[Q] Turn off Suggestions / Recommendations Update:Answered - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In the review on Gizmodo they said you can turn off the recommendations per app but I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone find it?

They seem to be controlled by the notifications setting:
Settings > Apps > (whatever app) > Notifications > On/Off

Oh crazy, thanks. I saw that setting but I didn't think notifications = recommendations. Totally works though.

ah nice moves! never use google play movies

Well, we have been using Amazon Instant Video (since we're Prime anyway). And I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how to get the Amazon apk to the Nexus so that Chainfire's lovely little app can find it and hopefully that will work.
What do I do.... get the apk to the PC, then connect the Nexus Player to my PC and copy it over? I'd hate to re-invent the wheel if someone else here has already done it. I'd like to know how YOU did it.
Thanks!

Hello there,
This was one of the first thing I tried, but it didn't work. Both the Amazon, and the Prime Instant Video apps have to be installed. Just like on a phone. (In case you're not aware the Instant Video app doesn't work without the Amazon app.) Anyways, I side loaded both apps, they started up, I logged in and was able to browse my video library, but I was not able to play any videos. The video begins to load, but shortly after it just goes blank. I used a USB OTG cable and a mouse to navigate through the Amazon apps. (A mouse just makes it a lot easier.)
So, if you would like to try it for yourself here's what I did:
On Nexus Player:
1. Enable developer options. (Go to "Setting," under Device row go to "About," scroll down to and click "Biuld" 7 or 8 times.
2. Turn on USB debugging. (Go to "Setting," under Preferences row go to "Developer options," click on debugging and turn on USB debugging.
3. Turn on Unknown sources. (Go to "Settings," under Personal row go to "Security & Restrictions," and turn on "Unknown sources."
On computer:
1. Make sure you have the latest Android SDK installed. (and that it's up to date)
2. Place whatever apk(s) you want to install inside the "platform-tools" folder. (wherever you extracted it\adt-bundle-windows-etc..\sdk\platform-tools) Once the apk is in the folder I usually rename the app with no spaces.
3. Connect your Nexus Player to your computer.
4. Open a command window on the platform-tools folder. (Shift, Right click, "Open command window here")
5. Check that your computer actually detects your NP by typing this command: "adb devices" No quotation marks, it should show your device as something like "04fc8453e8f6d75b device" (The very first time you do this an RSA key fingerprint notification will pop up on the NP (TV screen) saying, "Allow USB debugging?" check the "Always allow from this computer" mark and then "OK."
6. If step 5 checks out, and your NP is detected then use this command to sideload/install apps: "adb install appname.apk" Again, no quotation marks. (fill in "appname" with the actual name of the app, no spaces.) If all goes well you will see a "Success" remark in the command window.
7. Check Sideload Launcher and your app should now be listed there for you to use.
**To uninstall a sideloaded app go to "Settings," under Device row go to "Apps," then under the Downloaded apps row just select an app, and you'll have the option to uninstall it.
Good luck....

I also had the same issue. Got both amazon and amazon instant video sideloaded, but just when the video is about to start playing it returns me to the main window. It also happens with the Xfinity Go app...
Any ideas why this is?

I really couldn't tell you why. My best guess is simply that these Amazon apps are not designed to work on Android TV.
I also sideloaded Popcorn Time, but it's a hit or miss. Some movies download just fine and play fine, while others get downloaded to a certain percentage and then stop and some just don't download at all. (FYI after watching a movie from Popcorn Time on the NP I always clear the cache folder in the Popcorn Time setting because some movie end up being about 2GB in size.)

Lollipop hasn't been out long enough for many apps to become compatible. Too early to tell if its a Lollipop issue or an Android TV issue. I'd assume you'll have to wait a while since I'm sure it's not a priority for Amazon to update for Lollipop since the FireTV isn't Lollipop yet either.

