S4 front screen alignment issue (with photo) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I love my S4 (apart from it being a little laggy for a supposedly fast phone..)
Anyway does anyone else have an issue where the front panel cover under the glass is not correctly aligned? Mine seems to be pushed to the right and slightly downwards. I took a photo to show the issue. Anyone else's like this?
Also the home button is already starting to get loose and not feel as firm and solid as when it was new (only a month old!). The left hand side of the button has some movement where I can push it down a little and it clicks/pops, I then have to push it further down to do the actual button click. If I push the button down fairly hard it seems to fix the issue for about a minute or two and the button feels ok, but then it comes back to how it was.

My home button cracks here too (and feels a bit loose), same as you mention (after a lot of using it it feels good). My power on/off button is sometimes stuck, when i hard press on it i hear a hard click sometimes

First s4 volume down button stuck in slightly and wouldn't click when pressed. Snapped under warranty, now the power button on this one is starting to go

I called the repair centre here in the Netherlands and they told me i could replace the front unit for 150 euro's ... because they blame the user for it.
Last time i bought a Samsung device, this is surely not a user fault because my phone is more @ home.

A defect rate of 2-5% is acceptable in electronic devices. That means some are going to get out with defects. And that applies to all manufacturers not just Samsung. The mis-alignment is pretty negligible and I doubt 99% of phone buyers who aren't enthusiasts (or anal retentive) would have even have noticed. OP, you're obviously outside your remorse/exchange period. How long have you owned the phone before you noticed?

The quality control on the S4 is TERRIBLE! Samsung have only $$$ on their mind with the S4 I'm afraid.
It was rushed to market and didn't go through proper QC, in my opinion.
I have had 6 replacements, YES 6!
Phone 1: 2 grey lines running through screen.
Phone 2: same issue but a bit better and in a different place.
Phone 3: Pink tint on bottom half of screen.
Phone 4: Front camera, LED and sensors totally misaligned in casing. It was so bad the LED and front camera were cut off.
Phone 5: Pink tint on top of phone.
And finally my current handset: Broken power button out of the box, green tint down left side of screen and also the same 2 grey lines on low brightness. Here's a photo of my current S4 with the green tint and horrible screen in low light.
http://db.tt/JKLs7sdN
I'm off for a refund at the weekend.
So after 6 Galaxy S4s ALL with problems I can safely say the QC is appalling!
I've had every Galaxy handset since S1 and never had problems. So I'm not just being fussy. Im never buying a Samsung Phone again

Actually, there have been pretty few complaints compared to how many have been sold. This year Samsung's launch issues were mostly s/w related and at least anecdotally the SGS4's got less build quality issues than the SGS3 did when it launched. And I'm not talking about one person's experience with both phones which have sold in the millions. HTC on the other hand had less s/w issues this year but a ton of build quality issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197732

I'm on my third phone.
Phone 1: vertical lines
Phone 2: pink tint at bottom
Phone 3: pink tint at top
I've decided to just keep mine. There's no guarantee I will get a perfect screen and I might just get a worse screen.
After a while you get used to the tint and not notice it

That's about a tiny screen gap on HTC One. What about the HUGE gap between bezel and screen near the power button that loads of S4s had?
I don't know anyone that hasn't had to take their S4 back for a replacement handset. Granted I only know 3 people including myself with S4s, but that's pretty bad.
Neither of my friends have a perfect phone, one has pink tint on screen and the other has grey stripes. But unlike myself they have just settled on it and are keeping the ones they have.
I've had 100% failure rate on my S4s and I've had 6, I feel that the quality control is terrible. I've yet to see an S4 with a perfect display.
I think the S4 was rushed to market and made cheaply, simple.
And don't even get me started on their failure of the Octa core processor.
I've always been very loyal to Samsung and really impressed with their products, I own a lot, including white ware and home theatre etc.
I just feel really let down with my S4 experience and my next cell phone and probably TV will both be Sony.

