WM6.5 on Lumia 820 - Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking

Has anyone succeded in running WM6.5 on Windows 8 Phones ? (emulator, direct boot)
Lumia 820 looks quite good as has SD card and maybe can manage to boot from there ? (like on old phones)
Please let me know I'm very interested.

This won't be possible... WP8 runs on the NT kernel. The amount of work needed to somehow make a CE emulator that could run on WP8 would be impossible also due to the limited API stack we have...I'd say this question is very much like the other questions I see on here all the time with people wishing to run Android on these phones.

We never got a WM emulator for WP7, even though there was one in the works. Whats your need for it?

a challenge for developpers

Could anyone of you try to install Windows 7 (for PC) on a MicroSDHC (I don't have one with 16 or 32GB so I can't try) and try to boot it (using multiboot with WinMo 6.5) on HTC HD2?
This experience must sho us if:
- HTC HD2 can run Windows 7 (lagging or not)
- Windows 7 can recognize our 480x800 screen resolutions
- Windows 7 can use our GPS
- Windows 7 can recognize and use our accelerometer
- Windows 7 can use our phone for calling
- HTC HD2 has the specifications to run Windows 7 (is Snapdragon efficient?)
- etc...
If it works, maybe my phone will use Windows 7 instead of WinMo7...

Search for Bochs, you can get windows 95 to run on the HD2. Unusable, but it runs...
ok this is serious and possible, if you came here only to write stupid things you can go on iPhone.com... for others who are interested you can stay... after all the Wii launched Win95, an HD2 launched Win95, etc... Why an HD2 could not launch Win7?
Maybe it could, but that wouldn't make it any close to being useable. x86 PC and ARM are different architectures, so emulation is needed to run a PC OS on an ARM device like the HD2... which is awfully slow.
Imagine taking your 10-15 year old PC and try to run win7 on it.

I can't help the way i look, i've got a cold at the moment if you don't mind.
Seriously though, I've been here a long time and that was a stupid question, especially for your first post. You spent more time writing it than you did on ANY type of research or use of common sense. You might as well asked if you could install it on a nokia (or iphone).
I honestly thought he ment win phone 7 series at first.
You want to run the latest win OS on your phone...
Everything would be so small!
first i don't have iPhone nor Nokia (I really dislike those two)...
Then, yes i want to try windows Seven to try it on a capacitive screen, to see if it could adapt on a WVGA screen, etc... I only want to see if it is possible, not to use everyday... someone installed ubuntu on his phone, someone installed Windows 95 on his wii, ... It could be funny to see it running...
Finally johnk1973, someone said in the past "when you don't know something... just shut up!!!" so maybe you could think about this...

Serious question? Really? Okay. Here's a serious answer. No. It will not work. Totally forget about it - 100% forget about it.
Incidentally, you're being ridiculously rude for a noob. Chill out and stop insulting people. Just because someone offends you by not being serious, doesn't mean it's okay for you to name-call back at them.
Finally, I read some very good advice somewhere...

johncmolyneux you're acting like johnk1973... you say no without saying why... maybe 'cause you don't know either... so don't post here, you're acting for nothing... your "serious" answer is not serious...
johnk1973 i didn't say that i know more, i said if tou don't know don't fill this topic...
At the last look nearly 600 different people have viewed this thread and not one person has said you can install Windows 7 on a HD2. Only one person said it's possible if someone was to write an emulation program to do it, and he's right but there is no such program. This would be a massive task and pointless as the processor in the HD2 is not capable of running both the emulation and Windows 7 at the same time, maybe in 10 years (? anyone). Don't confuse the 1Ghz processor in the HD2 as being ANYTHING close to a 1Ghz in a PC.

HD2, WinMo7, 6.x and VS2010...

This is a bit of an odd question, but please bare with me here.
I'm writing my thesis for the uni about C#... with the recent release of VS2010, I thought it'd be great to focus on this IDE and the new features it offers and put those in the thesis as well. I ALSO had an idea to show that one can write apps for mobile devices using C# (duh, but all's fair in the academic world ); I own a HD2, so being able to whip out the phone and show the app working would be a great way to blow some academic minds (well, not really, but I think it'd be nice).
However... VS2010 doesn't support WMo 6.X, which is a serious bummer. There are some rumours that an SDK will be released, but if and when that will happen remains a mystery.
So this leaves me WMo7, which has already been ported to HD2. However, it seems it's not public just yet. And besides not being public, WMo7 will supposedly only allow apps to be installed through MS store... so I have no idea if it'll be possible for me to write an app for that OS and actually use it (it won't be commercial in any way and 100% useless for 99% of people, as it only serves as a live example for my thesis).
To summarize:
- Is is possible for a "basement-programmer" like myself to use WMo7 to show off my own apps without the use of the MS store?
- If so, where could I get my hands on WMo7 for HD2?
- If WMo7 is not available to us mortals, could someone tell me roughly when a public release will be available?
- Or perhaps the whole idea is pointless and I should just develop my app in VS2080 and show it off with the HD2 that I currently own? (It's will be a simple app that connects to some database online without being limited to MSSQL and does something with it, where "something" is yet unspecified)

