brightness dimmed suddenly due to overheating and thermal throttling? - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my one plus 2 yesterday, really like it, but every time i use it for like 3 mins, the brightness will suddenly drop, it seems due to phone is getting warm, so I checked the CPU temperature is about 39-42C.. I had max brightness and turned adaptive brightness off.
Any suggestion? Is this normal? I tried different kernel but no luck literally I just keep using this phone for 3 mins and suddenly screen brightness dims...
Thanks

I also have this problem
tried everything
-setting
-change on thermal setting w/ root
-change Kernel
-change ROM
-OOS 3.0 Beta official
Nothing helps

That's normal. Limiting maximum brightness is one measure Oneplus control thermal throttling.

If you're using setcpu, try these profiles.

1. Dont set any of them higher then 1075. I've found that on multiple HD2's that higher then that causes instability because the chip doesnt like to be pushed that hard.
2. I have my primary profile set to 1075 max, 614 min, and getting good results.
3. Set your primary to interactive, and all profiles to interactive EXCEPT your low batter profile.
4. Add these profiles:
Temp >
Charging/Full
Batt < then
Screen off
-Temp > Set the temp around 40 degrees C. Set to interactive. Max around 576, min to 245. Reccommend auduable warning on. Priority to 100%
-Battery <. Reccomend you set to around 30% battery. Powersave mode, max around 576 or so, min at 245. Priority at 90%
-Charging/Full Max to 1075, min to somewhere in the 500 or 600's, or higher if you want. Interactive, and Priority at 80%
-Screen off. Set max to 576, min to between 300-450. DO NOT set min to 245, as this may cause a screen freeze when it tries to wake up. Interactive, and priority to 50%
Thus far, this combination of settings has, on the multiple devices i've been playing with (about 6 total at the moment) is giving the best battery life, and the least amount of screen freezes on wake up.
Thanks for sharing these. AFAIK setCPU is quite important to the stable and productive (sans improved battery life) of Android on our beloved's.
Personally, I've taken to 245/245 for sleep mode. I haven't noticed a "groggy" wakening, but maybe I'm alone here...otherwise I like your settings.
Thanks again for taking the time to post.
android can run perfectly at 650+ mhz max, 245 min

I used to use 245/245 on sleep, but noticed a 4-5 second delay on one of the devices.
Actually, that may have to do with your SD card itself. my phone (running Bangsters 1.3b build) has a rare delay on awake, and a class 4 card.
Another HD2 running darkstone has a consistant delay, 245/245 and its running a class 6.
And still another has no delay, and is set to 245/245 but the stock non-speed rated SD card..
I have constant screen freezes on any build i use. bangsters1.3b has the lowest. it only freezes when i am in a phone call and the screen turns off. It lasts for about 15 seconds to 1m. then recovers. makes for some interesting post ended phone call conversations.
Trying your settings, MadRabbit.
Will give it a try, thanx
Should be better if we post our impressions so far within 24 hours

Yep, that way we can find tune the settings for what works best.
ill give this ago i dont tend to get slow wakeup problems but i do how ever get screen freezes so hope this helps as when i playing a game it can make it really hard to attack people when screen isnt picking up my figures
What exactly is the interactive governor? And why not set the mins to 245 so the processor is scaled down when its not being used?

Minimums may cause an issue with the phone when it wakes up from sleep, especially if you have a higher class memory card.
I've noticed that my usual drain became slow during last hour, I'll report better news tomorrow, leaving device in stand-by at 69% battery left.
Ok, i didn´t think i was that stupid at this but now i don´t know anymore
I´ve searched both in andoids market and on the XDA app on the phone but i can´t find the app setCPU.

From 69% at 12.15 AM, battery dropped to 61%.
That's what I've seen when I press the home key at 6.45, cool :;
thanks man! just tried your setting, and then used current widget to check : 4mA when the phone was in sleep mode. This is the lowest result i've ever have ( i got 7~9 mA before)
ive ran this setting today and battery its definitely draining slower... ill report in a few days of using these settings...
I use it until this morning and I find that very good.
@madrabbitt : I take the permission to put your post on a french forum :

I hope you're not angry !
Thanks a lot
Thanks! I will try your settings, mine were a little off and gave me 45mA in standby One question though, what sample rate do you use? mine is still default (50000).
I have setCpu 2.03 installed but i can't find the Interactive setting?
Where is it, or do i have the wrong setCpu version?
Grtz

