What version? - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, this is pretty silly question.
Phone says retasia, so this is asia "model"? Same as India?
Just wondering because I ordered phone from England and I live in Europe.

What does it say under the heading "Hardware SKU" in About Phone in your phone settings?
My European version reads "lux_reteu.reteu.en.EU retGB" under System Version. So it makes sense that your phone is the Asian version, unless you've flashed the Asian ROM on your EU phone?

Flash new version

Hello,
I'm really sorry for this question, but I am kinda new to Android, used Windows Phones for couple of years. I live in Eastern Europe and I just bought S4. But my phone has older firmware version and it doesn't offer any updates I want to flash the UK version, how to do that? And will I get updates for UK, not for Eastern Europe afterwards? I have i9505.
Okay, figured it out ))

No help? :/

How do I know what region my phone is from?

Hi guys.
Long time lurker. First time poster.
How can I see what region my phone is from. I bought my phone through Orange. I'm in South Africa.
If I go to Settings>About Phone>Regulatory Information. I see the words Europe, Australia and India displayed. So I'm quite confused as to which one it actually is.
I'm not allowed to post a screenshot as I'm a new user on the forums.
Thanks.

Where did you buy your phone from?
If you got in from India its the indian version and if you bought it from Europe its the European.
Check your model number if its the XT1562 its likely to be the indian version.

I bought it through the South African Orange store. The model is XT1562. The reason why I'm asking is because India and Canada has received the Marshmallow update. But I have yet to receive it. Making me believe that my phone is a European version.

When you are in "about phone" just scroll down to see "baseband version" and "system version" those two items will tell you exactly where phone came from as long as it's still stock and hasn't been modified. System version should have abbreviation of country in it like LA for Latin America, CA for Canada, EU for Europe etc. Baseband relates to wireless operator who sold it originally, mine came from Canadian operator Telus so it has "Telus" in the baseband name. Hope this helps you out.

I can't post screenshots yet, so I'll type it out.
System Version: 23.21.10.lux_retasia_ds.retasiaal.en.03.retfr
Baseband Version: M8936_2020613.22.03.21.33R
LUX_EMEA_DSDS_CUST
The only thing I really see that points to anything is the "en". Is that maby England?

My phone (UK set) has "reteu.EU" on System version while Baseband version is almost similar as yours. EMEA means Europe, Middle East & Africa. So I'm guessing your phone belongs to EMEA region as mine which currently undergoing soak test for MM. It won't be long I think, maybe as a new year present.

I went ahead last night and downloaded the Indian 6.0 version from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/moto-x-play-marshmallow-6-0-ota-t3267061
Every digit from the file matches my system version. So I was very confident that it was going to work. I put the file in the root of my sd card. Restarted my phone. After putting in my pin I was immediately prompted with system update available. It took about 10min to complete. Everything working perfectly so far.

If you buy the international version of the Axon 7, it's different. A lot.

So today I've realized something important.
I have the Axon 7 (the international version, not the US version) and I wasn't aware of the difference between the versions.
I've had a lot of problems, apps, UX problems and other stuff that were bothering me and I joined the Z-Community (ZTEs forums), and apperantly there are two versions.
The US version, and the international version.
The main differences:
The US version gets the updates before the international one for some reason.
The international version has a few minor bugs / features that were removed in the US version. Soon they should be in sync with the updates.
I've been hearing about a better experience with MiFavour from people with the US version. Mine wasn't that good and I'm waiting for the updates/an official cyanogenmod release.
If you buy the Axon 7; It's an excellent phone. Top notch. Just know that if you're buying the international version, you're going to have some minor difficulties with the ROM/launcher, but they will be resolved in the future as updates get in sync.

You can just install TWRP and install the US version of the ROM, and also make sure to flash the bootstack zip file after so everything works
I also have the international version (G) and currently I'm running Cyanogenmod mod which was made for the U but all you do is flash the bootstack zip that comes with the stock firmware files
Hello and Merry Christmas!
Some questions .. unlocking the bootloader, install twrp, install ROM, install the US version of firmware or cyanogen flash, due the loss of warranty? as she works cyano? Problems or bugs?
Why would you buy Int version unless it was a lot cheaper. The main advantage of Axon is the warranty and I doubt you will get any if you bought Int version.

The US version has a Stock Android theme that includes an app drawer. The Global version has a more EMUI-like interface, with no app drawer.

