Nexus 4 system sound volume issues. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Android noob here coming from the iOS world and loving my N4 stock. Anyone have a workaround for the low volume on voice calls? I notice when using GrooveIP with my GV account, volume issue is non existent. At first I thought it was a straight talk issue but realized it's happening on most features including music and notifications. Other than this, Iove my Nexus 4!!
TIA

I am not really sure what you mean. The Nexus 4 is the loudest phone I have ever had. Did you turn up the volume/enable speakerphone?

Really? I find it very low especially during conversations. I have volume settings all max level. On VoIP it sounds much louder which tells me it's a software issue. SMH

Random "click" noise

Every now and then, when opening an app or using the system buttons at the bottom, a very short "click" noise comes from the speaker. I have my N4 on silent/vibrate all the time and it is not an operating system noise that's meant to be there because its random. The best way to describe it is that it seems like the phone is "accidentally" starting to play a sound then stopping because its realised its in silent mode.
Anyone else getting this? Views on this problem?
(It happened again as I was typing this, so it happens through the the keyboard key presses as well)

Media Volume
Maybe you have to turn down the media volume.
I don't have a nexus 4, but I do get that random click noise on my incredible s as well, and from many different roms. I am not sure what it is, though.
Key press noise in settings turn it off may stop it the Gnex had this issue and still does

I get that click noise occasionally on my HTC HD2.
Running PACMAN 4.1.2 Jellybean at the moment.
I had this issue as well. I just turned off touch sounds and all is well.
I should note that I have keyboard sounds enabled and I do not experience the random clicking noise.
It seems to be isolated to the enabling of touch sounds, whether on vibrate or any audible volume.

Could it possibly be the autofocus that people are taking about?

I have the autofocus rattle issue as well. But I rarely if ever would shake my phone like that.
At this point I am just grateful that I got my phone, let alone got my phone earlier than projected. There are a lot of people that would love to hear the rattling of the autofocus on their N4.

Power Management
Ok... I think this is correct,
The audio chip like most other IC's are entering power saving mode milliseconds after you hear any audio so the small click is the powering up and down of the audio hardware... Many phones do this and many people don't notice it.
It's quite normal but if you have very good hearing it might bother some more then others.

It seems like a touch sound issue.
Make sure you've got touch sounds turned off by going:
Settings > Sound > Touch Sounds (disable the checkbox)

Its weak I can't even notice it while its on NY table my s3 was perfect vibrations were great

I'm the same, I barely notice the vibrations. This is in comparison to my Bother's Blackberry Curve which makes me jump out of my skin when it vibrates. I guess it's good that we have the LED at the front so we don't miss messages.

[Q] how to disable high volume popup.

Hi
Every time I switch my phone off and on and try to listen to music I always crank up the volume to the Max. However , with that I always get a popup saying that its dangerous to listen to music so loud ...
Any way of removing it permanently ?

You can go to Settings>Sound and disable "Safe headset volume" or find something else at Sound that might cause it, I can't tell you exactly because i don't have the phone myself.
No such options on stock rom any other suggestions ?

I also want to know how to disable this annoying pop up, worst thing is you absolutely need to press ok to crank up the volume.... I hate it!!

Isn't this a European law of some kind or are you guys in the USA? If you go deaf Google can't be sued if they warned you...

I've noticed the custom ROMS are adding this option to disable to there settings menu but I still can't find instructions or a mod to kill this in stock.

Microphone sensitivity too high

Any way to fix this? Voxer makes me sounds way too loud even if I hold it arms length from me. Sounds fine if I talk from my nexus 7 tho. Nexus 4 the Mic gain is too high.

Am I really the only one with this problem?
Maybe its Paranoid Android?
Tried different kernels... no difference.

I noticed that I did pick up unwanted noise on recording videos, but really I would rather it be too sensitive than not enough.

Call volume low?

My call volume is set to the highest level and when I am in a call it's just barely loud enough.
An I alone here? On Verizon.

I've found you have to have your ear flush with the phone. I'm used to angling my ear when talking. It makes a big difference on volume.

It does make a big difference, but the volume is still the lowest I've ever had on a phone.

You need to exchange. mine working great better than my previous phone z3
I agree, you should contact Motorola.
Had this issue with my Nexus 6 sometimes. Always left that one at max call volume. I had to actually turn the volume down 1-2 notches during calls on the MXP. I would also say to contact Motorola.
I'll give Motorola a call.
The volume isn't super quiet, its fine if I'm in a quiet room, but if I'm at a bar or restaurant its going to be really tough to hear anything.
I use an app call HeyTell for 20 second voice messages and that plays loudly in the earpiece so I know it isn't hardware related.

log into my verizon go to features and activate advanced calling aka hd voice then in cellular settings you will have enhanced 4g lte option. Select that.
Remember in order to speak with someone over HD voice on Verizon someone else also has to have active hd voice: galaxy s5,s6,iphone 6 etc.... all those newer phones.
I love HD voice it's super clear.

Were you able to resolve this issue?
I just received my MXPE and absolutely love it, except for the low call volume on the handset earpiece. The low volume is accompanied by some constant low level hiss. Call volume is normal and hiss is gone using any other mode (speaker phone, bluetooth, wired headset). I hate to go through an exchange since I've already got my screen protector installed and that will probably be a loss if I have to get a new phone. But if that is what it takes...
Anyway, would be interested to know what resolution you came to.
I called Motorola, actually tried a factory reset. Determined the phone needed to be replaced. Replacement should arrive today, but through Amazon since Motorola wanted another $25 to ship the replacement before I return the defective unit. A short chat with Amazon and the replacement was expedited to me overnight. Amazon for the win?
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Replacement did not fix the problem. It's looking like a Marshmallow issue. Details at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3277589.
