Apps safe to uninstall from Z3 - Xperia Z3 General

Hi all. I couldn't find a thread about this for the Z3 and now many more of us have root (thanks to giefroot) I thought I'd start one.
These are apps that come with the stock Z3 rom and can be uninstalled with no ill-effects. I used Titanium Backup to remove these having backed them up first.

it is NOT safe to delete the Sony Album application!
I ran into issues with camera and whatsapp. Even worse is, that I somehow can't restore it. Neither with Titanium nor with system app remover.
thanks for the list anyway.

What problems did you experience? I've had no issues with either of those.

U probably need another Gallery APP like quickpic. I habe no issues either

If u remove Album app means simply install Quick Pick. Without a gallery app u will face problems for sure..

Uninstalled even Walkman?

sorry for late reply, just came back from snowboarding.
First, whatsapp had some proplems sharing pictures. Using google pictures solved that. Still, the camera app link to previously taken photos does not work. If I tap on it nothing happens. I can access the photos in google pictures app, though.

I deleted a few 100mbs and the only issue I face is an empty section in the selection tab that pops up sometimes. But it appeared after changing the bootanimation so its probably related to that. I will check after I complete the test cycle. An complete list would be nice. Maybe we can build something like that.

Just to note: if you uninstalling Xperia live wallpapers app, its not only remove live wallpapers and its app, you also lose functionality of locked screen wallpaper( you just cant set one), not a big deal but still bothered me

Album + Movie Creator
I've read that removing Sony's Album application will cause a lot of issues with camera functionality and other applications. Is this simply because people are neglecting to install an alternative gallery application, like QuickPic? Or are there still lingering issues with removing Sony's Album application, such as what @kuzcoTheGreat mentions with the Camera application's previous pictures link?
It's also referenced at this blog (lockone[dot]wordpress[dot]com/2014/11/24/xperia-z3-compact-disabling-movie-creator-will-kill-your-time-shift-video-camera-mode/ - can't link due to ten posts rule) that removing Movie Creator will kill the timeshift feature for videos. Can anyone else confirm this?

Just reinstall it from here via APK
I initially deleted it to use quickpic, but what I didn't like was the fact that if I wanted to reach my photos from the camera via the quick button in the corner, it wouldn't tie me to another photo viewing app... so I reinstalled it using the link above and it works ok.

@apSlain - see my above post. Try it yourself. Feel free to let us know. But I didn't see any issues w/ album deleted. You can do same thing with the Movie app - dl APK and install.

thanks for the link. Sadly, the apk does not work for me. Seems that I haven't deleted the app properly. Well, I can live with the misssing camera-app-link. So it is fine

So...I realized that while the APK works, the app deletes itself every time I reboot... and I hate not having the camera-to-album link working, so I just flashed the firmware again, and everything is working smoothly.
First of all, how were you able to delete the album app in the 1st place since you can only do so with root. In which case I assume you know a bit about what you're doing, so just do the same thing. I'm not sure why you'd have an issue, but in case you need some guidance...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58515452&postcount=915
Follow step 1, 2, skip 3, and do 4 BUT for .77 FW, NOT .93 FM
NOTE:
DO NOT select to wipe Data. This will make sure to keep your phone exactly in the state that it was when you began this process, except you'll have all the main apps you deleted that you didn't want, installed again, including album, which you want back.
IF:
You are experiencing issues with stupid error messages, you just need to reset some things, just follow steps 4, 5, and 6 here and you're good to go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/...-data-wipe-t3016521/post58515776#post58515776
If you do all of that, I'm quite sure it'll work, and in this whole process you're preserving locked BL, and not doing anything.
If you're rooted... then disregard what I just said, and simply flash a pre-rooted FW, and you're set.

I gave it a shot, and yep, I can confirm that the Camera link to previously taken pictures is broken and timeshift video is broken. I'd assume that most other "creative" video functions would be broken with the removal of Movie Creator, too.
For these two applications, I'd probably say keep Movie Creator if you like having the extra video editing functions on the phone, and keep Album if you really want the previously-taken-photos link to be active. Maybe someone will be able to find a way to force-link a new application to that Camera function? :fingers-crossed:

Debloat these apps will gain speed or Battery Life?
Enviado desde mi D6653 mediante Tapatalk

Both.
The 2nd post is better.
Be sure to remove the .odex files too.

jup, will do, if I get my lazy ass to do the work As for right now, I can live with the missing link in camera app.
Thanks for all the advice!

@kuzcoTheGreat. Lol. It prob took more to write my explanation than to reflash your pre rooted fw.

