In s-pen settings, i have "disable s-pen detection. (keep battery life)"
What does it mean ? What it should do ?
Because when i enable or disable, i dont feel any difference of behavior.
It seems to always detect when i put the Pen off.

Every once in a while your phone checks if the pen is still there I guess? A really must have feature thanks for asking though just turned it off

Thanks

Quite possible that you're right. The S-Pen detection is a feature that keeps the digitiser active even when the s-pen is stored in it's tube. This is why it uses a bit of battery.
Why you might not want to disable it - if you have another s-pen then it doesn't work when the box is ticked. so if you also have another Note series phone or tablet then you can't use the same s-pen for each.
I have the Bluetooth S-Pen (HM5100) and it just doesn't work when the box is ticked.

An S-Pen calibration trick

Once the S-pen did not work properly, so I tried to turn on the auto-rotate feature of the screen, and after that the S-pen works quite well.
I am not sure whether this works for all the cases.

Excellent find dude. I was suffering from inaccuracy of the pen problem. I now enabled auto rotation, tested the pen and disabled it again. The pen is still working fine. So seems like it saved the calibration value.
Thanks again.

I believe this has been reported before. It has something to do with the S-pen thinking you're still in one mode when you shift into the other.

[Q] Alternative ways to turn screen on/off

Hi all,
I'm wondering if there's any alternative ways to put the Nexus 7 (or any Android device I guess) to sleep/wake it up. I'm thinking something along the lines of an app that forces the touch screen to stay active but turns the display off so you can use touch input to activate wake/sleep.
Might be a bit of a stupid question. The reason I ask is because my N7 is mounted in my car and the power button isn't easily accessible.
Cheers for any tips..

Not sure if this helps but I have a case that I bought for my N7 and when I open it and close it the screen turns on and off.
Here it is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ASIN=B008D2POAS&linkCode=as2&tag=newyormus-20

Thanks for that but nah, it's mounted in my car dash so a case won't fit..
But that give me an idea.. does sliding a magnet across a specific point on the screen turn it on/off? That's the idea with the smart cases right?

Yes,
The magnet is somewhere to the bottom left of the device (i would say to about a quarter from bottom up and on the black contour) . If you can add an sliding magnet (make sure is weak) then you can lock/unlock screen.
Nfc tags dude i wonder if they would work

I know some kernels can enable touch wake. I imagine it can incorporated soon. On my Galaxy Nexus, there's an app I downloaded that allowed a specific screen swipe to wake the screen.

That would be awesome. Do you remember the name of the app?

Hey man. I used to have an awesome app on my very first Android tab years ago. It would turn the screen completely black (via home screen or notification icon) without actually putting it to sleep. Because it wasn't really asleep, a double tab would turn the screen back on. I CANNOT FIND IT FOR THE LIFE OF ME! Anyway, after reading your question, I searched for an hour, because I could use something like this for my setup in my car.
So, I found something that turns the screen both on and off, and actually works on my N7. Search for Proximity Screen Off. I installed the free lite version, and it works. I found out the screen won't turn on though, unless you disable your lock screen. Play with the settings to your liking.
Oh, and since we don't have prox sensors, you can use your ambient light sensor. Good luck, lmk if it works for ya.

It's called PGM Nexus. I almost don't want to give up my Galaxy Nexus (but I sadly still plan to) just because of this one app alone...it is so godawful nice to be able to swipe, or simply double tap the screen to fire up the screen. Unfortunately this app apparently requires some deep voodoo to work as its kernel related, and applies strictly to the Galaxy Nexus. I know a bunch of people have already started bugging the developer to make a version for the Nexus 7, I'd suggest piling on. :fingers-crossed:
It's apps like these that make you realize how superior the Nexus devices are at getting really good customized software over other devices.
I do wish there were some other options for the Nexus 7, like using the front camera as a proximity sensor of sorts to detect a handwave, or simply shaking the tablet.

Thanks for that! Appreciate it. I'll give it a try when I get home after work and report back.

Hello. I'm not sure if it helps you, but for turning off screen I use Nova Launcer (alternatively you could use Apex Launcher - as far as I remember, it has gestures in its free version) with Screen Off app by Katecca. I've set Nova Launcher to react to swiping up screen by executing Screen Off app. So I have to turn on screen by pressing button, but to turn off I just swipe up screen.
Best regards,
Artur

Disable stylus

Is there a way via root or ROM to permanently disable the stylus? It's currently causing headaches where if the stylus is in or out of the holder it keeps detecting it being removed and inserted rapidly, causing the keyboard to minimize and to wake itself up from lock.
Is there a way to just straight up disable its ability to know its there? Or make it always thing the stylus is inserted?

