Need some constructive advice. - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I might get torn apart for bringing this up so go easy on me. I have had my Note 3 for about 2 months. I thought I would get used to the size but I haven't. It's just too big for me for everyday use. So here is my question. I am with Verizon...for the next ~2 yrs. I need advice on which phone on big red is better. I don't argue that the N3 is a great phone. I'm sure many of you have used/tried other phones. Between the S4, One, Moto X and G2. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Honestly, it's all personal preference. Motorola , HTC, and Samsung make pretty solid devices. Its all what you prefer in the way of user interface and features. Do you need to have a removable SD card slot? Do you prefer sense or TouchWiz? All these things will influence an individual user. So the best course of action would be to go to Verizon store and play with each unit and see which unit you like better.

Note 2 alittle smaller

agree with previous post, up to your preference. Or at least need some more input: Do you want the biggest screen you can tolerate? LG G2 is next biggest from the note 3, but should be more manageable. But no sd card.
Personally I won't buy a phone without a removable battery (if hard times comes I want to be able to actaully use a phone in 2-3+ years without charging it eery couple hours) Or one without a micro sd slot (at least until 128gb+ phones are actually available and not too expensive)
for those reasons, I like samsung phones, and the developer support is nice. So I'm rocking a N3, and did have the s4. (before that I used my original galaxy s fascinate for 3+ years. Still have it and it's running 4.4
All that being said, all the phones you mentioned are nice, and each have thier ups and downs.

That's everyone. For me it's tough because they all have pros and cons. I would love a N5 but Verizon is stupid and doesn't carry it.

100% agree. Next best thing is to get a G2, root it and install CM11

I am a big fan of the HTC One. I have used the S4 and although I like it, it didn't feel as good the One to me. The issue you face is the both the S4 and One are aging and HTC is working on the M8 and Samsung on the S5 respectively. To me the Moto X has very lackluster specs and not a phone I would look forward to owning. It is all about personal preference. Decide what factors mean the most to you and pull the trigger.

go for a Moto X
if size is a big bother, I suggest going for a Moto X...the hold and feel of it is superb!

I've played with a few of the phones the Motorola X feels great, I also enjoyed the G2. If you can wait it out a few months the GS3 and HTC One version 2, and GS5 should be out soon you might consider.

I like the g2 but it needs to be running a custom rom, cannot stand lg 's changes
I came from an s3 so the leap to the s4 isn't big enough for me
Love the construction of the one but seems like old news
It's hard to believe I'm saying this but go with the moto x. It feels a lot smaller in hand while still having a decent screen size. The specs are admittedly mid tier but every review I've read seems to indicate the experience transcends the specs. Super cheap right now too (even off contract), only $50 more than the n5
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

do not i repeat DO NOT buy moto x. screen is awful!!! if you care about screen at all dont buy. htc one hands down. i personally dont think at that size point there is anything better. of course g2 has better specs but feels like crap in hand to me and those funky buttons on the back....pass. Htc one gets my vote that is why i am currently using htc one max over note 3 right now. feels better and ui and software is buttery smooth