Yea, but what is odd is that I see mixed comments. Some people say that amazon video is working, but they don't say if it works for them or how.
Seems odd that both amazon video and xfinity apps do the same thing... Apps work fine but video won't load...

hulu on xoom

hello fellow xoomers!
im trying to watch hulu on my brand spanking new xoom wifi that i purchased from bestbuy yesterday. i've installed the flash and installed Flash_10.3-Hulufied_BRDizzle.apk
but am not able to goto about:debug on the browser. is anyone experiencing the same issue?
There is a special version of flash you need to install. Funny, b/c I am looking for it now
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
Go to the navigation bar and type in about:debug and hit enter - nothing will seem to happen. Then go to settings, debug.
For me, I bought PlayOn which is running on a Windows machine in my house. With PlayOn I can watch Hulu, CNN, Comedy Central, Netflix, Amazon VOD, and local media files. Well worth the invenstment.
i did install the special flash version. i cant post web links since im a newbie, but if you google - watch hulu on xoom. you will find driod life - how to watch hulu on the motorola xoom site with instructions, but its not working for me.
settings, debug?
settings, applications, unknown source is already checked.
He means the settings in the browser itself... it's in the upper right. Running the about:debug just unlocks extra settings
on the browser itself, on the upper right, settings. i only see general, privacy & security, advanced, and labs. no debug. do u guys have debug???
ok, i followed these instructions and debug showed up in settings on the browser

1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter.
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state. [Optional] If you do this step you will need to redo this step every time to enable Desktop Browsing.
Here's a tip for quickly enabling desktop mode in the future, if you wish to add it to the first post:
8. Do these one-time actions to create a shortcut to "about:debug" after completing through step 5 above:
A. Open Bookmarks and choose Add Bookmark
B. Edit the properties of the bookmark to set Label to "about:debug", Address to "about:debug", and leave Add To as "Bookmarks" so it's at the top level.
9: To quickly toggle desktop mode on and off in the future:
A. Go to Bookmarks and select "about:debug". This doesn't enable the mode, but puts it in your address bar.
B. Touch the address bar to give it focus, and press ENTER or tap the GO icon. This will turn Debug Mode on or off depending on its last state, and if you previously enabled desktop mode... toggles that as well.
Note 1: Verify your mode by tapping the Settings icon. If you see "Dumping navigation cache" and "Dump V8 counters", then Debug mode is enabled.
Note 2: You do not have to drill down and change desktop settings each time you toggle debug mode - all of your debug settings from your last session are rememberd.
i've change the UAString to desktop and it displays - hulu requires Flash Player 10.0.32 or higher. Please download and install the latest version of the Flash player before continuing.
bummer, it doesnt work.....
Thank you for posting the instructions for the shortcut .
Make sure pluging are always enabled . I also had to uninstall Adobe Air .
has anyone able to watch hulu with 3.1 and adobe flash 10.3?
I am on 3.1, using the "hulified" version of Flash 10.3 found in the development section. I use DolphinHD browser exclusively for hulu with good results.
Using a rooted 3.1 wifi on BRD Tiamat 1.4.4, flashed with ua string perma change, using the Hulufied Flash installed.
Plays Hulu without any issues.
Go to Desktop, Settings, Manage App, All App, Browser, and Clear cache, clear data, and force stop. Open back up the browser. Then redo the about:debug directions on here again.. It should then work for you. Some how Hulu saves data to your phone identifying it as a mobile device so when you do install the modified flash version, it still thinks you on mobile.

i guess im going to have to root my xoom.
Is anyone elses video choppy when they play hulu? I got the mod working, but the video doesn't play smooth long enough to watch an entire episode. It will start out playing fine for the first couple minutes, then it will start to play choppy and eventually the video image will just freeze. The audio will continue, but the video stops.
try a different browser like dolphin mini. I use that just for hulu.

Hey,
Where did you get the uastring perma fix from?
I have been successful to root my US Xoom WiFi 3.1 using BRD's method as well as putting tiamat 1.4.4 on it but cant seem to get framework-res.apk working properly. I used this method here but i ran into a few problems:
-desktop uastring opens websites in desktop mode fine BUT
-when i got to the address bar to do a google search, the search doesnt go through.
instead it opens a url titled "http://friday/... (cant remember the rest of this).
Would you be a doll and send me a link to where you found a good framework-res.apk? or send me yours
Thanks in advnace!

