[Q] Android App Controlling Music Playback - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, I use to use an app that allowed me to use the volume rocker buttons to control my music playback. Basically, the way it works is you quickly double click the volume up rocker to skip a song and double click the down volume rocker to replay/go back. You can use this functionality with the screen off and if you press the volume rocker at "normal" speed, it would control volume as usual. I used to use the app but since I switched to my N4, I somehow lost it and can't remember the name of the app in the play store. Any ideas?
Thanks!!

I was looking for one also and came across one called "Pocket Skip Track" on the play store.
Works great on stock 4.3 aosp. Hope that's what you were looking for!

If you are rooted, you can try any rom, all the roms here have that feature to change the song by long pressing the volume up button and play the previous song by pressing the volume down button.. I am on Slimbean and it has this feature so no need to waste the valuable space of our phones when you can get the feature in the rom itself.

Using X1 Vol key like Walkman phone

Hey guy, I've an idea.
After using SE walkman phone for years, I have some experience using it so easy to play music because of the volume key.
Now I want to map the vol key in my Xperia X1 to us it like walkman phone but I don't know how to do it.
It's like this:
-The key still active even the phone is in keylock or standby mode.
-Press up/down once to tune the system volume.
-Press and hold up/down equal to next/previous of the navigation key.
Mapping the the vol key like this make more easy to change tracks and volume while X1 is in the pocket.
This is just some idea.
very nice idea
Would not be a big job with AEBPlus in combination with MortScript. Of course depending on what Player you are using...
I only fear that it won't be possible to send the dvice to standby and still have this funktionality...
this is what i expected of the x1 before buying it, because even non-walkman phones SE have this feature, it would be great to know if this function is possible on th x1??
I think it might be possible because I've found out that Pocket Music 5.0 can mapped some key in the background use.

Thanks for this idea, i have now got a similar app called pocketplayer 4 it allows HW button mapping (However NOT the vol up/down, x panel, pick up/put down call, and camera buttons.....ONLY the d-pad and softkeys can be mapped), also the the app allows a button for sleep mode and and timed sleep mode option... so the music can be controlled with the screen off in you pocket

Is it possible to map the button on the headset which comes with the phone to control play/stop??
Yes, it is! click the link below and read carefully

This would be nice, I loved the way my old Walkman phone works. Simply skip a song or turn the music up.
If someone can map the X1buttons to do this I'm very happy. The X1 now as a mp3-player sucks.

Next track with volume keys

Coming from a phone with Cyanogen, I'm missing the next track with volume keys feature.
So far it seems that no atrix ROM have it.
Will Atrix CM7 have it?
I tried some apps to do this, here is what I got with poweramp music player:
- "Next track": not working
- "Next song": not working
- "Just shake": works with double tap on volume keys (shake feature can be disabled and volume keys enabled). Also taping up down or down up quickly pauses music, but doesn't unpause ^^
I would say that double tap on volume keys for next track is not as good as long press, it causes too many errors so often makes volume change...
If anyone have a better solution, please tell
Maybe a good music player with this feature built in?
I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in beta 3 thread it works. Either wait for that or keep app searching

Volume rocker

Is there a way for the volume keys to only control media volume instead of its default behavior which sets ringer volume?
Running CM7 nightlies

Bump again
When you're in a media app, the volume keys should control media volume.
Of course, I know that. But I want to control media volume at all times. There is no ringtone to adjust.
Is there an app I can use to remap the keys or something?
I would like this myself.

Keysmod will let you remap the volume keys but I'm not sure that will do what you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965023
You might want to check out Volume Control, which overlays a touch bar on your screen that can control media volume. There are several apps on Android Market called Volume Control; you want the one by BigRedPepper.

Doesn't look like it does, someone in the thread wants to do the same thing as I do.

Thanks, but that isn't something I'm interested in.
I'm interested in this as well.
thereddog, have you had any success remapping the volume keys to control media volume by default instead of ringer volume?

[Q] Does any ROM allow skipping songs in Google Play Music App using volume buttons?

I use Google Play Music App for streaming music to the nexus 4. If I'm using google navigation then it is a hassle to switch to and from the music and navigation app to skip the song.
Is there any ROM which allows skipping songs in google play music app using volume control button?
CM10.1....... screen off, long press volume rocker seeks music tracks.

I need the skipping to work with screen on (since navigation app will not switch the screen off).
This should help!

Use the notification bar and press > on the notification bar?
I don't see it mentioned that songs can be skipped in screen on mode in AOKP rom. CM only lets skipping to happen if screen is off.
Does AOKP allow songs to be skipped using volume buttons with screen on?
it's going to be hard to find this feature. maybe it's easier to find headphones/buds with built-in media buttons

[Stock] Skip music tracks with Volume buttons & bluetooth headset button

Hello,
I have searched on the forum but there is talk of changes only on deodexed Rom.
I would like to have the ability to change song with volume keys on stock (rooted) rom. I did it with cyanogen on my s3 but on the nexus is not possible.
My second question is always about changing songs.
I bought a Philips shb9100 bluetooth headset. On many phones you can go forward or backward by pressing the volume knob once, returning to its normal position and then immediately hold down the wheel again. This does not work on the nexus 5.
Does anyone know an app that can be useful?
Thanks to all,
xSl

try Frinky Music Controller (No root required)
I always wanted to have an app which controls music with volume keys but i could not find any which does it smoothly. So I developed my own . My app Frinky Music Controller on GOOGLE PLAY controls music with volume keys and smartly controls music volume. It supports more 200 music players and Spotify. It works on both rooted and non-rooted phones.
Some features of the app are :
Next Song -- press volume UP key single time to play next song.
Previous Song -- use volume DOWN key to play previous song.
Control Volume -- when we want to control music volume , most of the time we press volume key more than once (next time when you adjust volume , feel it) . So the app uses this tendency of users as a function to control music volume i.e press volume key more than once to adjust volume.
Stop song -- Oh! you play music in your class in absence of professor here comes the professor .... turn off the music quickly by UP+UP+DOWN+DOWN key action (it takes less time than muting the volume and unlocking the screen .
Sleep Timer : Single sleep timer for all your music apps.
Manually control app's service : well to understand this feature you will have to download the app.
It consumes very less amount of ram.
