Just some information - G Pad 8.3 General

Not sure if this belongs in here or not. I had the white G Pad and traded it in for the black one because I think the screen looks nicer surround be black. When I turned it on I noticed it seemed much dimmer than my previous one, even at the same brightness levels. I went ahead and rooted it but then restored it fully intending to return it today. Once I restored it and rebooted it to set everything up, I noticed that it seemed much brighter than before I restored it. Not sure if it means anything but it seems that flashing the stock factory image made the screen brightness much better. Just thought I would contribute this.

So then why are you returning it?

I was going to return it after restoring it until I saw that the screen looked better after restoring

Fried Screen on my Fascinate via Voodoo Color or Glitch

I am fairly sure that Voodoo color and the Glitch screen modifications fried my screen this weekend. This is just a warning that full brightness with modified firmware may possibly physically damage your phone.
Process for what killed mine:
Installed CM7.2 RC
Installed Glitch 13.1
Installed Voodoo Control Plus
Set color profile to the more vivid one (don't remember which)
Set auto brightness, 60 screen for dark, 190 for bright setting
Installed QuickPic
Set option for "Max brightness when viewing"
View a 2 bit color image (pure white, pure black). Noticed wavy lines in the white sections. Double checked that I was not over clocked, or undervolted, all factory settings.
Return to viewing image again at full brightness, holding up to eyes inspecting it, screen turns itself off. Never to turn on again. Phone boots, receives calls, everything is functional except no life from the screen. Odin back to stock worked fine, but screen still dead.
Posted in General because the warning scared me. *shrug* Move if needed please.
I farted that day. I think that had as much to do with your screen dying as anything you just mentioned.

gs3 problems.

I know its only been out for a day and almost no one has this thing but what problems have you noticed with this device? Just want to watch out for particular stuff when buying this device (dead pixel, static during call, etc.). Please post things that you've seen with this device

it's NOT free
it DOESN'T print money
and it DOESN'T make you breakfast in the morning
I agree^
I'm not a big fan of their end of call screen but other than that, so far so good
I don't want to make this seem like it's perfect but to date I only have one complaint with mine. It gets real hot at times during what I deem normal usage. But it occurs sporadically so I'm not overly concerned yet.
XDA Mobile
I've seen some complaints about dead pixels and what not but its so hard to find one of these.

I've been getting some FC when trying to set up google voice.
The autobrightness is a bit useless. Thats about the worse thing so far.
Is the outdoor visibility decent?

Every phone I've had the auto-brightness sucked. I turn it off immediately.
I'm seeing ink type blotches at night (on certain areas of the screen) when the backlight is turned down low, Screen Filter is on and NewsRob is in "night" mode.
Daytime use is fine and blacks are blotch free.
I'm deciding if I should return the phone, but am pretty sure that a replacement would have a similar defect. I'm thinking I'll just keep it.
Coming from an HTC Amaze (expensive mistake, but developers did an amazing job) and prior to that, a Vibrant, I can already tell that this phone is a nice piece of work.

sounds like you are having that pixel issue. people here are saying in a dark room that pixels will show lines or something while the screen is black. if you are experiencing this, then just return the phone because its a screen defect.
I have been suffering from some serious network slowdowns with full 4g signal bars. Both while driving and stationary in places where my vibrant had no issues at all. Speed tests have shown max download speeds of 50kbps and up of about 160. The issue occurred before I rooted it. I regret rooting it now and will wait to unroot it safely before nagging t-mobile about it.
Has anybody else noticed this behavior?

I dont have a gs3 yet but with most Samsungs if you turn off the autobrightness you can manually control it by sliding your finger along the status bar. This can lead to some pretty dramatic battery savings if you keep it dim unless you need to raise it.

That was my favorite feature of touchwiz, and for some reason they took it out for the S3

Perhaps they're reframing or upgrading the cell towers I'm most worried about the screen. There's so way to get a replacement if I get my hands on one.

