Android L for Xoom owners - Xoom General

Any scope or hope we can see android L on Motorola Xoom??

Frankly, no

I can't buy anymore tablet soo I will stick with 4.4.4 and wait for ?!

does anyone know how the progess on lollipop for xoom is ?
what are the problems they are facing?
as there are other devices with tegra 2 that already have lollipop roms out
like galaxy tab 10.1 and i guess asus transformer
i seems the team eos and shishu have hit certain roadblocks
just wondering what those are...

Android L
I'd just be happy with a working link to get my Xoom rooted properly

No idea! I'm using CM11 (20141130). Still working well, but I'd also like to see the future on my Xoom. I don't know about ASUS, but the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does have an OMNI 5.1.1 that was recently released. I think that this is comparable to Lollipop 5.1.1.
I might just try to download and dissect the codes for both operating systems, and try reverse engineering. If I have some time next week I'll see if I can figure things out.

Cooming soon to you Xoom:

Great news!!! I can't wait to see lollipop on my loved xoom!!

Thanks so much for keeping my XOOM alive @Schischu. I haven't been this excited since @bigrushdog dropped 4.4.4 EOS goodness. :good:

This looks so fake, look at the Nav Bar... it's different from what i know Lollipop on tablets is... and anyone can fake and mod a Settings About scree as easy as modify some lines on Build.Prop... show us more than just a static screen and i can believe on this...
Show us the Notifications shade, Lockscreen and some Lollipop exclusive apps...

There is a better research than be a owner of a Lollipop Device (i have a Nexus 4 running AOSP 5.1.1) and while i don't have any proof that this is fake, neither he have any proof that is true!!!

tell me u are not really questioning the integrity of @Schischu

p.s. its stuff like that eventually scares some developers away...

I'm not questioning no one's integrity, just want a bit more proof that this is real, and i see the OP for the 5.1.1 on Galaxy Tab 10.1 and see the same NavBar and this scares me as the default icons on 5.x NavBar are different, even on my Nexus 4 they aren't the Holo Era...

I'm really surprised at you. Schischu is a very reliable friend and developer who has always come through for us. On another thread he has said that he has most of the code done, yet not managed to get the camera working yet. There's no reason why he should lie to us, so you can do one of two or three things.
1. Wait patiently (I did this, even going so far as to buy a new Xoom about two weeks ago). By the way,I just love it. Got it up to speed with CM11 a couple of days ago. CM11 is a very good, very stable Rom.
2. Start coding for the Xoom yourself. I think that you might not be able to get up to speed so very fast as you'd need to.
3. As long as you're rich, buy another tablet and don't worry about the rest of us.

That's my opinion, if you don't like it, it's not my problem. I already use a Rom i built by myself from AOSP code and it's still on 4.1.2 but i'm liking it and still think he can get us a bit more proof than a settings display and as i write before, i saw the Samsung Tab 10.1 5.1.1 and saw the same on-screen controls and they are different than what we have on the Lollipop Source Code...

Opinions are like noses, everyone has one , but not at all of them are very pretty or handsome . You know it dawns on me that since you can write code for the xoom , then perhaps you should write the lollipop code yourself and stop complaining . I'd love to see the fruit of your efforts. No one else has come rushing onto the stage with any pronouncements of a nearly feasible lollipop Rom for the Xoom. At least Schischu is saying that he's working on it. As I said, if you're so smart, then write the code yourself and release it to us as a finished product . It would be nice to have. Again, do something, or sit it out till the next act comes on stage.
In the meantime, I'm using cyanogen mod 11.0 (20141130) , which is an android 4.4.4 clone , very full featured, and capable in the extreme.
As it is , I know the Xoom is not the fastest tablet in the world, and I know there will come a day when I'll be trading up to something different. However, at the moment , I'm very happy with my Xoom, and using it to the greatest possible extent .
I'm not trying to be mean spirited, but only concerned that in your impatience you appear to be so irritating that you may chase off the one real ray of hope we've had on the next generation of Xoom development.
By the way, I'd genuinely love to see what you can do with the lollipop code.
Blessings

Sorry dude, this is not happening... I'm not telling i'm better than Schischu, just want to see more proofs than a Settings/About Screen that can be faked with some changes on Build.prop and Settings.apk resources... i know this as my Xoom is faked as an Xperia Tablet s (SGPT12) so i can download Mortal Kombat X and play on it...
And i think anyone can use the Rom he wants, i'm still on JB 4.1.2 compiled from AOSP and happy with what my Xoom is capable to do with it... so if you are running CM 11, congratulations to you, and why you don't try and start to play with AOSP code and see what you can achieve with it...

