Themes for SMS/text messaging? looking for an older stock android theme - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I am a big fan of all dark theme, I desktop is entirely black, all the buttons are hidden, and the only thing I miss about my Samsung galaxy S3, was the stock SMS/text messenger that came with android 4.2, and I think android 4.3.
I've included an couple of example here. What is the closest theme that I can get to match this theme?
I really can't stand the multicolored lollipop cutesy wusty pink popcorn dancing hippo, Disney happy squirrel themes. I prefer a more commando approach.
Here is the theme I am looking for.
Ideas?

I am wondering if there are any ROM's that will cover some of this. My problem is, I have to get one SMS app, and then add another dialer app, to get the look that I want, and sometimes one extra theme. I'm hoping that a ROM will come up, that will just essentially be like Kit Kat 3.1, in both messaging and dialing departments.
On that subject, does anyone here know better of an android ROM, or overall theme, that looks more like older android, that will handle all of this in a single swoop?
Thanks!

Is there a good alternative for Contacts / Dialer ?

I currently own a ATT S4, it's rooted with Wanam Xposed Framework, Nova launcher, Stock Nexus messaging app, etc... And I must admit I really like this phone a lot, after having an Nexus 4, and Galaxy Nexus before that. The battery life on this S4 is freaking amazing, easily 50% better than my Nexus 4. I get 5h -5.5h On Screen time every day, and I really like the 1080p screen, very beautiful. And this phone is plenty fast for me, no lag with Nova set to "Faster than Light"
TouchWiz is pretty much hidden away with all the other .apk's I have installed. But the one thing I HATE on TW is specifically the Dialer and Contacts. Swiping to make a phone call is ****ing stupid, and not being able to swipe from the contacts to the phone dialer is another mistake.
And pressing the Phone app, or the Contacts app, are the only two apps, that have a slight pause or delay, not really lag, just a pause till it opens up. No other app does that, everything else opens up in a blink of an eye.
But other than that, I do like TW, and the other cool features it has, and I use. But would love to find a stock Nexus Dialer and Contact .apk, but not sure those would ever work on a TW phone ? And I can't flash any zips, due to being on MF3 firmware I can only do .apk's with Root Explorer. Is there something similar to the stock Nexus dialer/contacts on the Play Store ? And something that is not laggy or worse than even the stock TW ? Some of the Play Store might look like a stock Nexus app, but are actually slower, and worse.
I found this app on the Play Store, and it seems very much like a stock nexus dialer, pretty quick, and light
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dexetra.dialer&hl=en
Checked my Greenify settings, this 'dialapp' is running big time in the background, with lots of wake times. Looks I need to delete it now. Dang, can't I just install the stock Nexus dialer from an older 4.2.2 build, and delete the Samsung TW dialer ?
ExDialler is good too.

I tried both apps, Dialerapp and ExDialer, and they were good, but still have TouchWiz running behind them, when pressing to hang up, it shows the TW interface there, or some other areas still show TW. I thought these apps would erase and get rid of TW 100%, guess not.
I suppose I could try to delete all Samsung Phone / Dialer .apk in /system with Root Explorer ? Would love to be able to push a 4.2.2 based CM10.1 phone.apk, but I think that might screw things up ?
I also tried a lot of Dialers some time ago, while I was still on S2. I settled for RocketDial. This app does everything and is incredibly fast. Costs money, but it's worth it in my opinion.
dialer + , has kinda stock android look
Yes, whatever third party dialer you install, the TW will stay there, as it's in the core of the TW framework. I don't think there's a way to completely uninstall it, rather you shouldn't.

Try exdialer and contacts that's what I use and love it. You can change the interface to make it look like how you want. Try it out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modoohut.dialer

Find a guide to try flashing the zip. I think either you would have to change the script of your device and edit it or flash the zip via safestrap. I usually look into the international theme forum they have a bunch of great ports that work for our phone also.

