Now that Galaxy Note 5 is released, simple question: WILL YOU BUY ONE?

Yes, I bought one out right, 64gb, black.
Edit: Will you buy one? If not, why?

Depending on the phone you're coming from but yeah I'm coming from the g4 and it's head over heels better than that device

No, I'm sticking with the Note 4 or moving to LG or Sony. I travel a lot, so upgradable storage and removable battery are must haves for me.
I don't want to rely on cloud storage or power outlets or BULKY external chargers.

I got one. And I love I it, so far.

I see. You should keep your Note 4 and hold up for the note 6 maybe they will add the micro SD and removable battery back (I'm hoping). The Note 4 still a great phone and I personally think nothing worth the upgrade over the Note 4 out there at the moment.
I got the Note5 because I loved the s-pen. I never use micro SD or change the battery.

Got it yesterday morning. So far, love it.

Don't buy one until I get mine first.

Got mine on Monday, been enjoying it all week. 64Gb black. Coming from an LG G2, fantastic upgrade.

Yup it would, but since this was almost free for me I really dont care what it would have cost me off contract.
Moved to AT&T next which saved me $25/month on my bill. The phone costs $28/month. Total cost to me $3 more per month.
Besides the G2 didnt have a removable battery, and didn't have mSD card support, so what exactly would the Note4 offer me that the note 5 doesnt, besides a slower SoC, less RAM, worse display (though its still a good one), worse s-pen, and cheaper feel.

More storage and removable battery. Essential for power users, so maybe you're just not a power user.

Lol I love this argument, i'm not a power user because I use cloud storage and sit at a desk therefore a removable battery means nothing to me.
I have USB OTG if I want removable storage so bad, but I have 1TB of cloud storage so generally I find that pointless, I have 30GB free on my 64GB note5 after installing my apps. I will be fine with the remaining storage considering I am used to 32GB internal from the G2.
You calling me not a power user because you can't fathom how someone else uses a phone without an mSD card or a removable battery is just stupid, those things have no correlation with being a power user. I keep my phone plugged into my computer for literally 80% or more of my day, what would a removable battery do for me? Nothing. mSD storage would allow me to keep 100GB of music with me at all times, sweet too bad I use spotify, or I could keep all those Linux distros on the mSD card, everyone knows power users use Linux for their primary OS so we always keep a distro or two on the phone just in case.
Give me a break, if you think someone not needing an mSD card slot and a removable battery means they aren't a power user then you don't know what a power user does. Those two things have absolutely no impact on what I use my phone for besides maybe not being a mobile data vault, which is a moot point when I have 1TB cloud storage and 75Mbps wifi.

Another dumb ass thread. If you don't want/like the phone don't get it. Nobody wants to keep logging in and seeing this crap. We are looking fwd to root and roms not people complaining about a phone. You don't Iike it don't buy it. Samsung will not lose sleep over you not getting this year's model. Stick to your Note from last year or whatever else you have and let us enjoy our devices. I go through a lot of devices.... Some with swappable battery and expandable storage... Some without. All manage to get me through a day or two and handle all task I do on a day to day basis. The Note 5 is a hell of a device. Awesome build quality, loud speaker, beautiful screen, beautiful camera, very responsive and very good battery life. Once we get root and custom roms more potential will be unlocked.

Really? Note 5 has the best SoC on the market, fastest RAM (LPDDR4) and more RAM (4GB), best display (18-23% brighter than note 4 while using 20% less power), and fastest internal memory (UFS 2.0).
I got the phone for basically free, but hey I guess i'm just "stupid" for getting the current best phone on the market while only spending $50 out of pocket.
I feel really dumb now.

Even with all that RAM Note 5 doesn't store apps in memory.

I bought it and still have my note 4.. Couple of downsides to it but it still outperforms the note 4 on every level.. .
I have a otg dongle for extra memory now that literally takes secs to use. And with Samsung's read write speeds it's more than adequately gets the job done..
But nonetheless I still will keep the 4 in case this thing goes belly up for some reason.