Hey AJ! I'm going to tell you a quick story before answering your question, so if you just want the answer in my opinion, I'll answer it in the last sentence.
I upgraded from a Razr MAXX to the Note 3, switched to an iPhone for 5 days (hated it more than I expected to, I went in with an open mind), and came back to the Note. It was simply too big for me. I'm left handed, and it's a major pain to try and hit the back key when using it left handed, so I downloaded an Assistive Touch app similar to the one found on iPhone, but having a blob float around the screen just to hit back was also not a reasonable fix for me. I bought a Moto X for Christmas and used it for 3 weeks. I absolutely adored that phone, but the battery life just wasn't enough for me (it's great battery, but so far the Note 3 is the only one comparable to my old Razr). The features on the phone were amazing, and for its specs, performance was unbelievable; in fact, I really shouldn't even say "for its specs," because the phone was SERIOUSLY fast, very, very smooth, and all around a joy to use. I loved the phone, but decided to switch back to the Note because development for that phone is just not moving, and probably won't for a while because of how locked down it is.
Anyway, after coming back to the Note, I was searching through Xposed, and found the Gravity Box (GB) app. My issue with the Note 3's buttons being too hard to reach is remedied by the ability to set button actions through GB. There's an option to set a double tap action! So now when I double tap menu, it acts as the back key, and vice-versa for the back key. That completely fixed my issue, because now I can use the phone 1-handed, and it's perfect for me again.
So, TL;DR: Of all the phones you're looking to switch to, I can personally recommend the Moto X, if you don't mind that there is not much development, and not much prospective development either. But, if you want to stay with the Note, you can remedy some of the issues you have with the "too-big" screen with Xposed and a couple apps like Gravity Box, or an Assistive Touch app.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the input guys. I think I am leaning towards the G2. So I can turn it into a Verizon Nexus 5. With a better camera.

Possibly looking at the GS3, would like some opinions

I have a friend who is letting me use the upgrade on their line at the end of September to get a phone so I can keep my unlimited. As it sits right now I have a Galaxy Nexus. I love the phone but want something with newer tech. I had a few questions though.
The first being battery life of the phone compared to the GNex. I'm not at all satisfied with the performance of the Nexus regarding the battery. I average under 2 hours screen time and medium usage, and that sort of stinks. Since the S3 has the same size battery as my extended I have now, is the batter life good in those regards?
Secondly there are some good looking phones coming down the line. I'm a picky person when it comes to screens. Is the quality good regarding the screen? I have some burn in on my nexus and I don't know how the S3 is. Also, the nexus has an annoying issue where the screen loses sensitivity after a while. Does that happen on the S3 as well?
Would I be better waiting for the Note 2, RAZR maxx HD, or the HTC device or getting the S3?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Here's my personal opinion;
If you're looking for newer tech, why don't you wait for the new Nexus phone(s) coming around December? The S3 is bound to lag behind upcoming phones because technology is moving really fast.
Since the Galaxy S3 has the same screen as the Galaxy Nexus, it is bound to be affected by screen burns after a year or more. The screen quality is excellent but Super AMOLED screens are prone to burn-ins. The Note 2 has a better screen, in my opinion.
The battery life of the S3 is superb! Really. My friend's Nexus doesn't last long at all whilst my S3 can last for a long time!
Stick with the Nexus for now.
Thanks for the honest responses. I wish more companies would follow HTC and use super LCD2, the screen is awesome and crystal clear. I like the note 2 but I fear it might be just too big.

Just wait a bit for the optimus g or a bit more for the new nexus. The sg3 is great, but there are going to be a few better choises very soon, at least hardware-wise. Then razr maxx hd looks promising, It might be a good bet considering the google acquisition of moto...
I have never been a fan of LG, they always seem to be lacking. I heard a rumor about the new nexus being the 5 inch phablet from HTC. Not sure how I feel about having a super big phone. I'll have to check out the note 2 to figure out if I could handle it.

The razr maxx hd looks nice on videos and articles, but Its a bit thick and has a dual core cpu. Lg makes great hardware, but I've never liked the software and slow updates. There are probably going to be other devices with a s4 pro(quadcore) chip soon I would wait and go for one of those.
SGS3 is awesome... Best phone I ever had (and I had quite a few..).
Battery lasts me all day (just email, browsing & reading newsfeeds), no problem. Screen is nice, no complaints. The S3 is just gorgeous and really speedy. I use mine with a 64GB SD-Card, which is the reason why I passed on the GNex.. I need storage space for movies and music!
Best of all, I hook my S3 up to my 42in flatscreen TV (LG), and the picture is nice and crisp...
Did I already suggest you should get an S3 (Quad core)?
Sure, there will always be better & faster phones coming out, but this one just has everything you (probably) want.
Just one thing I really hate about the S3: the physical 'Home' button. HTC did that better on the Rezound (a crappy phone w/ a nice screen...), even though those morons gave it 4 buttons. - How dumb is that?
I certainly will never get another HTC as long as 'Sense' is around - even though I used to root all my phones and put Custom ROMs (preferably CM) on them anyway...
However, I have to admit that after using Samsung TouchWiz (in JB flavor) for the last 6-8 weeks, I have no desire switching to some always half-broken CM ROM anymore.
With TW, at least, all the features work.. right away!!!

