kitkat in the uk at last - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

Kitkat here in the UK at last.
No problems installing.
So far so good, have not noticed much difference yet, but yes it does seem a little smoother.
CNH3 build number like in Germany

I can confirm, I'm in UK also, and I am downloading OTA as we speak!! (slowly)
Funny thing is I checked on KIES and it says no update.

I always have been checking Sammobile website everyday ... what pointless and waste of time as its not even on there either.

Just updated after a tediously slow download.
Now up and running 4.4.2 without any problems. Now to give it a day or so and see how it goes I suppose

I'm getting silky smooth operation so far. About time, I paid enough for this unit so the least they can do is iron out the problems!
Ah well, better late than never as the saying goes.!

Yup, installed it now and performance and navigation is dam fast. Not sure about the battery which many have highlighted as an issue so will keep my eyes peeled on his this one for now.

left mine all night after install used about 2 % so seems better. Certainly not a problem at the moment.

..

So I'm going to install this update tomorrow hopefully. Can anyone let me know if they have encountered any issues with YouTube app, I'm positive some people had issies when they installed kitkat not sure what region it was tbh.
Also have yous encountered any other issues at all yet, big or small?
I'm ever so cautious since I got stung pretty badly with the S3 update many months ago which they had to stop thanks to it being a disgrace of an update.
Thanks in advance.

No problems yet, go for it. Utube is fine.
Still problems with sd card access on some apps.
BS player doesn't work, crashes on start.
ES explorer not writing to sd card either.

Yeah restricted SD card access - We're just going to have to get used to it a guess.
I don't have much apps on my Tablet and I have about 9GB still free on my internal memory so I reckon I'll manage hopefully.

I just save things to phone mem use the built in file manager if I need to move anything onto card. My s5 is kitkat and it's the same deal.
3rd party apps have had their sd card permissions removed, stops apps littering the card with rubbish.

It depends on the user as well. You and a few others might not need SD card permissions but for someone like me with a lot of heavy games, emulator games like ps1, movies/videos and other large apps, a 32GB micro SD is a blessing

Yeah I have a 64GB SD Card and tbh I only have like 10GB worth of stuff on it at the minute. I don't use my tablet to the level I used to, I still use it a LOT but my main uses are surfing the net and LOADS of YouTube.
Although I'm going on Holiday next month so I'm going to tranfer about 50GB worth of HD documentaries and all sorts ... Love the ability to do that.

Some developers have written their apps now with SD card access. It is laziness by some that they have not yet.
See Maps Me for an example of how to do it. They were very quick, a great app.

What on earth!! Just finished work so thought I'd download the update and then install ... says its ganna take an 1hr09 to download just 600MB!! Talk about slow.

It will be, there's thousands of users been waiting forever for it to be released !
In fact, they may well have capped the speed to distribute it fairly. Mine took about an hour.

You never need over 600mb. Honestly, there's no way you need 500 apps+ (which still probably wouldn't fill up 600mb.)
Does anyone think that it would be ok to simply resize rather than wipe/reinstall/reformat to lower size?
I don't think you can. If you could, I wouldn't. Just backup all your data on sdcard, reformat it, then transfer it all back.
It's not too bad.

ROFL I have 512mbs and over 100 apps on my phone.. You should attempt to download the marketplace 1 app at a time and see how many of the 150,000 apps you can fit onto your phone

[Q] a500 memory?

hello I have been looking all over for how to do this or even if I can. I wish to move all my apps I have gotten off the market to my sd card and run them from their also when ever I download a new one they are saved their too. I am wanting to free up some memory. if it can't be done that sucks but oh well.
just rooted my tablet tonight but still using stock rom. thanks
Not possible in HC. Apps2sd doesn't work, maybe it will with ics...but should be a good while before you fill up even the 8gb model. Been some good comments about using GL 2 sd if you play games though.
k wasn't sure I had a buddy that says his Droid phone saves his apparently to his sd. card but I wasn't sure if I could thanks though

yes, it seems to be a honeycomb limitation, and so the droid can run it, since it will be on 2.2 or 2.3 .
Considering ICS combines the phone and tablet OS, it may start working then, or it might work for no one.