You can disable the pop up window in settings. That way it will only show the little stylus icon on the top left corner, and not pop up the app menu.
Also, mine is getting weird too, where it thinks the stylus is removed, even when it isn't. I ended up taking the nose of the stylus apart, backing out the threaded insert in the silver part, then putting it back together. This lengthened the stylus enough that it will register again and solved my problem, at least for now.

Try to disable it in user level software. If you're desperate you could remove the driver being loaded if you have root access. Do a search for any config files that specifically mention the stylus insert sensor. Other words, do some research on what that driver is called if there is one. Don't disable the DirectStylus driver as that may remove touch screen functionality.
Dont think it would remove touch screen functionality:
if you enable the "stylus only" mode, you can still use the screen with your fingernails. anyway, you cant do pinch2zoom gestures with stylus+fingernail in "stylus only" mode, so i guess they got different components running for stylus (wich only accepts 1 input) and finger.
no guarantee, just guessed.
Any solution with this?? It is driving me insane. The thing is that I haven't taken it back to the retailer because my warranty is void (unlocked bootloader) and I wouldn't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for something I could as well fix myself. Any information would be appreciated, cheers.

[Q] S Pen works above the phone

I have a big problem with my Note 4. My S-Pen works when I hold it above my phone and swipe across the screen. It may sound good, but is a big problem when the apps is moved and it is impossible to write something on the keyboard. The phone is not rooted. I bought Note 4 for the sake of the pen so I would like to try being helped and get rid of the problem. Some tips?

Sorry, but I can't understand what did you mean
explain further "when the apps is moved and it is impossible to write something on the keyboard"
If you're still in time to do exchange, just bring it to the store you bought it
Sorry it's hard to describe.
When I hold the S-pen above the letters on the keyboard it writes. I don't need to push the screen. It's like use swipe but not touching the screen. When I point the S-pen at any widget for example on the homescreen the app doesnt open. It moved around instead.
Sensor of pressure is in pen, so try move it a little or slightly pull pin or try to exchange it using provided tool in box. Maybe it's stuck.
I can recreate your situation if I push pin inward with nail 1 cm above screen so it move app icon around.
Perhaps try turning the enhanced sensitivity off.
Hi, perhaps the s-pin tip has gotten locked with dust or something. Se if you can move it and unlock it.

Smart View screen off?

Hi guys,
Is there really no way to turn off the phone screen when using smart view? I've been searching and there doesn't seem to be any threads in regards to the issue, so hopefully I'm just being stupid.
Surely such an obvious feature can't be missing?
Thanks
JamesPBK - Galaxy S8 Duos (64GB)
you need to install smart view app and configure in settings
With the latest android update, while connected to my tv with smart view (Note 8), my phone screen turns off after a few seconds. How can I set this so that it stays on? (I use it for exercise and sometimes want it on tv and sometimes on my phone. I don't want my phone screen to turn off.)
I've a note8 and I want my screen to be off.. somehow even after the update, my screen is still on. Can anyone point me to the right direction on where is the setting for this? Thanks

That is exactly what I also need - Connected with Smart View my Tab S3 Screen should stay ON - can't figure out how to do that. Is there a way?
Screen locks ...goes dim
Launch the app you want to screen cast then swipe down or up on ur screen...the app you are having trouble with is associated with a game booster .
Click on advanced settings of game booster/ launcher and disable "auto screen lock"
Hi, was wondering if anyone had further answers on this. Particularly the screen going off after few minutes whilst using smart view?. I have tab s3 and it does this whilst using zwift, it does not appear to be linked to a game booster or launcher (or j can't find that setting).
The screen doest lock i just need to swipe it to revive it, but i wish it could stay on so i can use both screens ?
Thanks all
Solved
Its seems there is nothing you can do when smart screen is activated. Even the 'screen always on' apps that are out there are ignored while smart screen is active. Also the alwzys on in developer options is ignored.
However i found a solution with an app called Macrodroid. Create a macro to be trigged when smart screen is running , adding always on screen as the action and its working fine :good::good:
I think this would also work in reverse for those of you who are having problem wiyh screen not dimming or going standby

This did not work for me. The Macrodroid isn't even recognizing Smart View being opened.
