128 gb card format question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

i have a 128gb micro sd card what should i format it to and what program to use

The S4 only recognizes the FAT and EXFAT file formats. Simply insert your SD card, go to settings, storage, and then SD Card. From there, you can let Android format your card for you.
If you're worried about speed, file formats don't offer much benefit for Android devices.

Does MiniSD card need to be specially formatted?

Right now its FAT, I never formatted it, I just jammed it into the device.
Should I format FAT32? Anyone know?
TIA.
Best to stay FAT if you format to FAT32 your device may not recognize your card. If you ever do format it - do it on the device using storage tools or sktools.
I've used only one of my two 1gb mini-SD's to hold PocketMusic program files and MP3's. I think it was formatted FAT to begin with, but I was unable to copy more than 400mb to the card until I reformatted it to FAT32. It then loaded up with MP3's and there have been no problems. I did the formatting on the PC, not the MDA.
Any card >2gb will require FAT32 formatting, as 2gb is the limit for FAT16.

SD Card problem?

Probably this topic should be in a different place, but In some way is connected to my BA.(Im using xplode's WM6). Ok back to problem. So I have 4gb SD card and I can only copy files on it after format. If I want to add sth on a card files became damaged.(I have only one chance to write files if i want to add sth I need to copy all files back on my pc then foramt card and then copy files back on Card). Problem is connected to my BA because when i copy files on a device and from device on my card(by resco explorer) files are ok(i dont need to format card). So where is the problem??
I wish you understand what I'm talking about
Are you sure you have 4GB SD card and not SDHC? SDHC cards are not supported on BA.
I'm sure. Its weird cause when i copy file from phone memory to storage card files are ok. But whem I'm copying directly from PC to card throug card reader(or wm5torage) files are damaged, unless I make a format but format halps only for one time.
May I know the file system of your SD card?
file system of windows NTFS. System of card FAT32
i had this prob. on my previous card its due to the file format. Beyond 2 gb fat do not works so it goes to fat32 and but these non sdhc card keeps running on fat so this happens. in ideal form the 4gb sd should be 4gb sdhc to work properly.
this causes me to switch to 2 2gb sd card instead of 1 4gb. I also advice u to take backup regularly because u never know when they stop working properly.
so if its file system problem why my 1gb card i working(fat32 as well as 4gb). That could mean that 4gb card is damaged sp why its workin after format and why I can copy from phone without mistakes? Is there any way to change file system on a card? By windows formating i can only format fat32

Well, your should delete all ext2/ext3/ext4 and swap partition in your sd card, there partitions are used in Linux, Windows can't recognize them.
thks antonytyler, when i wanna wipe sd:ext partition stated Error : Run 'wipe ext' via console! i need to wipe by using console or any other way.pls help me.thks.
I'm going to assume you have amon_ra's recovery installed on your g1. Put the old memory card in the phone and reboot to recovery. Go to the partition sdcard menu, then go to the partition sd setting and set both linux swap and ext2 to 0. That will give you back all your missing space.
Also, make sure that the new memory card is class 6 I bought a new Samsung 8GB class 6 with a microsd card reader and a sdcard adapter for $23 shipped to my house from amazon.com. It got to my house last week, and it got here 3 days after i ordered it.
It can do in Windows

I remember that Disk Management in Windows can delete your sd card's ext2/ext3/ext4 partition, you should right click "My computer", select "manage", you will find "disk manage", click the item, you will see the partitions on your sd card, then delete them.
PS: back up your data of your FAT32 partition!

File size on SD card

I got a SD card that I've formatted in my phone but I just tried to copy a movie (a copy of a Blueray I own) of around 6GB to the card but it fails. I then removed the SD card and inserted it into my Windows 10 computer and tried again after which I'm told the file is too big for the file system on the card. There is plenty of free space on the SD card.
Isn't it possible to have large movie files on the SD card? If it is: What is the trick?
Which file system has the SD been formatted with? See the SD Properties in Windows.

The phone always formats to FAT32 - and if I format to NTFS the phone complains that the SD card is damaged and has to be formatted. It can't even read the NTFS formatted card.
FAT32 is limited to 4GB max file size.
You must format the SD card with exFAT, which also Windows reads/formats perfectly.

Great - I'll format my card right away then! Thanks

Mi A1 and SD card

Hi, as you all know Mi A1 supports Micro SD card, but I have question about the file system that it will support. I prefer the phone can use either NTFS or exFAT so that I can put files that is larger than 4GB on the memory card. But seems like the OS can't read both file format, only FAT32. Any idea?
Android OS generally is compatible with exFAT and FAT32.
NTFS is proprietary from Microsoft. So It cannot write to NTFS. (Solutions exist though, not worth the hassles)
More details can be found here.
I insert SanDisk 64GB card, exFAT
FS not recognized
insert the memory card to the phone.. then it'll show do you want to format it, do it..
after it's done, try moving the files you want to the memory card

After format file system is fat32
Try ApoMgr3.
Yes m1a1 will automatically format SD card now use the above to automatically shift your apps to it provided you use a very fast card.
yes, i face same problem. i want copy 6GB size videos to OTG flashdisk, but i didnt support with FAT32, also NTFS and ExFAT didnt support on Android Oreo too. didnt know how to fix.
For ExFAT you need to change the kernel to one that supports that file system.
