Galaxy S4 - Control Music Tracks w/ Volume or Home Button? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm always used to using the volume buttons on my phone to change tracks but I can't do it on my S4 unless I flash a custom non touchwiz rom. Which I dont want tondo because it'll delete all the touchwiz features on my S4. Is there any way to change my music tracks using the volume or home button?

Sorry there's no way to do this on stock, that is why I'm running CM10.1 which can do all that you are talking about and more.

Will the features from roms such as CM 10.1, AOKP & PA be available on a custom Touchwiz rom?

you CAN in fact do it on a stock rooted rom.. if u don't know how to do it simply say so. but please don't mislead someone. to do it, just install xposedInstaller 2.1.4, and xposedtweakbox 1.4.0 then go to the misc section of tweakbox, enable it and then reboot.

Thanks!! Just what I was looking for.

Sorry guys I honestly thought there was no way, while I was on stock I was looking for an iron but I couldn't find it...

I installed all the software and followed the steps above, however PowerAmp still would not change track with the volume keys held down when the screen is off.
I'm using WanamLite Rom.

Hello,
me neither. I also tried the two apps, mentioned above, but won't work at all
hope someone will find a solution in the future

Still no solution to this?

Will that replace the Adam Kernel in my WanamLite firmware? Will it cause conflicts or issues?
Thanks in advance.

No, it's framework, not a kernel. Also you shouldn't have problems if your rom is aosp and deodexed.

I think WanamLite is based off the stock Samsung firmware and framework. I don't think it's AOSP and I don't know what de-odexing is, apologies.

Just install Headset Button Controller from the market.
Its soooo good I bought it!

Ya I tried the 2 apps u posted didnt work after rebooting twice but unchecked/unmodified everything that "I" checked/modified in the module except the volume then did a soft boot and that worked. idk if it was just all the thing i checked/modified or the soft boot or it just needed a 3rd reboot

Advanced Quicksettings MOD for Stock 4.3

Hi,
I would like to ask If there is any MOD for add advanced Quick Settings (Add more toggles, delete, reorder) for new Android 4.3.

[MOD] Skip music tracks with Volume buttons (KRT16M/Stock ROM deodexed)

Hi guys,
new phone, new mods, here we go:
In the attachment you'll find the modded android.policy.jar for flashing to skip music tracks with long press Volume buttons while screen is off/in your pocket.
IMPORTANT: Your system has to be deodexed, otherwise you'll end in a bootloop!
Flash the zip in your recovery and enjoy!
Updated the OP with a flashable zip for your recovery (CWM/TWRP).
Why has no one tried this yet so I can know if it's legit or not? Lol how about a volume boost mod??

I tried, because I made the mod
It's working like a charm.
Either you flash the stock deodexed ROMs here in the forum, or you deodex yourself with xUltimate, it is just simple.
You don't even need to do a factory reset after deodexing, so no worry.
To clarify: deodexed apk's work on all ROMs, deodexed or odexed. Look into your system apps, some are odexed, some deodexed, no problem.
If you change anything in the jar-files of the framework, you can't mix up odex and deodex, so you have to decide.
Most theming and modding is done in the framework and it is by far easier to do this in deodexed files.
Quick question..
When you enable ART, the phone reboots and you see the apps are being "optimized". Takes a pretty long time. Any relation to deodexed Roms? I mean, would this app work or would a separate deodexed ROM still have to be installed? Thanks.

The mod sends a media broadcast. Every app that supports this will respond. It seems that Pandora doesn't support such broadcasts - or, it supports it but Google Music is the first app to respond, you can check this with freezing Google Music. What happens then?

I think it only happens that way if google music is still active in memory. It used to happen to me occasionally, and if I went in and force stopped gmusic, it started working correctly.
Well, ok.
Unfortunately that's nothing I can influence by myself as it depends on all apps which are able to receive a media broadcast. Your behaviour will most likely happen too if you use a cable or bluetooth headset for changing music tracks, have you tried that?
thx for the mod but it disables my extended reboot menu. any idea why?
Yes, because the Power Reboot Menu is done in android.policy.jar too
Two options: Decide which mod you like most, or wait for someone who puts those two mods together.
Will there be odex version?
Not from me, sorry. Don't own the N5 anymore
Sad... This music skip option is only reason I would use CM...
Maybe need to flash deodexed rom?

Using a guide I found elsewhere on the forum, I have re-odexed this mod. Just place these files in your /system/framework/ (you might need to remount the partition to do this) and reboot. I have tested this on my Nexus 5 and my friend's Nexus 5 both rooted but still using stock rom. Please let me know if this worked for you!

You can try Nitrous ROM, it's stable with dalvik, don't change it to ART. BTW, Nitrous already have this mod built in.
Can a ODEX version be done? Some of us still prefer Stok Rom for now. Thanks for your contribution.

[MOD][KTU84P/M] CPU setting and stats in Dev options l 4.4.4 stock l de/odex

I have created here a cool mod for our N5,
with this you can set the processor clock (with Stock Rom KTU84P or KTU84M).
Odex and deodex version online.
A huge thanks goes to Pandemic (HowTo) and ZN6 (because of the required apk's).
With both consent, I have created a version for our Nexus 5 with 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 Stock Rom.
Odex and deodexed versions.
With this mod, it is possible to adjust the CPU clock and view the CPU statistics.
Without custom kernel!
Don't forget, credits goes to Pandemic and ZN6, for their work.

Hello Marco,
I really like this mod but I would like to change the text and background color. It should fit to the normal "black" background of android, can you tell me where to change which values in which file? I would give it a try :cyclops:
Best regards and thank you very much in advance

Capacitive buttons

The capacitive (menu and back) buttons have stopped working. I got them to work for a few minutes after rebooting a few times, but now nothing.
Full reset and reflash did not help. Also tried reseating a few connections inside, no help there either.
There were no software changes, no updates when this started. We started noticing this happening mostly on the Facebook virus, I mean app. Now I got nothing even on a clean flash.

It's probably a hardware issue.
I guess I can find a way to enable the on screen buttons. Maybe an exposed module or is there a standalone app?

Some ROMs have that feature built in.
There are also apps that give you Pie controls.
You can also edit a file somewhere and it enables the on-screen navigation bar. Remember, android supports it natively, it's just disabled on phones with hardware keys.

As I said, android supports the navigation bar natively. So flashing another ROM isn't really necessary.
You just have to edit a file, but I can't remember which. A Google search should help you further.
Do note that you have to be rooted.
But if you're really keen on flashing a new ROM, ROMs like Resurrection Remix or AICP definitely have the navigation bar option in the settings menu.
The optimized CM ROMs by the JDCTeam also have it. Standard CM should have it too.