Honestly I tried to avoid to buy phone from samsung. I have their tablet and TV and they are all crap.
I choose S4 is just because it has biggest screen size.
All such purple tint is OK with me. But I feel so regret for the sound from speaker.
I didn't own htc one. I believe the sound must be a lot better.

True or false?

I've heard many people complain about the unresponsiveness of the screen and its yellow tint. How bad is the unresponsiveness for someone who has this phone? Does it bother you that much and slow your typing? Does the yellow tint bother you? I'm coming from the SGS2 and I'm interesting in buying the N4 but I hear so many bad things about it. Additionally, I heard there is a rattle in the phone? I read up on XDA on a poll thread but I think it's normal? What do you think? Is this phone better than the SGS3? (sorry to bring up this phone) and not considering the prices of both devices. I want to forget about the price and just focus on which one will not give me any noticeable problems
Thanks!
i can verify that its not too difficult to press lightly and not have a touch register. although i dont usually press very lightly, so it really depends on the individual. if you normally have a delicate touch you will notice it. personally it doesn't slow me down at all.

The yellow tint can only be seen from extreme angles and I'm doing perfectly fine with the screen sensitivity.

Thanks! I'd still like to hear a bit more from other people :3 By the way did you face any other issues with the n4? at all? hows the battery?
I don't think you will be disappointed by this phone coming from an S2. Most of the "issues" have been blown out of proportion. The rattle being the best example.
Yellow tint?
The screen is on the warmer side, or may have its gamma off, it's not a yellow tint. You would probably not know the difference unless you compare it side by side with something like an amoled display. Some people have mentioned a yellow tint when you look at it from the bottom left or upper right corners at an angle. This seems normal as it shows a blueish tint from the two other corners.
Rattle?
I checked mine, and to hear this rattle I have to shake the phone vigorously next to my ear and be in a completely quite room to be able to hear it, it doesn't rattle at all if you just grab or move the phone.
Screen sensitivity?
It is indeed less sensitive, for me it sometimes fails to register taps on the home button, but that's about it, it doesn't bother me that much. It depends on whether or not you're used to very light touches.
I don't have any of those issues. My response is excellent and my screen has no tint at all. In fact my N4 has none of the issues being complained about.
I think a lot of the perceived issues are overblown. Typical for a device launch. The few unhappy people post and the majority are happy and don't bother.
It seems you have more motivation to go on a board if you're having an issue than if you don't. I experienced the same thing with the gnex launch (again flawless phone) and nexus 7 launch (flawless tablet).
I don't think I'm just lucky, I just think you're more likely to find those with issues posting.

Thanks I think I'm becoming more persuaded towards the SGS3 because I love AMOLED and I'm just too worried about this phone in general.. I'm not sure what you mean by light touches though.. I usually handle my SGS2 with one hand so I kind of press densely but maybe it is not enough.. Is it hard enough, for instance, that if you press your thumb on your forearm, that your skin will bend down (not sure if thats a correct word) a bit? Or does it stay still? I would say my skin moves a bit following my thumb..
I've had neither issue but I've also had no heating issues either and people keep complaining about that too.
My screen isn't yellow-that seems like some isolated batch.
The only time my nexus 4 heated up was when I was downloading several apps, watching youtube on 3G and charging the phone all at the same time. It cooled down very quickly afterwards.
I have grown to prefer the 'touch error' of this screen, I came from an SGS2 which has a super-sensitive screen (it can be activated by hovering close to it), often a swipe or light touch would register as a single point touch and take me elsewhere in the phone, especially with one-handed use. Now, though, I actually have to press something to select it. Swipes don't register as single point touches, an errant finger in one hand use mostly won't register, which is brilliant IMHO. I prefer it.
Choosing between the N4 and SGS3 is the hardest thing in my life so far. Just kidding. I hate the SGS3's design and I think the N4 is the most sexy beautiful beast in the world. Anyway, thanks a lot of the replies guys but I have... a possibly last query.. What would you guys do if you had a change to pick again from both of those phones?