I was able to get my phone on Wednesday, and I used it all Wednesday night, Thursday & Friday with S-Voice working sporadically. It would get what I said right, but would not respond? Then after 10-20 different commands, it would start trying to carry them all out & would get all jumbled? I did a factory reset this morning & intentionally used it for anything possible all day. It carried out almost every action flawlessly on the first attempt. I'm in my vehicle a lot, so I'm a heavy voice command user, and I've always used vlingo in the past with good results. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but I think it was some type of network error. Maybe it's linked to a server & there was a problem tied into that? All is well now though, and since it's functioning properly, I took the plunge into root!

There's an app called Display Brightness in the market which will do the job.

[Q] Why did I lose screen brightness/colour after flashing?

Hi Guys
I got myself a LG G2 (d802 international) yesterday and after playing around with the stock LG software for 10mins before rooting/roming.
During this 10minute play around I was blown away by the G2's screen it was bright/colourful and crisp. I had two Nexus 5's next to it which also looked similar/great.
However since flashing the Roms (2 CM nightlies and Paranoid Android) my screen looks pretty bad. It's dull and dark and now looks really bad when next to the N5's and my old Note 2.
I played around with CM's autobrightness settings and even installed some alternate LUX brightness apps off the store. However it still looks poor.
Has anyone else noticed anything similar? I'm thinking of reflashing the stock ROM tonight to see if I get the brilliant screen back but I'd much rather stay with AOSP in the long run.
Cheers.
LG made a lot of software screen calibrations. These will be lost when not on a stock based rom.

Ahh ok bummer, so looks like it's a bit of a compromised choice to make.
I'm suprised no one else really seemed to phased about it in the development threads as it was the first thing I noticed on the first reboot.
Back on my Note 2 there was custom kernels which included display tweaks, I'm presuming something similar may evolve in G2 land?
I believe there is colour control in wootever kernel.

[Q] Brightness changing automatically on GPE

I got my GPE yesterday and while setting it up, I noticed that the brightness would change on its own intermittently from the same bright white that I have on the LGE I picked up last weekend to something like what folks are describing as the more yellow-tinted display on other threads. Note that I do *not* have auto-brightness enabled! This is happening when I have the brightness cranked all the way up to 100% without auto-brightness.
If the screen were yellow-tinted all the time, I'd think it's the same issue others are reporting, but since it does vary between the two randomly, I'm thinking/hoping that it's software and not a hardware issue. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? If so, does anyone know of a way to lock it in on the brighter/whiter setting?
My GPE is doing the same. Brightness will either dim or brighten on its own. It's a very subtle change, but definitely noticeable. Also its very intermittent and I've only noticed it in chrome, Google now. I also have auto brightness disabled and brightness at or near 100%.

I contacted Google support and they're sending me a replacement. I'll post here as to whether that solves the problem or not.
Just got my replacement for the exact same issue. Unfortunately the new tablet does the exact same thing. I originally had the LG version and never had this problem. Only in the GPE edition.

Exact same experience here. My Galaxy S4 does something similar. I found one thread the other day saying that Android lowers the brightness automatically when the device temperature hits a certain level (95F, maybe?). I've never seen this on my other Android devices, but I'm kind of resigned to this being the case. It's really my only nit with an otherwise outstanding device, so I guess I'll live with it.

Second Screen Burn-In?!

I just noticed that my second screen has burn-in/ghosting of the two quick settings that I have turned on most frequently. I booted into TWRP in order to flash a new kernel and that's when I noticed it. Anyone else experience the same?
To be quite honest, I don't really care much, considering I preordered the Galaxy S8+ a few hours ago. Just surprised me.
At times it shows what looks like a burn in but only shows in TWRP for some reason.
I've only seen it once for me and Everytime after the first time I've yet to see it again in TWRP or in the rom.

Actually mine is showing now in the ROM. But only if I'm using a substratum theme that themes the second screen too.
