Chances are that you havent loaded the correct framework
If it is a touchwiz rom (based on stock rom) you also need to load tw-framework using the if command
Also some roms are compiled with framework of a higher version than the rom eg compiled with jellybean framework so load that framework-res instead eg from cm10
But the chances are its because you didnt also load the tw framework from the rom
Also please note that questions should be posted in the question and answe section

Learn how to decompile apks yourself
It's easier doing it on a pc but can also be done on a phone if you don't have a pc
My pc guide can be found in the link in my signature
For phone guide Google search apktool mobile (you need armv6 version)

No - much better to learn how to do it yourself else how are you going to mod it & recompile it or do anything else in the future
If you can't decompile it you are most likely using the wrong framework-res.apk - use framework-res.apk from cm10
Without screenshot of your cmd window I can't see how you are trying to do it
Full guide in my signature - Just use correct framework-res.apk - note just because it's a Gingerbread rom doesn't mean it was built with Gingerbread framework - so if it doesn't decompile use cm10 framework

Recompiling framework-res.apk

I'm trying to modify framework-res.apk and I am able to decompile it. I modified styles.xml and colors.xml. My problem is that I can't compile it back. I'm getting a lot of errors when I try to. I'm using the latest version of apk multi-tool. I'll post the logs later because I'm on phone right now, but anyone has any idea of what might be causing the problem? Any help is appreciated.

umm...I always failed when using stock framework-res.apk. after that I try to copy the same framework-res.apk to c:users/<username>/apktool/framework/ then rename it to 1.apk. I don't know why, but it works.
@evanlocked: I thought both apk manager and apktool are actually same program. the difference is only on its interface. IMO it doesn't matter which one did everyone choose.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was able to compile it successfully with apk manager. Now my problem is that I can't push it via adb. Says no devices found, although when not in recovery it works fine enough. Any ideas or alternative methods to push framework-res?

Make a update script and flash it.
I always use to flash it
& it works awesome

and folder framework-res is empty.
How to solved??
Make sure you're using the most up-to-date apktool and aapt files,
check that you've installed all your framework files before decompiling and
do nothing if you're on 4.2. apktool isn't fully compatible with 4.2. yet.

thanks for the replay,
i try most of apktools,
yeah when i decompile framework-res from 4.1 all working fine, but this one it's from 4.2.

(i just try to make smaller navbar )
I found correct files!!!
Thanks all for help.

He said it's also when no changes are made at all which leads me to think either the wrong framework-res.apk was used to decompile or tw-framework-res.apk also needs to be loaded into Apktool for successful Decompile & Recompile

[Q] Need help with apktool mobile

Hello I want to ask when I tried to decompile via apktool in SGY it shows error . How to fix it? And I tried to import as framework the framework-res.apk, it shows the same error Hellp
since I dont know what the error it is could be 1 of 2 things
1 - apktool is not installed correctly
2 - you are using the wrong framework-res.apk - dont forget most 3rd party apps and some roms system apps are built using jellybean framework
if you get a resources error you are using the wrong framework

I already answered you on the duplicate thread
make sure you have installed apktool mobile correctly
uninstall all what you have done and follow the guide here with the files on that thread

If ur trying to modify system apk, then import the second framework(i.e. twframework-res.apk) too! You should use ics/JB framework as mentioned above to mod 3rd party apps! And, which app are you trying to modify?

[REQUEST] Smaller Navbar

Anyone know of a working smaller navbar mod (not using xposed) that works on MHC19I ? or able to point me in the direction of guide that allows me to attempt to make one myself ?
Looking to stay stock+rooted, rather than a custom rom.
TIA
EDIT - I've modified framework-res.apk for MHC19I - Grab it here. Mod changes navbar to 24 instead of 48 height.
* Backup your original /system/framework-res.apk and replace it with the download.
I'd recommend to flash resurrection remix rom where you can set the navbar to 24dp.

So I've decompiled and made the edit, recompiled and signed the apk, pushed it to my device and replaced the original.. but now it just sits on the bootup logo animination and I cant get past that stage.
Hopefully you have a backup that you can restore. If not, push the stock framework via adb

Much success now.
For anyone interested, I've posted a modded framework-res.apk in OP... Flashable Zip my next project.