Then I don't think you will have a problem with screen sensitivity. The most compelling reasons to get this phone are the stock android experience, future upgrades availability, and its solid build, it feels great in your hand. You will have to weight those attributes versus your preference for amoled screens. I have a Samsung 7.7 tab which has one of the best amoled screens I've seen and great hardware, but the lack of support and SW upgrades sort of makes the Nexus 7 a better option.
My screen does not look yellow to me, but it can depend on what phone you just came from. To me the green in some apps is not as vibrant as it was on my HTC One S.
I have no issues.

Thanks guys.. again xD What do you guys recommend for me?
No yellow tint on my screen, however the screen sensitivity is slightly less responsive than the Galaxy S III, but should'nt be too much of an issue. I would recommend the Nexus 4 due to the price, pure android experience, and the first to get updates.
When speaking of touch sesitivity you need to keep in mind that you are talking about a capacitive screen. That means it senses the capacitive charge setup from your finger and the screen. This can be effected by your skin, oil/dirt on your skin/screen, moisture content and temprature of the air. For these reasons it is very difficult to accurately compare the opinion of your touch to someone else's opinion of their touch.

Battery life isn't as good as the GS2, nor is the speaker or build quality and there is no Micro SD slot or removable battery. What is also annoying is seeing my friends I noticed that black levels were more of a grey, I just cannot get used to non OLED screens any more. There isn't really any improvement over the GS2, the only thing you can say is specs but the Nexus 4 is hardly the king, it's lagging behind the competition even with it's superior hardware, purely because of build quality from LG.
I was excited for the Nexus 4 but unless you cannot afford a Smart Phone and the £280 price point is perfect for you then there is no reason to buy it. I'm just gonna get the GS4 on my upgrade next year.
I came from a Galaxy SIII , and I couldn't be any happier. My battery life is much better, the screen has no yellow hue to it that I can see, even at weird angles, the touch screen couldn't be any more sensitive in the opinion (its just as sensitive as my sgs3 was) , the rattle is there, but you have to have the ear piece right up against your ear to hear it at all, if not it barely audible. To me, this phone is the best Android device I've ever owned, and I've owned ALOT of them. One more thing, this is the best screen ive ever seen on a smartphone too. Text is extremely crisp, colors are true to life, and it is really bright!
I hope this, and everyone else's posts have calmed your concerns about the Nexus 4. To be honest , you be missing out on an amazing device if you chose not to get it because some people are overly dramatic .
I hope you get it

This Nexus 4 crap is really perplex.. I don't know if to buy it or not. The price doesn't matter right now, I just want a good smartphone with a lot of development teams and sexy design along with good specs. To be honest, I saw the SGS3 on a store and I used it and the screen is amazing but if i get like 1 inch close I can actually see pixels .-. And additionally, I HATE the design. But if there's no other better choice I'll get it. What do you guys recommend? forget about the price please.

Backlight bleed

Hey I just got my tablet Z off preorder and love it. I have noticed today that there is a bit of backlight bleed (especially on the bottom) which is really noticeable during the startup screen. Also any pressure put on the edges of the screen produces a crazy amount of light leakage. Is this normal? Are others finding this too? I would like to know before I go and exchange.

The back near the camera is fine for me.
I am more ok with the pressure marks given how thin the tablet is. That is understandable if everyone has it. I am more concerned about the two or three spots along the bottom with severe bleeding when there is no pressure put on the screen.
Do you have the same issue like in below film ? It happens when i lightly press front or back cover in top right or left down corner.