[Q] Move to SD Card

I have just moved from the Galaxy S2 across to the brand new S4, and so far it seems great. A really beautiful phone and generally pretty happy.
BUT.....
When I was using the S2, it was a snap to move apps and files across from the phone storage to the SD Card storage. Well, I am stumped as to how to do this with the S4!!!?? It doesn't seem rational to me to have a phone that will allow you to expand the storage with an SD Card, but then not allow you to actually move anything across. That's like Woolworths giving you a shopping trolley and then not allow you to put anything in the trolley?? That is nuts.. So it must be me...
Could anyone out there please give me a heads up on how to move apps across to the SD Card? I only have 16 gig in phone storage and that is getting eaten up real quick with apps and bloatware, so I really need to be able to use the 32 gig SD card I have installed.
Thanks in advance...

The option was removed since Jelly Bean unfortunately.
That's exactly the reason why I don't understand their choice of releasing a 16GB version (of which only 9GB remain usable).
I bought the 32GB S3 for this reason, and I'm waiting for the 32GB version of the S4 as well, if they ever decide to release it.
If you root your device, there are still options like DirectoryBind, but they aren't perfect, and I think we shouldn't have to mess with stuff like that on a flagship device.
Directorybind is broken at the moment. The app foldermount however is very close to fixing this issue.
The developer is working very hard on getting it fixen and is almost there (he's using my phone for debugging)
It seems that samsung has fuzzled it up themself. Not Google.
If you are rooted there still ain't no way to move files to the external sdcard. But it won't be long till that's fixen and that's the good news!

Thanks for that info. I didn't think it was a Jelly Bean issue because the S2 received the JB upgrade and it was still able to transfer to the ext SD card. But obviously it is different for the recent phones. But I don't get it?? Why make a phone that can expand storage through an ext SD Card and then restrict the transfer of apps to that storage?? Is it me or is that a little crazy??

No problem.
I don't get it either.
The microSD slot is great, but advertising it as a replacement of the internal memory is wrong (so many people seem to think they can have a 80GB phone if they add the microSD to their 16GB phone, but don't know the limitations).
32GB should be the minimum internal memory for a 2013 flagship device.

I'm using Android Tuner Free to move big apps (eg games like Deadspace ) across to the SD card. Free app, go into App Mgr, select the app you want to move, click the manage button, choose the move button, select SD-Link. It's working fine for me so far...
The foldermount app should work now on the galaxy s4! Go to his xda topic where you can get the latest version! Yay
You also have to reinstall apps if you want to update them, since the app will not be scripted to support the bind when installing.

Hi the thread already exist please suppress this one and next time search a little there is just two page ...
There are two apps I have used that do this fairly easily. Try either App2SD or Link2SD. Both do the same thing. I also believe AppMonster does, but I've never used it for this purpose. If they say you cannot move an app, it is probably because the MOJO sets the external microSD in a way that it is detected as emulated rather than physical. As I've yet to get a microSD to work at all, I cannot tell what the problem is...I just know from experience on the Acer A700 that -it- is set up so you cannot send apps to the microSD.

Most high end games are 500mb - 1gb or more. I like to play a lot of different games you know? Just kind of sucks that we can't move them to expandable storage at the moment. 16 GB is not going to be enough in the future when more games become compatible.

I'm thinking of buying one in the next couple of days (found new ones for pretty good discount). I've read a lot of reviews and it seems like a good tablet. What do you like and not like about it? I'm mainly going to use it for reading articles, books, and websites and some apps for work. Don't really plan on watching movies or listening to music or playing games on it.
I'd appreciate any input you have. Thanks.

I have no problem reading and/or writing to external SD card.
For me I could read the SD Card without any issues but I could not write to it without rooting the tablet and then installing the following app from the Playstore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
But this is a a KitKat 4.4 issue and not unique to the GPAD 8.3 GPE, all KitKat devices block write access to the SD Cards from what I understand. With the app from the playstore this is easily "fixed" but root is required for the application.
Afterwards you can also use FolderMount (from Playstore) to move large app and data folders to the SD Card as well.
I am very happy with the tablet myself, only regret is that there is not much development but rooted 4.4.4 works great anyway....

Ah good to know. Thanks.
I picked up on the clearance G-Pad's (GPE) and in 4.4.4 I have no trouble read/writing to a brand new Samsung Evo 32GB MicroSD without rooting as of yet. Completely stock.
----
Edit: Oddly, after getting around to unlocking the bootloader and rooting, I actually had to download the KitKat SDFix app and run it to use the sdcard in apps which I did not have to do before unlocking the bootloader and rooting. So... I dunno.