[Q] [EC09] Debinged issues

so i installed the eco9 dibinged over the ec09 stock deodexed. all fine and dandy except if i try to play a vimeo video from a FB post or a tweet the browser force closes and when updating the service using *22899 soon as it is done the phone process force closes. I have tryed redownloading and installing the ec09 debinged and if i load the ec09 stock deodexed everything works fine. i just hate bing and all the bloat on there. any ideas what to try?

Pay for Root Explorer from the market. Then debloat and debing your phone manually. I can show you how if you buy Root Explorer.
Yea I have root explorer what do I need to do?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA
In Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app. In this folder you will see a list of all the pre-loaded apps which were installed from the ROM you flashed. To debing, simply find the bing.apk and delete it (or move it to your sdcard if you want a backup). You can perform this same action with all apps installed on your phone. At first, start small. Start with apps you can easily identify by the name or icon. Also, if an .apk file has a cooresponding .odex file, move/delete that as well. You may get constant force closes after removing an app if it is running at the time you removed it. Simply reboot your phone.
WARNING: Removing necessary system apps could cause serious problems. So, start small. If you have a question as to if you can remove a particular app or not, ask in this thread and I'll let you know.
Awesome thank you!!! So far so good.

Your son? Starting him off a little young, ain't ya? It's gonna depend on what you want it to do. If it won't be making calls, then dialer tab, dialer storage, and contacts can all go., no internet, the radio can go. So on and so forth. What you gonna give him the ability to do? Then we can tell ta.

I've tried to do this, and everytime I get an error message telling me I can't move or delete because the file is read only.

Wouldn't using Titanium Backup to uninstall the apps accomplish the same thing as using Root Explorer? Plus no FC's!

OK, I removed a boatload of bloatware using Root Explorer.
Still have a couple issues;
Even though I removed the .apk and corresponding .odex files, restarted phone, I still have these in apps, and all work when opened;
Facebook
IM
Verizon video
VCast tones
And, even though the Bing icon is out of apps, it still opens Bing Search with a long press on the search icon on phone.
Any thoughts on how to get rid of these?
I've went all thru Root explorer and can't find these files anywhere, but they're still on the phone.
Thanks

This is what I did.

I got my SGT2_7 P3113UEALD3 a few days ago and used it stock no root no flashing other ROM on it just to see how it performs. It was a bit slow. Then I rooted installed TiBu and started freezing apps didn't delete any and now it runs fast and smooth. These are the apps I froze.

When you freeze the apps it means you disable it right? since some of the apps are essential like the camera, or accessing google+

Yes freezing disables it (basically blocks it from doing anything) in fact at the moment they are just taking up space, but didn't want to uninstall or delete anything until I tested the tab for a week see how it handles and if there are any arising problems because of them being frozen.
As I mentioned I use -Camera ICS- so I will be deleting the Camera app that came with the tab. Also what ever app you don't use I recommend freezing or deleting. Freezing apps you don't use on daily basis and just deleting the ones you don't use at all

I did something similar with my 3113 last night. I used a list that I found in another thread though that's in xls format.
I have a question though. I installed Steam through the play store. At login, all I get is a 2 tone gray / black screen. Is anyone aware of any of these apps possibly having an effect on the steam app or connectivity? I googled the problem, and I'm not the only person to have this happen. However, it wasn't just with this tab and the problem seems rare.

That script works really well, it is also why i'm not moving past 4.1.2, it doesn't work on versions beyond that, because of the storage structure( multi-user ability maybe?), or something.
I agree with the op. Even on my favorite ROMs, which have less bloat than stock, I need to freeze apps in order to free up ram.

List of things that can be frozen / uninstalled

I know alot of phone sections have a list of these, being we dont have ROM's readily available to us yet, it would probably be a good idea to compile a list of things that can safely be frozen / uninstalled from titanium backup, not just including the regular bloat, i have just started messing around with mine, so if anyone would like to share i will add them to a list in the OP.

[Q] Removable Apps List [De-bloating Stock & ROMs]

I'm curious if anyone has a list of removable apps for the stock Defy as well as lists for Quarx's CM10 roms etc. I've found a few but were either very old or sem-related roms and releases.
From what I gathered most of the bloat is gone in Roms like Quarx's CM10. Of course not all of the included services and apps will be used by the user, for example, I don't use bluetooth, nor do I use the FM Radio etc. Most of these basic apps with layman-like labeling I've uninstalled but some are a little more like: "Download Manager" or "DRM Protected Content Storage."
I'm curious to hear if anyone has a more conclusive list than my clusterf-- of pieces.
Cheers.
I am also interested in this, I would uninstall stock messages, and browser, music player, video player... but will the phone stay completely functional?