I have gotten so frustrated with the Note 4 that Im going to sell it!

I am so frustrated with the note 4...... The lack of a root at this point is a big part of it.
So, with Samsung cutting out the SD card and removable battery I am thinking of going to another manufacturer.
I think I am going to put this on Swappa with a bunch of accessories and that plus some should be able to get me a new phone.
Its only made worse with the S6 already rooted.......
Sometimes these phones make me want to scream!
They're all just about cutting those things out.

Yea, I know. Im just frustrated... and its time for a device change. Hopefully with this being still within the Samsung warranty period makes its a little easier to sell.

You should also consider changing carriers since Verizon is doing it's best to block root on all their phones. The HTC M9 is still blocked and unable to root.
I cant do that. I just switched from AT&T. I got too much of a sweetheart deal to switch with a plan that I got onto.

Bailed on my N4. It is a great device but a waste without root. Picked up a Nexus from VZW, had it rooted in 5 min when I got home. For what it lacks, being rooted / unlocked makes up for. Best part is Beans just showed up with a rom. I'd never buy another locked down phone again....

For what it's worth, yes. The camera and screen are better on the N4, but not overwhelmingly so. The battery is a struggle though. I used the ultra savings mode a lot. But I've found that with the custom kernels, I manage. One big thing for me was that this phone (N6) is way smoother and more responsive. Having no touchwiz crap really shows a difference..

The nexus 6 is a great phone , only issue i had with it was it seems to struggle if you are in a area that has low signal 2 to 1 bars worth. My note 4 had no issues with low signal but the N6 i had for a week and a half had issue with calls and low signal they world always drop or i was not able to be heard , felt like i was in a Verizon commercial lol can you hear me now hehe stinks the two places i used the phone the most had low signal. battery was what i expected for such a huge screened phone. Just figured i would throw in my short time with the N6 , but it was a great phone and i wish i could have kept it cause the un-rooted note 4 sucks
I'm done buying phones the provider will not let customers root. Whoever it is locking things down, they've gotten the last dollar from me they will ever have. I'll go back to a flip phone or maybe dump them altogether. No freedom, no phone. Verizon, Samsung, whoever. They can't offer enough features to make me wear their chain. I'm generally easy going, but I don't want to be their patsy and herded down their way of thinking about a phone.

I just don't know if I can give up the amazing screen and camera of the note 4 for say a Nexus 6. I've had a couple people willing to trade with me but I just can't pull the trigger.
Camera is the only true hangup for me... screen is meh honestly compared to iPhones majority of the time to be quite honest, and this is coming from a diehard Android fanboy... lol
My brother in-law and sister in-law both switched from their iPhones to a Note 4 because I raved how amazing my Note 3 was... they ended up hating how unstable the Note 4 is(like I am now) and are back to the iPhones, but now they have the 6 Plus and a regular i6 and I have to admit that they look pretty amazing side-by-side to my Note 4.
I between a S6 edge with the extended battery case/external micro sd card slot or an iPhone... with no Micro SD slot..

I could never switch to an iphone. If you upset with the note 4 being "locked down", the iphone is even worse! The note 4 isn't unstable at all. It has a few issues but that's android related and just about every phone running our version of android are experiencing the same issues.
The S6 doesn't have a micro sd slot fyi.

It looks terrific to me, although I was hoping it would have a 7422 instead of a 7420. I never upgrade right away, though. I always wait until the price comes down. By that time, we'll know if it turned out to be a error in judgement on design or a lemon of a phone.

I was pretty much following it for kicks and giggles, just to keep track. I'm only a year into my Note4, which means I won't upgrade till Note 6ish anyway.
Put it in a case and it becomes a sub par Note 4
Note 4 all the way. I'll wait for something better.
If for any reason I would want to get the note 5, it would be because of the wireless charge fast charging. But it looks like sprint might be dropping spark, only LTE?

