Thinking of returning my Note 8, have a few ?? - G Pad 8.3 General

I have the Note 8 and I am thinking of returning it for the G Pad.
A few questions that I have. I see people talking about issues with the brightness, does anyone have issues with how bright/dim the screen is?
How as your batter life been on the stock UI? I don't plan to root/rom.
If anyone has gone from the 8 to the G Pad, what's your experience been?
Thanks for any advice!!

G pad is in fact much dimmer comparing to f. ex nexus7 II or Galaxy tab/note, it is clearly seen while comparing white colour simultaneously. I find it particularly problematic, without this issue I would have no doubts in naming the g pad the best tablet ever created, oh well . But still, the brightness is totally enough for constable usage, I think it's a matter of getting used to, that's all. In home the screen is very impressive

Totally agree. After comparing the G Pad 8.3 and Nexus 7 2 brightness levels and colours on lower brightness, I decided not to go for the 8.3 yet. Although the screen dimensions and the device itself are great, the brightness, yelowish screen at low brightness and battery life scared me of. I will wait a bit for a better 8 inch device or a new 8.3 version with better screen specs.

I sent my Note 8.0 back and will keep the Gpad. I didn't find the battery life on the Note significantly better than the LG. The yellow screen tint is easily solved with one of the color adjustment apps. Screen Adjuster set at blue +20 works for me. Overall the Gpad performs better than the Note 8 at a cheaper price. If you dont need the spen the LG wins hands down.

If you compare maximum brightness the G Pad is a bit dimmer than the Samsung or Nexus 7.
I personally do not have a blue line or a yellowish tint with my screen. I do need to run it about 10% brighter (at 68%) than I did with my Samsung 8" but given that the LG is amazing in every other way this is a non issue.
The screen itself is fantastic for the two main uses I have, reading and watching videos.
Also compared to my wife's IPad Mini 2, they are the same brightness. Her original Mini is much brighter though.
Then again, who runs a tablet at 100% brightness?
I tried the screen adjuster app out of curiousness but did not see any real difference.
Comparing it to the Nexus is not really logical, way different price point ($229 vs $279 for 16 GB models in both), LG is much bigger, far better build quality, IR Port, and of course Micro SD which is the best feature you can have on a 16GB device.

And that's what annoys me the most in Android devices. Why in the gods sake am I forced to set the brightness at ~~50%... why? It is year 2013, the screen is full HD extra crisp and I can't even take advantage of that because of the ridiculous battery drain... I ALWAYS use my tablet / phone set at maximum brightness. If the producent implemented such a screen then I want to take as much as possible out of it......

I use my devices at various brightness levels to suit the situation I am in. 100% brightness when reading in a dark room would be painful. I almost never need 100% brightness.

If course, in the middle of the night 10% is allright, but you know what's my point

Thanks for the feedback everyone. With the option to tweak the contrasts and get the whites pretty close I have decided to return the 8 and grab the G Pad. I hope to also improve on the Wifi signal, I would always have trouble with the 8 here at work. When I have the Nexus 7 I had no issues connecting and holding a connection through out the day, the 8 never held the network, heck my SIII holds better Wifi the the 8!
I am not seeing as many cases out the for the G Pad 8 yet, any idea if Moko has one? What are you using for a case?

VOIA is the one I ordered and so far pretty much the best bet. Asuxtek has one available very similar to the Moko style but it's taking a month for delivery depending on where you live.

I have not yet been in a situation where I needed to set my brightness level to 100%. Maybe you need a tablet that goes to "11". Do you find that 100% brightness is not bright enough for you?

