.2.79 rebooted lost root.
the only way we can do this is not to ever reboot....to keep root

So even when flashing root with Flashfire still losing root? Did you try using the script posted above?
Also could you post a screenshot of Root validator after losing root?
I would also suggest flashing the stock firmware with FLASHFIRE.
Ensure to Uncheck the boot partition and disable EverRoot.
Add the system supersu zip to the install.
It may be remnants of Kingroot causing the issue. Flashing this way will ensure a clean system with just supersu.
Having the same problem
I can't even do the OEM unlock and wondering if Knox is stopping me from doing it. Kingroot gets to about 77% before giving up. Also tried "one click root" and "odin" and a couple of others. Tried to uninstall Knox with many different aps but noway will it let me. I bought this J3 in HongKong and it is full of crap and adds that pop up and cover the whole screen. I have had some negative affects on the phone with all the playing around I've done to the point where when I hold down the buttons (power volume etc) the phone just goes into its first normal boot screen and stays there. Hope I haven't hijacked the thread but thought I may have the same problem as the original thread poster

I was surprised at first when you directed me to this thread ashyx, the first word I saw was Kingroot and I was sure a dev such as yourself wouldn't use that.
I write against Kingroot all the time. It is information stealing malware that doesn't even give true root, packs PUPs, and sends IMEI and other info to China upon install (check the logcat).
And it's nortoriously hard to get rid of and replace with a different SU. From what I read above, true root hasnt' been achieved yet. Ive used KR a few times in the past, but never again. It used to be easier to replace KingUser w SuperSU. Not so much anymore.
Please folks, Kingroot IS NOT actual root ; please quit posting about it in a true professional developer site.
Ahyx, PM me if you wish. I'd like to work on any methods other than this. I can get the bootloader unlocked from Net 10. But not until having it hooked up w/ lthem for a year. I've already chosen to disconnect this device anyhow because I can't stand using a non-rooted phone. Too bad, it's a good machine. I got a great buy on it. $50US brand new. Same store today $99. WalMart = $120
I just bought an LG G3 for $45. Verizon model, interesting root. I had to downgrade firmware to achieve root. It's TWRPd, and running Dirty Unicorns 10.6, a nice rom, better once I mod it.
Tried the latest RR rom for it. Nougat was cool, but too early, too many bugs.

Beginner Tutorial - Unlock Bootloader + TWRP + Root

Hi everyone, I just want to share this tutorial for someone like me (NEWBIE, NOOB, BEGINNER, ZERO KNOWLEDGE).
ALL CREDITS TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNER.
PRE-REQUISITES
- Laptop
- Applications, .img files (https://mega.nz/file/igphSCTD#OybJo9t1zwvJ0bdbAcN2BCqxWXAfHdhk3JFB4_5xkVc)
- Your Nubia Phone
ENSURE THAT:
- You installed the application and driver (Minimal ADB and Fastboot & the driver from your Nubia phone).
- You updated your OS in the latest version.
- You UNLOCK the developer option (setting>>about phone>>tap 7x the build number) and you switch ON the OEM unlocking & USB Debugging.
- You approved the RSA request in your RM5G
NUBIA RED MAGIC 5G UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
1. Connect your Nubia in laptop, in your laptop, open Minimal ADB and Fastboot and type the following:
a. adb reboot bootloader
b. fastboot oem nubia_unlock NUBIA_NX659J
c. fastboot flash recovery recovery-TWRP-3.4.1B-0324-NUBIA_REDMAGIC_5G-CN-wzsx150.img
d. fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta_BL_skip.img
e. fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
f. fastboot flash parameter parameter.img
2. Go to your RM5G, select reboot to recovery
3. It will reboot in TWRP twice, in the 2nd reboot it will stay in TWRP, change the language to English and select the keep read only.

5. Press home button, then go to REBOOT, select REBOOT to RECOVERY
NUBIA RED MAGIC 5G ROOTING PROCEDURE
6. Go to ADVANCED, below there are list, select INSTALL ROOT.
7. Reboot your RM5G.
At first, my RM5G restart twice, I was afraid that it was bootloop, the 3rd boots, it booted up and its rooted already.
Also, when I first registered my Finger Print, it’s malfunctioning, so I just deleted the OLD FP , register NEW FP and it works like a charm.
Now, I managed to flash the wonderful kernel of @mslezak.

Note for those that don't know how to enable developer options - go to settings, about phone, click build number 7x. It should take you right to the Developer Options menu. Nice clear concise guide by the way! Glad someone wrote a simpler one than the one I wrote initially, only so many hours in the day.

Thanks for mentioning the dev. option. All credit to all of you guys who made this possible.
I've been trying for days to download the MEGA zip, but no matter what I do it always stays on 0% and gives me an error. I tried on different browsers, on different computers, and using the desktop app, I even tried with the mobile app with no luck. Could someone please share a mirror or another link, please?
Nevermind, I was finally able to download the file, my solution was to use chrome instead of firefox and close every window except the mega one... I left it like that for a couple of hours and it finally downloaded it.
Possibly a stupid question, but are there any downsides to this other than the risk of bricking?

Hi,
2 questions. First of all, does this method work for all of the 5G phones? As in the European version etc. And second of all, will the phone brick if you update it via OTA, or do we need to do this method every time?

I did set magisk manager to hide it from the app and restarted the phone even, but no luck the app still sees the root. Any solution for it? Thanks all