Isnt there a new HTC one x5 coming out? (seeing as you said you like htc screens, this ones meant to be 5 inches and full 1080p) could be just a rumour but have a look: http://blog.gsmarena.com/the-htc-5-phablet-to-be-the-google-nexus-5/
I am having this phone and after using a store model I found it pretty smooth.
i have to honestly say this phone is amazing. not a single fault with it.
its heavily supported by the community, paranoid android is amazing too. etc etc etc.
but as always, just look at what you need. theres never any point looking for the greatest tech, because another this or that will come along in a month and be the new 'best'.
for me, external SD card was a must, removable battery is always nice, etc etc.
either take the dive and get an S3 which will be a really really solid phone for the next 12 months and probably longer, or wait another 6 and get the next big thing, be it nexus, galaxy, HTC <insert name here>... but just make sure it does what you need (and with the number of custom roms out there, this is becoming more and more flexible)

Same here, this phone is great, lots of fun and also needed an SD card and battery I could swap. Nothing worse than arriving somewhere and having to wait for the phone to charge!
I was thinking of jumping from the Sensation 4G with Tmo to the GS3 since they are offering an upgrade 2 months early...I think I will stay with my rooted Sensation a bit longer its awesome anyways but I think Tmo will be getting a new line up before Christmas...Im considering the Note 2 but it may be too big Im not sure yet...just dont wanna waste an upgrade and a month later the lastest and greatest hit the market....

A lot comes down to personal preference.
Like the first reply said why not wait until december.
I had the Galaxy S3 and I hated it.
Found it very uncomfortable to use. Impossible to operate in one had. I would try it out yourself, i wish i did, its not as smooth as everyone makes out. However, i was advised to do lots of things to it which would have made it smooth like rooting etc (i couldn't be bothered with the hassle of that)
Screen is very good but not as good as other phones and its really bad in sunlight. Almost unusable.
Dont know what battery other people have got but its not very good. You wouldn't get through a day with it thats for sure. Android fans had a tough time over the years with battery but this is an improvement.
Also, the device is not very pretty as others seem to think. Again this is personal preference. Its very plasticy and flimsy. One drop and its dead. Poor build quality.
As you can see my post is very negative due to the experience I had with it. Personally, if your an android fan wait til december.

An opinion, that most people do not share. I would just wait for the next Nexus or look at what HTC is brining out. Something tells me the new Nexus phone may be a disappointment, I do hope I'm wrong though

To get the Razr MAXX HD or something else?

My digitizer just died on my HTC One X and bought it out right and looking to get a new phone. I found out I was approved for a concession line at work so I am looking for a new phone on Verizon. The Motorola Maxx HD just came out, the S3 has been out for a while, and the Note 2 just came out. I am trying to decide between each, and are wondering yall’s recommendation. I like the S3 and its size, and how there is a lot of development of it. The Maxx HD has epic batter life and I like the design and materials used and the note 2 I love the screen size. I am trying to decide between which. Give me your comments!
I sold my S3 and kept the Razr HD for the feel and build. Plus I love the Moto UI, or lack there of. The s3 does have more development and a better camera, but the battery trade off is worth it to me for the Razr. Both work with a 64gb micro sd. The Note 2 I can't comment much on, I've had no interest in a screen that big
I agree with derty - what Moto has done with Blur is awesome! Not too intrusive yet it has some very useful features. I played with both the S3 and Note 2 in the stores and, for me, TouchWiz is just WAY too much! Cumbersome and extremely intrusive ... it almost appears to completely overwrite the base Android OS.
The battery is unmatched IMO - it is mind boggling what this thing can do!
Connectivity is awesome - strong 4G, fast WiFi to 4G handoffs and great call quality.
The build quality is second to none! Feels sturdy and stout but still feels good in-hand.
I am very happy with my choice ...
~~ Tapped from the 7th dimension~~
Just to add, yes the SG3 has.more development but its been out much longer. Between the build quality, the battery life and the future the HD is the way to go IMO.