Won't be doing anything about it mate. Isn't noticeable unless you purposely press on it.
I didn't even notice it until i saw this video.
Its visible with high brightness and if you purposely preasure top right corner in the back. Somewhat happens if you preasure front too but with much higher force. Nothing to be worried about as its only visible upon application and is not visible when you hold it. Also its quite awkward /uncomfortable to hold it with just one hand and fingers just 2cm from the edge basicly like you would be trying to pinch it.
There is no bleed otherwise.
Mine has noticeable bleed along the bottom even with no pressure applied. Ill have to exchange mine.
"noticeable during the startup screen"
I have this yet almost every tablet I have had shows allot of bleed/light at startup then gone. As for pressing around the edges, left side top none. Right side no but looks same as if I press on my monitor at home. Bottom yes but its flash of tiny light and just where I press and goes right away.
My only "problem"? is battery. It charges great I just cant use it while charging. If using it it shows charging but drains still just slower drain. So I have to not use it if I want to charge it. This is a killer for me. I will be sending it back.
Battery and blacklight bleed are killers for me. No bleed here..

I exchanged the unit and now I have no bleed. Very happy. As far as the drain goes, I notice this someones on my Xperia Z phone. Im tending to think that as these devices become more powerful, the battery used to operate them is being used at a faster rate than they can be safely charged at. It sucks but not a deal breaker for me.

Serious light bleed on the bottom of the screen
Bump on this one..!
Guys I have exchanged 4 different units , 1 black and 3 whites Xperia Tablet Z LTE, over the past week here in Greece and ALL of them have serious backlight bleeding issues on the edges and especially on the bottom of the screen !! Really annoying when wathing full HD videos which have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen
I cant believe there are only a few reports about this issue here. Could this be a bad batch here in Greece ?
Have you all checked with the light bleed app and 100% brightness in a dark room??
I notice a bit of shadows from The buttom of the screen when viewing White websites, but it's nothing major. For me, The light bleed is really only noticable on the boot animation, and not during normal use.. Still it's quite a concerning design flaw..

Yes it is concernig
For some people its ok, it doesnt bother them. But not for me..
Too bad, because other than that, this is an excellent tablet!! Probably the best out there.
I thought the Z tab was one of the few tablets that seemed less prone to backlight bleeding complaints. I had a 16gb which I returned for a 32 version and both were absolutely perfect with the displays. I can't say the same about any transformer pad I have tried/owned.

Screen issues on dark greys/blacks

I'm on my 5th replacement S4, all because of screen issues!
This is my current (5th) handset and I notice horrible green tint and stripes on the screen when on low brightness in a dark room.
Before you say it, "but this isn't normal conditions" this is my normal conditions when I use my phone at home. My room is dim.
And my S, S2 and S3 all didnt do this.
Anyone else notice this sort of problem??
Yes my first s4 had the stripes in low light.
My second replacement didn't have the stripes but has the pink tint on the lower half of the screen.
Not sure whether i should risk exchanging this one and get another s4 with a different screen issue.
I saw ur screen shot.. do u mean by green tint in left sides from corners?
If yes then its faulty.. and ignore the answer which is written below
If u mean why black is horible in settings menu like settings, file manger..
Then I have truth answer of that shot..
We all know samsung have smearing thing like we move text on settings its looks bad ghosting caused by true black pixel(turned off in black fully)..so for that, samsung did change they make a black intensity to 0 to 1% in settings menus..
So, for fixing smearing issue they did that..
If u have doubt with black.. then open a pure black image or download screen test from play store..
See the black should fine..
Dont trust on black on settings..
Its normal normal normal normal..
Edit. And I seen u are in custom rom..
Well the notification bar it's pure black and see the menu side..(file manager)
I hope it helps

In my opinion, with the S4 you just end up replacing one issue with another!
Trust me I've had 5 replacements and not one has had a perfect screen
I've given up on my quest for perfection now, which I don't think is to much to ask for one of the most expensive phones on the market!
Samsung have let themselves down on this one.

That's a shame. I would exchange the phone for a HTC one but I don't want to give up the 5 inch screen, user replaceable battery, and micro SD card.