I'm one of those guys that keeps my brightness at 100% on all of my devices (and I have a lot of them lol). I also run live wallpapers, widgets, constantly syncing etc. I own a restaurant so I'm either always there or home for the most part. I have access to charging 24\7. If I didn't have constant access to charging I would probably run my devices a little differently, but I have zero caution when it comes to battery life.
To the OP. I've had EVERY high end tablet available and the LG G Pad 8.3 GPE is hands down my all time favorite tablet. And yes I hate to say this, but I do like it more than my 2013 Nexus 7 (Nexus 7 has a better screen, but not enough to trump the G Pad and SD card support is pure win). If someone offered me 2 Note 8.0's for my LG G Pad I would turn them down. This is just my opinion, but the G Pad is the best tablet available ATM. Being the Google Play Edition just makes it that much better, unless you enjoy LG's UI. For me.... It's the perfect size, stock Android, and supports the SD card. Accessory wise it's lacking a bit and I'm not sure that will ever change. If the big named case manufacturers haven't jumped on ship yet I'm not getting my hopes up.
For anyone reading this that may be on the fence.... This tablet is not going to break any sales records, accessories are most likely going to be slim pickings, and Samsung fans may try to sway you, but coming from someone that has had every tablet worth owning, the LG G Pad GPE is hands down the best tablet money can buy. If you like LG's looks and feel, and don't mind waiting a little longer for updates, the LG G Pad 8.3 (500) is still the best tablet going. If you like timely updates and stock Android then go with the Google Play Edition. This tablet REALLY is that good!
Edit. My 3 daily drivers are the Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition, 2013 32G Nexus 7, and this LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition. I grab my G Pad 9 out of 10 times for everything.
PS. I'm also one of the owners of www.AndroidFanNetwork.com and we're looking for writers and accessory reviewers. Please pm me if you'd like to be part of a new and growing Android site (please keep it in pm so thread stays on topic).

I've owned both within the last 90 days.
Go with the LG G-Pad 8.3..
Trust me it's a better all around Tablet if you don't need the S-Pen and plan to run it absolutely stock.

I agree i have the LG 8.3 (not GPE) and I love it.. I think in my situation I like having the LG UI.. I do notice that the screen isn't as bright as my Nexus 7 2013, but I like the extra screen real estate. I will agree with RaiderWill that I have left my G Pad stock and really only got the Nexus 7 so I could scratch that "flashing itch"

I had a chance to test GPad with my Note 8 at local BestBuy. The screen isn't too warm (Asus Memo Pad is much worse as the screen white is brownish), but it's too dark even it's on 100% and it's dark like 40% on my Note 8.

Having no problem yet. Well, it is his opinion. You don't have to agree, lol.

Need buying advice on a new Android device

Hello everyone.
Just skimmed through separate forums for Asus Nexus 7 2013 and LG Optimus G Pro on XDA. I had my eyes set on the Nexus 7 2 tablet considering its big, full HD display, awesome gaming performance and high end battery. However, upon reading about a number of software issues that new Google updates have incurred AND some talk about defective units here on XDA forums (apparently, many have been having serious hardware issues out of the box) I have been made to think twice about purchasing this. I also began thinking that messaging (only using thumb like on a smartphone) in landscape would be a bit of a hassle for such a big screen and the portability might well be an issue.
LG Optimus G Pro, on the other hand, seems to sport the exact same screen quality but a smaller size instead. Do you believe this phone is an excellent alternate to the tablet and that the 5.5 inch screen isn't a BIG difference compared to new Nexus 7's display (considering the screen estate isn't exactly 7 inch with that really thick bezel)? Is the battery better and is the gaming performance and other performance related areas equally excellent in your honest opinion? Finally, do you feel that the build quality is such that makes the phone slip in the hand and that home button feels cheap (as some reviewers say so)? If there are any known issues that I should be aware of, kindly do let me know.
Just so that it's out there, I am looking for a device that is anywhere between 5 and 7 inches, has a FullHD display, sturdy build quality, excellent, lag-free performance, 2GB RAM and really long lasting battery. My primary use with the phone would be to check email, FB, Twitter, read e-books and occasional gaming. I did consider SONY Xperia Z but it seems to have washed out colours and the screen and battery timing is easily trumped by that of LG Optimus G Pro.
So then, enlighten me folks.