I use Motorola products, last four phones were Motorola Androids but I do look around, even checked the iphone a few times. I didn't like the last two Samsung phones I tried, one I used for 10 days, the other I didn't take home, just used in the store (felt cheap, low volume). We're so close to seeing what Google is launching, I'd wait. The problem (at least I think its a problem) is with Verizon, the time it takes to get updates is very long, even bug fixes. Nexus device updates are delayed on Verizon but at least you'll see these while Motorola you'll see maybe 2-3 for the life of the phone this includes bug fixes, not only OS upgrades.
I have the RAZR M and it is a really nice phone but unlike you I'd rather have the smaller form. I had always used two batteries so if you get the Note, just plan on keeping a second battery with you. For me if was as natural as taking my wallet and it fit nicely in my watch pocket in my jeans, no big deal. With the RAZR M I don't get all day battery life, I get about 8 hours off the charger. When the Maxx was updated to ICS battery like took a hit, maybe 8-10 hours at most. I use about 90-120 minutes of phone time a day and what I would call moderate use during the day; no streaming, listening to stored media or games.
I haven't been disappointed in the build quality of Motorola phones, they sound good, no real signal problems and are loud enough on the streets of NYC to hear a conversation over the drone of construction, traffic and crowds. But what would you expect to hear in a Motorola forum
I'm pretty much set on either Nexus models or "Developer Editions" right now. I pay full price anyway to keep unlimited data.

I'd suggest you the note 2 if you can stand big display , it has great removable battery, good non-pentile screen , best audio quality on a smartphone, great specs (quad and 2gb of ram) and the spen.... I'm not a Samsung fan but the note 2 is really great, but if you prefer smaller screen is suggest you the Maxx as it has great built quality, best battery life.

Hard to suggest against this beast of a phone. That Note 2 does look very nice though...
I was planning on the LG Nexus, but no LTE is a hands down deal killer.
I was thinking of the Note 2, but that stupid menu button and Touchwiz really bothers me.
It's a shame this phone does not have an unlocked bootloader, but that's Verizons doing.
Hmmm.. Decisions decisions...

True, but I would really like the Maxx unlocked. I'm a die hard android fan.. my only gripe is battery life. That bigger battery would be awesome.
I'm so sick of plugging my phone in to sip power everywhere. That big battery should help.
Also, the development community will be fairly small with this device.
It still kills me the Nexus 4 does not have LTE.. Very Apple like for Google.

I'm looking at the HD Maxx as well. My only remaining complaint with my GNex is the battery life. Kinda stinks when your out at faires or conventions and you want to take pictures with your phone, but the event lasts all day and you need Navigation to get home after. I'm sick of carrying around two batteries.

I feel ya on that...in fact that was the MAIN reason I grabbed the Maxx. I took my daughters to the Justin Bieber concert two weeks ago...and they were happy, smiling...it was nice. Snapped a few pics with my One X. Pics came out beautifully. Then not even half way through the show, I go to take another pic and I noticed I had little to no battery left. I had to turn the phone off. So because of the battery being almost completely dead, I couldn't snap no where near as many pics as I had wanted. So to have this phone with this big battery is nice imo

Is it actually worth it?

I'm considering the nexus as my replacement for my HTC one x. Is it worth it as it costs 4398 HKD ~550USD here?