If I can retrace some of my searches I can offer a few of the old lists. Unfortunately I never made a comprehensive one for myself and the Defy. I only just started to label my apps in Titanium Backup when I realized
For example much of the general stock apps I know can be uninstalled, naturally if you want music to play but don't have a music player, you may want to stick with stock until you find an music app which you like (I run Subsonic and have been checking up on XenoAmp's development... I just love the ideas behind it).
I've found it never hurts to back up and do a test run of the app frozen before you remove it. Here's some of the stock Apps I've removed/Frozen(Titanium Backup) without a hitch:

Oh, absolutely. I'd just love to hear what else I can squeeze out. I don't use a lot of basic apps and services even on the debloated CM ROMs. Since it's so easy to overload the Defy with too many things running I'd rather keep everything minimal.
Since no one has a defy-specific list maybe I'll update this one in a day or two.

Official KitKat Bloatware Removal Thread

Hi All,
Now that most people have installed the OTA KitKat and knowing that this will be the last update Motorola makes for our phones, I thought it would be a good idea to make a collection of all the system bloatware that came with the OTA that is able to be removed safely without affecting the performance or running of the phone (either frozen or deleted for those of us lucky enough to be unlocked and already rooted). Lord knows I have been waiting a long long time to delete these apps and not just have them frozen! I'll keep a running list in the second post, hopefully in alphabetical order, as people post up any that I have forgotten about or didn't think of.
Again, this is just a list of everything that is safe to remove if people don't use the apps / functions, not necessarily things that have to be removed.
...there's nothing like freeing up memory and RAM 8)

Like I said, they are removable but some people will want to keep them. Personally I keep the YouTube, but use a scientific calculator app and don't use live wallpaper.
Ah I see, I didn't think those were removable. I thought they were system apps.
You're right, they are system apps, but can be frozen and for those of us lucky enough to be unlocked and rooted on KK they can be deleted (using TiBu or some other method). Everything listed above is considered a "system app". But, the list is not comprehensive.
That's why I was looking for input for some of the more not-as-obviously-named removable apps. I know there was a list floating around somewhere, I had a bunch of stuff frozen from that list whilst on JB. But now that our phones are not going to be updated any further (and if there is a surprise update that comes to us, we can put the phones back to "stock" using SamuriHL's RSD Lite scripts), I'd like to delete them permanently.
Just an update - I was able to safely remove the all-important NFL Mobile app without hardbricking
Guys, I'm sorry to crash this thread, I'm locked and on 9.18.64. Since your all rooted and unlocked, I was wondering if anyone of you would be willing to give SamuriHl a freshly installed and rooted system dump using the safestrap method he outlines in the KitKat root tracking thread? I'd like to be a guinea pig for this one chance root experiment. That's the only missing piece ATM.

Freeze bloatware
K, I was able to freeze the bloatware using my unrooted 4.4.2.
I went into each apps settings (long press the icon, app info). Then I cleared the "Show notifications" check, Force stop, then Disable. After that the offending apps weren't showing up under the app screen.
If you go to Play store, you'll find them listed as "Disabled".
Hope this helps some, and keep up the good fight for Root access with this update.

Sigh... Please don't spam this thread with posts about root on stock KK. If you don't have it by now, get used to not having it on this phone EVER.
I have removed and disabled the google search app without any negative issues to the rom.
I don't use it as I find myself using my personal browser more than the useless google app. Plus no google now push. However, it does remove the search bar, but doesn't break the roms ability to search from an up swipe from the dock using a browser with search functions, or another search app.
You can also freeze google maps along with its companion app without issue.
You should also consider putting a list of apps not to mess with this time around. This is because a few system apps have become more vital in the rom.
For instance, Google Play Services was able to be disabled and removed without reinstalling automatically in Jelly Bean, but it can no longer be frozen or deleted as it will seriously mess up the google play store with it's recent update in kitkat.

Haha. How do you like your crow prepared? Despite the fact that root and unlock is now available again for a short time, anyway, I think he was showing how there is some freeze ability without root with this update.
With that said, I can't find acoustic warning in tibu, is it now called something else? I can't stand the auto volume drop when I hook to my truck radio.
Update: nvm. Its no longer standalone. Its in android os. You have to use xposed to disable it.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was removing Google search that did the trick. That's when mine disappeared anyway. I rarely use the option so it didn't bother me too much. If you haven't uninstalled Google search, then you should just be able to verify Google voice typing is enabled. If that doesn't do it, you might also have to long press the button to the left of the space bar and assign the mic to that key.
