So i just did something crazy - Moto X General

Been fighting with myself inside my head for my next phone since my old S3 is now property of my GF, so today i woke up and just ordered a GSM Dev Edition Moto X.
And i do not regret my decision knowing that the Nexus 5 may be released in 3 days.
So, what is up Moto X forum.

Welcome!
You won't regret it. The general consensus is that this device is pretty amazing. Most people get great battery life (my average is 18hrs off charge 4-5hrs screen, mix in games voice calls etc), the ones that aren't, are suffering from standby drain (this may be due to the initial enabling of location tracking settings, discovered by Kev1000000, it's being tested). You will love active notifications, for such a seemingly simple feature... it's life changing. Always listening is also great, if you are like me and always wanted to use voice commands but was always left disappointed and frustrated, then you are in for a treat, this phone actually works extremely well, even in noisy conditions.
I also came from an sgs3, the difference is night and day, in battery, performance, comfort and how I interact with the device... I'm sure that you will not be disappointed.
Development is not quite here yet, but that's not necessarily a bad sign, this phone has been the best experience out of the box that I have ever had... Speaking as a recovering flashoholic, I am enjoying having a phone that is awesome right out of the gate. I feel that once 4.4 releases, we will see more activity, but with safestrap being released and root available, in sure things will be coming down the pipe line soon, but this phone doesn't really need it.

I agree with the above post. This is the first Android phone I have ever bought and not felt a strong urge to screw around with it immediately.
Very happy so far...

Indeed, welcome! Many moto features can be done with 3rd party apps. But they either drain battery fast, or not very smooth. Ever since I owned moto, my N4 has been so very lonely

thank you everyone.
gotta start reading the guides and terms here, coming from a Galaxy S, S2, S3 so i know all the samsung terms and stuff but now i gotta onboard myself with the Moto X apps, and modes.
as for dev, it will be here eventually, for my flashing problems i got my Nexus 7.
can't wait to get my device in here, stupid motorola and their 7 day shipping.

Finally! A smart phone that does everything I ask of it!

Probably a stoopid thread, but I can honestly say that this thing rocks!
Every smarty phone I've had to date had multiple things that made me go ARGGGGGHH.
my SIII has done everything I've asked of it. Bluetooth, data reception, wifi, phone reception etc has all been spot on.
Usually at some point on my previous phones I'd go.....wtf !?! But honestly, I have not said that yet. I've found that if it was unfamiliar or different than my previous phones, I usually like it once I figure it out.
Now Tmo's reception......not so good.
But I like Tmo though. After many bad experiences with other carriers, they've been a pleasure, over all, to deal with.
Positive rant over........
True. This phone is excellent. A joy to use and even after I have all my apps and settings loaded it is still lightning fast. Oh and the camera is great.

Well that s4 proceessor handles a lot of that too. Qualcomm deserves some credit.

A different experience compared to our G2x's isn't it? Loving mine so far. You're in Texas so you may like this. I found a nice case at the T-Mobile store that is silver. Combined with the blue phone it looks great and is Dallas Cowboys colors!

Well, mine won't do wifi tethering, FM radio, toggle LTE, or several other things. But that's all thanks to AT&T, not the phone itself

Nexus 4 or Galaxy S3 LTE (i9305) or Droid DNA?

I could not ordered the damn Nexus 4...so was lurking around for alternative. Today I saw new Droid DNA. It seems like a good alternative matching up everything Nexus 4 can do but has more like 440 ppi or 1080 x 1920 resolution, wifi 5ghz, and support LTE and GSM unlocked. The resolution alone kick Nexus 4, S3 LTE i9305 and iphone 5 butt already...so now I have a dilema
When comparing the Nexus 4 to DNA & S3 LTE (i9305), it seems to have true google experience only over DNA and nothing much else. All 3 are quadcore and 2GB ram.

Even though they seem to have same hardware, somehow DNA outperform Nexus 4 on benchmark...not sure why

So now, I'm thinking if I can't get Nexus 4 by end of Nov, I'm going to grab a Droid DNA instead since it is gsm unlocked. What do you guys think?
I think it might be down to the thermal throttling that everyone is posting about, wait for some Kernel development and i believe the N4 will start to hit it's stride.
I am convinced that it all has to do completely with the Linux kernel they're using. It needed a couple more weeks of development and unfortunately, it wasn't ready for prime time but I am sure that the XDA community will make it kick the competition's ass within 3-4 weeks of steady development.
As always, it's all about what you want, want the AOSP experience along with a MASSIVE (understatement of the year) development community with great, quality hardware?
I don't need to bother selling you on the Galaxy S III, it's a great phone.
or do you want the DROID DNA which will be locked down, much more expensive but in return, you get the much higher resolution screen.
You need to ask yourself, do the pros of the DROID's screen outweigh the additional $300-400 cost? For me, not at all. It's new tech and it's never good to be an early adopter with HTC (as I learned with the HTC Thunderbolt). Not to mention we've hit the point where these phones are often more powerful than most PCs and next year's focus will be 1080P displays along with battery tech meaning the next Nexus will probably be everything you want plus more.

