[Q] Root exploit for 183.46.15 - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any hope on rooting 183.46.15. is it Verizon that locks bootloaders and patches kernels because i have also have a verizon note 2 with locked bootloader and patched kernel. But some people were able to make root scripts for this phone running on JB and KK although their bootloaders were locked and kernels patched. I have rooted my phone running KK but cant flash custom recoveries/ROMs.

Right now, there are no exploits. Making another post about it isn't going to speed things along, either.

does anyone have fastboot files for system version 183.46.15? and the same question again any root/BL unlocking exploit for the same system version?

Asking about root/unlock again isn't going to change the outcome. There is nothing right now.
For the FXZ, check your other thread.

Rooting the Moto X

This is more of a PSA:
In case anyone is curious, the current motochopper isn't compatible with the Moto X. Motochopper seem to able to inject the exploit, but failed to inject SuperSU.
Framaroot doesn't seem to work either.
Just need to wait someone much cleverer than myself to root the device!

I think with how many different variations there are of this phone we'll have some good luck. Patients is the key. It's already a slick phone, rooting will just make it that much better.

Have you tried Motochopper? How do you know the sploit works? If you can get a root shell you should be able to do anyone else you want. I've been trying numerous things, I have a dev unit with an open unlocked kernel but it's way older than the release kernel.

I can confirm that the exploit doesn't work.
Version on the dev userdebug kernel I have is 3.4.0-xline-eng-g7a0ce30-00001-g79a2847 (built Apr 8)
Version on the other production kernel I have is 3.4.42-xline-gfd1a699-00158-g8990abb (build Jul 20)
I need to get a kernel dump of the production kernel before I try the libperf exploit. I'm not holding my breath on it working since a fix for that exploit came out about a month before that build. I've been trying to see get a transparent proxy inbetween the production phone to see if I can locate where the OTA servers are to try and download an image.
I'm able to take a dump of the userdebug kernel if anyone also has an unlocked bootloader and is interested in being a Guinea pig.

Need help rooting Razr M

I want to root my Razr M and need assistance as I've never rooted a phone before. Could someone link me a safe guide that I can use? My phone is that "Not for sale. Motorola Mobility Confidential Restricted Property" version and it apparently can't seem to detect any kitkat update(even though razr m has the update). So I'm going to root it and update it to kitkat. I'm not a noob per say, just that I haven't ever rooted a phone and have least bit knowledge about cellphones.

Everything has the potential to go bad. So, if you're not willing to accept that, modifying is not for you. With that being said, Sam's update is easy to use if you follow the directions. Once updated, root and unlocking the bootloader are also easy.

Root

I have a Droid Maxx, and Razr Maxx HD and perhaps some beer cash for the answer to root...
I was thinking flashing twrp, then let it root, or am i way off or require an unlocked bootloader? I tried sunshine, but no go as it requires root.
So if i understand, you can get root without an unlocked bootloader, or is an unlocked bootloader a prerequisite of root? I am thinking not, but i am a Windows/SharePoint guy and pretty dumb to linux...

You need an unlocked bootloader to flash TWRP (which flashes SuperSU). There is no known root method available yet because the phone has only been out for about 8 hours.
The Sunshine team has apparently said they will not be supporting Motorola devices for 4.4.4 in their 3.0 release, only HTC, so unlikely it will work there.

Yeah, I didn't think I'd need root but the dpi on this thing is just way too high. For being such a great display it's hindered by the scaling. Easily fixed with root though!!
Found this on some Chinese site. If I had a backup phone I'd try it. But I don't. So can't risk bricking. Anyone else want to take a leap of faith? Ummm... Won't let me post the link because I'm still a noob apparently... So gonna try breaking it up. Just remove the line returns and spaces.

Didn't work for me. Too be safe I used a virtual machine with a snap shot taken before installing so I can revert back without the risk of spyware. Also tried Kingo but no luck with either.
---------- Post added at 06:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 AM ----------
Also vroot during the root attempt installs 2 apps on your phone and who knows what it installs on Windows without running a regmon, if you do decide to try it make sure you uninstall the 2 chinese apps when your done trying. Also like I mentioned above I would highly not to install vroot or Kingo on your daily driver windows machine. Leave the testing to people who have virtual machines they can install these apps on.
I have used vroot and kingo in the past to successfully root so I know they do/can work, they just haven't been updated yet to work on the Droid Turbo. Hopefully they will.