Possible to replace phone and contacts

Hello just wondering if it is possible to replace the phone and contacts with something from stock...
I feel ya, I can't stand the dialer and contacts on TW. Only way at the moment is to install CM12, builds for the different variants can be found here on xda

Why not try "Rocketdial" at the play store.
It's excellent and it's a 3 in 1 app.
It has contacts, dialer and optional full screen caller id all in one app.
It has a whole lot of options too. ( fully compatible on all android phones.
Check it out here:

Have a happy new year!
i am using ExDialer since almost a year now... i find TW dialer app boring...
I find that all these dialer apps simply overlay on top and route to the the TW dialer anyway. I tried a few of them.
I have used rocket dial, exdialer, angel dialer, and some other 2 or three, very disappointed, horrible lags, in some cases, first appears the stock dialer, then the replacement, yes, I think, they are redrawn over the stock one, so, its worst to use them for me
Try touchpal contacts or contacts+. Anyway for me iprefer the default dialer. It has a lot of functions

ROM question, (I think) how can I revert back to classic android theme?

is there a ROM, that will give me that classic minimalist android, kit cat 4.1 I think it is, black simple theme.
The dialer is better, the contacts are better, and the text conversation window is better.
I tried Frankenstein-ing something similar together, using one dialer, another SMS text, and yet another theme, but it's a nightmare, and sometimes perhaps have to pass back through the original app, as in phone calls, in order to work. It's a real headache.
What would the setbacks be, downgrading my firmware, as I did with my old galaxy SIII, to get this minimalist overall theme on the phone?
Here are the themes I want
original classic flavor text theme: https://flic.kr/p/zvMMJC
original classic flavor dialer Theme: https://flic.kr/p/yRnUt9
original classic contacts Theme: https://flic.kr/p/zPjr72
Is there a ROM that will work? Or am I looking at downgrading the firmware?
thanks!
If I'm not mistaken, those are all Samsung stock themes and not stock android themes.

Man does that ever suck.
Thanks.
Not only that, but you can't downgrade past the android version with which the phone shipped....

HTC 10 dark (black) dailer after Nougat update?

My HTC 10 received Nougat OTA update a few days ago and everything is great, no problems at all, it feels even faster and smoother. Some users reported problems with wifi, my connection is now much, much better and faster, on my home network AND at work.
There's just one really small detail that drives me crazy. I have dark theme installed and everything IS dark as it was on MM, except phone dailer. Even dailer itself is dark but when calling it goes white and that wasn't the case in MM, that screen was dark too. Any idea?
I reinstalled the theme, tried other themes and it's all the same.
European (Croatia) unlocked, as it is, not rooted.

Dialler uses a different apk now when in a call (InCallUI.apk), so I guess HTC have to update their theme engine you theme this as well.
Of course, if you're running a custom ROM, then you can use a themed InCallUI.

Thank you for your answer. So, I'll have to wait and deal with it.
I mean, I will not root my phone for just that one reason.

Yes, I have the HTC Bolt, which came with 7.0 Nougat outta the box, and changing dialer color doesn't quite work how its supposed to, so I think HTC haven't quite updated it yet as not many of their devices have nougat yet...
If you happen to use the online theme maker of HTC, then you would know the caller background was default as dark.
It could be the nougat update changed the default setting.
What you can do is to go the online theme maker, build a dark one for yourself to see if it works. It could be that the designer just left the setting as default, which is white (bright).
I love bright ones so all the themes I made are forced into bright caller background.
That change came with nougat and, yes, I did make new theme in theme maker and it's all the same - everything is dark as it should be and as it was in MM except that one (InDail) screen. It looks like change have to be made in Theme maker itself...
I have the same problem. Having created a personal theme in Maker Pro, the In Call screen remains as the default, and hasn't changed with my theme. When previewing the theme on the website, the In Call screen shows correctly with my theme, but it doesn't show on the phone (HTC M9 and HTC 10). If anyone has any updates on this, it would be appreciated.
Thank you OP and others-this too was driving me crazy this weekend along with Google Play services not working. I'm a black dialer person and am surprised HTC doesn't have this as an option out of the box. If I find a solution I will share. I joined xda just to post this-hope I did it right ?
same issue
Yeah I'm having the same problem and I use a custom theme I made myself.