Same screen resolution, smaller battery with no Micro SD. I don't understand the direction Samsung is headed. Every phone I have ever had people complain about battery life. What's the solution with a internal battery? Constantly tethered to the wall or a huge ridiculous case with an extra external power source built in? Fail Sammy, fail.
I dont understand so many threads about this note 5 in a note 4 forum. I mean, personally im waiting for the new nexus device, im not going to make a thread in the note 4 forum tho.
Should probably take it to the note 5 forum instead.

Yep that's pretty neat for sure.
There are a lot of things I like about the Note 5, and you CAN get a 128 GB model for Sprint, contrary to what many websites are saying. But I'm still not going to upgrade. Maybe when the prices drop, but I'll probably wait to see what the Note 6 is like. I never swap my battery and I don't care about missing the microSD card. I'd rather have the UFS 2.0 storage, so those things aren't holding me back. I'm just happy with my Note 4.
Well.. I like doing a battery pull when things get iffy. As far as having an SD card slot or not is not really a big deal to me. I have a Samsung 32g SD card now that's not even 1/3 full. Between Sirius /XM and Pandora I don't download a lot of music. I use my SD card for pictures and my necessary rooting/modding files. And with having a "cloud" to store stuff and thumb drives and USB cables the storage will still be endless. As with all other tech.. It evolves. My 2 cents..

Note followers never complained about built quality because our phones stay in cases. Galaxy followers wanted a android iphone so samsung gave it to them . But why didn't they just have a regular version with sd and removable battery and one with a higher built quality and they could have ditched the s6 plus idea until the s7 plus . That would of worked 4 months ago. Owell I'll get the s6 plus and if i don't like it wife might have a new phone. Note 5 don't do nothing for me atleast the s6plus bring something different. I'll see what apple do before i dive in they might surprise me but every year a disappointment.

Top 5 MAJOR Flaws Of The Galaxy Note 5!

I have to say that I was pretty hyped about this device while watching the unpacked event. Then again I am always stoked when new devices are announced and released I am just a tech nerd I guess. I am not hating on this device. In fact I have already pre-ordered mine, and at full price so I can keep my Verizon unlimited data however there are several flaws present in this device. These flaws are especially true if you are upgrading from a device like the Galaxy S5 or Note 4.
What do you guys think? Are these flaws enough to keep you away from the Note 5? I mean it still has plenty going for it. Revamped premium design, great screen, great camera, SPEN, Samsung Pay, wireless fast charging and the list goes on and on.
Coming from an LG G2, it's a clear upgrade across the board. I dont even fill up my current 32GB so the 64GB note 5 I have preordered should be more than enough space.
Im upgrading from my 64 GB S6 Edge to the Note 5 just because I like to be on the cutting edge as for CPU and SOC and Camera.
I find it very very very funny that allot of my co workers and friends are UPGRADING to the Note 4 or Note 4 Edge even though the Note 5 is coming out in a couple days lol.
Even though I like Note 5 for the Camera and CPU and GPU and the Glass on Glass construction, I have to admit, Samsung Failed.......
It is a great video and those are not a deterrence to me coming from a S4. Hopefully I will get to see his next video on why to get the Note 5. At this point I might consider the Note 4 just to save money. Either one is a big upgrade for me.
Why is everyone complaining. The note 5 is not an upgrade. They literally took the note 4 and rewrapped it.

Honestly. People say that a lot..but it's wrong. It has most of the Note features that were on the 3 and 4, but the software is completely different. It's more like the s6.
Hardware is completely different too. It has the s6 hardware with more ram. I'm not sure why people think it's just a note 4 in a new body. It's far from that.
Not saying there isn't a level of disappointment. .there definitely is, only for different reasons. If I was coming from the Note 4 straight to the 5 without a 4 month pit stop on the s6, I'd be stoked. Problem is, I have the s6 and this is basically that with the spen features added. The Note line used to be a bigger upgrade over the previous S version. This year it's not.
Let me get this straight. Rootjunky does a 4 minute video of what he believes are flaws for the Note 5 and then pre-orders one anyway?