This issue isn't software related.
It's a very poorly made AMOLED display. Samsung only have $$$ in mind.
It is a shame, and believe me, if the HTC One had an SD card slot I would totally own one right now!
I don't disagree with you, but if they can provide a software workaround i'll take it.
If they can do some type of filter to the bottom or top of the screen to offset the pink tint that would fix the issue most likely.
I'm thinking that's what Samsung did to fix the yellow tint on the left side of the screen for the galaxy s2.
I don't see why Samsung can't do that for the s4.

U r feeling over shame..lol..
There is still no competitor of samsung..
Samsung amoled have pure black.. truly pixels off in black. Amoled have high saturated coloure.
Htc and sonys display are sufffering moslty from dead pixel but in s4 is no dead pixels..
I love amoled screen..even I have slightly tint..which not noticable..
If samsung have $$$ in mind then its not enough and not true..
Samsung have $$$ because their product have high sales becauase its best and people like it..
I know that u r sad because u got bad piece after replacement too..
My suggestion is sell it and buy s4 from original shop...
Trust me u will get perfect device...
I was non samsung fan until I buy from local shops..that results in so many faults..
After buying from original center, now I have original handset...

I got all 5 phones from reputable shops here in NZ.
The first 2 were from 2Degrees and the last 3 from Vodafone.
We don't have a Samsung store here so I've gone to the best places that are available to me.
I feel this new Full HD AMOLED panel was rushed to market and didn't have the proper quality control or testing done. Simple.
Yes I'm a bit annoyed over it, but not sad.
There are much worse things going on the world right now than my phone having a green screen.
I was just wanting to know if it really is worth me chasing the perfect screen or if everyone else is experiencing issues like this.
I got my s4 here in nz too. The firmware was out of date and I had horrible blacks in videos too. I flashed to the German firmware and it's night and day better with proper blacks etc. My only complaint now is the yellow green tint on the screen, really annoys me watching movies. It disappears if you tilt the screen slightly but when viewed straight on everything has a faint yellow tint.
I agree with what was said above - my view is it's just a poor screen.

Screen issue or is it just like this?

My Galaxy S4 screen is strange. The top of the phone seems to be lighter than the bottom. As in when im texting the and I turn the phone sideways the blue bar that is there is a lighter blue on the left than it is on the right. This annoys me to no end and I want to know if this is normal or not. I also notice this in a ton of other apps when in landscape and it has a bar. Like Youtube.

im terrified to send it back because they will send me an updated bootloader version back.... its not a bad issue the screen still works. its just really annoying. Custom roms and Kernels i will take over anything.

Plus in time (not guaranteed) Usually there will be an exploit hack to get root. I'm sure someones working on something. Especially since some were able to keep root after updating
I can replicate the issue you are talking about in the messaging app. About an inch of the screen at the top is slightly darker. But only noticeable on certain colors. I tried all sorts of pictures and other things, I can only see it in the messaging all. The issue is there with all screen modes.
The S II had a very similar issue. There was a triangle of screen that was lighter than the rest, and under certain circumstances you could see black splotches. But both issues were only apparent when you worked hard to see it, but never under "normal" use.
From what I understand having a little inconsistency in AMOLED screens is unavoidable. I would rather have this issue than the washed out colors of an LCD screen, personally. I would wager the issue is probably there on every S4 if you look hard enough, it was on every S II I ever saw.
The only issue I saw that I felt was worth getting a new device was burn in. On the Captivate it happened after about 6 months, the S II about 9 months. I'm hoping that Trend (each phone lasting longer than previous gen until it burns in) continues with the Note, S III, Note II, on to the S4.