Deciding on Find 5

I am looking to buy find 5 but on the oppo forums I see a ton of negative feedback ranging from connection issues to whatever. What has been your impressions as I really think this phone could be my daily driver over nexsus 4.

I wouldn't buy the Oppo Find 5 now. Custom ROMs are limited but tho, we've some really good developers like Maxwen, Anders and Aaronpoweruser, and I believe Entropy also will continue developing for the Oppo find 5 if he comes back.
Haven't really any issues with the mic or connection drops like some of the users have had. Running AOKP now!
But tho, the build quality and screen of this phone is amazing! I prefer the Find 5's screen over my HTC One's, because the Oppo Find 5 doesn't have that "blue hint" over it.
But it's up to you, you won't be disapointed if you choose the Find 5!
Cheers,
Sebastian

I really enjoy owning this phone. I take advantage of the custom roms and I feel like I own a superior nexus with the Find 5. Lovely screen. Great build. Easy rooting/modding methods. Etc

The phone is gorgeous.. after even almost a year old, it's still one of the nicest phone you can get. The stock firmware or software hasn't been the best experience. But I'll tell ya.. Being able to root and ROM without worry of voiding the warranty is super nice. I've been running CM for almost a month now, no issues here.. Camera works great, sound and audio is good.. Battery-meh, but I do fine. The design of this phone, and the display... mouth watering

The look and feel, the hardware specs - they are amazing. The camera takes very good picuters (on stock rom).
But that's it already. The ridiculous batterylife and the lack of a stable working software makes me regretting this purchase. Oppo has good intentions, but they are not able to keep their promises. I wouldn't recommmend the find 5 at the moment
When the International ColorOS comes out, the Find 5 will be a perfect phone! Since a few months the Find 5 has a Snapdragon 600. I've bought mine from oppostyle.com and mine has a Snapdragon 600.

I currently have a Xperia U and I'm currently thinking about purchasing a Oppo Find 5.
I had no idea about the state of the custom roms. And is the stock rom usable?

Underdog with a loud bark

As well as a loud bite....
This is a congratulations the people who brought this device. I have been in Verizon, Sprint and Best Buy I brought my mattress with me as I slept in the mobile section they kept asking "what is he doing" I responded benchmarking.
This isn't the usual grab a app and think the numbers translate this is more testing real life usage against the susposed top of the ladder. I'm here to tell you just about every Note 3 feels laggy everywhere even the Camera app the settings app is hideous I never suggest anyone set anything just leave it be and hope you don't have to hurt your eyelids. Next up was LG G2 and the One Max which are ok but the one that talked to me is the Moto X and coming from the Note 2 I'm highly giddy simply because from store to store.....every Moto X makes me say woah this is efficient, fast, smooth, accelerated. I'm one of those Swype guys who can type a 21 page lecture on a 5 inch or so smartphone screen in other words phones don't keep up with me when I'm mashing the screen all I can say is the Moto X never stumbled.
Ever.
Your probably like ok he's done there but nope I just got started. How is it that all these phones claim to be the fastest, have the biggest processors, gigantic ram, gpu's that play Grand Theft Auto 7 HD but cant do it and stumble in day to day action.
Spec war times 80 million it goes on and on like girls getting tattos in 3rd grade and gets worser and worser all in the name of excitement this is the world its a trend and its slightly ok just as long as the forces that have been here for awhile back up there claims. I should not pick up a phone at the end of 2013 beginning of 2014 or end and be graced with lag. Were still talking about lag??? Should we not be crazed over battery technology??? Well I'm here to tell you that Moto X is the skinny guy in the ring knocking out heavy weights technically there footprint is so large they can never move a inch. It seems.

Love the enthusiasm. But I don't know of any 3rd graders with permanent tattoo's. If there out there, the parent shouldn't have had a child.

this XDA developers not XDA ranters or whatever that was.
One thing is for sure, it has nothing to do with development

I miss ROMs

Started all the way back with the Samsung Omnia with Windows 6.5, got me into development, ended up following community and cracking open everything from standalone GPS (those were the days) to the pioneer head unit in my car. Omnia 2, HTC droid eris, Moto X, Galaxy S 2, Note 2, HTC One Max, Note 4.
One Max was such a disappointment and I thought, no brainer, Note 4 is my savior. Stock is so unimaginably horrible. Battery life is atrocious, lag is everywhere, random crashes, overheating, what a disappointment.

You do realize they have a Developer Edition Note 4 right? Don't buy a locked phone, then complain about it being locked.
I started putting money in a "Dev Note 5" fund back when I pulled my pledge.
Until then I'll mess around with the trusty old Note 2 I've got in a drawer at home.
It was always a long shot with this N4, I'm sad to see the community hasn't been successful.
They created an acct just to ***** lol. No research and mad. There was never a hey this phone will be rooted and or unlocked boot loader. Learn how to root phones or stfu.

No. you are incorrect. You'll be better served to not speak anymore. You're ignorant and it's embarrassing to you.