If you are not going to use Calling features more, you can go for the Nexus 7!
Else get a Nexus 5...
For videos, reading, or gaming, the difference between a 7" and a 5.5" diagonal is a lot more than you'd think. It's comparable to the difference between a 3x5 notecard and a mass market paperback.
For me, the N7 2013 is the perfect size. It's thin enough and light enough to easily hold in one hand and it easily fits in my inside jacket pocket
As to reliability, speed, etc, I've never seen the optimus pro, but my N7 is the best android device I've used.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
The N7 will do what you need and more; I use mine for reading and the screen is great. I doubt a smaller screen would work for reading any length of time and the battery life in the smaller devices will suffer from the long screen on time.
The 7" screen is a perfect size as it fits in a pocket easy enough. Its built well; I keep mine in my back pocket frequently, same as with the original N7, and after sitting on it many times (not recommended) it hasn't given me a problem. It's a Nexus so its easy to root and unlock, you can load custom OS and receives OS upgrades quickly. with other devices you have to wait for the OS to be released, then hope the manufacturer is going to upgrade the device, then wait months to get it.
The only other one I'd consider is the Samsung Note with the S-Pen as that looks like it would be useful for taking notes on a job site.
I haven't seen the LG. I have the N5 made by LG and based on that I'd consider their other Android products.

This. You have to remember, it's the people having problems who are most likely to post those problems, people like me who have never had issues just use it and enjoy it. As for the difference in size, I have an s3 and while it's a great phone and easy to use 1 handed I will go to the 7 inch screen any time I have a chance. Much more user friendly, and if you like playing games there's no comparison at all between the 2 sizes, the bigger screen is just great.
I have the Galaxy Note 2 and the 2013 N7. The Nexus dwarfs the 5.5 inch note! I now only text with the Note, everything else is done with the Nexus. Build, display is just awesome! :good:
5.5" and 7" may sound like they are in a similar league, but they really aren't. The Nexus 7 is large enough to handle everything I want it to (minus excel spreadsheets ), but small enough to travel everywhere with me. I still have my 4.7" Galaxy Nexus, but it looks like a dwarf. A Note 3 I compared it to was better, but that would be still too small for my usage now after having used the Nexus 7 so much.
As for the issues: what the other guys said. The people with problems are the loudest and there are no perfect devices. Make sure to buy from a seller that is known for handling returns well. That goes for everything above 100€ for me.
If you want something between a 5 and 7 inch device then,
For s pen functionality - Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (5.7 inch)
For music and premiumness - HTC One Maxx (5.9 inch)
For the largest phablet in market - Sony Xperia Z Ultra (6.4)
If you want the most portable tablet for a reasonably good price get the N7 2013 of course :good:
I love sharing my opinions/experiences in these types of threads, but everyone else pretty much hit the nail right on the head.
N7.2 is recommended by myself, and pretty much everyone else in this thread. But to add my two cents, get a warranty if you have the money. I got a 2yr warranty on my 16gb from Radio Shack, and it covers EVERYTHING, just as long as the device can still be physically recognized as a N7.2. I ended up returning it after a few days for the 32gb version, because 16gb just isn't enough. And if you intend to playba lot of games, download videos/movies, or put music on it, get the 32gb. Trust me.
And the best thing about the warranty is that the device holds its FULL value for the 2yrs. So I can easily exchange it for a new device and still get the price that I paid deducted from the new device.

Worth buying now?

Hi guys,
So im going to be buying a tablet very soon, like over the next week or so, and have been thinking about picking up the G Pad. I just wanted to ask you guys if you think its worth buying it now, or wait until after CES. Are you happy with your device? Or will you be upgrading it in 2014 to one of the newer tablets (whatever comes out)
thanks for the help

I was on the same boat as you. I ordered one from newegg a couple days ago cuz they are selling it $50 cheaper than others. The unit came in unsealed, and....defective. I talked about this here(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48941907&postcount=75). So go check it out if you want to. I returned it and ordered one from play store immediately. My point is, be careful of what retailer you are ordering from. Return is really a pain in the ass. And my first experience with this tablet was totally ruined.

