So, due to the huge amount of threads with information for the X8 I found, I think getting the info you need is pretty confusing.
Not saying that this is THE guide for everything, but it should sum it all up nicely.
A Warning
First off, let me start by saying that if you don't think you need rooting, don't root.
It can be dangerous if done wrong, so be sure you know what you're doing.
With that out of the way, let's get going then.
Updates and Basebands
First, before you do anything else, you need to update your phone using PC Companion (download here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/pccompanion/xperiax8?cc=us&lc=en). PC Companion will guide you right through all the steps for updating.
The latest version is 2.1.1.A.0.6, and the latest baseband is M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015.
You can check your version by going to Settings -> About Phone.
If you are already running a custom ROM, you should update using PC Companion too, because some roms (like MiniCM) need the latest official version.
Advanced
If you need basebands for your X8, here's a helpful thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976538
Flash them with FlashTool.
Rooting
This is very simple to do, really.
First, download SuperOneClick (thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682) and place it on your desktop.
Next, on your phone, go to Settings -> Applications and enable Unknown Sources. Next, go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and enable USB debugging.
You also need the proper USB drivers. To check if you have them, start SuperOneClick.exe and click Driver Check. If the driver check fails, update your phone with PC Companion.
Now, connect your USB cable from your X8 to your computer. When connected it is VERY IMPORTANT to select CHARGE PHONE. Really, I can't stress this enough.
Start SuperOneClick.exe and just click ROOT. Everything should go normally. You might get a message asking you if your OS is 2.0 or higher, just go ahead and click Yes.
You should now be rooted!
xRecovery
YOU MUST BE ROOTED TO DO THIS
Installing xRecovery is the first step in the world of custom ROMs. Installing xRecovery also means if you are stuck in a bootloop, you can just recover to a working backup.
The first step is to download xRecovery mini-beta 0.1 (any other version WILL NOT work on your X8) (download HERE: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8AJTKDTQ).
Next, download Root Explorer (download HERE: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LGC110EX).
Copy both the xRecovery folder and the Root Explorer .apk to your SD card.
Install any file manager from the Android Market (I recommend OI File Manager or Astro) and use it to browse to the Root Explorer .apk file and install it.
Run Root Explorer, browse to the xRecovery folder and copy the 3 files inside onto the /system/bin folder.
xRecovery is installed. To start xRecovery you press the Back button while the Sony Ericsson logo is showing during boot. Restart your phone and just keep pressing the Back button.
To move around in xRecovery you use the volume buttons, to select an item you press the Home button (the middle one), and to go back you press the Back button. Go ahead and make a backup of your current system (make sure you have at least 300MB of free space on your SD card.
You'll find the backup you just made in the xRecovery/backup folder. Name it something you can identify (don't use spaces). Copy that backup onto somewhere safe on your PC.
Backups are REALLY important, don't be a lazy bum.
So, you bricked your phone.
Don't panic, don't worry, everything is going to be alright. If you have xRecovery installed, just recover the latest backup you made. That simple. If, however, you DON'T have xRecovery installed, we can still recover your dear phone, don't worry
Using PC Companion: Connect your phone to your PC and turn it on. Look around the update phone section of PC Companion for an option called "Repair your phone". Just follow the steps and your phone will be in working order pretty soon
That's about it, I'll probably add a section for custom ROMs in the future, with links to ROMs I recommend.
So, if you have any questions, feel free to post below
Custom ROMs
Alright, when it comes to custom ROMs, it's mainly personal preference. I'll list some ROMs I've tried (and recommend)
For Beginners!
If you're flashing your first custom ROM, and you want a ROM that you can use daily, miniCM is probably your best option. I have tested and can vouch for both of these ROMs.
Floyo 2.2.1 miniCM 1.0.0RC2 by ponanovn (CyanogenMod 6): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964223
Really simple ROM, basically everything you need to get started in the custom ROM world. The fact that it has CyanogenMod 6 is kind of a disadvantage comparing to for example, Racht's or Jerpelea's ROMs (they use CyanogenMod 7).
It features dualtouch which means pinch zoom is working. To activate it, put one finger on the screen then another finger. Then spread your fingers. The SD Card safe to remove bug is finally fixed with the latest revision!
Not working: Compass isn't working, some Bluetooth headsets are bugged.
Rating: [ ]
Floyo 2.2.1 miniCM by lizypen (CyanogenMod 6): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036335
Very easy and very smooth, a perfect ROM for beginners! Battery life is better then average, because it isn't overclocked to an extreme level. Like Ponanovn's rom, it uses CM6.
Not working: Same as ponanovn's miniCM.
Rating: [ ]
More advanced ROMs
These use CyanogenMod 7, and the reason why I say these are more advanced ROMs are that they need a little more configuration to get up and running then these miniCM roms.
Racht's HackDroid GingerBread (CyanogenMod 7): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513
Racht is an amazing cooker, and it really shines through in this ROM. This features GingerBread (Android 2.3.3). It's really nice, it just takes a little bit more configuration.
UPDATE 25/04: Racht updated his rom! No more SD-Card safe to remove crashes, which also means this is the most stable rom to date. Thanks Racht!
Not working: Camera.
Rating: [ ]
I'll add a review of Jerpelea's ROM when I have used it for a little longer
Time for FAQs!
Frequently Asked Questions
This section will (hopefully) answer all your questions related with the X8. If you still have any doubts, go ahead and post here, or send me a PM.
SuperOneClick is stuck at "Waiting for device"!
This is most likely caused by the lack of USB drivers for your X8. Go ahead and click Driver Check in SuperOneClick. If the window that pops up says "No issues found!" the problem is NOT your USB drivers. Otherwise, download PC Companion (which comes with the USB drivers for the X8) right here. Install PC Companion and give your PC a reboot.
I'm working on this section whenever I have time, which doesn't happen a lot, because of school.
This Guide brings you all the a list of all the ROM's floating in this forum.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (D5503) [Amami]
D5503 AIO thread
I just wanted to collect lots of stuff at one place. Did this for my previous phone, and people told me it was very useful.
So thought I'd do the same with my Z1C.
First of all
I am not responsible for ANY bricked device! You are modding your phone at your own risk.
Drivers for ADB and FASTBOOT is essential to almost all modding. Very easily done with: 15 seconds ADB Installer by Snoop05 @ xda
Eventually: Android SDK | Guide by demkantor.
When modding, especially flashing ROMs, stuff might get lost. Backup stuff you want to keep. Easy with tools such as: MyPhoneExplorer, Super Backup, Titanium Backup or others. (Use Google)