there is a chance they may get it working on the HD2 or some other phone but its not available currently.

So... the whole thing about W7 having been ported to HD2 was just a rumour?
I am not sure where you heard that winmo had been ported too hd2? is a link available.
I have just checked Da_G's twitter account and he is still working on the port, he has developed several new tools too help him but is struggling to get some stuff to do with the JTAG controller.
there is a hd2 application which attempts to reimplement some of the functions you can see in the wp7 promo videos but this is not a port it is just an application that looks like wp7.

write your app under 2008 and for 6.5, there hasn't been any word from the source of that rumour for months. C# code is very portable between 2008 and 2010, so don't worry about that. With a little work (can be on the order of hours) you can upgrade your code to 2010 and 7.0 if it ever arrives for HD2.
uuum.. u can show windows phone 7 with a emulator on a pc.. and i think ms released the windows phone 7 tools to programm apps for it alerady..
http://developer.windowsphone.com/Default.aspx
dont know if its possible to just run the app without the market.. i hope it is, but really dont know >.<
and its impossible to port wp7 to the HD2 right now. yes, it already happened, but that version is very laggy and buggy, so its useless when u want to show it

wm7.. Yes I'm going there..

After reading a few articles about the HD3 coming out soon I was thinking about how nice it would be to have WM7 as stock ROM w/ Android on SD.
Don't shoot me but what are the chances of seeing this happen?
*ducks for cover*
I was thinking of the same thing the other day.
Where are you going to put the SD card? From what I've heard they're not coming out with a slot. That's why they got the large internal. Ill double check.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
By that time, I'll buy new device with dual core.
Right now I'm rockin' WM, Android and Ubuntu, I'd prefer to just be able to add WM7 to the selection than be stuck with anything tbh.

WM sucks so much wish i new how much before I entered my contract. Least things are moving forward and wouldn't mind trying out WP7 or might even get out the credit card and get an Iphone 4 (Yep I said it)
Who wants to bet that Windows 7 will be ported on HD2 and we will be able to leave Android on it as well??? .... why... well HD2 is just best device on the market ...
Since cotulla got win ce7 booting off sd card on the hd2, when wp7 is ported, I bet we can boot that off sd also. Then we can have wm6.5, wp7, android, & ubuntu (and hopefully meego once they get the 3d working correctly on non-android linux!) all on one phone! Da_G mentioned cotulla was working on a haret-like loader for wp7.
It makes me wonder why people want android on nand so much when you can have a phone that does all that... A multiple os booting superphone or just another android phone?... I'll take the first option.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Agree I wouldn't mind trying out win7 just to compare it to 6.5 Guaratee Cotulla could get win7 on hd2. Nand sounds awesome. If I really had a choice I would pick win7 and android off sd card rather than nand. Beggers can't be choosers. I'm just grateful for all the work devs have done so far.
everybody says that winmo sucks, but without winmo we didn't have haret to boot ubuntu or android.
i havn't seen a phone with ubuntu stock

Cotulla is working with Da_G to get WP7 on the HD2 according to Da_G... I assume that's why he created a loader that could boot winCE7 off of a sd card. It sounds like the first steps to getting WP7 booting on the HD2.

Back in the old days it was about getting the most out of the hardware. All those Amiga demos written in assembler trying to get the most number of sprites on the screen.
Even the 64k demos are amazing.
With Android it's about throwing more hardware at slow inefficient code. Wasn't Windows always criticised for being bloated and slow? funny how Windows Phone is faster than Android on a single core.

Ain't that the truth. Only difference is people used to criticize Microsoft for supporting the hardware industry by making Windows ever-more bloated with each version. Seems nobody has a problem with Google doing that to sustain Android phone sales/activations. Now we have 4.7" quad-core phones with 24-48 hour standby times (like in the AMPS days) in spite of 2000+ mAh batteries. Instead everyone complains about Microsoft making Windows Phone too simplistic. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
