Adaway in Android N (100% Working) - Nexus 5X General

Follow these steps and you will definitely get it working
1.Flash the latest Supersu.zip beta
2.Flash these files Check link here
3.Install app and enable it
4.It works

I wonder what changed with nougat in order to you'se this method?with MM and before the app was enough and just working well.

Basically Nougat made harder to write system partition. That zip applies a workaround making the default hosts file (/system/etc/hosts) a symlink to another host file in a writable mountpoint (/su/etc/hosts). You can find more info here https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/issues/770.

It is the same issue as discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-to-unlock-tethering-nexus-5x-t3231301/page20
The workaround described above doesn't change /system (which would get error corrected back to original), but instead masks the file in /system with an alternate one during boot.

Thank you very much. It works like a charm.

Work also with SuperSU?

Without this "trick" AdAway It doesn't show an error or fail... but it doesn't works. Try pinging any "supposed to be blocked" url. You may realized it's not blocked anymore.

I attempted this but it does not appear to have installed. I flashed via chainfire. Any ideas?

Thanks, this is much appreciated!

Yes, this "trick" essentially writes the hosts file to another location, and creates a symlink to it. This way it doesn't need to write to the /system/ directory.
There is a one-line command you can run in terminal emulator that lets you write to /system, but you need to run it each time you reboot, and it's a bit of a nuisance to do so. This lets Adaway work each time without the necessity of a terminal command.

Just an FYI, if you install SuperSU you can write to system and it will stick. You wouldn't need to do anything each boot in that case.

Strange, this is not my experience. I'm running PureNexus (7) and SuperSU Pro, and Adaway does not write to the system. It errors out, until I re-mount /system in terminal emulator

That is a different problem than the one on stock Noguat then.
On stock without dm-verity disabled, the kernel will use forward error correction to "fix" you changes (ie data corruption) and replace with original. Basically you make the changes and they don't show up.

Nougat , flashed and no app installed, I downloaded adway from official website and working.

Link to original thread just for sure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753

Please create Update for Android O.

AdAway works fine on O; no change from Nougat.

[ROOT] Stock ICS Leak One-Click Root Tool

Hi all!
First off, I'm new to xda Developers so please excuse me if this is in the wrong forum! I thought I'd post information about a tool I wrote here which roots stock 4.0.3 leak on the A500, A501 and assumingly the A200 too. Its literally one click - just enable USB debugging. "ICS Root" also installs, optionally, FaceLock and Trebuchet (although FaceLock doesn't want to work. It lets you set it up though =P)
Since version 5.0.1 this also now works with the new 0.022.00 leak!
The full post is over at TegraOwners: http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=350
The only real system requirements are Windows (with .Net Framework 4) and an Iconia on the stock 4.0.3 leak. I hope somebody finds this useful its been tested by myself and a couple of TegraOwners users and it works well.
In terms of the technique used, it uses the great Jay Freeman's mempodroid exploit to gain root at which point it mounts /system rw and installs su, busybox and Superuser.apk so no real surprises there. Installing Trebuchet adds that apk to /system/app and installing FaceLock installs the apk to /system/app before installing the pittpatt folder to the flexrom (mounted as /system/vendor). I plan to open source it when all the requested features have been implemented and the code has been cleaned up.
Thanks!
~blackthund3r
EDIT 14/05/2012: ICS Root 7 is out enjoy!

why would it not work with cwm version?
With this tool does system remain writeable after rooting?
What about flashing CWM with acer recovery installer once rooted? I guess it would screw the bootloader...

If you are on the cwm with the HC boot loader it should work as Its Magic will be run..
if you are on the new boot loader as in the full non modded leak.. It will give you secure boot error ..
The new boot loader Blocks its magic.
Thanks
Hey this worked easy. I had to re-install USB drivers and make sure I had the latest from Google. Other then that, hit the button, wait about 1.5 minutes, and it rebooted! No problems thus far! Thanks Again!

After reading the other post, I have found that I cannot write to the system directory from the device itself. The folder attributes indicate that it is set to write, however File Explorer HD will not let me. I have tried to create a folder in the /system and it will not accept the addition. The strange thing is that Root Check says it is rooted, File Explorer HD accepts putting it into Root Explore, but that is it. It is odd. I will try to reapply the Root to see if that makes a difference.

Please, read the op before bringing this up. This method is for half root, its the only way possible right now on stock leak ics. There is a special script you need to use to mpunt system. You can find it in the stock leak thread, run it in terminal or use rom toolbox and set it as a script to run at boot because rebooting loses write privileges.

