[Q] Will it work in Australia? - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys was just wondering if anyone here is based in Australia and had gotten a Nexus player?
How has the setup been? Any issues with DNS services? Have you had to set up static routes similar to the chromecast? and does this cause issues with accessing the US playstore?

I am Australian and have bought a unit from the states.
To address your concerns-
Setup was the easiest of any device I have owned literally pair remote, login and you're up. No Regional Problems...
No issues with DNS same settings as I had for chomecast didn't think twice.
I had static routes setup already, so yes.
Accessing the US Playstore has so far been impossible even with VPN, US account & US Credit Card. I reckon the location settings have been interfering, but it was no problem though I just manually installed Netflix and Hulu and they work fine. All other apps show in Play Store so I just installed Plex etc. from there.

Absolutely awesome thank you for your comment!

I Goggled proxy server uk and got this http://www.xroxy.com/proxy-country-GB.htm. Try using a web based proxy server form that list. Will be slow but should work (Have not tested on my n1).
I know you're running Froyo and the option isn't there, but cyanogenrom has a proxy for wifi setting. When Cyanogen updates, ya might want to use his rom and you'll have an option.
The easiest thing on Froyo would be to get a VPN. I personally use VyprVPN and it works just fine (even though Hulu has blocked android-devices from seeing any videos). VyprVPN has both a us and a eu based vpn-server, so it should suit most people. I'm also getting speeds in excess of 10Mbps which is pretty impressive.
edit:
Just remembered that you have to have a giganews diamond account to actually use it, oh well there are probably other similiar services around.

Anyone managed to watch live stream (CBS, FOX etc) outside of US?

Hi all,
Just wondering if there's any vpn client/software that I can download off marketplace in order to watch live stream/recorded video directly off the browser on the SGS. They aren't opening as I live outside of US....any suggestions?
Kind regards.
bump.
No one knows or care???
VPN is built in already... Just need a US endpoint.
But most that rubbish you can get off Bittorrent anyway probably (not that there is much to watch on TV anyway these days)
I was also searching for a service which provides free streamlining, tried so many options and then one of my friend gave me back door access to see most popular US channels like hulu , netflix etc. etc.
Now when I changed my dns settings with the below open gateway of a vpn service, I can see unlimited channels so decided to share with all of my friends.
Try yourself, and change your dns address with the below settings to enable to watch US channels and refresh.
Primary DNS to 23.21.182.24
Secondry DNS to 184.169.139.227
Enjoy !! Do let me know if feels any trouble in launch.

[Q] VPN issues with country specifics websites

I got my Transformer yesterday and I'm loving it! However I have some problems with getting VPN to work with country specific websites like my company's portal and bbc iplayer. I'm in cyprus for holidays and I cannot use any of these websites. I successfully created a vpn connection with my UK server but it seems that the browser doesnt use the vpn connection. When I navigate to findmyip.com it tells me that the ip is the wifis ip instead of the one provided by the vpn connection. This works well with my android phone so its a bit strange that it doesn't work with my tablet. Any ideas on what's going wrong?
idk my VPN works just fine.
I use OpenVPN and everything has been smooth. Not sure how default would work though.
You have tot tell your device to "se the remote (vpn endpoint) gateway. How you do this depends on what software you use.
Can someone put some more details about issues and if they are easy to resolve?
I live in Poland and I use VPN to watch Netflix / Hulu / ABC in US and BBC iPlayer (+ live channels), 4oD and ITV Player in UK.
So, VPN is kinda important to me
At the moment on iPad I do not have any issues.
Do you guys know: if Netflix app for HC will be available in USA can users from different parts of the world get it (easily) as well? With iPad all I had to do was to create account in US iTunes Store...

[Q] Change Mobile DATA DNS server on i9505 4.4.2 Kitkat

Hi guys,
I've tried searching the whole forum, and I can't seem to find any information on how to effectively change the DNS server when you are connected on your mobile network. I've tried various DNS changer apps in Play store, but somehow, DNS changing method doesn't work on 4.3 below.
I am on Imperium Rom v. 4.0, (ROOTED)
I have been struggling on how can I watch netflix on my phone while I am not in the US.
Thanks in advance!

I need one clarification: how the DNS change would allow you to trick netflix that your phone is in fake location?
Furthermore, I am unsure if the neflix is not checking the location in which the phone/SIM is registered...
To tell you honestly, I really don't have any idea how that works. But it has been working in my wifi connection. I am able to watch netflix outside the US when I change the DNS. Try googling "Netflix DNS" you'll see more info about it.

Hi, I wrote an app called "Override DNS for KitKat" which implements the new way KitKat uses to change DNS servers.
It needs root, but you are already in that situation.
Let me know if it helps.
Awesome! Will give it a go! Thanks a bunch!

Getting VPN client to work

Hey guys. Got a nexus player a few weeks ago and was able to sideload TorGuard on there. I can enter in my credentials and it authenticates, but when it goes to establish a connection it fails. Does anyone know how to get it to establish? On most recent stock OTA and not rooted. Also the bootloader is still locked.

I just got my NP today and am having the same problem getting TorGuard to run. I got it sideloaded OK and it seems to authenticate fine, but never establishes a connection. Were you able to figure this out? Any assistance would be enormously appreciated.
Thanks!
Vpn
I read a web site that suggested loading openvpn installer and openvpn settings for the fire tv do you think it would work on the nexus player? ??
SOLVED!
You simply need to have TorGuard change your 'username' to something other than an email address --- the email address format (e.g. '@' '.com') screws things up on the Nexus Player. However, if you simply have a traditional 'text' username, everything authenticates fine. Simply contact TorGuard support and they can make this change for you in a couple of minutes.

Is it possible to use other vpns than torguard? ??
If it runs on 5.1.1 or 6 it should work for Us

Since we're running either v5.1.1 or Android v6, any VPN client certified for either Android system should run on our Nexus Players.
I have a torGuard account and only have experience with that, so far.
Torguard vpn
Ok so I can connect with the vpn but when I exit the app and try a to watch a tv app from the same country as vpn connection it doesn't work. When I go back to the vpn app it says that it is initializing and a new ip address appears. Any ideas? ??
I have this same issue ... the TV app I am trying to load is Netflix and it says it cannot find the netflix servers or connection... Can't seem to find a fix but the TorGuard support are pretty good and helping me at the moment will let you know if a fix is found ... Unless you have a fix already?
I just order a Nexus player hopefully private Internet access works