Phone Idling at 400-420 milliamps

After seeing the charts done by Sky with the kernal comparison using CurrentWidget, i decided to install that on my setup. I was shocked to find out that after 10 minutes of screen off, sleep it was idle at 410MA average. The smallest I saw was 360. That seems rediculously high. I have noticed a massive drain like many others seem to have as well. I unplugged from the charger at 11am today, no facebook, no games, 2 texts, and checked email once. I am now sitting at 60 percent.
With or without SetCPU it still has very high draw.
Has anybody with high battery drain installed CurrentWidget and checked to see what the ma draw is?
Setup:
Fresh 3.3.0.1 w/stock kernal
No setCPU and with SetCPU (Screen off profile: powersave 245. Conservative governor screen on.)
Newest radio, wimax, prl, nv (0 TWS)
Wifi, GPS, everything off, including random account syncs and Google Talk
Using froyo unrooted w/ latest updates I get 300 half brightness
Edit: more testing shows 230 mA with backlight off and 198 with it at half??
Edit2: I can pull a max of 688 with the works running a speed test. Bluetooth 4g WiFi gps hotspot max brightness. Still no oc.
Edit3: some things I noticed: task managers do not save battery (already knew that, first empirical example), moving widgets around the screen can get your current draw as high as having all of the radios on at max brightness.
Final idle power draw is 180 mA.

High brightness = freezing

While using phone (longer) or while playing games with Brightness set to 70-80% the phone tends to overheat and freeze.
But when brightness is set to automatic (in my current enviroment its mostly low brigthnes) the whone doesnt overheat or freeze.
Is this behavior normal for HD2. IM using it for 4 days now.
Freeze on heating is an issue with the HD2. Mostly when batt-temp goes over 45 °C.
Gives a lot of fun in high summer
either send it in for repair or replace your battery. I use my phone constantly when plugged in at night and it has never frozen on me dispite 100% brightness and being in a silicone case..

Galaxy A5 2017 (A520F) overheating issue

Hi guys and girls,
I've got my A5 a few days back, and at start it worked great. I've messed up with a lot of software, tried everything out, and instead of uninstalling everything I thought it'd be best to do a factory reset. That's where my problems started.
While I set up the phone and installed all the apps (updated) that came with the phone, connected to a 100Mbps optical internet via AC wifi, I lost about 15% of battery. Okay, who knows what the phone needed to do, lets move on.
Next day I was just using Whatsapp, messaging with my gf, and the phone was a bit warm with 20-25% brightness (auto-off). The battery temperature was 32-33C, and I used an infrared thermometer and measured 33.5C on the back of the phone at the Samsung logo. Then I just browsed the settings, setting up my phone a bit more, and it was still getting warm, getting anywhere between 31 to 33C on the battery and around 33C with an IR thermometer. I still can't say much about battery drainage but the phone is getting pretty warm even while browsing the web or doing non-intensive tasks.
Does the A5 2017 get warm or is it just me? Should I RMA it?
Have a520f, 33C is near average. But it's also dependent on the weather. Fast charging or charging with the screen off will raise it. If it wasn't always like that, maybe something in the background is using the CPU, checking for updates or notifications. The CPU/GPU is like a car engine, running at various 'speeds' and 'weights it is carrying', and it does get warm. Only if it gets hot, then it's a problem. Many apps could do those checks once the screen is turned on. Uninstalling/changing settings will only help with battery life (percent drain), the temperature is ok. The a520f (and a510f) also has touchboost, temporarily raising the CPU clock when the screen is touched. Might be noticeable with background tasks while using a keyboard.
Thanks friend. Didn't know about "Touchboost", you opened it up for me a bit there.
While the screen is off, It's perfectly fine. Once I take it in my hands, it starts to get warm around the Samsung logo. It's probably screen + apps + nowhere to dissipate heat, but I wasn't noticing it at start. I've only had it for a couple of days now. I don't know about the battery drainage, with a charge lasting me ~40hrs with 7h SOT I wouldn't say it's draining at all - though my screen is at low brightness, 1/4 max.
Just wanted to see what you other guys are getting as I thought it was high. My ambient is around 24-25C all year long. I've seen tests where people weren't getting more than 30C at all, but as you said, it's the ambient that dictates that.
Idk if this is only with mine but sometimes I turn the phone off completely and put it to charge and it happens that it can reach like 35°C without touching it. Now the phone is plugged, I only browse with chrome facebook.. and it is like 37°c. That can happen when it is not plugged too. Using wifi seems to be better though.
I dont think I have an important battery drain because it can last about 6-8h SOT normal usage.
Onr other thing, when I turn on the mobile hotspot, the battery drains way more than usually and heats up too.

I have a brightness problem on my phone s8+ G955F

Healthy days everyone. I am using Hades rom last version first let me give this information. The phone loses its maximum brightness value in movies after a while in games. The problem continues until you start again. Especially when it is attached to the charge, the maximum brightness value drops considerably. Is there a way to turn this off or fix it? It's very annoying. And already turn off oto brightness