This seems to be a common issue. I'm on my third s4.
Phone 1: vertical lines
Phone 2: pink tint at bottom (screen darker at the bottom)
Phone 3: pink tint at top (screen darker at the top)
You can try exchanging it but there's no guarantee you will get a better screen. In fact you may get a worse one.
The qc on these phones seem to be pretty awful.
If the problem isn't too bad I would just keep it and try to get used to it.
The galaxy s2 had an issue where the left side of the screen had a yellow tint compared to the right side. Samsung eventually came out with an update to fix this issue. Hopefully they do the same with this problem.

Touché - I'm on my FIFTH S4 already. I documented the 1st 3, but I've lost patience now... I don't know what to do further???
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/304256-s4-screen-uniformity-issues.html
This has been common with quite a few of the phones I've had. It's more of a yellowish tint at the bottom. I read that its most likely the glue that they use and that it will correct itself with time. I just never waited long enough to see if that was the case and always exchanged them.

where is your phone made from? mine is made in korea, it works perfectly. I heard the ones that are made elsewhere has lower build quality.

Loose/misaligned home button?

Anyone else have a slightly loose home button? Mine is only very slightly loose but it regularly looks misaligned. I think the problem is the cut out for the button is actually a little bigger on one side so there is room for it to wiggle up and down. I can tell this because of the lines across the bezel. I don't think it is enough of a problem to return it on warranty so it will probably slowly drive me mad over the next few months. I'll take a picture later to try and show it.

It seems to be the same problem the Note 3 had. From reading that it seems there might not be much point point sending it back as users who did got the phone back and it still had the issue. Might see about swapping it for a new unit with the retailer I bought from
Here is a couple of pics, it was really hard to get it to focus for some reason despite me having a good camera? But you can see it is crooked with the left side higher than the right, you can even see the small gap along the top of the button towards the right side in the pic where the screen is on.
Mine has a distinctive click sound when i press it and takes a bit more force over the note 2
re: loose button on note 4
Yeah mines slighly loose too. I checked out two other ones in seperate stores and they all seem to have minor play in their home buttons. I even compared it to the note 3 they also had on display and it felt identical. It looks to me like its a common "feature" for the note series. Looking at the disassembly videos on youtube shows that the button isnt really adheared to anythingand iis simply pinched between the frame and glass. With that knowledge, its easy to understand why the button has some play in it without worrying too much about it. Even if you swap it for another one, its gonna be the same with maybe a slight difference in tolerences but overal it will be loose sooner or later. Same story goes for the power and volume buttons.
As for me however, ive got this is issue with the oleophobic coating right under the home button which according to Videotron in Montreal Canada, Isn't covered by warranty even if the phone is only a week old!! For some reason the oleophobic coating is missing under my home button which leaves a bunch of fingerprints just under it. Its a pain to look at especially since its freaken brand new and shouldn't have this happening so early on. But so far Videotron has NOT honored any kind of replacement warranty to me and informed that so long as it doesn't hinder the usability of the device, its wont be covered. I think Thats the lamest after sale service Ive hade to date and can't believe that they don't stand behind their products.

Yeah I think you're right. The little bit of play I don't mind but it seems the resting position for the button on my phone is always slightly crooked. Nobody else even notices it until I point it out to them. I've emailed Samsung to see what they say but I think I'm just resigned to living with it.
Thats crap about you oleophobic coating, I find with new phones it wears off after a few months anyway so eventually the whole front will be a fingerprint magnet!
Here's some pics of the oleophobic coating defect I was describing from my previos post.
Exchanged my Note 4 for a new one and it is much better, hardly any play in the button. Maybe I'm overanalysing it but it still looks ever so slightly crooked, I can live with it though.

how much play is there now, compared to before? my note edge has a similar "problem". not really a big deal for me personally,
but it's kind of annoying. it's not very noticeable though, i have to look real close to even see any crookedness.
i can barely notice that my home button ever so slightly moves if i push it with my fingernail, but it's not like it's loose or anything.
i guess this is just the way it's supposed to be. working as intended and all that.
still wish the home button would be like the one on my note II. not jiggly, and nearly no clicking sound.
Every Galaxy devices I've come across, whether in the stores or personally speaking, have a misaligned home button, looks more prominent on one side compared to the other. Unfortunately, shows Samsung's innovation. I've been through over a dozen Note 4's, the AT&T variants had an extremely loose feel, whereas the T-Mobile variant is just about right.