That's what you call a classic sheep! It's quite pathetic really.
Maybe the trend has changed and the Galaxy S series is the phone to get the newest changes first. Seems to me with the S6 Samsung threw it against the wall and it stuck. It sold lots of phones and maybe for the more mainstream users the Note 5 will sell a ton. I think Samsung Note line was getting stale and needed an update. Heck if Samsung wasn't trying all this weird stuff with devices who knows where the smartphone market would be.

I am hardly a sheep. Vote with your wallet and Samsung will get the message. The way I see it the new S6 design sold well so they figured they could capitalize on it with the Note 5. If they don't sell many the Note 6 may be different. If you don't like it buy another device this round. Seems that SD card slots and spare batteries are gonna be a thing of the past whether we like it or not.
By the way no disrespect to Rootjunky. He is great for the community but at this point everything is speculation.

As far as we know, the S6 doesn't meet the expectations of Samsung in terms of sales.
I think, the Note 5 we are seeing is simply the result of decisions take a moment ago , regardless of the sales of S6.
I don't think there was anyway Samsung was going to keep increasing market share in the Android world. Probably why they have toyed around with Tizen. The flood of cheap phones from so many manufacturers was bound to happen with an open ecosystem. I think they figured that out a long time ago. They want to be the premium android manufacturer and not play in the low price war. They were probably smart and would have lost more market share if they had kept producing plastic, me too kind of devices. That's also the same reason they've always pushed all their special features (or bloat) Try to get you locked into something like Apple does. It just doesn't work unless the operating system is locked down and you control it.

DroidModderX did the video LOL and yes I did pre-order the device and it arrives Tuesday. I think this device will be great, but i believe it is my job to weigh the pros and the cons of these devices.
I only have 3 major flaws but they are all deal breakers:
-no IR
-no 128GB
-Not available in the Netherlands
Other disappointments:
-small and non removable battery
-fragile build materials
-same processor as s6
-same camera as s6
The 2 main flaws I can think of, are the lack of mircoSD card and the IR blaster.

well the MicroSD is just the trade off for going with UFS 2.0. The memory controller doesn't natively support SDcards, so in order to have an SD card slot the phone would have to use eMMC 5.0/5.1 memory controller (which also supports SDcards), or add in a 2nd memory controller just to control the microSD slot. Which is a lot of PCB and headache just for a microSD slot, and i'm not sure if the Exynos 7420 would even allow you to use 2 different memory controllers at once, so i'm not even sure if you COULD just throw in another memory controller, even if you found space for it.
Basically, UFS 2.0 as the memory controller currently stands just doesn't support microSD, the next iteration of the UFS controller could potentially add microsd support, but I wouldnt count on it either.
As for the IR blaster, likely a space issue, but only samsung would know on that one.

I'm considering either this or the Galaxy Note 5 (although not out yet where I from) but favour the Note 4 because of the SD card slot. How does the screen compare to the Note 5? I usually keep the same phone for 2+ years minimum. Is the 64 bit processor a big deal?

While I can only speak of myself, I repurchased a note 4 for a few reasons. I had a s6 for a few months and it was ok. I kept missing features from the note series and also considered waiting till the note 5 came to Europe. However, I decided that I really needed a device with a removable battery and the sd card slot is a huge help. Battery life is a high priority for me and the note 4 can deliver that, it has fast charging, can add wireless and most of all, I can carry an extra battery.
The 64bit SOC isnt the standard yet, so its not a big deal atleast for another few years.
I want to know this too. I'm on the Note 3 and debating whether I should get the Note 4 or wait for the Note 6?
I saw a video that said the Note 4 has slow and unreliable GPS issues?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU85r3blu9c
Does it have any other problems?
I was in the same dilemma either to jump from a note 3 to a note 4 or 5 but ended up going to the note 4 for the convenient of the replacement battery and sd card.
IMO while holding the Note 5... People were saying it felt premium but to me it felt cheap. The note 4 felt more premium with the faux leather. On day to day usage I don't think you'll see much difference unless you're into heavy gaming.
Note 5 has not got lag at all and you would feel the screen improvement too. Note 5 is better from note 4 in global.
BUT someone who's got Note 4 can be disappointed in many ways.
Just for comparison you can sell N4 for 330 and buy new N5 for 450 in England which is not a big deal for a new NOTE
My opinion: I'll stay with my N4