I don't know if it's THAT much of a step up from a One X...I might actually prefer my One X+ to the N4...but that's still up for some testing, but right now I'm leaning towards the OX+.
Nexus 4 isn't really much of a hardware upgrade, if any, but it enjoys unprecedented firmware support. Good luck getting any new versions of android on the one x. If you want your updates quickly then the nexus it's the only choice.

I went from the HTC One X to the Nexus 4...
Eh
I don't think it is a huge step up from the One X. The processor may be faster but the S4 in the One X is mighty quick in its own right. You barely even notice the extra gig of RAM too. I don't know how gaming is affected because i barely ever game on my smartphone so i wont comment on that aspect. I'm in Canada so i get LTE on my Nexus 4 but the One X had LTE too so no change there. Both have 16gb of space. The recovery is a preference issue as i prefer the CWM to TWRP which the One X needs to use (CWM doesn't run properly on it).
Camera is downright a thing i miss though. The One X has a fantastic camera better than the Nexus, hell its better than most any other smartphone. And the screen itself is far better than anything on the market (Nexus 4's is not as bright). Its blacks were far darker than the Nexus. But neither are as nice as an AMOLED screen.
The physical feel is also a personal preference where i loved the polycarbonate soft touch feel of the One X over the glass of the Nexus. I never used a case with the One X whereas with the Nexus i need one. The unibody construction HTC has got down to an art...i hope the next nexus is an HTC (or a Sony but that's another topic).
There are many issues but if i had to go back and give myself advice i would tell me to stick to the One X.

I've got both and I prefer the One X the screen is much better, camera is much better, Sense has some excellent features missing on stock android. Both are good phones though, if you want the latest software stick with the Nexus but if you enjoy Sense and that stick with the One X.

I'm using the international variant of the One X, with Tegra 3. Most Gameloft games are either incompatible or running badly, and the CPU governor is to powersaving. However, I do love Sense, but I don't like the speed of updates as well and I game a lot. The 16 GBs aren't really that much so I'm really thinking about it since I will trade in my One X for the Nexus 4.
You just making this thread is just simply making an excuse to justify upgrading so you don't feel as bad for spending money towards a new phone.
Don't think about it, just be about it and buy it. Otherwise you're just going to be obsessed about it and end up buying the phone two weeks later. It always happens to me, "I will not do it" but yet I keep looking at the forums and look what happens..... It happened.

No idea. In psychology class I learned people make threads like this to justify their purchases because they feel better about themselves for whatever purchases they make that aren't necessarily a necessity purchase.
If you want the phone, buy it. We shouldn't have to convince you otherwise. It's as simple as that. Do your own research and determine what you want. If you made the thread in the Galaxy S3 forums with the same posting, they'd tell you to get the S3. All you're going to get here are biased posts. It's one sided, op wants to feel better and more confident in his purchase

ever hear of the saying 'you get what you pay for'? there is a reason this phone is only 300 bucks. if you are paying 550 equivalent.... you dont want this phone over the hox.

Well, TBH, some people did say not to get the N4 as the HOX is almost the same/better. I'm not gonna get it as its freaking expensive and from what I know has some serious GPU throttling issues.