I bought the Italian version for better support. However I did not think that updates, in Italy, they were so slow .. Can I install firmware US or international, and then, if I need assistance, restore the original Italian firmware without a trace?
the Italian software is full of bugs and stopped the b06 release...

No. sorry, I have not explained well. there are no exactly Italian version. Actually is the European version of G. But the purchase made by Italy through Amazon, laid down a special guarantee that is called VIP. I do not know if it is present in general on sales in Europe. however, if I had bought the US version would have no guarantee VIP, (as well as not have all the 3g / 4g bands used by some of our telephone operators). at the same time, however, the European version is definitely defective, with many bugs. I do not know if the bootloader unlocking (and flash others firmware or rom) causes an indelible mark of "tampering" from which there is no going back. Probably so, I will return the phone.

Because the international version is cheaper and gives you a 3 year VIP warranty which is better than what the USA offers.

As far as bootloader unlock it works on A2017G, although it's a little risky and one might brick the phone... And there is no special mark and one can simply re-lock afterwards

perfect. thanks for the info ... by chance, could you tell me a link with some guidance and / or recommend some firmware or ROM that works well (or better) of the European stock b06? It would be good with some ROM you do not lose the DAC functions and Dolly Atmos .. I do not know if the US firmware is compatible (see the modem problem \ bands 800 \ 1600 etc.)

First you need to unlock bootloader... For A2017G I don't know a guide, I have US version, but maybe someone else can help out...
Then you can flash the US stock version or the modded one from DrakenFX that is stock based and therefore has same audio features (check ROM section)
And as long as you stay on A2017G modem (better back it up) all the ROMs are compatible with all different phone versions as all share the same hardware except for some hard coded modem stuff

Buying a carrier-branded S8 from another European country

Hello all,
So I'm tempted to buy a Tim-branded S8 on Amazon.it because it's crazy cheap currently. I'm not in Italy but from what I've gathered online (and confirmed by a review on the product's page on Amazon), branding in Italy doesn't mean sim-locking so it should be usable with my local carrier. I'm in Europe anyway.
The only major difference with an unlocked phone (since it doesn't seem to have any hardware trace of the carrier) will be the software : potential TIM-related bloatware, delays for updates, etc.
My question would be : could it be possible to flash an official "clean" image, without affecting the phone and its warranty ? If so, which reference should I use ?
Thank you very much !
Yes, was going to ask if it was also sim locked.?
What county are you in and what sim do you use?
Out the box, if sim unlocked, it will work anyway.
Unless you want any advanced features.
Fw wise it's not a problem. I went the other way though, flashing EE ( UK) firmware into an unbranded unlocked BTU version to get VoLTE to work. It caused no issues.
Belgium but I guess European models pretty much have all bands available across Europe...
Thanks for the feedback !
I have the tim s8 here in the UK, flashed the h3g firmware and have WiFi calling and volte functioning without issue.

hi
Im also interested in buying a tim branded phone (https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B071RSVYSH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A11IL2PNWYJU7H&psc=1) and was hoping if someone who has one could answer me couple of questions.
1) Does the phone have universal warranty? I mean if something was wrong with it and it needed any repair, could I just take it to a local Samsung store?
2) The model number on amazon site is G950, is that different from G950F? i couldn't find any reliable info on this..
Thanks in advance!
If the phone is designed for the European market then warranty applies regardless where you are (within Europe).
All European models are F-models.
You can flash an unbranded ROM through Odin to get rid of any branding which does not trigger Knox.

Are there any different firmware versions for H870?

Basically I want to make sure I'm running generic H870 firmware so I would get all the updates faster. Is there a list or something? I've tried searching but it's either for different G6 versions or just a list of H870 updates by region, not the version names themselves. I would really appreciate that!
EDIT: Okay, found the list. Now which one should I use? https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h870-firmwares/
Depends on where you are. The H870 is the international version, so any of the EU or UK firmwares will work. Easy check is in settings about phone
software info. Software version. Mine is UK and version is V10r-234-30.
International will show v10(letter)-Global-number and EU version will be EUR in middle. Different EU countries will have their own I.e. Germany is DE. Hope this is of some help.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
you can use all firmwares whos for the H870 Model. EU, International, south America. If there is for example an south america FW that is newer than the EU FW, you can flash it, as long the FW is for the H870 too.
