Here is why lollipop is delayed for the note4 - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

Here's why 5.0 is delayed

Man when Samsung shoots itself in the foot it really makes sure to use an AK47 and shoot the crap out of it.

So you are saying the next build will be ANK47.

And remember...that is just the international version...US Carriers will still be weeks or more behind that release.

assuming the person who wrote that article even knows what he is talking about; I didn't see any mention of an "official Samsung announcement"..

Not true already been comfirm by sources that this is incorrect infor, they stated that oculo does not get to modify the kernel let alone deleyed an updat. Also mant samsung reps stated we dhould receive lollipop this week.. multiple reps. Do thats a better jope.

O welll. Done waiting for It anyways. I'm rooting my device as soon as I can. Screw you lollipop. I would rather have my gear vr function properly than to have 5.0

Well I dont know about you peeps but I am actually buying the Oculus, so this delay doesnt quiet bother me, especially considering cm12 is running pretty well.

This delay has nothing to do with oculus why dont you guys do research before posting. Just another thread to get people the wrong idea to their heads..

Wow the craziness in this thread runs deep
Actually one of the head guys over at Oculus said on Twitter that this isn't true and they don't have the update and are not the cause of any "delays"

Your sarcasm o meter must need calibration.

Believe it or not, not everything on the internet is fact, regardless of the blog that you read.

Never said i knew why it was delayed but i said nor Cuz of this vr shii.... here is your proof since you couldn't do a search, you think Samsung would let some one with no experience with cellphone tweak their kernal?..

Who cares. It not delayed it going as planed.
BAD ASS NOTE 4 + BAD ASS GEAR S

agreed; Samsung never gave a specific date that they guaranteed this would be released to any of the US carriers..
reading/believe any thing on the internet just leads to false hope and disappointment, so my advice it to pay ZERO attention to anything you read about it on the internet, and if you want Lollipop so badly, there are several nice AOSP roms in the forums that will satisfy that craving for now.

You know, I bet this VR thing isn't even going to be a big seller, but because of it, we got stuck waiting for this update. Go figure..........

I was wrong. See that was hard.
Curious though as to why a site like sammobile would report that. So I'll go back to my original theory. 5.0 is ready and is in the hands of carriers who ate busy mucking it up.

Wasn't he supposed to make some kind of announcement on Monday according to his thread? Thought something was in the works and was hoping for more since the other thread got closed.

Just hoping he didn't get banned from posting since the thread got closed by a Senior moderator. Thats all, I'm not impatient, but really excited to hear what he has to say.
All threads in all forums (not just Epic's) by John were locked by 'upper management' so to speak with XDA, so I'm guessing they didn't like the initial approach of things for whatever reason. I PM'ed him earlier today myself and asked about it for curiosity's sake and he said 'we' were in talks with XDA and he hoped to be able to post some details again soon in a new thread. Without being privy to the particulars of all that, my guess is that they'd prefer him be isolated to some higher level 'general' XDA forum and all interaction/feedback occur in one central thread than have a separate thread with every device of theirs. But that's purely a guess on my part.

His last activity was 6:49 today, so I doubt he is gonna make any post regarding what he promised.
He's got 4 hours until its no longer Monday. He is in Texas, so its around 8PM there now. I sure hope "politics" doesn't get in the way of him making his announcement or whatever.
Did anyone really think that this was going to turn into something great? I mean really? Samsungs track record for putting customers first has been proven time and time again, long before the galaxy line and long before cell phones. Not only that, look at XDA from the eyes and view of a large corporation such as Samsung... not just from the view of a dev, themer, consumer. If you've ever worked for a larger corporation/company who's main priority is profit and remaiming current and ahead of the competition you probably understand. One main priority is keeping products and control over those products within your reach, not within the reach of the consumer.

Sounds like a sucker move to me. They say it wont happen again to suck you into buying a a new phone with the same support, only to drop support for the last line of devices. Not buying it Mr Samsung.
As soon as another competitor has a device that has even within reasonable specs at the same time of launch, they are gonna notice why their failure has come to a reality with their next device release.
Lol.
Yano, the cynic in me, as I'm sure is true with some other people, (and I hope its not lost on those people either) believes his lack of a post today is intentional. Remember, he is a social media "analyst". Looking for what type of reactions he would get for breaking such a small "promise" sounds like a pretty good barometer to gauge just how accurate the "mass feelings of resentment" for samsung for not getting us an update sooner is.
Do believe he's the real deal? Yes, and I'm confident he will post with his details later. But I'm pretty sure he's holding off just to watch us, and see how much we hold people to verbal commitments.