Peloton Spin Bike

I have a peloton Spin Bike, and it can with a screen where your able to stream workouts on through the companies subscription. The screen is operated by Android Jellybean: 4.1.1.
OK, so here's my challenge for anyone that,s willing to accept!
Problem: when you turn on the peloton bike screen your locked into the peloton app, and the you can't get out of the app to do other things... For example, watch YouTube or something else.
Challenge: I'm sure this is an easy hack, but if anyone can figure out how to unlock this. You be compensated for your efforts!
I'd love to be compensated for the effort, but really you can just Google the command sequence as it's pretty popular to install Netflix and watch movies rather than consume the Peloton content.
I successfully extracted the Peloton APK from the bike and installed it on my Galaxy S6. The issue is that it won't go past the login screen. I figure one of two things is happening. Either the app is calling a procedure to validate that hardware on the bike is working before logging in, or two, the Peloton server is validating the login request is coming from a bike instead of another device via a token or validation of operating system version, etc.
pretty simple to do, go to about section of the bike, tap on the lower right corner area of the about screen, which should take you out of the app into a main android area....after that open the browser, download apk installer and then download whatever apps you want to add to the tablet
hey guys, just bought a used peloton and have two really specific questions:
- has anyone reset all the data through settings? If so, what happens?
- I'm not seeing the invisible button that everyone is describing here and in other forums. I also have developer options on so I can see all of the hit areas. Am I missing something?
Thank you!

But once you are in the about screen, how do you download new software? I dont see an option anywhere to download. I only see the disable ap button.
My Peloton console won't go beyond searching for network if I use Wifi, or download updates if I use ethernet. I don't think it's a hardware failure and had been looking for a ROM to load it. Anyone backup their console? It's a first generation tablet running lollipop.
Any chance someone figured out how to do this with the Peloton Tread? Its running Android 7... I can get to APKmirror.com and click download, just feel like they went to an extra effort to hide / disable downloads... or maybe a way to side load via USB, I can't get a USB device to recognize...

If you connect via USB you can place the APK on the device. My only issue is that it wont install as its an unknown source and i am unable to allow unknown sources to install.
if youre on a peloton running nougat (android 7.0), from the login screen you can go to:
wifi (icon, top right) --> system settings --> legal (licenses etc.) --> and click any button that says homepage.
it will bring you up in a browser from which point you can download a third party launcher such as Nova and use it to display a stock android UX (homescreen). once you have this you might choose to download an apk for google play, or even just grab apks (app files) via google searches. (for example: google: Netflix android 7.0 apk --> then follow links to download).
This does not work for me. Clicking download does nothing. Any ideas.

I just got the bike the other day and tried through both downloading the app directly onto the peloton tablet (as you recommended) and through ADB, followed the instructions of this :
https://www.reddit.com/r/pelotoncycle/wiki/index/howto/root
but it would just "hang"
I then learnt to add -p when installing through ADB and discovered this error:
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_UNEXPECTED_EXCEPTION: Failed to parse /data/app/vmdl1690417893.tmp/base.apk: AndroidManifest.xml]
I have tired using ADB to install the app on my android phone and it worked fine - which means it's not the app - I believe!
Please help!!!

You don't need active subscription to use apps that you have already installed. Sadly, The problem is most of the apps have new versions and old versions are deprecated within few months.

[How To] Change screensaver on Fire TV (non-root): Apple, Chromecast, etc.

Updates below
After a while of screwing around trying to get the Apple TV screensaver on the Fire TV, I've finally managed to figure it out, and thought I should post a guide. This one's for the Apple TV Screensaver, but any daydream screensaver should work too.
1. Sideload your screensaver APK to the Fire TV, in this case it's Aerial Dream. Install it on another device & extract the APK, or use google search 'your screensaver apk' for a mirror. You'll likely have to put it on your other device to follow the next steps if using something else, however.
2. Connect to your Fire TV via ADB and open a shell:
Code:
$ adb shell
[email protected]:/ $
3. Use the following command to set the new screensaver:
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ settings put secure screensaver_components com.codingbuffalo.aerialdream/com.codingbuffalo.aerialdream.AerialDream
[email protected]:/ $
4. (optional) Check to see if you've set it up:
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ settings get secure screensaver_components
settings get secure screensaver_components
com.codingbuffalo.aerialdream/com.codingbuffalo.aerialdream.AerialDream
[email protected]:/ $
All done. Now you can enjoy a different screensaver on your Fire TV!
5. (optional) To go back to Amazon's original screensaver (bet you won't after you see the Apple TV one, use the following command:
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ settings put secure screensaver_components com.amazon.bueller.photos/.daydream.ScreenSaverService
[email protected]:/ $
Notes:
For other screensavers, set them up on your other device by going to Settings - Display - Daydream - Select your screensaver, then use the command from step 4 to get the proper activity name to use, usually in the format com.packagename/something.ActivityName
The Apple Screensaver saves large videos, so you should have extra disk space and lots of data transfer available.
The first time Aerial Dream starts, it has to download some of the screensaver media, which usually takes a few minutes on a decent network. Let it sit on the loading screen and be patient.
Hey, it doesn't look like much, but it took me quite a while to figure this out. Hope it helps someone out there who wants to customize their Fire TV a little more.
If anyone knows of any other cool daydream screensavers, please post 'em here.
Update August 1st
I've finally got the Chromecast screensaver (home page?) working on an FTV1. I had to update Website Daydream with the open pull requests; the author is MIA unfortunately. I have attached my debug build of an un-signed APK to this post you can use.
Install it the same way as the Apple screensaver above. The daydream package name / service name is:
uk.co.liamnewmarch.daydream/uk.co.liamnewmarch.daydream.WebsiteDaydreamService
You'll also need Activity Launcher to set it up.
Go into Activity Launcher - All activities - Website Daydream - Settings. Set address to https://clients3.google.com/cast/chromecast/home, Display - Full Screen, Overview mode, and Wide view port all checked, leave the rest as defaults.
Although I've suggested using the Chromecast home screen, you can of course use any web site you wish. As always, if you find something cool, post it below.