What mods did you do to the screen?
Im still debating about getting the cheaper V500 and doing a custom ROM or a V510 and keeping stock minus root.

I use Trickster and it works great, my whites are pretty close to my G2's whites. Screen Adjuster does the same but I like Trickster more. I am running 4.4.2 custom rom and it is awesome, no major bugs, about the same battery life.... either way you will be happy. btw screen adjuster doesn't require root but trickster does
Got mine a few days ago as well, she's a keeper. Yellowish tint on the screen? Red and green color correction in Trickster MOD app for AOSP and I'm golden. This tablet is staying with me for a long time. I knew after owning Nexus 7 2012 that I needed a tad bit bigger screen. And 8.3 feels amazingly big and at the same time.. Not too big. :s It's just a beautiful tablet and I like it very much. And I don't see any other tablet that I'd rather have right now. And I'm pretty sure that once New Year is due, and ppl start receiving packages, we will see a lot of development specially to the GPE of this device. There should be a lot of development.. I think. ^^ Otherwise I'm fine with my CM11.
Battery life isn't as bad for me as many others say it is. I don't watch that many movies and I keep my gaming on media that are capable of graphics a bit better than tablets anyway. I am able to squeeze 3 days of use out of this baby with Interactive govenor and a 500Mhz minimum freq. on the CPU. It's just fine for my needs. If you wanna sit in a train for 10 hours and watch Blu ray rips of the full Lord of the Rings uncut trilogy, you might wanna find another tablet or a huge brick of extra juice. I can recharge it each night so battery will never be an issue unless the Zombie apocalypse comes and I lose power. But then I'd rather carry round a shot-gun anyways..
edit: for the record I'm crazy about crisp images, so the lower dpi than Nexus 7 2013 had me hesitating, until I saw the screen on this one, fck the dpi difference.. It's clear enough for me. It's just wonderful to look at.

Adamski,
It's a good Tablet.. just as good as anything you are going to find in the next 30 days or so.. Of course the longer you wait, you will hear about the "Next Big Thing" but you can wait another year.. waiting...... So, decide what works best for you.. but I can say, a lot of folks feel 8 inches is the "Sweet Spot" for Tablet size.. with the Nexus 7 2013 being just a little to small and phone like at 7 inches.. there is a 30% increase in screen size going with the G-Pad over the Nexus 7 2013..
And you should know that you may get a unit that is *Unsealed* when ordering or picking up from a local retailer.. You may want to check my Thread out as well.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2562268 as fellow members chimed in on their G-Pad's being received Sealed AND Un-Sealed..

can't agree more. I have the GPE. I rooted it and have been constantly tweaking it ever since. I'm not gonna lie. To me, the screen is a little bit disappointing. Also, I see some hiccups here and there while web browsing in Chrome, viewing pdf in popular productivity applications, and during gaming. 8 inch might be the sweet spot for a lot people, but this tablet particularly may not be the best bang for your buck TBH.

Wow.. sorry to hear you received one of the bad ones with color issues and hiccups on what should be the "Lightest" & "Smoothest" ROM available in the stock KitKat..
Are you going to return it to Google ? and go with the N7-2013 since it's the "Best Bang" for the buck if 7 inch screens work for you.. and it's bright white.. I owned one for a week or so.. but it was too phone like and too small even though I got it during the staples sale $219.00 for a 32 Gb model.. even that could not makeup for the screen size.. But I was able to get the G-Pad during BestBuy's Saturday sale for only $279.00 and with Zero issues.
You also have the option of the Note 8.. I owned one of those as well.. Very High Contrast so white's are white.. even at it's 1280 x 800 resolution..