hopefully samsung won't control the development otherwise devices might not receive updates anymore
So is this good or bad for us? I dont think i would be able to live with out any more updates for my phone running cyanogenmod.
Could a thread title possibly be more misleading??? I'm kinda scratching my head at some of these replies after reading the article. Nobody bought CM! The CM dev was hired on at Samsung!
Well, considering Cyanogen is the developer's nickname and CyanogenMod is the ROM he's developed, what's wrong with the title?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
If this is true, and Steve continues to work on his "side project" after Samsung forbids him to do so, he could find himself facing an onerous lawsuit from his employer.
It is known as a form of "poison pill". A company hires someone who can or does make a dent into their profits. After a while, they "discover" his work and forbid him to work on it ever again. He continues to work on it and the employer sues, claiming millions in lost revenue. At best, he is out hundreds of thousands before he settles out of court.
From someone who has seen this scenario played out more than once...
Edited title of this thread due to confusion.
Cyanogen = Developer of CyanogenMod
CyanogenMOD = ROM that was developed by Cyanogen
Samsung hires Cyanogen. The CM ROM won't be affected, since it is a side project of his. He is currently employed, and developing his ROM isn't his full time job (although developing constantly, you could make a case for it being a full time job!). CM the ROM won't be affected by this. Updates will continue as always, and Samsung has nothing to do with the CM ROM.
The CM Team was given a Samsung phone a while back and told to "get CM7 running on it", which was pretty cool on Samsung's part. I am sure they are interested in the ROM, since it is great, and updates are frequent to address issues that arise. BUT Samsung does not own the CM ROM, they've merely hired the ROM's creator, Cyanogen.
I think this is a huge leap forward for both samsung and the CM7 community.
Sent from my 2.3.5 Incredible Obsession
the way i see it, win win
Samsung got another dev to work on their android lineup
Cyanogen got a new job because he has a rom for...countless devices (most of which have been EOL'd by now, namely the OG droid and Droid Incredible) on his resume.
this will not effect cm7, at all, he will continue to operate it as a side-project, samsung did this because they want to keep up with Sense and MotorBlur. (touchwiz has room for major improovements too)

That's kinda like saying I bought General Motors because I bought a Chevy Cobalt. "Hires" makes more sense because you hire men and buy slaves. Sorry... It's not just you. I think the title in the article is ridiculous too. You just passed it along, really. THEY should know better, but this is the problem with amateur journalism that lacks any sort of valid editorial process.
I doubt this will mean any kind of merge though, for those wondering. I see lots of confidentiality agreements in this man's future, and possibly having to divorce himself from the CM project to some degree to avoid questions of intellectual property ownership. Just my thought....

I have no idea about the validity of this. I ordered the very phone that this review is for. Any thoughts?

That review is not correct.
I just received that exact phone last week, from Amazon. Each Galaxy Note has a region code to indicate where it came from (Mine was from the UAE). This code can be changed to any region you want. This will allow for a stock upgrade to ICS, when it comes out.
Also, just like the previous poster said, you can root and put any rom you want on your Note.
I am running the stock ICS beta, from January. For me, it is awesome. I am running at 213 DPI which gives me the tablet mode look.

So you neither discredit nor credit what is posted on xda and Amazon reviews nor do you place credibility on the opinions or facts of those places above what you personally believe which is based off the things you read which may or may not have any significant validity as to its claims, which is still eclipsed by the fact that you take everything with "a grain of salt" that is on the internet, which is the place you have come to with a question seeking an answer.
I think you should meet with an authority figure who you can't discredit, in person (to eliminate the internet factor), so you can get the facts.
I know the perfect person, he can be found in a mirror.
P.S. stay free
It'll get updated to ICS. Don't worry. But it will be layered with TouchWiz. In this year, Samsung will not be stupid enough to cut the cord on a 3 month old device. That would be pure suicide. The PR nightmare.
Basically true. My conclusions is derived from all the information I've gathered with consideration of credibility of the various sources.

Samsung using XDA users as Beta testers, What do you say?

Hi fellow XDA users and friends,
There have been alot of OTA leaks for JB in last few days. One thing that you might have noticed was that the Leak happened almost the same day when the FW was built. I mean if it was built on 21st Aug it was leaked on the same day. This might be coincidence but who knows.
If that was too easy to leak by Adam/Sammobile/farhyaab/samupdates then did Samsung manage to keep everything about S3 secret till launch date. No FW was leaked until the release date.
Now LH4(Build Date 14Aug) leaked and we downloaded, installed and reported bugs. Those bugs were fixed mostly in LH6(Build Date 21Aug) and there were others that popped up. Now some of those are still there in LH7 which will be fixed in LH8 and the probably Samsung will officiall release LH9 or LHB OTA.
So the point is, Google releasing Android updates quickly results in burden on manufacturers like Samsung who have very less time to implement these updates and then test it and then release to masses.
We around 2000 people on XDA update our devices report bugs and Samsung releases it's updates successfully. Now as we are working indirectly for Samsung, it should at least remove the clause of "Voiding Warranty" in case we flash the custom firmwares..
Your opinion??
I see Samsung as dealers providing flashing junkies with their fix. Has been going on since the S1 and hopefully will continue for years to come.