I'm not impatient, just asking more proof that Lollipop can actually happen on Xoom, the Real Lollipop as i saw some ROMs that mimics it and just that... by the way i'n not willing to try Lollipop as i'm happy with what i have right now... maybe i port 4.2.2 AOSP to it and nothing else...

What's your bet? Ice Cream Sandwich before or after X-mass for the Tab 10.1?

Technobuffalo has an article quoting Mr. Schmidt of Google saying ICS will be deployed around Oct/Nov. How long till the Tab sees it? Is there even a point if it is mostly going to be based off of honeycomb anyways?

If it doesn't hit the market in any form until November, I think very few existing products will see ICS this year.
Some might, if only so their manufacturers can behave like twelve-year-olds on the internet and jump up and down shouting 'First!' but I think it will come in reasonable time.

I think you're maybe looking at it the wrong way.
It doesn't matter what it's based on, all that matters is that it's the next step forward to an all-round better OS for both phones and tablets.
From what I understand (which is little) the biggest difference we Tablet owners will see will be the availability of more apps (phone apps) scaled up. Along with facial recognition, ability to save web pages for offline viewing, UI changes and scalable widgets.
What great times for Android. One operating system for all and with Amazon offering 50 bucks to developers till November and changes to their appstore coming before their tablet this winter it seems like it is just nonstop good news for Android users.
Sent from xda premium app
Amazon is going to be one hell of a unique fork, OS wise. It should run most regular Android applications, but forget about customizing the UI, and forget about things like application sideloading, Google Music Beta, Google Books, Nook, (or ePubs in general). It'll be locked down tight (bet it won't even have SD card support) and it'll be missing (to some) key features, like cameras and GPS.
Most worrisome of all, if it's a big success and they sell all 5 million they plan on producing this year, it'll FURTHER fragment the Android user base, as developers will need to make stuff for 1.6-2.3 phones/tablets, 3.x tablets, 4.x phones and tablets, and and Amazon's fork of 2.2.
Good news is, if the sales are strong, it'll pull more developers over to the world of Dalvik, and some of that should trickle down to "regular" phones and tablets.

One way or another the Galaxy Tab will have ICS within a month of AOSP release. Maybe not a official Samsung release though!

A Samsung official update? Nooo more like June We may have a CM8 build by Feb, but this is assuming that Google doesn't sit on its hands over the AOSP release. It takes a while for the source to drop
I'm pretty sure when Google releases the source to ICS one of the talented devs on this forum will port an AOSP over to the Galaxy Tab, I don't see why they wouldn't.

i dont want to look like i dont have any faith in our devs but how can you believe they will port the aosp ICS to tab 10.1 when its on even though we dont have any kernel for even p7500 ?
i switched to tab10.1 from xoom for 2 reasons; 1, the screen was better and 2, i believed it would be more populer so it would have more devs than the xoom..
screen is perfect but the number 2 let me down..

There's no guarantee that ICS will offer any real improvement on the Tab, aside from maybe scaling older phone apps better (though 3.2 should fix that).

[Shocked] CM is not listing Galaxy Note ANYWHERE

Hey guys,
I was thinking of selling my Note to by a Nexus (i won it, anyway ) but then i thought, i just have to root it and then wait for CyanogenMod 9 as i just LOVE the size of this thing
Then today was just wanting to check if there is any news, progress or anything about the Note and was really shocked that the al-powerful Note is NOT listed ANYWHERE in Cyanogen site!! Does that mean it's not supported?
I really love CyanogenMod with my old phones and was really keen to have that in this beast hardware!!
Please tell me that i'm missing something and that it's supported!!
It's just impossible for me to live with Samsung's UI and development section doesn't seem as active as the one of my old phone (few users of the phone?) and don't get me wrong Devs, we can't live without you but i mean the sales and support of this phone isn't as i expected for such legendary hardware!!

