[Q] Average storage space available in a brand new 16GB N10? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I'm thinking in getting a Nexus 10. I currently have both Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 16 GB. So far for me in the N7 16 GB has been enough, I'm not a big gamer and consume most of media (movies, pictures, music, etc) from cloud services, the lowest space I ever had was 3 GB available.
That being said, I'm thinking in getting the 16 GB Nexus 10, I really think that 100 extra bucks for 16 GB more is too expensive and if the Nexus 10 of 16 GB has at least the 12 GB available when new I think that would be enough for me. Can anybody share what is the storage available in new 16 GB nexus 10?
What is you opinion guys? are 16 GB enough for this scenario?
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
p.s. there is also the fact that the nexus 10 supports OTG, so I can connect external storage devices if required.

13.05GB

[Q] What is the actual memory of the Nexus 4?

Let's say I buy the 8GB Nexus 4, how much actual memory will I have? I know it's 8GB, but I'm wondering how much memory will the system files take.
on the 16gb version you have a 13gb of free space
Between 5 and 5.5gb of free space.
for 8 Gb I think around 5 free after a few apps
ohh that's quite small and plus its non expandable I'll have to wait for the 16gb, my first nexus device hopefully:fingers-crossed:

They're both coming out at the same time, so no waiting (unless you mean saving up the extra cash).

[Q] How does nexus 7 handles partion??

[Q] RAM Usage

The Nexus 4 comes with 2GB ram, that's awesome. What I want to know, however, is how much of that is actually available after booting? I was looking at my girlfriend's Galaxy Nexus, which has 1GB ram, and she has just under 200MB ram free with Android 4.2. Does this translate to 1200MB free on the nexus 4, or does it simply gobble the ram that you have up, regardless?
As the nexus 4 isn't available unless you pay extortion prices on ebay, I need to find out if it'll be worth waiting for, or if I should simple settle for a 1GB phone.
I havent rebooted the phone for a couple of days now. Also im using a live wallpaper plus a couple of services like skype/lightflow/facebook etc etc.
The multitasking on this device is unmatched. Do not settle for a 1GB RAM device .

:crying: That's both what I was hoping for and what I was afraid of. I don't want to settle for a 1GB device, but as google is completely unable to deliver this phone, I may soon not have a choice. It also doesn't help that my colleague at work got his nexus 4 the other day... Perhaps I'll just have to bite the bullet and get it off of eBay? Any sellers in Berlin, Germany wanting to part with theirs?
never run out of ram or even gone below 500mb free ram on the n4. even with ****loads of apps, games and heavy duty work running in the bg...
I know what you mean. This phone is such a great device and the price is unbelievable, but the problem lies with actually getting one(unless you live in the US). I myself had to get one through a relative of mine who lives in the US, and i had him send it all the way to Jordan .. Its worth it though ^^`.
If you could get one off ebay for like $50 more than the Play Store's price, get it. My opinion …

Bit the bullet
In the end I bit the bullet and got mine on eBay. I ended up paying a 110 EUR premium, but that's only 11 EUR more than I would have paid if I'd gone to the store and gotten a GSIII, and that only has 1 GB of RAM...
I just hope that I get what I think I'm getting, and not a box of spiders or something...
At boot, i usually have about 1.4gb free with about 130 apps

The adreno 320 GPU can handle almost anything, I don't get any lag on HD games such as Real Racing 3. The RAM isn't an issue, 2gb is more than enough. I got 12.92 GB available storage on my 16GB unit.

8 vs 16 Gb

Hello guys.
Is the a difference bettween Nexus 4 with 8 Gb and Nexus 4 With 16Gb?
I want to buy it but I can't aford the 16 Gb.
Thanks in advance.
Only difference is storage.

Coming from a 16GB Galaxy SIII (which also had a 16GB SD Card in it) I thought there was no way I could buy the 8GB Nexus 4, so I opted for the 16GB.
The 16GB version comes with 12.92GB of available storage due to space taken by the operating system.
Funniest part is, I currently have 11.74GB available.
I could have easily went with the 8GB version. I used to store all my music and photos on my phone, but now that I have integrated into the cloud (Google+ automatically uploads my photos as I take them with my camera and I uploaded every album/song I own to my Google Music account) I find that storing media is completely unnecessary for me.
This may not be a good solution for those who do not have unlimited data or are constantly in areas with no data connection, but for me it's perfect.
just storage size but dont get 8gb if you're going to put ANY music on your phone. 16gb user here and it's still annoying...
Of course it depends on your storage preference. So look at your phone that you have now, what do you keep stored on your phone?
I wasn't sure and bought the 16GB before, but I only use a couple of GB's so most of my storage is empty....
I bought the 16GB nexus thinking there's no way 8 will be enough for me. But i don't think I've ever went over 6GB of storage. I only keep a few songs that I really like (30ish), and 2 or 3 big 3D games. I delete whatever I don't need immediately, like old rom zip, etc.
Guess I'm too organized to take advantage of the extra storage.
I have the 8gb and its plenty if space. So long as u don't save a bunch nandroid backups they take up alOt of space. I use dropbox ALOT now and just store what music I want at any given time on my device. Like maybe 2 GB of music. Also I don't store multiple ROMs no more than 2 at a time anymore. I didn't think I could live with 8gb but I still have almost 2gb left lol.