"SOME" ....... it's like going to a gang territory, "is this gang better than THIS OTHER GANG?"
are the gangsters going to say that the other gang is better? hell no... they would obviously say theirs is the best to have more members. its biased and common sense. if i was going to post in the one x forum saying, one x or gs3? one x or n4? ... they would say one x.
you're paying more than what the phone is sold for, $299-$349 is the default price via Google Play. if you buy it from eBay / etc, its ~$529ish as any other off contract device.
GPU throttling issue: it isnt an issue. its done that way by default as it is on the Galaxy Nexus. who cares about benchmarks. just DO WHAT YOU WANT / LIKE. if you like your one x, then stick with it. just at the origination of your OP post you didnt like the one x.
its really YOUR decision and none of ours. im not going to beg you to get the phone, its your decision and your money. spend it how you like, that's all i have to say. i dont get any of these "worth it" threads. its obviously something thats going on in your head. if you're looking for opinions then read reviews about the phone or use the search feature and look up people's reviews / opinions about the phone in 10+ other threads before having to make your own for attention on whether you should get it or not.
The Nexus 4 is just a much better device than the HOX, even if they were both the same price. I honestly haven't looked back and am so glad I sold it to cover the cost of my Nexus. Things I don't miss about my One X:
Awful battery life - I get 5 hours on screen time with my Nexus and easily lasts a day, my One X was dead at about 2 hours screen time and needed to be charged twice a day at least.
The heat/ Tegra 3 - Tegra is just an awful CPU end of. My One X would get so hot from general use, JUST listening to music with the phone turned off 45C, browsing 50C, playing games 50C+. My Nexus doesn't hit more than 35C normal use and 40C under heavy use.
The lag - Sense as a launcher is laggy, but I fixed that with Apex, but even then it wasn't buttery smooth around the OS. So I installed a JB CN10 ROM and it was pretty much buttery smooth. However after using the nexus 4 for a bit and you notice what real speed and smoothness is about.
Multitasking - Plain and simple, the One X cant really multi task. It's a mess. Just watching app redraws constantly got annoying. What I will say is that having the soft keys has increased the amount of times I use the task switcher because it's so effortless and smooth. This is probably something you won't appreciate till you have soft keys.
Locked bootloader - Yes you can unlock it, but through HTC so it means that HTC can simply wave away your warranty now.
There are good things about the One X, it's screen is still the best and depending on preference the design is nice. However comparing them side to side one thing is obvious, the Nexus looks and feels like a grown ups premium device, the sort of feeling you get when hold an iphone (I think we all get that feeling, lets not deny it).The One X is designed very well, and best out of other android devices, but you never get the premium feel. Also the camera on the Nexus 4 so far, has been pretty much garbage under low light conditions.
Only, and I really mean this, keep the One X if you really like HTC sense!
The only reason I would suggest making that jump is if you REALLY want a Nexus for the great platform openness. The One X is a good phone still.

Anyone switching from Galaxy s4 to Lg G2?

Anyone switched from Galaxy s4 to Lg G2? What is the experience? How it feels? Pros and cons.

I didn't come right from the s4 I had some other phones in between but.. almost identical in size... similar features plus some... no lag even with the bloat.. ips LCD is soon much nicer than amoled imo... for me a huge thing is being able to turn fast dormancy off which never actually stuck on my s4
Haven't found any cons yet
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk 4
I'm coming straight from it, I just sold my S4 last night. This phone is better in every way imo. It is about the same size but a little bit thicker so it feels better in the hand to me. The ips lcd screen is much better to me. It's much brighter and much brighter whites and more accurate colors. When I looked side by side, I realized how bad the screen on the S4 really looks.
I also feel that the software is very similar but it doesn't lag like touchwiz does. It is also has great features that are actually useful. I found myself never using most of the features on my S4.
I love the software customization options too. It makes me feel like I don't even need a custom rom. The camera is nice as well. I have gotten some nice shots so far.
All in all, this phone has been a great experience and I highly recommend it over the S4.

I will go from the s3 to either the G2 or Nexus 5. The G2 looks very promising. Hopefully sprint gets both phones around the same time so I can compare them side by side.

I traded my week old S4 yesterday for the G2. Extremely impressed. Ran the battery down last night so I'm doing the first full recharge now, but this thing is fast and slick. Screen can't be beat. I'll be in the mountains later taking pictures to test out the camera but my first few last night came out great.
No regrets here. We're going to get along great.

I am going to switch from S4 to G2 if the AT&T models boot loader can be unlocked or of any other model that will work on LTE with AT&T that the boot loader can be unlocked. I want AOSP on the G2. The LG software is horrible.