One day My xperia Arc was not listed on cyanogen mod website, at next day there was a beta STABLE release even with camera working.
So you know, hacksung team and cyanogen are working on CM9 for all devices so dont expect CM7 on the note
I got bored to death with CM ages ago so it doesn't bother me, but I know people do like it, and... I want this to sell, so I do hope CM materalizes on the Note.
It's being worked on by Team Hacksung. It wouldn't even need to be supported by CM as it's the equivalent to the iPad; a giant SGS2.
Oh Cool, Thanks a lot guys... i can mange the time being without CM7 but i just couldn't have handled the missing of CM9 ... thanks for the great news

Thinking ahead

Now that Samsung have released ICS for GS2, and Custom ROMs will now be ICS based (the majority, at least), this leads us to think... are these the last major OS updates Samsung will give our beloved GS2? Will we receive Jelly Bean, or, dare I say.. Key Lime Pie?
No is my guess. We may get a value pack!

Cant believe there is already talk about a next version... I KNEW this would start after the official ICS update would arive. People go crazy for months about something (ICS in this case) and after a few days or a week of having it, start dreaming about the next thing...
The next Android version is not even shown yet. After google shows it, add another 6 months. Then maybe, it will come to our Galaxy S II's.
It really depens on WHAT the next version of Android will be like. Some things may determin if our phone's will officialy get it or not.

Just to add to that people forget that we have at current moment the best ****ing dual core android phone on the market. so if samsung does stop their support we are damn sure that we have the best devs around to still support our phone with whatever OS comes out in the coming year. I hope that there will be still some development from Samsung, because the sources of them improve the developing of alternative Roms for the phones.
If i´m right we can see this by the ICS roms, for example missing kernal sources for video record and still waiting for other sources from samsung for developers.
But i worry about that this will not look like that. Maybe some value pack, like other mentioned.
Recording to the update policy i think maybe should choose a google phone next time ? :/

well people talking about development and saying that in the next year samsung will kinda fade away it's support for the s2 why are you people worrying. if you actually read you guys should know that the first galaxy s1...i mean i go onto the forums over there and they still have enough development still going on. the same goes for here.
yes there is a lot of hype around the galaxy s3 and i am pretty sure that alot of devs can not wait to get their hands on it. but i am still sure that alot of respectful devs will wait around till a phone and handset that is worth going for and that they know they will get support from google itself, to purchase one ie the next Nexus. the development and the manner they get the updates and sources for that handset is brilliant and amazing. so for me by the looks of it my s2 still has plenty of life and i hope i still be here helping people when jelly bean or fruity pebbles comes along..and then when the new nexus comes along i will be buying that to
There's not much to think about now. Seeing how fast mobile phones evolve, the SGS2 might not even have the appropriate hardware for a new OS. I'm thinking full HD and bigger screens, hovering over screen sensors, screen projection, using the phone as a desktop, 3D stuff...
I'm awaiting Ics, and if and when i'm tired of it, I am sure i'm tired of my phone as well and buy a new one. This is a phone for hardware enthusiasts, one and a half years is more than enough for me.

Yes its true that there is still a huge continuing development for SGS1 and there is atm a huge development for SGS2 and i also think that the development will also last very long. Especially because there is enough power in the SGS2 ( Hardware) to get along with further Updates.
So yes i worry that samsung will stop the developing for the phone maybe, but i also know that other DEvs will not

The Google upgrade agreement with all manufacturers is that all phones that are hardware capable will get upgrades for the first eighteen months from date of first sale of the model .

Jellybean before Dec 2012 i would not think so .

I read elsewhere the differences between JB and ICS weren't really large, so it should be "easy" (as easy as something as complex can be ) to port ICS working devices to JB.
I would love that, the longer my phone last, the happyer i am.
Looks like CM already started working on JB
http://androidcommunity.com/cyanogenmod-updates-their-status-on-cm10-jelly-bean-20120710/
which is a good new, I hope, one of our devs will take an interest on porting one to MS2, although it's a little premature for that.

Yeah it's a bit "premature", but we will probably get it in time.
If i'm not mistaken, we had ICS on our phones before the official version was available for MS4.... it speaks a lot of the "proficiency" and understanding of products of Motorola devs...

Well, according to this:http://androidcommunity.com/motorola-promises-unlocked-bootloaders-coming-soon-20120711/
Moto just promised to "try" to unlock BL what they were doing for the last couple of years but time will show, i guess...