Thanks for the answers guys!
i think i go for 8 GB Nexus.
Thanks alot!!
I bought the 16 GB version just to be sure I wouldn't go out of space, but I still have 8,82 GB free without storing any music or movies on the phone, just the photos taken with te camera and lot of apps (about 3 GB due to heavy games).
I think could have bought the 8 GB version, but I'm happy with my decision.

32 gb is a serious letdown

I was planning to buy the follow up nexus tablet for more than a year now, but the specs are such a let down! My biggest gripe is the max 32 gb storage. I'm OK with 16gb being base, I was never going to get 16 gb anyway. But 32 gb as maximum storage is just too little. I don't need an sd-card and sure I can put some stuff in the cloud, but I won't have wifi at all times! Maybe in the USA, but not where I live. (I don't even prefer cloud services for everything)
Even the nexus 6 has 64 gb of storage, and that's a phone which has a sim card and is almost always connected to the internet! Same with RAM. Why would you put less ram in a tablet and more in a smaller phone? Same with screen. Why use lower resolution on the n9 than on the n6? It makes no sense to me. If all can be crammed in a smaller package, then why not in a bigger package with a bigger battery.
Not to mention the 80$ for an increase in 16 gb.
32 gb....
Agreed, 32 GB max is too little. So is 2 GB for ram : what will be left for apps when the video memory will be deduced ?
But my thought on this is that Google wanted HTC to have a place under the sun : I wouldn't be surprised to find out before Xmas or shortly thereafter (Lollipop exclusivity for X months, maybe, just enough to let all other makers develop their own offering) that HTC has tablets ready just to address those weaknesses, and maybe add a micro-sd reader to the mix.
32gb is plenty for me. My current tablet only has 16gb and I don't even use 50% of the storage space.
Yeah the storage or lack thereof is probably the biggest letdown. Its sad to see Apple making Google look foolish in this regard. Can't even really say that cost is the reason with numerous 128GB consumer SSD options for ~$100. I really don't get it. The weird part when you think about it, is that the Nexus Player seems to be the best part of yesterday's announcement.

Totally agree except I thought nexus 6 and 9 both had same resolution?
And I think nexus 6 should have just got 2 GB of ram and made it cheaper.
And I wouldn't even hesitate to get the nexus 9 if the 32 GB was 399. But 480 is way too much for just increased storage. The storage increase probably doesn't cost them more than a few dollars. Now they're acting like Apple who charge 100 more. I used to like that they only charged 50 more

I wish the Nexus 9 had the following pricing options concerning storage: I may not necessarily need the 64GB version, but not providing it as an option stinks.
16 GB - $399
32 GB - $449
64 GB - $499
16GB storage shouldn't even be an option in this day and age. 32GB and above should be the norm. Was hoping Google would lead by example here instead of skimping out
Its not a bad idea to just get the 16gb version, then get a 64gb OTG flash drive for $40.

16 gb is still a viable option because there are so many people out there still using a fraction of the 16 gb provided to them.
More storage options other than 32 should be there, but hey, don't ya think htc/google thought about it?

Let me preface the obvious: this is all IMO. Having said that, I am constantly juggling games and keeping a watch on storage because 16GB just doesn't cut it. Considering that the most popular apps are games, and they've deprecated the usefulness of an external SD storage, they really should up that status quo. The N6 is a good step, the N9 with 16GB seems all the more bizarre in comparison.
If the Nexus 9 had a proper AMOLED screen and more storage it would be amazing but I'm extra glad I got a Tab S now. No point to AOSP if the hardware is lacking. The only reason to lust for N9 is K1 and that just isn't enough.

Will OTG be full supported? This is what I'm thinking.
I've never maxed out my space in my entire life with my smartphones. I couldn't care less.

That would include me. I have no reason to spend more money to buy a 32GB tablet (or phone).

I'm more disappointed by the lack of wireless charging. I have it on my Nexus 7 and a Galaxy S4, and it's spoiled me. Feels like I'd be going backwards by not having it.
My two biggest gripes are wireless charging and the max 32gb. The only thing that makes this remotely palatable is the MicroSD slot but still a 128GB card is going to add $100 to the cost just to get this to the point where it's as functional as an iPad.
A little disappointed given the hype that they were intending to "compete" with the Apple in the high end arena.
The rest of the specs are enough though that I am probably a buyer...

No MicroSD slot. That's why we're all complaining.
What do you guys use memory for? I use the majority for my music, I travel with my entire library which is 40GB, but I'm planning to keep the hard copy on my S4 and just use the cloud for N9. Still probably going to get the 32GB N9 to fit more movies and tv shows.