On both note 4's that I have owned, I never had a GPS issue. Both were N910F

I felt the Note 5 at the AT&T store at the mall and it felt premium to me. I like the camera and new fingerprint sensor too. Everything else seemed the same.
But, I need upgradable storage and removable battery. Those are deal breakers for me. I just bought new batteries for my almost 3yr old Note 3 and it feels like new again! I love it when my friends all have bulky external chargers shackled to their phones for hours waiting for a recharge when all I have to do is swap a battery and <30 secs later, I have 100% again.
For me, it's gonna be either Note 4 or Note 6. And if Samsung doesn't bring back microSD and removable battery, then I'm leaving for another brand.
It's ironic that Samsung took out the microSD when I read that Marshmallow has native support for it now. I'm not a big fan of the cloud. It makes you depend on a carrier's strong signal, which is hit and miss depending on where in the country or world you are. And all the carriers are desperately trying to kick off all their unlimited data people. It wouldn't surprise me if Samsung and the carriers had some under the table deal to drop the microSD card feature.

Yeah I agree. I'm not optimistic that Samsung will bring the MicroSD card slot back. It seems like it's the new trend going forward

That's why I chose the note 4 because of those deal breaker. TBH, phones have gotten so good in the past couple of years that we're merely just buying aesthetic of the phone instead of functionality when we're upgrading. If Samsung had the same support as Apple with their upgrade Operating System, I don't think a lot of people would be upgrading beside Tech Heads who needs the latest and greatest phone at the time.
I'm staying with my 4.
Got a note 5 on my hands at the store. It really feels better and the s pen is much better. But aside that, note 4 wins on the SD card slot that I swap a lot. I'll wait for the note 6 or some other thing.
As the other friend said. Phones got so much better in the last couple years that there is not much reasons for considering an yearly upgrade.

For me, at least removable battery is enough & Note 4 can do that.
For storage, at least OTG USB flash drive is accessible, but microSD is of course better.
I hope Note 6 or 7 bring back at least removable battery.
For now Note 4 is worth buying/keeping instead of Note 5.
Compare all the features side by side and considering the price difference I would say note 4 is still a better option that of course if you don't need fingerprint scanner. All the features of the note 5 are already available through custom ROM s and developers are hard at work to improve them.

Is the Note 4 the last great phone?

Ok, we all know that the Note 7 is coming out in a few days but does anyone actually have any desire to upgrade? I've owned my note 4 for over a year and a half and gone through several ROMs and now I've settled with tx's stock LP OK1 ROM. After debloating and applying some minor tweaks my phone is running great. Everything works. The IR blaster is an awesome tool. I use it to to control my TV's, fios boxes, AC's, etc. The FM radio is great and can use it to listen to my radio stations. I love having the removable battery and when my battery starts loosing juice I'll buy a new one. My phone is fast and does just about anything I need it to. My phone is always in a case with a screen protector, so there are no scratches on it and the screen is perfect.
Now that it's just about 2 years old does anyone have any real desire to upgrade, if your phone is working properly? To me it seems like the missing features such as the IR Blaster, FM radio and removable battery in the Note 7 are a deal breaker. I'm sure it will be a handsome and lightening fast phone. Yeah it will beat out my note 4 on every benchmark but is it worth the $700+ upgrade? I just don't see any reason to upgrade.
Please share your thoughts.