Ariel Dream 2.7GB moved to ext. SDCARD
I HAD 3.24GB free then followed this Guide to get the very cool Ariel Dreams running as my screensaver instead of the stock Amazon(which I like a lot too - just seen it all).
Next thing I know Kodi is acting as it does for me when I get low on storage.
Sure enough I had 1.14GB free on the tiny 5GB FTV internal storage.
I thought I had to abandon Ariel Dream - nice to look at but to big.
The I found a old AFTVNews article on "How to move and run Amazon Fire TV apps from an External USB Storage Drive"
Did not need the Stickmount mentioned as I already had an SDCard (external) installed. (old article)
Just followed the FolderMount portion to move it to sdcard1 (even the com.codingbuffalo.aerialdream directory was already over there just empty) by pairing it.
Back to 3.24GB free and Ariel Dream running with it's HUGE videos.
Just thought I would mention how I solved this space delima this guide(very helpful) presented.

This isn't a normal app, it's a daydream screensaver. There is no UI, there is (currently) no options, and the only way to get it to do anything is by following the guide in the OP.

Same thing for me right after install - But then I rebooted.
App is now GONE from the home screen.
Just worked after inactivity (whatever you have it set to).
Hi, i installed this on my fire TV Gen 2, non-rooted. and the screensaver media seems to have taken a lot of space on the internal drive. is there anyway to reclaim the space the screensaver has taken up? is there a way for me to move the default cache or app over to the SDcard?

Hi, it seems im late to the party my fire tv 2nd gen is on version 5.2.1.0 and it seems to not be rootable.
if i go back to stock screensaver i still dont free up the space aerial dream took up. it seems the only thing to do from here to reclaim would be to factory reset?

I believe the latest FireOS has a root exploit you can use to install TWRP/pre-rooted 5.0.5.1 with King Root. Check your device's thread here on XDA; I'm not familiar with FTV2 at all.
And to erase the screensaver's cache, you can either uninstall Aerial Dream, or delete /sdcard/Android/data/com.codingbuffalo.aerialdream

Try sideloading Google Photos app. It appears as a daydream screensaver on my N4, but I haven't used it before.

I'm guessing it's com.google.android.apps.photos.daydream.PhotosDreamService
You may need to use Activity Launcher to set it up too.

Code:
$ adb shell

Just wanted to thank you again for this. The Apple one worked and I used it for months. Switched back to the Amazon Collection. But just now am using the Chromecast. Works great. Can I install the Chromecast App on my FTV to change the speed the images are displayed ? Too slow for my tastes(Apple was to slow too BTW).
However, with 3 different screensavers I am pretty happy. I set the time to forever so they always are running.

Is the Fire HD 10 worth it? How locked down is it?

