While I've enjoyed the FireTV, I've found that some of the programs I use on it are choked by the 100 megabit port (such as the HD Homerun View app), and I'd tried a couple of other USB LAN connectors without success. It seems the Android software doesn't have built in support for many USB gigabit products. This one was on sale (with a coupon) and I figured even if it didn't work, I'd still have 3 USB 3.0 ports, but lo and behold, the Fire recognizes not only the USB but the gigabit port, which helps with the throughput from other parts of my network, including the HD Homerun View app. On the app, HD channels are actually watchable, including DRM channels in HD.
I searched the forums, and saw others looking for the same, so figured I'd report my findings.
the plugable USB2.0 -> "gigabit" ethernet adapters i used on my Gen1 ATV work fine with the firetv as well.
Note that fireTV is usb2.0 only, so your network is limited to ~400 megabits due to the USB Bus speed but it will negotiate at 1000mbps.

I'd tried a couple of the Pluggables without success. Maybe it was the firmware updates and my timing. And right about the limitations of throughput; maybe my experience is more perception than reality, but for the price ($13 with coupon) the improvement coupled with the additional USB ports make it worthwhile.
Can you post the model/part numbers of the Pluggables you've had success with in the event others are looking to attempt the same thing?
this topic has been discussed numerous times already, FireTv has USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0 so those gigabit adapters will work, just not yeild gigabit speeds.

Wait for the Forge TV or the Nvidia Shield for gigabit speeds.
Yeah, I was looking for specific models that worked specifically with AFTV. I didn't see much along those lines, more anecdotal reports of speed and whatnot. Mods can delete this if it seems duplicative, that's fine.

How did you get this to work with your AFTV? I plugged it into the USB port and It was not recognized.

It is "Plugable" and you need an OTG adapter to use the non-OTG version:
"Since the UGREEN adapter doesn’t have OTG capabilities (which is a good thing), you’re going to need to use an OTG adapter to connect it to the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. Either this Generic OTG Adapter or this Angle OTG Adapter will work. The generic OTG adapter gives you a bit more cable length and flexibility with positioning, but the angle OTG adapter gives you a cleaner setup with fewer cables. I’ve verified that both work with the Fire TV 3 and Fire TV Stick 2, so the choice is yours" change to according to UGREEN info at AFTVNEWS.
Essentially you are adding a USB port, plus a power port to the small port on the AFTV. You still need to get a few extra USB ports in your adapter or settle for one with just Ethernet, however UGREEN and plugable sell versions that are not Gigabit and won't get 480mbps out of the 2.0, or will sacrifice the speed sharing it with the other peripherals according to some reviews.

You need an OTG "On The Go" adapter, it was an android/Linux idea that allowed plugging regular USB keyboards and devices into micro USB on a phone or tablet. You get that adapter then you plug your 10/100 Mbps or 1000 (limited to 480 on 2.0) Mbps devices. Examples are FunHome or Fun-Home left angle OTG adapter or DSYJ micro USB adapter on Amazon.
Some other cables don't have a power connector though so you might not want one without both a micro-USB and USB input.
Does anyone have tested usb lan adapters with the 9T?
I used all the time a ASIX lan adapter in my old Moto X2 with Lineage OS, so i was wondering i anyone have a "working" adapter/IC with the 9T so i can get one for me?

I tried LAN adapter on my mi 9t and i can confirm that sadly it doesn't work :/. It worked on my older Mi 4c but not on the recent models.

good news! tried a "ASIX AX88178" usb 2.0 to gigabit adapter and worked fine! don't know if is only this one, but i think newer asix usb 3.0 will work too (usb on this phone is 2.0 only)
can scan LAN and get internet from it. just need to connect on a network with DHCP ( i don't think you can set manual ip on lan on android)
beware of cheap otg adapters, some of them (tiny dongle) does not have all GND and VCC pins, so they don't get a proper "multiple connection" pins to get better amperage from phone. usb lan adapter can use a bit of power from phone

Hi, i used a otg adapter cable (make sure it works correctly with a thumb drive for example, to make sure every thing is ok and detect the device)
then i just connected the lan adapter. i would appear as if it is not working, but you need to connect to a network router/switch/etc with the cable and the leds should light up on the lan adapter. to "properly" work, you need to connect to a device with DHCP enabled (by default all lan routers have this) so it will give the phone a IP and work normally. (a network icon should appear on the notification bar)
then you can disable wifi and see if there is internet (if have it in the router) or use the network analyzer to scan the network (if it detect the device and work, you will be able to scan the network and find the devices on it)

My otg works by putting the usb memory (yes, it detects it, so OTG is right).
When I connect USB lan adapter (AX88179) to the OTG, the operation lights do not light. And the network icon does not appear on the mobile, and I havent internet. (However, with another Huawei mobile and the Huawei tablet the lights do turn on, the network icon appears, and the internet works via ethernet).
My router is connected in DHCP.
What could be the problem? I need to connect the 9t pro by cable but I can't find the way.
I thought it could be a problem with Xiaomi and 9t pro, but if you connect your 9t I suppose it is possible.
Why don't you use some small modem?