Haha, and we're all waiting for our next fix, I love it!
I see your point abouw warranty and beta testing, however while most of the people here know what they're doing there are some users here (and other sites where info generated here is distributed) that shouldn't be flashing. Looking at the leak threads, they're filled with people replying who don't have a clue. As there are some options available in custom ROMs which can damage your device like OC'ing, to me it's logical Samsung warns about warranty being void.
But warning is one thing, actually not repairing broken phones is another thing. I once returned a fully customized SGS1 which died due to being a bad batch. The service center wasn't making an issue at all, while there are some ways that they've could find out that the device was flashed. Maybe wait and see what actually happens when people bring in broken, flashed SGS3's (with flash counters >0) at repair centers.
As said if you want to beta test you give the samples to those that are capable .
Last thing you do is give it to the clueless .
Nothing to say that Samsung did not start out in the early days feeding stuff to XDA when it was a developers forum .

I've patented breathing... I am prepared to FRAND this and because I'm reasonable, it's only going to be £1 per person, except iStuff owners who get to fork out 10k just because.
Back on topic... Manufacturers leaking roms out is nothing new. That way they get a whole bunch of people testing with real-life use and the flash-junkies are happy.

Why the ICS secrecy?

So after years of enjoying xda anonymously I had to ask: why the sudden secrecy about the ICS leak for the Atrix 4G?
I've been enjoying xda for my Bionic and over 'there' (lol) we don't care. If there is a leak we all go crazy and post howto's and upload it to a dozen fileshare sites, share info and just go buck ass wild.
Over the past couple of days I noticed there was a thread about a leak, then it got deleted, and ever since then it's "That ROM" and everyone is anal about providing info about it. What's the big deal? Really. Someone explain it.
I would love to get an ICS leak for my wife's Atrix 4G. She's having so much trouble with cellular data and Wifi it would be like a new phone to her.
I just went back to stock on my Bionic to wait for a soak test OTA for ICS I was invited for. If it works as well as the leak I've been running for months I'll be happy as a slinky on an escalator (sorry, had to use that one. It's from a US commercial and cracks me up).
So, what's the big deal with the secrecy?
The problem with XDA is perpetual misinformation.
Thread got deleted. People jumped to conclusions, thought it must be Motorola or some other company. Now everyone thinks if they keep it all "hush hush" that they won't realise people are bug testing and developing on the leak lol
The other day people got pissy and suspicious when someone who's been here for years (but only posted recently, sorta like how i started here) because he asked for AT&T APK's and logs (plaintext, anyone could comb through for personal info and remove it before sending).

I SAW THAT .. that was hilarious. I was really close to comment about that in my first post; something like "Don't worry, I promise I'm no undercover spook from Apple" (since they own the Atrix's fingerprint reader company now). Bringing Apple in here would have really stirred up some ****
I guess I'll wait until things die down and get organized. My wife doesn't like me messing with her phone so I need to get it right the first time lol
Initially there was a mis-understanding due to lack of information, people assumed and inferred too much from epinter's thread removal. Whether or not the paranoia is justified, fact remains that epinter wanted his thread removed and that some company wanted the leak hushed in XDA although they did not do it via the right channels.
Now I think it became the defacto standard to call the leak 'that rom', not due to paranoia but because people are familiar with that name. Its quite cool too, adds a story to our beloved phone.
We are all masons. That's why.
It wasn't apple. It was Microsoft . The sent a dozen ninjas bearing swords coated with a special toxin distilled from a rare variety of cease and desist notice only found growing in the shadow of Steve Jobs's grave stone.

You guys have reading comprehension issues. Kennethpenn didn't say who it was, except that it *wasn't* Motorola.
Epinter took his thread down on his own, unrelated to any communications about the ROM.

People see what they want to see. People jump to conclusions. People repeat these assumptions so often that they morph into "the truth". People are idiots.

Yes. Only you know what is really going on. Only you are smart. But you won't be sued. You are anonymous but the board is not and I don't think they have enough money to go against software companies.
Be reasonable.

I do often think that I'm one of the few here who has a lick of common sense. But I guess it's easier to go with the smart-ass answer than admit you may be part of the problem, eh?

Interesting. Now, back to what I was actually talking about, re: people making baseless assumptions and running with them until they become convinced it's "the truth" (and presenting it as unsubstantiated fact). Any opinions on that, sir?

Says the person who won't even discuss the issue I brought up, who instead tries to deflect the issue by talking about something else? Okay, sure.
Atrix ICS/JB over due!!
Atrix deserves an ICS update!! Love this Phone.
Personally I feel that the community should set an example by creating a stable ICS/JB build for the phone.

You're new here, but don't ever expect anything from the community. They "should"? No, they shouldn't do anything, they don't owe you or me anything. Be happy with what they're already done.

Forgive my sense of humour...
If your wife insisting on ICS then the easiest solution is divorcing her, otherwise your marriage is safe in spite of her Atrix ownership.
A working ICS ROM is not going to happen from any ROM leaks unless Motorola finishs cooking the ROM. The support of ICS ROM by XDA members would be an issue, at least for me.

Cooking????? ROM??????
And why would a Firmware supported by xda developers be a problem for you?

Lol. My wife doesn't care what she runs but she has horrible issues with cellular data stability. I had too with my Bionic before I installed an ICS leak. That's why I'm banking on this leak.
I don't know the state of this leak, but if it is anything like the Bionic leaks it's good enough.

And if you ever feel the community should do something, set up an example and... do it then share with others.