I just got the att version about 2 days ago, switching from an st and I have to say I'm pleased.
PRO's:
Great battery life
UI seems to fly compared to S4 even though they both used about the same amount of ram stock and not rooted
Screen is great. Loving the customization with on screen buttons
It doesn't seem to get anywhere as hot as my s4
There are more pros but my final one I'll mention is the buttons on the back. No accidental bumps hitting the power button holding the phone in landscape
CONS:
Phone is slippery
Concern for update support from lg

Cons: locked bootloader.

Got the G2 on launch day, came from the GT-I9500. So far I can't think of a single con or regret. My only worry is AOSP dev support. (which is one of the reasons I left the octa GS4)
The G2 seems better in every single aspect thus far for me. (the screens are a matter of opinion of course)
Right now I have the S4 an G2. I'm a pretty big Samsung homer and have had the nexus, S3, Note and Note . I work for Verizon, so it's easy for me to get anything I want cheaply. My last lg was the G2x on T-Mobile. I swore I would never use one again after that nightmare! With all that said I love this phone. Battery life is sick, screen is amazing, no lag...just smooth as butter. I find myself using the knock feature all the time. The two things that are holding me back from keeping it are probably the same for just about everyone else. No SD card or removable battery. I put a ton of stuff on my phone from torrents and stream it to my TV. I think the answer might be, sell the S4 keep the G2 and grab a note 3 at launch. not sure my wife will agree with this solution however

Just picked up my VZW G2. I have a loki'd S4 and I'm happy with it. I run PACman on it and really have no issues but I'm a phone junky. I pay full price to maintain my unlimited data so I get a lot of sh*t from people when they see I have a new one but whatever. So far, I love it. Really disappointed the double tap to turn screen off doesn't work on nova launcher but not surprised. Still works turning it on but not of.
I do like the G2. It really feels a lot like my S4 so I'm already used to the feel. A little hard to get used to buttons but that doesn't bother me a bit. The screen Is amazing and I don't have to worry about screen burn in like I had on my S4. I've hidden my soft keys and an using pie... I want my whole screen. I'm keeping my S4 no matter what. As far as the G2, I really hope the Dev community gets into this device. The only thing I missed from TW, was the camera. So went AOSP pretty fast and never really looked back. However, on this device, I'd love to see some way to have the double tap to turn off work on different launchers. Again, I hope the Devs work on this bad boy.
Ultimately, I'll have to play with this a bit longer and see what happens with development, then, I'll decide if this goes on eBay. If the Nexus 5 comes to VZW (yes I know but some rumors say it might but I'm not holding breath) and I get the moto X through work, I'll keep it any way.

Double tap to turn off screen in third party launchers
I had the s4 for a couple days & switched to the G2..
The G2 feels a lot smoother when running vs TW on the S4. The S4 did have a bunch of other sensors (like the front IR for air gestures) - but I honestly don't see myself using them.
My biggest concerns were non-removable battery, no micro sd and how good the radio was. When I checked it out at the store, the G2 had marginally better signal strength. Microsd is solved with a cheap usb/microsd otg cable, and after thinking about it, the battery isn't that much of an issue for me. Plus the G2 has wireless charging - picked up 2 nokia dt-900's for $25 shipped
The G2 is solid!
I run nova prime and my double tap the status bar to turn the screen off works.

Gotta say I'm loving this phone..more than my old s4 and HTC one!!