I own both the Nexus 7 (2013), and the Gpad with V500.
Even tough the image quality and the performance of the N7 is better,
the Gpad is the one to keep without a doubt. Is the perfect size for a Tablet, specially if you have a big phone like the Nexus 5. You wont believe how much more screen real state you get vs the N7. If you decide to buy it, i would suggest you do the following:
1. Root it
2. Install Trickster Mod to adjust screen color
3. Install Screen Adjuster and set contrast to -15 at least.
4. If you have an Sd Card, install the Xposed Framework and the "Music2SD" mod, so your downloaded Google Play Music is stored in the external SD.
5. Profit!

I forgot to mention that a modified stock rom called: "Malladus 1.2.3" is available.
I installed it a couple of hours ago, and so far the performance improvement is very noticeable. Almost perfect rom...i just wish the LG weather widget was not removed.

the Gpad is the one to keep without a doubt.

Wow thanks a lot for this information! Seeing as the G Pad is decreasing in price I'm probably going to pick one up very soon!
How easy is it to root?

I've just set 253 red, 255 green, 255 blue
I noticed that the "good" values vary among 252 253 254 (talking about red settings).
About the topic: this tablet is almost perfect but lacks of optimization. The screen is awesome either as regards the resolution and the format. The battery isn't the top since I reach 6 hours of screen on only if I don't play (using stock rom). I rely on the updating at 4.4 by LG.

I like my whites cold like the G2 so my settings are red 213, green 213 and blue 255. Just beautiful imo. Every screen may be a little different but look at your whites after that
Love mine. Works great, takes nice pictures and good battery.

I am running 4.4.2 custom rom and it is awesome, no major bugs, about the same battery life.... either way you will be happy. btw screen adjuster doesn't require root but trickster does

Did you notice any battery or speed improvements over stock?
I bailed
Took mine back to Best Buy, swapped for an iPad Air, and did the new jailbreak. Awesome! Hate to say it, but I'm not missing Android a bit.

Am I the only one that likes the n6?

I keep reading negative posts about it, but I LOVE this phone. I came from a one plus and while the battery isn't as good I still get at least 4 hours of SOT with a superior screen. The build is great and camera seems just as good. Its not great but its more than capable for a mobile device. Quick charge is AWESOME. I can't be the only one.

Nope, you're not alone. The Nexus 6 is the best fondleslab I've ever used.
Love it to death. Would buy again.
Nope, I am exactly the same. Came from a oneplus one to the nexus, gave the oneplus to the wife. I like everything better on the nexus except battery was a little better on the OPO. At least the xda threads and any other forums to do with the nexus are helpful and fairly Kind, unlike that oneplus forum that is just full of whiners and people who can't be arsed reading anything at all then ***** when they make a mistake.
Nexus is a very cool phone.
Love mine with chroma ROM and hellscore kernel I got about 6 hours screen time with how I use my phone I only got half that on my s4 its big but I like it

My biggest gripe
When google/motorola decided to release a almost 6inch nexus device, they should have added a phablet style os. I dont really know but something that made use of the screen. Some type of added features.
Great phone overall, little overpriced but would easily last years. I dont judge phones but SOT(never understood this, use it and it dies) but it gets me through a work day with 15% after 10hrs.
Yall should sticky Turn off adaptive brightness. Pink/Yellow screen was a turn off.

A phablet ui? No thanks. Nexus is all about pure android, not skinning. I usually don't judge by sot, but man my nexus 5 had the worst battery life I have ever experienced. On par with my original moto droid. Its nice to have a phone with a good quality screen that is able to get good sot.

turn brightness down(pink) or max(yellow/warm)?
If not I and a million others have a different phone.
When I say phablet ui, Im thinking something similar to tablet ui(my note 10.1 2014 is on kitkat) Maybe google went away with that since lollipop. Ultimately slight tweaks to take advantage of the screen.
This is my first true nexus device. Its pure android i know just a bit boring. I know i know thats the point.
I see what you mean when I turn down the brightness it gets yellow. Feels good on the eyes when you're in a dark room though. I'm in a room right now with only the TV on, no lights And the screen doesn't look yellow at all. If I turn adaptive brightness off it feels like I'm looking at the sun.