I rarely purchase Amazon products to begin with so I barely know much about them or their OS systems. The only other device I have experience with is the Fire TV and I recall it having a crap ton of unnecessary bloatware, I also recall it being a pain in the ass to get Google Play on there as well. I have no idea why they insist so hard on using only their apps but whatever.
I also would like to know if rooting is possible at this time? Is the bootloader locked too in case I want to install my own custom rom? How about installing an Android OS that isnt from Amazon?
I just got a 2017 blue 64 GB Fire HD 10 the day before yesterday.
It appears that the bootloader is locked (so no custom ROMs), and I have not seen any successful rooting methods for the stock ROM.
Having said that, after enabling unknown sources and ADB access, I managed to:
- Add the Google Play store.
- Add the Google Play services.
- Change the (normally locked) Amazon launcher to Nova Launcher.
- Enable widget support in Nova Launcher, again, the Amazon system interfered with, but did not prevent widget support.
- Add a modded YouTube apk that skips ads, allows background play, and video/audio downloads. (iYTBP)
Other Google apps, such as Gmail, Calendar, and Maps work as expected.
Be aware that the HD 10 does not have GPS, and does location services through Wi-Fi SSID locating. If needed, bluetooth GPS receivers do exist, and the tablet's bluetooth support seems unaffected.
Firefox (from the Google Play store) with the uBlock Origin add-on handles ad removal during web browsing.
I'm not yet sure how to block ads for applications system wide, but what I have so far is "good enough".
Where do you get the "modded Youtube APK" ?

Regarding block ads, try the following :
Or u can try to remove it via ADB.
1. Enable ADB on device & install ADB on computer
2. Connect and verify on computer that device is connected with "adb devices"
3. adb shell
4. pm clear --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso
5. Restart the device

Thank you SweetBearCub for that in-depth review on the item. I really appreciate the input.
I know the tablet has expandable storage with microSD cards but is it worth the extra $40 for 32GB more of internal storage? I know SD cards have more space per dollar but still.

There is no need for that, just install firefox and ublock extension on the tablet - and directly watch youtube vids without ads in the browser - can even request desktop version of the page (which i prefer)

This is a joke right? The youtube app has a much more intuitive interface and easily accessible menus to go through. If I remember where I got the modded apk I would post it but its definitely better than watching from the browser and having to pinch the screen to zoom in to access everything.

Might sound silly, but whe I run pm clear.... , I get "success" message, and the ads disappear, but they seem to pop-up again. Tried this a couple of times. What am I missing?

As someone who has gotten tired of all modding/rooting etc and left the 'scene' 5 years ago, i ended up buying a firehd10 just a few days ago.
It's very locked down, especially the lack of youtube/proper browser is very , very bad imho - if this is for you, and you're a geek like us, knock yourself out, sideload a bunch of apks and prepare to deal with the innevitable 'did the upgrade break my customization' cycle. If this is for kids, it's a great toy. If this is for non-technical adults, it's hard to recommend as they will probably wonder why they can't use all the wonderful apps their friends have on their ipads/pixels/sammy tablets.
my two cents. On the plus side, it's super cheap and makes for a great portable media player.
@ Legolas2
I followed the guide that you linked and I got Nova Launcher to show up on boot up with the caveat of Amazon's launcher briefly appearing when you press the home button. Do you know if there's a permanent way of scrapping it once you got Nova Launcher set as your default? I'm asking to be careful so I don't cause any potential bricks or worse.
P.S. The ads also kept showing up despite me running that kill code. I just did it again and it seemed to go away for the moment. If it shows up again I'm gonna call Amazon to request it gone.

Hi Remix
FYI, I am new to the Fire HD world too.
Yes, I seem to have the same issue as you. The below command gives me the SUCCESS message, but the ads reappeared.
PHP:
adb> pm clear --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso
I originally used Nova, and later switched to Google Now. I had/have the fireLauncher popup briefly too. Originally I didn't have the "Detect Home Button Press" enabled, but after enabling it, I THINK it is a lot better.
Ensure home button detection is enabled: "Settings -> Accessibility -> To detect home button press"
Hope that helps (a bit)

usage data access

Hi,
is it possible to grant "usage data access" to a app?
I can't find it in the settings but I need it for two apps.
Thanks.

Did you ever find a way to grant "usage data access"?
I will be writing a thread sometime in the next day or so that involves a total reinstallation of the settings on the rooted HD 10 that unlocks that setting amongst others Amazon has locked us out of. If you have an HD 8, download activity launcher from the Play Store open it then tap on the box in the upper left, and tap on all activities, scroll down to settings and tap on that and then tap on apps with usage access.