I'm always "reassured" by people BUILDING/CREATING AND SELLING PRODUCTS when they explain to you they can "try" to do something that is super easy, and haven't made the slightest progress in 1 year and a half on it.
It makes you want to believe they are able to do more complex things on their products without botching it... not.

We can understand why we won’t be holding our breathes...
Looks like the ball had already started rolling on Defy front
Which is a good sign for Moto community and especially for us. Time to hold your breath.

Or not.
It's not like we don't have our hands full finding new bugs on the CM9 port already... (yeah i know, there is not much, and most of them are known already ).
And there is still quite some functionality of CM9 to be merged too, like themes support and so on.
But yeah, it's a good thing people already started working on JB/CM/10 port (makes you wonder what the overpaid devs working for constructors/operators are doing in their days, since having access to far more than us, and not having to work with the locked bootloader restrictions, they still haven't ported most of their december 2011 devices to ICS... ).
Hell at that rythm, MS2 will have JB before the official ICS hits the MS4...

Gotta love your optimism, buddy
But I think, Alex is doing an amazing job of taking ownership of CM9 and tiding things up. I read on his tweet that he has resloved the flash conflict issue, so we may be getting an update this weekend. (hopefully)
Regarding HW keypad, read your post on CM9 thread, I'll have a look into that when I'll be home and have all my tools. I use qwerty, so I fixed the file for my own convenience to be able to have caps lock on double press of shift button.
But, you're most certainly right, it's not like we will have JB working from day one and it's gonna take a lot of effort by our devs to make MS2 stand tall in front of the big boys lol afterall this is probably the best hw keypad device in the market.
And for now we just can watch closely how thing are developing for Defy

Being optimistic is nice sometimes, and it's quite easy when people like Alex works so fast AND pretty much everything unlock around the same time (in a short time we had the camera, the 720p decoding (and encoding i think) and hwa unlocked for our phones ), but yeah, i know it'll take time, but i'm not in a hurry anyway, my phone is more than usable on a daily basis for what i do, everything else is "added benefits".
For the keyboard, if you can find how to change that, and explain to me how to do it, i would be glad.
do you think there will be ever some release for ms2?

The code is very similar to ICS so the cyanogen team think any phone that can run CM9 will probably be able to run CM10, which is promising

Quarx on Defy front is on fire!!! He managed to make audio work with some help from other devs and also video recording.
I am saying by Friday he will have complete pre-alpha version of CM10 for Defy.
Hard to explain but I am kinda excited, although I get an impression that Defy sees more love from devs than our MS2 and can't find a reason why

That's good news.
Quite some reasons actually for the far more active Defy :
- there is far less versions of it (he don't have like 3/4 versions just for the countries outside the US ), and from what i've read, the Defy is roughly the same everywhere, unlike the Droid2/Droid 2 Global/MS2
- there wasn't the "oops, you can't downgrade anymore" update on it i think
- it's a more "mainstream" phone than the Droid lines (strangely, the phones with hardware keyboards are "niche" phones, wonder why when they are similar in price, size and perfs to non hw ones )
But hey, good thing the MS lines of phones share so much hardware and similarities with other more active phones like Defy/Atrix, makes it easier for us having something working.

Android L?

I haven't seen any posts about it. I am sure our phones can handle it, but are there any devs thinking about working on it? I know someone got the Nexus 4 to boot on L.

Patience.
I guarantee numerous devs will build L for the S4.

Also remember that "L" is a developer preview. It isn't really designed to work - it's designed to show developers what the next version of Android will be like. Very basic things like the API are still changing. Even when an "L" ROM comes out, I would avoid it as a daily driver at all costs until it stabilizes and gets into Beta.

I am aware of all that. I have been watching Android evolve for a few years now. My question was merely why there isn't any talk about it around here from the devs.
I'm hyped for L for the improved battery life.
Well since the Galaxy S3's are getting KitKat, I'm sure we'll be getting Android L when it's stable and released. If anything, we can always get an AOSP Rom
There's no talk because theres nothing to talk about except, "WHERES OUR L UPDATE SAMSUNG?! GOD. YOU TAKE FOR EVER. ANOTHER PHONE HAS IT. GOD I HATE SAMSUNG"