Yeah coming from a mx4 pro and note 4 made the screen appear dim. Adaptive brightness is great for moments like you mentioned.
Reason I mentioned it, most reviewers said negative things about the screen. 99% probably didn't turn off the filter. Screen is bright and vivid without it.
Had the z2 before with the ****ed up built quality. Creaking everywhere and was just a matter of time until the phone cracked. Sold it and bought nexus 6 and never looked back. Great solid phone with great built quality.
And no, the camera is just fine and more than decent.
I absolutely love my nexus 6, and my battery life's been awesome so far I can get a full day out of it without any problems. That's listening to music most days and occasional screen on time.
No.
I'm loving my n6 on T-Mobile. I came from a Verizon GS4 on T-Mobile. Love how easy it is to do anything and everything on it. WiFi calling is icing on the cake. Been jealous of the wife's iPhone WiFi calling ability.
I challenge anyone on XDA to find a better all around flagship device! I here so much that the price was so high but I'm fine with it. The last couple Nexus devices were enjoyable but let's be real for a second the were flagship like!!!! That's still not flagship. The Nexus brand is my favorite brand of phone but with every nexus I had I ended up going to another phone usually before half a year was up. Once or twice I did come back then GI away again lol its hard to remember when you've had so many flagship phones. With the Nexus 6 nothing has been able to pry it out of my hands. Honestly I like it so much that I find it hard to think about getting the next Nexus phone. Of. Course the next Nexus will be better but they may get rid of some very nice pieces from the Nexus 6. Front facing speakers may not make a return although I hope they do. The 5.2 inch is confirmed but that 5.7 inch is just rumors and that would be a huge hit to take in screen size. LG doesn't use amoled which I wouldn't like. Battery life probably would be as nice but I can't say for sure. I guess we will see soon enough. I almost forgot the software experience on Nexus devices which crushes everything else accept Motorola devices.
I personally would have preferred it a bit smaller, Moto Maxx (international Droid Turbo) would have been a better Nexus in that regard, but the extra size occasionally comes in handy for man hands, and the rest of the device is top notch. By far, my biggest concern going into the Nexus 6 was the amoled display, since my last phone was an amoled and seriously made my eyes bleed it was such crap, but turns out that even with the fake 2560x1440 RGBG (true R and B resolution of 2560x720, only G is the full res), that it is enough to overcome general amolededness.
I like mine a lot! I would not like anything smaller. Perfect size!
The only change I would ask for would be a bigger battery but it is not bad and charges REALLY FAST.
Always love nexus but do miss the little refinements of the moto software additions. Moto assist and display are the primary two. I have good alternatives but it's missing a few key features.

Yeah...never notice any issues due to the subpixel layout. Thing about it....720 pixels in about 3 inches is 240 pixels per inch, and it only matters on near pure blue or red. I guess if you have a bunch of solid red vertical lines it would be noticeable.q
Best phone ever for me. I came from a note 2 as I upgrade every other year. I have other "toy" habits like musical instruments that I also spend discretionary funds on
The other thing I love is that I am a free agent for plans. So if I get dissatisfied I can change in a heartbeat.

The greatest phone I've ever owned!!!! Unless someone makes another 6" phone with front facing speakers, I think I'll have the nexus for a long long time. If things keep getting updated and supported, I'm happy, and just the fact that I don't have to wait months or a year for an os update really makes me feel like I made a great investment instead of something that will be "behind" after one update

Just wanted to see how much people like their G4! I personally love mine and think its the best phone I've ever had so far.

BTW, no root and twrp for the G4 H811 is driving me nuts, so this poll will keep me temporarily sane!