No. I sent the tablet back.
Grab Activity Launcher from the play store and run it. Select 'all activities' and wait for the list to populate. Scroll down and select 'Settings'. In the submenu that opens, scroll down to 'Apps with Usage Access.' From there you can grant / deny this permission to all apps that have requested it.

Activity launcher doesn't work on my Kindle Fire 8. Crashes at 149 every time, even after hard reset.
Trying to find out why my battery drains so fast, and trying to give permission to AccuBattery to track apps.

Try the free version GSAM which is available in the Amazon and Google App stores or via your favorite trusted app download site. You'll need to grant permissions via ADB to gather application specific data. Fortunately, the app guides you through this process which is relatively painless if familiar with ADB and tethered operations. Once complete GSAM runs circles around AccuBattery for those interested in getting to root cause ... although you may not be able to address the culprit(s) on an unrooted device. Another excellent choice: BBS (Better Battery Stats). Good luck.

Alternatively, try Activity Manager which works fine on my 8th gen HD 8.

also worth noting I don't believe you need root access to Grant the packages that need this permission using adb.
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.package.name android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS
Sent from my Amazon KFSUWI using XDA Labs
Sometimes I really thank god for smart people. I purchased a cheap tablet last month from the local walmart just for playing easy games like bingo and slots on but every time I would try and play a game it kept freezing up. And then I just decided to use it only for reading ebooks and then I was going back to using my fire tablet to play the games. I like apps that connect with the games I already enjoy playing and collect free giftcards from them apps. I play them all the time on my cellphone but then the battery runs dead way to fast with all the games that I play. So I just decided to use a giftcard winning app on my fire tablet and I could not use it because I could not give it permission to use the tablets "Usage Data Access" so I just looked online and found this forum. And fixed the problem in less then 2 minutes.
So all in all I would have never figured out how to fix this problem on my own thank you.
I also have the 7th Gen HD 8, but when I download Activity Launcher and run it, it loads up all 225 apps. But there is no settings submenu anywhere?
---------- Post added at 04:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:57 AM ----------
ah...nevermind. Had to click on the "Settings" app itself that Activity Launcher shows in the list of apps...
sadly this is a no go on my fire hdx 8.9 4th gen tablet
Adding an update here as they've either changed Activity Launcher or it shows differently on different tablets. I too have been driven mad by this "usage stats" request. I have wanted to add blockers and timers to my son's tablet but unable to until now.
If you cannot find the usage stats permission, download activities manager from Google Play. If you don't have Google Play on your Fire Tablet you'll need to add it using the ADB program, info for this is easy to find from Google and YouTube but I've linked it below.
Once you have downloaded Activity Manager, open it and click search, the magnifying glass at the top of the screen, start typing in Usage. The first result should say: Apps with Usage Access, open this and turn on whatever apps are off. It will give you a warning, just say "ok" and your apps should work.
As I know info can be hard to come by on the internet I am including ADB advice for anyone with a Fire Tablet here:
Open the description panel in the video to find the links to download the ADB program, the video will show you how to install it.
If you just see a blank "Fire" folder when you plug your Kindle Fire HD 10 (2019) into your desktop computer, tap on your "Settings" icon on your Home screen. Second option is "Connected Devices". Tap on that. First option there is "USB". Tap on that. The bottom half of that list says "Use USB for" and gives you some options. Select "File Transfer", and then go back to your file explorer on you desktop, make sure it is plugged into your Kindle with the supplied cable, and you should see One or Two folders depending on whether or not you have a microSD card installed.
On a Fire 7 and later if you want the the USB data transfer option on all the time/by default then you will need to open the development options, opening the developer options will also help you if you want to remove certain apps from the home screen (https://youtu.be/0zW7jejn2bM) or add Google Services such as play store and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n58XopeWj5M).
Open Developer Options by doing the following: Settings > Device Options > About Fire Tablet now tap Serial Number about 7 times, go back into the Device Options menu and you will see Developer Options second from the bottom Go into the Dev options and turn them on saying OK on the pop up warning. Under debugging select USB debugging, this will allow you to use the ADB program. #
To keep USB on file transfer by default:
Scroll down to Networking and tap Default USB configuration, set this to File Transfer so you will always see your tablet come up when you put it on a USB cable.