If you wish to flash official firmware without using Sony's software, the easiest way in doing so is through obtaining latest firmware with XperiFirm, then make a .ftf-file with FlashTool.
WHY?
- It's easy, fast.
- You can easily change region.
- You can flash older firmwares, SONY's software will only give you the latest.
- You can flash .ftf while offline.
- You can easily create a pre rooted ZIP using PRFCreator
HOW to download stock FW and make .ftf
1.0 | Download and set up XperiFirm, FlashTool.
2.0 | Start Xperifirm. Choose your phone and your cda. Download the firmware to desktop. Choose "unpack automatically".
3.0 | Start FlashTool.
3.1 | Select Tools -> Bundles -> Create
3.2 | Find the folder where you downloaded the firmware. Choose it.
3.3 | The fields "Device", "Branding", and "Version" is simply for the naming of the ftf. I usually fill these out.
3.4 | "No final verification" - I never check this one.
3.3 | Add all elements from the left list to the right.
3.4 | After this click "Create".
3.5 | When done, the ftf is located under ".../FlashTool/Firmwares".
Here is a youtube video guide
HOW to flash .ftf
Flashtool Guide for n00bies by Crowds
HOW to make pre-rooted .zip of any .ftf
1.0 | Download the firmware you want to PreRoot (.ftf). Download latest PRFCreator, SuperSU and NUT Dual Recovery flashable for Z1c
2.0 | Open PRFCreator.
2.1 | "FTF File" -> Load the firmware you want to Pre-Root. Has to be a FTF-file.
2.2 | "SuperSU Zip" -> Load the SuperSU Zip you downloaded from step 1.0
2.3 | "Recovery Zip" -> Load the flashable recovery you downloaded in step 1.0. "ZR-lockeddualrecoveryXXXXXX.flashable.zip".
2.4 | "Extra Zip" -> Here you don't need to add anything. This is only if you want to add more stuff to flash together with your Pre-Rooted firmware.
2.5 | "Include" -> My advice: Include all (Kernel, FOTAKernel, Modem, LTALabel. "Sign ZIP" is not needed, I never use it.
2.6 | Press "Create". The firmware will be made, and placed in the same folder as PRFCreator.exe. It will be named "flashable.zip".
3.0 | Flash it on your already rooted phone, which also already got a custom recovery installed (TWRP/CWM/PhilZ).
HOW to flash pre-rooted.zip
You must already have root, and you must have [NUT]s dual recovery installed, or similar. Use a 3rd party recovery (TWRP/CWM/PhilZ) to flash the ROM.
It will work on both locked and unlocked bootloaders
Stock Kernels (ftf)
- Stock kernels .ftf, includes kernel.sin, loader.sin and rpm.sin.
- Used for older rooting methods, where flashing an old kernel was necessary in order to make the exploit work

[TOOL] XperiFirm ~ Xperia Firmware Downloader & Checker v2.0 credit goes to lagucool

[TOOL] XperiFirm ~ Xperia Firmware Downloader & Checker v2.0 credit goes to lagucool
Inspired by the old and good NaviFirm (Nokia firmware downloader).
Lets you download the current Android firmwares for all Sony and Sony-Ericsson devices.
The screenshots say it all.
REQUIREMENTS:
+ Windows XP SP2 or newer!
+ Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or newer!
+ Flashtool OR Java Runtime Environment:
--- For Windows 32-bit: http://filehippo.com/download_jre_32/
--- For Windows 64-bit: http://filehippo.com/download_jre_64/
* If you have Flashtool installed, just extract XperiFirm's files to Flashtool's folder and run XperiFirm.exe from there. (See screenshot below)
CHANGELOG:
v2.0 [August 3, 2014]:
- FIXED: XperiFirm will now use Java 64-bit in Windows 64-bit.
- NEW: Quickly check the latest firmware versions available for all CDAs of a specific device by pressing "Check All". (Totally kills Xperia Updatechecker, sorry )
- NEW: You can use the Java Runtime Environment bundled with Flashtool, by copying XperiFirm.exe & XperiFirm.jar to Flashtool's folder. [Flashtool + XperiFirm = Perfection]
v1.0 [July 31, 2014]:
- Download firmware for all Sony/Sony-Ericsson Android-based devices.

There is no need for this thread when the original thread is in the Cross Device Development section. If this is not your work than do not post it especially when the thread already exists on XDA.

Developing my own Rom.

Hello!
I'm a Nexus 4 user and I want to try and develop a rom for it.
The device still works good but without much XDA support as it used to be (new roms, updating roms, etc.), I would like to develop a new Rom for the Nexus 4.
I'm familiar with Android Developing but never tried to develop rom or anything like that.
Can someone give me direction on how to start?
How can I add things to the AOSP and edit existing apps or function?
Thanks in advance!