Version 3 came out this morning
It features some bug fixes as well as a completely new remount menu which mounts /system rw properly on the fly. Tested with a busybox installer app
Enjoy!
Thanks for your tool blackthund3r !
I tried it with the new leak from this morning and it doesn't seem to work anymore
Edit :
Just to be a little more specific, the app says the process was OK and state that the tablet is rooted but the tablet doesn't reboot by itseld and su is not installed. I tried to install su manually but it's unable to find a previous su package on the system.

ah okay it appears a completely new leak has been released. It is possible that the mempodroid exploit has been patched up. I'm gonna look into it soon. I can't much tonight - I have school work. I'll see what can be done and what the differences between leaks are.

Hi blackthund3r
Thanks for the update 3.1 but could you please fix the problem on your hosting website? clicking on this file send to an error warning.
The other files can be downloaded though.
can someone post a mirror to the 3.1 version? current link is not working.
can somebody also confirm, if i root with this tool, i will be able to reinstall my clockworkmod recovery through 'acer recovery installer' and flash any other cwm rom? or do i have to downgrade to honeycomb 3.01, install iconiaroot for honeycomb and then acer recovery installer?
Gersma,
I'll be able to answer to your question as soon as I'll be able to download this tool and test it.

FIX UNMOUNTABLE SYSTEM AFTER ROOTING
Let's keep this short and simple.
This allows you to mount system even if you root.

Jokes aside. Just hit the download button.
Technical details:
This disables RIC service and the script is by NUT. RIC prevents R/W when system is booted.
Thx for your work!

Had an issue with /system, and this has fixed it. NC works, I can still use Xposed, AdBlock, and change my DPI. THANK YOU!
Don't suppose there's any way to fix this without a custom recovery is there?
I've rooted but can't mount/write to my System folder after doing a 4.4.4 OTA update, but I don't have a custom recovery installed. I just rooted using the toolkit and left it at that.

AdAway cannot apply host file

Hi guys. I just installed and rooted (normal root) Android Nougat. Well, adaway seems not to be working, when i tap "Download and Apply" it says "Copy failed - Copying of host file failed". I think it's because the system files does not have the "write" permission =\
I also installed busybox
Any suggestion?

xposed framework for huawei p10 lite?

Recently it has come out xposed framework by rovo89 for android N:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
Has anyone tried it on the p10 lite, with rom stock + recovery + root? or in some other device huawei with rom stock and emui 6?
Thanks in advance.
I've tried it and it works fine, but since I rooted my p10 and installed xposed my battery started to drain noticeably faster, so I went back to stock.
I use xposed with magisk v14 and no battery drain(I think)
Testing and work fine.
Some times, after reboot, xposed in disabled. Need run this attached script on init, in /su/su.d

I am facing the same problem and when I tried to use your solution its not working either.
I somehow able to found out the error (by using init.d scripts app):
Path is not correct for
/data/user_de/0/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/enabled.modules.list
/data/user_de/0/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/modules.list
On checking the path appears to be correct. Then whats the issue here? Please guide.
My P10-Lite is rooted. So I can see the path actually exists in my phone's root folder.

As the title states, I want to make it get help making or have someone make(lol) a flash able zip to install hosts file of my choosing to /system/etc
Have you tried adaway? Only issue ive had is Google adverts on shopping listings.
Good idea though, but you'd need to update constantly.
Adaway is way more practical.
You need to use magisk, either a module or adaway with systemless hosts enabled in magisk manager.

Ahhh buddy, this is why you explain what operating system you're on, what firmware when asking about a problem, especially when it seems odd to others.
This question should be asked in the RR thread, as it's not relevant anywhere else.
I've never used RR but anything I suggest is going to be futile because of the fact that you're running RR.
For example, Titanium does not work for me on Carbon, simply would not see root so I couldn't restore a thing.
The advice I've provided in regards to what needs to be done in magisk to get adaway working is accurate..
For RR id have thought that it would be the same, now I don't think that's the case.
See what they say in the RR thread mate.

You can't delete them, it's impossible. All devices launched with Android 10 and dynamic partitions have read only system, vendor, product etc and zero free space is by design. That's why magisk is the only option.
Tell your custom rom dev to reserve free space and allow R/W for system when compiling the ROM, that's the only way to directly modify the system.
Systemless hosts does work on custom ROMs, I have tried it myself. After enabling systemless hosts, reboot, then open adaway and try again.

Yes, and it's called Energized Protection or whatever adblock module in manager. Take the source (as reference), edit hosts and zip it up.
It's pointless to update the zip because whatever installation method it has won't work, only a module will work which is basically creating a whole new zip.

It doesn't get overwritten because it doesn't modify anything in the first place. It's not possible to modify the system on stock software. Either magisk or VPN based adblocker like Blokada is your option.