9 for me. Love it.
I put 9 I guess based on the descriptions it's between a 9 and 10 for me, there are some small things that need to be improved like the missing taps on the touchscreen, terrible top pull down menu-everytime i scroll across I find myself accidentally turning off or on something I didn't want to, screen brightness at max level is a little underwhelming ...etc but nothing really deal breaking for me. Overall I'm satisfied with battery life.
I would not return this phone for anything else out there at the moment-that pretty much sums it up

Some of those thing could probaby be fixed with an update or custom rom.
My deal breaker was wireless charging. But now that I installed and modded a Chinese wireless sticker, that put the icing on the cake for me. Look for that thread if u want one.

At an 8. Phone heats up kinda quick in my opinion. And i thought the battery would last alittle longer that it does
10 for me. Coming from a LG G3—>Note 4->Note 4 Edge->Nexus 6 to this phone. Im just waiting for the ordered skinomi glass screen protector and verus verge gold case. I got the gold plastic back version of the phone. Also waiting for Supershieldz glass protector, spigen carbon fiber case, i-blason prime case, and UAG ash case w/glass screen protector.
I'm an Lg loyalist in all my electronics. I loved the G2 and had none of the problems others had on the G3.. Until Tmo effed up lollipop, It was the best for me. I love the G4, but I honestly expected more, especially from the battery. Overall I am still happy with it and like the look, shape and feel better than the 3, but the G3 just ran better for me. I do love having smart lock and the other additions. I hate that they removed smart screen and Tmo again left off the user accounts though. I get better signal than my other phones so that's a plus. Who knows maybe this replacements battery will be better and I'll be happy, I have never been a custom rom kinda guy. I like the Lg stock experience and really just do a few simple mods and tweaks to fine tune it.

I was hoping to gdt away from sammy because i dont want anything that looks like and iphone. But my battery is terrible and i miss having a physical home button because when im in the camera app. I always seem to end going home. These may just be gripes i have. I really love the leather back and the bomb photos they have. Something is missing from my note4. I cant put my finger on it but i have two more weeks to figure out was it is

I've been around the flagship block that last few years: Note 3, G3, 1+, note 4, Nexus 6 and now G4. I've been rather schizophrenic about it, the missed taps and studdering are my complaints, but I's sure a custom ROM will readily nix these, so I'm staying with the G4 to see what the note 5 will look like.
Rated it at 9....pretty damned spiffy.
given the criteria, I gave it a 10, I've had a tilt 2, LG T501, Amaze 4g, G2, G3 and now the G4 as well as the following work phones droid maxx, some other droid with a keyboard and LG gs4 and HTC one Mini. The LG G4 is better than all that have come before and I do love it.
Compared to the G3, better contrast/colors, camera, volume, battery life, BT audio in my car. If I had one complaint is that I don't care for the metallic boarder, it will eventually chip and look ugly for those that go without a case. while it's no game changer, it's a great evolution of the platform. now if it had the battery life of the G2 then I would give a 10+.
8.5
9.5 so i went with 9. Size is great and reception is phenomenal with lte going fast and bluetooth connection taking little time to connect. Could list positives for days.
Gripes:
#1 Auto brightness - indoors its too light in good artificial light and darkness. Makes viewing angles bad. Hopefully they can update it to be brighter. Outdoors is great.
#2 Concept software unpolished. There should be more smart options (work settings maybe or other setting options). Same goes with dual screen mode.. Limited apps.
#3 G4 bootloader struggle... I plan on having this a while but it sounds like a xda bounty mission.

I give mine an 8. You can fix #1 above by using the free play store app lux lite

2. I'll most likely return it. My touchscreen misses taps (especially during knock code input), has issues charging, and isn't rooted (yet). I have the 810. I came from a note 3 which is a beast of a phone and I can't justify paying for this phone when the note is better in many areas. I'll miss the G4 camera, though.
5
10 - if bootloader unlock is achieved

9 For me as well. I love this phone. The only improvement could be the battery life for on screen time along with the restoration of functions removed by VZW. Aside from that, it's a great phone and personally I'm glad I had chosen it over the S6/S6 Edge.