I am a very picky phone owner, let me just say that right away. I always have a different phone cause I need to have the latest and greatest. After having the moto x I truly feel as if this is the best overall phone out right now for me.
The s4 was just too damn big and I felt like I always need to use both hands to do anything. Sure the camera was nice but it my daily use its not as big a difference as people make it out too be. Battery was OK, but my x is way better!!
The htc one def has the nicest screen out. But unless your staring at both of these phones side by side the difference is negligible. The camera on the one was absolutely horrible no matter what the conditions! Blurry and over processed colors. Battery life was good but again the x is way better.
I think that overall for what I use the phone for, the x is gonna be with me for a while. I love the size!!! Feel perfect, a good size screen and yet I don't need two hands to always use it. The active notifications are awesome!! Screen is good for me, I'm not one to purposely stare at the screen to try and see if I can see pixels etc. Battery life is awesome, I'm easily getting 4+ hours of screen on time. The camera is not nearly as bad as most reviews report, in my findings. Yes the s4 is better but the moto x holds its own!
I'd like more dev support cause I'm a crackflasher. I'm sure it will come. But if it doesn't happen I'm OK with it because the phone is pretty much the way I'd want a ROM to be anyways.
^^^^ i agree
^^^^^^ I agree x2
As someone who was a hardcore flashaholic this is the first phone I've had that I don't feel the need to immediately load a new ROM onto.
Agreed - I've had tons of android phones (G1, G2, evo and evo 3d, moto backflip, droid and droid 3, galaxy S2, nexus 1, nexus S, gnex, and even the kyocera echo), but once I went to an iphone 5, I swore I'd never go back.
Once ios7 was out though, android started looking more appealing to me again. Moto X is the phone that brought me back! I've gone to the store multiple times to play with the GS4 and the HTC one, but I could never pull the trigger.
The Moto X is the phone that brought me back to android. I love it

I'm glad I'm not the only one. MOTO X is nice.
This phone with a few tweaks with Xposed is really really great. Battery is stellar. The camera is not the best however once the software is fixed it will be fine. The only thing I'm missing is t9 dialer. I'll find a way to push the CM apk.

I agree. I also tend to always have the latest and greatest and waffle between ios and android. Most recently I came from the HTC One Developer Edition and although I really liked that phone the Moto X is much better for me. The ergonomics are just great, not much bigger than an iphone 5, and the battery is very good. The active notifications are just brilliant and with them I rarely need to use the power button, just a quick swipe and I'm were I need to be. Killer phone.
Agreed. I had the HTC One and then the GS4 Active shortly after that and now I have the Moto X. This thing runs circles around both those phones in every regard. Don't miss a single thing about either of them.

Im also very picky in how I like my phone look and function both hardware/software. im still waiting for my moto x to get unlocked But so far I still need a new ROM.
Need to remove att garbage
Need quick toggles to be customizable. Add WiFi tethering/ flashlight etc. Also don't like how single click takes you to the menu on a specific toggle instead holding it toggles the feature.
Would like paranoid ROM, halo is a nice feature I got used to on my nexus 4
Id settle for quick toggles fix and halo (not that I have a choice) STOP SAYING YOU DONT NEED ROMS!!
That being said I like how minimalistic (ROM) Motorola is now and see myself buying more of their devices. Personally hate Samsung galaxy series. There is no need for a physical buttons on screen is the way to go.
Hope the moto x gets some good people working on Roms. I love the size of this phone and really want to stop jumping from phone to phone chasing that perfect combination. But my guess is the grass will always seems to be greener on the other side......nexus 5.

The icons and fonts are much smaller than a s4 screen. Especially when you factor in the on screen buttons the actual usable screen is much less than than I was expecting. In fact I am not to sure if it is much bigger than my iPhone 5.

After soft bricking my GS4, I had to get a new phone while i work on that. I had been eyeing the Moto X and it was cheap. But now that i have been playing with it for a few days, its great. For me the Software is great, I love the voice commands, coming from an iphone i sorely missed siri and I feel that Moto X realy handles this better then the GS4.
As for hardware, I miss my GS4. The bigger screen was nice, and I loved the IR blaster.
If I could get the Moto X Rom on to the GS4 ( after I unbrick it) that would be ideal.
I've been looking at this phone but the fact is Nexus 5 will be a better device in terms of hardware, software and future updates.
Also I love the people here saying this is the best phone they've ever used. I think they copy paste that from their post on their prior phones.
I'm sure moto x is a great phone but its momentary. When you get your next phone that'll be the best one yet.
Prove me wrong, keep your moto x for 1 year and I'll be impressed. Doubt many of you in this forum will do that.