[FAQ][ROOT]Answers to Questions about Root

All Your Root Questions Answered:
This thread is a work in progress. Ask your root questions, and I'll answer them in the OP. This way we can clean up the other thread.
Thank you @DmdStar, @somberfox, @CrashXXL, and everyone else I missed (which I will add to the OP)
Q: I followed all the directions and after I finished the root procedure, my device is stuck at the M logo? HALP.
A: You didn't follow all the directions, and now you're going to have to start over from step one. Flash SU6-7 in RSD Lite as mentioned in the directions, and follow the directions word-for-word. You're only wasting your own time, not ours.
Q: My phone is stuck at the black green and the root script isn't detecting my phone?
A: You're probably using a USB3.0 port which isn't supported. Move your phone to a USB2.0 port and install the Qualcomm drivers provided in the download.
Q: Why is it taking so long, I think it froze.
A: Just leave your phone alone and get a coffee. Make that three. It's a long process.
Q: Can I install blah-blah ROM?
A: NO! While this is a perma-root, you are unable to disable write-protection, therefore you can't use Safestrap.
Q: Now that I'm rooted, can I unlock my bootloader?
A: SU4-21 was the last system update that worked with Sunshine. Unless you can get in contact with the Chinese middleman, you're out of luck. Sorry.
Q: Why won't my changes to /system persist after a reboot?
A: Unfortunately, no one has managed to circumvent write protection on the device, therefore you can't do anything to /system and expect it to persist unless you do soft-reboots. Sorry.
Q: Can I delete system apps?
A: No, unless you edit the system.mbn and split it into 16mb chunk files. There's no way around this, sorry.
Q: Can I install your Busybox image?
A: I mean if you want a brick, go right ahead. No one's stopping you.
Q: Viper4Android?
A: Which needs Busybox. Again, feel free to proceed at your own risk.
Q: Can I downgrade to SU6-7 if I took the upgrade to SU6-7.2?
A: Yes, you can. There's no magic trick to downgrading to SU6-7, just flash it in RSD Lite.
Q: Can i have only root with SU6-7 and locked bootloader?
A: You can not unlock your bootloader past SU4-21.
Q: Wait, if we can downgrade to SU6-7, why not just downgrade to SU4-21 and unlock our bootloaders?
A: Because you can't. Debating about it on the forums won't magically make it work neither. Nor will complaining about Motorola locking down the devices. You bought an on-contract device that you knew was going to be locked and stock. They also had a developer edition MAXX for sale. If you didn't get it, blame yourself, not Motorola/Verizon.
Q: Can we take the OTA update without losing root?
A: Yes, but you will lose Xposed if you do.(Answered by @DmdStar)
Thanks for the faq @thenameisnigel

yeah thx
Nice one ! Thanks for Viper4Android information. What preset did you choose (battery saving, high/super quality) ?
Actually I don't see what stops you from deleting an app, although it's faster "frozing" it via Titanium for example (paid solution). I removed some files successfully (I should try with apps). Also, did you try installing another ROM ? I didn't take the time to try it but it might work with the python script. You just would have to replace almost all memory blocks, which would take 16+ hours (!!).
I've another question : did someone succeed in installing CF.Lumen ?
Thanks again for the faq
PS : agree with Artimunor just below my post, change colors please !

It's possible if you edit the image like what you're doing. That answer was meant more for people who want to edit /system directly from the device. I'll clarify it.

Only if you put it in the image before you flash it to the phone it seems, if you do it afterwards it does not persist.
another question
can we take the OTA update without losing root?

Didnt try it myself but from what ive gathered if you used the crashxxl method you will not loose root if you take the su6-7.2 OTA update.

Dude why are you telling people to take the update when we already know that it'll break Xposed? If you're not here to help, don't post. Simple as that.

are you referring to losing functionality of a baked in exposed? I am running the crash exploit, with non-baked exposed, on SU6-7.2

Rooting Failure Droid Turbo 2

Hey guys,
This is my first post and I have no idea what I'm doing so please correct me if I'm doing something wrong. I am trying to root my Droid Turbo 2 using Kingo. Every time I get to 53% it skips to 100% and then says the root failed. I saved the log, so I can post it if someone wants to see it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Check with the app manufacturer to see if it is compatible with the Turbo 2.
As far as I know there is no publicly available root or unlock for our device.
Droid 2 Turbo hasn't been rooted/unlocked yet so that app isn't gonna work.

My guess is because it doesn't exist.
There has got to be a at least a root exploit if we cannot figure out how to bootloader unlock...
Why does there have to be a root exploit?

that's not particularly likely. with each new version of android, and with the new security updates, the chance of finding even a temp-root exploit has decreased exponentially. Plus, with the lack of developer motivation for the turbo 2, there is even less of a chance. The only real chance is a new version of something like towelroot, a one-size fits all solution