When going through the return and exchange process for the Note 4's, each home button had its distinctive feel, some felt squishy on the left side with a significant gap between the right side and display. One home button even had a noticeable scratch on the aluminium part of the button.
Regarding the Oleophobic coating, its advised to never clean the display with water or oily hands. Install a screen protector from day one. 70% isopropyl alcohol is the way to go.

If you press hard enough you can actually re-position and resettle the button more to the right to fill that gap you were referring to. I've felt buttons in the which which felt like something protruding through the middle as I move my index finger from left to right (edge-to-edge) on the home button.

It will look slightly crooked to you because Samsung never added adequate cushioning to keep the button centered. Overtime, the button will settle itself. Some Note 4's, even as seen in previous Galaxy phone, have light from the capacitative phones leaking between the gap of the home button and capacitative buttons; best seen in dark-room settings.

Over time, the home button wears off a bit. Every Galaxy device I've owned, I've always added a piece of scotch tape on the home button to not mess up with the alignment, etc. Everytime it came to reselling the device, the home button would feel as new to the subsequent owner as it did to me.

Its definitely the way its supposed to be. Some home buttons will even appear flushed / recessed whereas some will even looked elevated sticking out from the display. Samsung doesn't take this into account in their QC process, because they add the minimum adhesive to make the plastic home button work. If they had changed their materials and design a bit, would have made a dramatic difference; but they didn't since the Galaxy S2 days.

To say the issue doesn't exist, doesn't mean you're wrong, its just how far your eyes can see. The majority paid over $700 for a device which is suppose to compete with the inferior iPhone. Samsung had to make some compromise somewhere. Samsung believes and priorities in profits and margins, manufactures virtually everything in the IT Sector, and doesn't have the caliber to keep a quality control basis or invest in the amount of innovation compared to Apple; however the INTERNAL technology in Samsung's phones will always be superior, because they innovate and design them, from SoC's to Display technology ; Apples priorities their development based on innovation, patents, and EXTERNAL design more over their profits and margins, their most recent report is mere coincidence.
great answer there man, thanks :good:
just something we have to live with then
overall, i'm very satisfied with my note edge. but with such an expensive and high-end device it's easy to get
caught up in the details, such as this very very minor flaw found in the home button alignment.
like i stated earlier, mine isn't really that crooked, but it's just obvious enough to take note of it. about 0.5 mm difference between the right and
the left side of the button i would say. it's literally almost nothing at all, but for the "trained eye" it might cause some headache.
i suppose the only thing to do about this is to accept things the way they are.
hey, my home button works. that's the most important thing. it's not loose by any means.
i actually paid about 8000 norwegian krones for my phone (1000 us dollars) for this phone, off contract.
it's expensive. this is also probably why i'm very aware of any possible "defect" or "fault" to the device.
great phone though. no regrets :good::good: :cyclops:
I'll quote you, for the "trained eye" it might cause some headache.
There are other faults in the display as well, which we can blame AMOLED technology on.
Its not good to know too much. :silly:
I'm glad my ownership with this device is pretty much a lease with T-Mobile. Once I reach $375 in payments, I'll be off to the Galaxy S6 or Note 5, whichever suits me first.