Not worth the upgrade in my opinion. Galaxy note 4 + 10000mAH battery is life
I got an AT&T Note 4, but due to locked bootloader, I sold it without even using it. Upgraded to LG G4, sold it due to bugs. Nexus 6P is nice, but I always found myself missing my Note 3 and the S-Pen, backup batteries, and SD cards.
So I sold the Nexus 6P and now I bought myself a Note 4 with unlocked bootloader and I'm all set for the long term with my Note 4. When I researched Note 5 and 7, I totally lost interest at the non-removable battery part. They should have renamed the Note series to Samsung Galaxy GNote 5 and GNote 7 (Gimped Note).
Is the Note 4 the last great phone? For me, yes.
Hard to justify going to a Note 7. It's just not that impressive. Only thing I wish would be better on the note 4 is the camera. The S7 camera is pretty impressive and fast.
I can let most things slide, or grow to love other features, it's just hard without the IR blaster... Not sure why Samsung thought it was a great idea to remove it from their phones. I mean it's not like they make home theater equipment.... So, yeah, it sucks as we evolve in some places we simultaneously devolve in others.
Looks like I'm not alone in my thoughts. Hopefully more of us are sticking with our Note 4's. I just hope the ROM community for it stays strong. From what I've heard its gonna be locked bootloaders from now on.

The Note 7 does sound very appealing, it has specs you can't ignore, it's defiantly better than the Note 5(which was a step backwards in my eyes, not even an sd card).
But i would never spend 700 on it to upgrade from a note 4. Maybe if I had a crappy phone, I would. Especially if they keep locked bootloader. These companies need to quit with this locked bootloader s#*t.
The note 4 is one of the best phones ever. It can still stand up to most new phones out there. Unlocked, replacable battery, sd card, ir port. Lots of development for it, need i say more.
With that being said, I'll be keeping my note 4 for a long while.

Yup I agree. Once I heard the specs about the note 5 I completely lost interest. The note 7 does have some nice specs and the added SD Card support is great but still, too many essentials are missing. And most importantly the locked bootloader. No chance I'm going to buy a phone that is locked down. Hopefully nothing happens to my note 4 for the next few years.

The NextRadio app lets you do this. Sprint has unlocked the FM Radio in their phones for quite some time now.
I got my Note 4 last July. By that time, it had already been out for a while, but I had an early upgrade opportunity and made the jump from the Galaxy S5 I had gotten just 11 months earlier.
At the time, I was looking at either the Nexus 6 or the Note 4. Ultimately, the Note 4 won because of a removable battery and the option to add a micro SD card for extra storage. The phone still works great, and while I'm still about a year out from my upgrade point, I'm hoping there will be better options by that time.

[/COLOR]Locked bootloader? No thank you.
Only way to fully protect yourself from malvertising 0 day exploits is full phone adblock and AdAway needs root.
My Note 4 has been great, with Anker battery and wireless chargers everywhere never running out of juice.
The Note 7 is pretty disappointing to say the least. Really not much different than an S7 Edge. Sammy really dropped the ball on that one.
Keeping mine too. I'm done with Samsung. Time to move on to someone else
The main appeal to me is the water resistance but not knowing if the battery will die fairly rapidly like the note 4 battery pretty much counters that with it being not removable. Ill probably wait and see if the next nexus iteration has water resistance.

Note 7 was meant to be disappointing. You gotta remember, the note series is intended for business users who have a need for a stylus. It was never going to have 6GB of RAM or the newest snapdragon. If we all expected that then we don't know why the S7 exists. It is the flagship phone from Samsung, not the Note. The people on XDA who root their notes pales in comparison to the actual number of note users who do not. Samsung is like any other company. IPhone has 1 flagship. That's what samsung wants

The note 7 is still an awesome phone. Better specs than the note 4. I still don't mind using the note 4 and will continue to do so. I wanted to upgrade to the newest note but if the bootloader is locked and no possibility of root it's a no go for me.

the Note 5 disappointed me but the Note 7 has everything i want except for an IR blaster.
If you don't think the Note 7 is an upgrade, you must not have played with it in real life. The phone is gorgeous especially the screen. The only thing I will miss is the IR blaster but oh well. Now to find where to sell my Note 4 for the highest price....