What made you choose the moto z force?

i am just curious what made you choose the moto z force. i am deciding between this and the lg v20. coming from the note 7.
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
The battery mostly, plus, to a lesser extent, the mods and reading how fast and smooth it was.
Battery life, Shatter Shield, and Moto's seeming desire to remain as stock android as possible.
The Mods, especially the external battery mod, also played a big part. Being able to add on extra juice... I tend to be a heavy user of my phone and always kinda worry that I'm going to run out of juice.
I got it because I have had motorola in the past and like them. I had the Note 7 which I loved, but couldn't keep due to the fire issue. This phone had good reviews, fast, large battery. It is a very smooth phone. The negative is that I don't think that there are too many out there so development support may be less than with other phones. It is a good phone.
Most because the LG G5. I had 3 generations of Gs but considered the 5 a wrong step and looked for something else.
The Moto Zs are as unique as the Gs were.

I agree it is not the Note 7, but the Z Force is a very good phone. Maybe the next best. You might like the S7 Edge, but I am not a fan of the curved screen and the Edge has a more pronounced curve. Maybe the Pixel XL? I haven't seen one of those. I do really like the Z Force. I wish it had an LED indicator, but I am getting used to the notifications on it and they are fine once you get used to them. I certainly recommend this phone as very good.
I had an original Moto X and loved the ecosystem. The battery was a plus, and definitely why I chose the Force over the non-force Z. The mods are cool, but really had nothing to do with the decision.
I did not have a Note, but had the galaxy phones 2-5, I can say it is hard at first to get used to coming from touch wiz, but a million times better when you get used to it. My coworkers who are note owners...or past note owners envy my phone and talk about how much better and more responsive it is.
I guess to better answer this question it would be helpful to understand your typical usage but my overall experience with it is amazing.
The camera is amazing for a non dslr including low light photo and video. I took a video recording at a concert and was blown away by the audio and video quality.
I played minecraft on max settings hosting a multiplayer world and using a bluetooth controller and performance felt on par with the PS4.
I have used it for running a bluetooth scantool for automotive diagnostics and was impressed by the speed at which it could perform a full scan. Rivaled only my high level ($1,000+) scan tools.
I use it for remote desktop use at work while in the field with a bluetooth keyboard for true desktop computing with no issues.
Project cars has apps which run with the video game and the response is great with no noticable latency.
Controlling Chromecast works extremely well as well as screencasting to include emulators.
Runs fPSe, a playstation emulator with not problem at all.
As you can see I use it for a wide range of things, I could go on but dont want to bore you with irrelevant information based on your needs and expectations of a device.
I too am trying to decide between the LG V20 and the Moto Z Force. Anyone regret the Force? think maybe you should have got the regular Z or the Z Play instead?

No way for me to compare to a V20, but I've had a Z Force since the first week and have been very happy with it. I had a LG G4 before and there's no comparison in terms of build quality. My G4 failed twice under warranty and always felt cheap. The Z Force feels like a slab of steel in your hand, it's awesome.
I had gotten used to the LG style Android., but the Moto's nearly stock approach is really nice. The only thing I really miss is that you can't switch the "back" and "menu" buttons, which I did because I prefer the back button on the right for easier one-handed operation. Can't do that on the force (without root, which isn't possible yet/ever on my Verizon phone) but I got used to it soon enough.
I do not regret the Force and feel I should have gotten the others, and I am on verizon prepaid the only place that would let me pre order was best buy for $800 said the jbl mod was free but just added the price to the phone. I am glad I got that though, I was going to get the incipio mod and dont feel I have the need for it now.

I like the Moto take on Android. Shattershield has value to me (I didn't feel the need for insurance). Good battery life. Only have the speaker mod but it's good. Camera may be a tick behind the very best, but quite good. The phone is very fast and fluid.
I'm a Moto fan, using the Z force it's one of the best Moto handsets I ever used, design wise, performance and the Moto mods, really it's unique.