don't know exactly what you are referring to when you say faults in the display, but as far as i know i haven't noticed
much to report, except for some weird and very light tendencies of "shadow artifacts" to the left of the app icons
on my edge display. this is only something i barely was able to see if i scrolled up and down through the edge display.
the app icons caused some darkened areas on the left side of the edge display, but this is hard to depict and
probably just me seeing things. if i covered the edge display with a piece of paper the effect was no longer to be seen.
if i removed the paper, the "shadows" were still there. (only covered the app icons, and by doing this the shadows disappeared while scrolling).
we could go on like this for ages though, there will always be something..
i'm also keen on getting my hands on either the note 5 / note edge II (?) or the S6. the note edge is by all means a fantastic device,
and i'll stick to it until i feel the urge to move on. S6 / S6 edge = just around the corner :good:
Yep, the display issues are less visible on the Note Edge thanks to the curved area which tends to mask the tint effect. The shadowing is as a result of the Pentile Matrix used on the display, not a true RGB panel. However, close-enough. Samsung is a funny company nowadays, sometimes releases phones with AMOLED sRGB panels and sometimes Pentile. The best display to date was on the Note 2. I don't know why I was so keen on selling that beast.

are you familiar with the "shadowing" on the note edge? i've asked around, but so far people have told me i'm seeing things
that aren't there. quite a nut though, that these shadows seen to the left of my app icons disappear if i cover my edge display
while scrolling it. the shadows appear to the far right of my main display, right next to the edge. funny how i cannot see them
if i cover the edge display itself, but hey, i'm a novice.. and until today i thought my eyes were only playing tricks on me
i'll be quite interested to see what kind of display samsung will use on their coming flagship phones.
fingers crossed the home buttons will be a tad better, but let's not get too optimistic
The shadow you are are talking about is an anomaly as a result of Samsung's manufacturing of the curved screen. Not all the screens are curved equally. In each and every screen has a slight variation as seen in the regular Note 4 as well. Samsung has gone to far. They can't maintain consistent quality control. There's a thread in the accessories section of the forum for the Note 4, and many are reporting how substandard the screens are in terms of equal curvature on both sides. I'm very sure the same principle applies to edge, where on Note Edge might have a greater degree of curvature compared to another Note Edge Unit. This is why I didn't purchase the Edge this time around. It always takes eons for Samsung to understand what we all are facing with their products. It took them four years to correct the black color in their AMOLED screens, 5 years to figure out a metal frame was more viable than plastic frame, and the list goes on. Sam-sung needs to start listening to their customers if they want to regain trust, business, and move beyond the competition.

that aren't there. quite a nut though, that these shadows seen to the left of my app icons disappear if i cover my edge display
while scrolling it. the shadows appear to the far right of my main display, right next to the edge. funny how i cannot see them
if i cover the edge display itself, but hey, i'm a novice.. and until today i thought my eyes were only playing tricks on me
i'll be quite interested to see what kind of display samsung will use on their coming flagship phones.
fingers crossed the home buttons will be a tad better, but let's not get too optimistic

Sam-sung needs to start listening to their customers if they want to regain trust, business, and move beyond the competition.

very true my friend. and yes, the edge is a new concept, at least in this format. S6 will also be available with a curved screen they say.
quite interested in seeing what changes they've made, if any, and how the display acts accordingly.
all these minor issues is evidently a biproduct of innovation. truthfully i must admit i'm quite impressed samsung
has the balls to step up their game and try out new things, even though this edge concept might still be in its early stages
of development, and there are many things that could be improved. i hope they'll find a way to polish things correctly. if they do,
this might be a potential game changer. we'll find out, sooner or later :good:
despite the anomalies that may occur (or do occur) i find the edge to be very useful. it really adds the edge (quite literally) to the functionality of
the note, which has been superb thus far, at least in most cases. last note i had (and still have) is the note II though.. two generations apart, and
several differences big enough to make these phones very alike in their own ways. all respect to the note II though.. quite the champ!
I would have opted for the Note Edge had case manufacturers stepped up their game in manufacturing cases for this gem. Also, I was a bit disgruntled when Samsung chose to go with a plastic frame instead of metal for the Note Edge. Hopefully the S6 and subsequent generation of Galaxy phones will all be streamlined into one manufacturing standard.