you mean connect the ethernet cable directly to a small modem and this via USB to the mobile? it would be to use the modem instead of the lan adapter, right? it's a good option, I can try it to see if it works for me.
But I still have the doubt as to why in Mi 9t pro the lan adapter does not work

Hello, I have gone to the Xiaomi store and another to fix mobile phones, in both they have told me that the ethernet option through an adapter to the 9t pro is not possible because my USB is only for transferring photos, videos (pendrive) but it is not compatible with connections. In developer options, the RNDIS option (USB ethernet) does not appear, which would be the one you would have to have to be able to do it. Do you have the RNDIS option in 9T? it would be: developer options -> default USB settings
RNDIS is for using usb <>usb connection to a computer and make a network over usb, NOT a usb lan adapter.
if usb support OTG (send power via usb to connect a device like usb pendrive) it means it "can" support any usb device, but depend only on the device to have drivers and support for the type of device.
Again, i've tested mine in MIUI and Lineage, and works fine. will post a video showing...

Thank you for your answers. In the Mi community forum, users have the same problem as mine, updates from MIUI 10 do not work for the ethernet option (my MIUI is 12.0.3.0. Another girl asked Xiaomi directly and in an email They answered that they had eliminated that option for not going "with their philosophy" (they are also eliminating the headphone jack connection in many mobiles, it can only be used by bluetooh). This is the general trend, I cannot find anyone who has found a solution Only you! Even in this forum there is a thread about rooting the mobile to make it work with ethernet (but it is too complicated for me). Also other people on the forum work the lan adapter by activating RNDIS in the developer options.
So far, none of this has worked for me.
Summary: Since I don't know exactly what the problem or compatibility is, I am going to try the AX88178 lan adapter. So, wish me luck!

mine is the same, without the case. but this one is gigabit over usb 2.0 (max around 400mbps).
a 10/100 would be enough for me, smaller and with less power consumption. will try to find a compatible chip from asix perhaps in the future

If connecting on a network without DHCP, you can add manually the ip by using "ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.100" in termux for example. i believe needs root for that. ("su" before running ifconfig)
without setting manual ip on network without DHCP, the network won't work .

I obtained an early invite to Amazon's Luna game streaming service with should work with the FireStick 4k.
I've got a 300mbps service but b/c the Firestick 4K does not have ethernet built in, I'm been using Wifi (5Ghz). I'm getting about 150Mbps with WiFi. Unfortunately I noted tons of lag when playing a game (Control) via Luna on the Firestick 4k.
I was hoping to fix the lag by providing a more stable and faster internet connection by hooking up a third party ethernet hub with a gigabyte ethernet port and a microUSB OTG adapter to the FireStick 4k to allow for a wired connection.
Here are the two products that I purchased:
- Ethernet Hub (link)
- MicroUSB OTG adapter (link)
After hooking the ethernet hub to the firestick using the microUSB OTG adapter the Firestick 4k noted right away that it was connected to the internet by a wired connection.
The problem is that my DL speeds dropped from 150 Mbps (wireless) to 70 Mbps (wired). I've read other individuals reporting the same thing (faster DL speed with wireless vs wired) with older Gen Firesticks using a third party USB ethernet adapter.
Does anyone know why this is and/or have a solution? I realize that the FireStick 4k has a USB 2.0 port so at best I would be able to get 480 Mbps but I should be able to get much higher speeds than 70 Mbps.
When hooking the same ethernet hub to my PC I get twice the speed (150 Mbps) on using a USB 1 port so I know the ethernet hub is capable of much higher speeds.
It's a bit more complicated than just having ethernet running at up to 480 Mbps through USB 2.0. You obviously have the cut-down data rates because there has to be some allocation for power through that same cable, but ethernet link speeds are not that simple. They aren't like wifi, where they adapt to the environment.
Even though you have a gigabit ethernet adapter, it is only probably using 100Mbps speeds because the Fire TV's Micro USB port cannot support anything more. Even the official adapter can only do 100Mbps, presumably because the stick doesn't have the support for faster speeds.
Hopefully, Amazon eventually switches to USB C on their TV devices, sort of like their tablets, so that we can get gigabit eventually, but until then, we have to play the waiting game.
I use a micro usb ethernet adapter with the 2nd gen Cube and get up to 350mbps.

I understand that it's not the same FireTV device but you can check out the reviews and there are a lot of fire stick users happy with it.
Because you are using a USB 3.0 device it's possible that your adapter is more power hungry. Are you using an auxillary power supply for the hub? If not, it's worth trying. An underpowered chip could give you slower speeds.
