Speculation: T-Mobile to launch QWERTY equipped G3 in early Q3 - G2 and Desire Z General

http://androidandme.com/2012/07/sma...ile-to-launch-qwerty-equipped-g3-in-early-q3/

If only, if only...

If they do, it won't be from HTC, as HTC a while back said they were done with qwerty phones.

I think they said they're 'moving away' but not necessarily 100% done

Aye, indeed. Ur right, there is still hope from HTC. But i'd be more than happy if we got an GalaxyS3 with a hw kb. I doubt we'l get a removable battery/sd from HTC again.

Moving away does not equal "We will never make one again". Besides, releasing one keyboard model for a single carrier is not exactly a crazy notion.

Especially if you consider how many G2 users might actually renew their 2-year contract for a free upgrade to a G3. (most of my family has already done this with their own phones, and I'm eligible to upgrade as well from my G2... if there was a comparable phone for it...)

IF this happens I hope they follow suit and also release it in Canada / Worldwide under the same bands as the DZ. That's the reason the G2/DZ has such a strong community, because it's worldwide.

One would hope, it would also be more profitable for HTC to be able to sell the same phone on a worldwide market with simply different branding like they did with the G2/DZ. It's just a matter of, is there a demand for it outside of say T-Mobile users. (I would say there is, but HTC would have a better idea of the numbers).

The name Era 42 makes sense for a keyboard phone as 42 would be the perfect number of keys for a 4 row qwerty phone. The G2 has 43 including though shortcut keys and search key I never use.

Omg i hope this is true. Im getting an S3 the beginning of next month so i better hear some more news SOON.

It sounds nice but I don't think HTC will make another phone with KB. Hopefully I'm wrong because I'm an HTC fan. I see the BLAZE Q is coming out pretty soon and spec. aren't that bad.

HTC Unlock bootloader and disable NAND protection campaign

UPDATE
"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC
What is the point of this?
The idea of this is to convince htc to unlock the bootloaders and disable the NAND protection on their phones
Why should I support this?
Unlocking the bootloader and disabling the NAND protection will allow users to keep their phones up to date using custom roms such as CM7. Take the htc wildfire for example. In december 2010, HTC released a 2.2 update for the wildfire. However, hidden in this update was a new bootloader which could not (and still can not as of the 15th may 2011) be modified. It is unlikely that HTC will release another update for this phone, meaning that users are going to be stuck on this rom. The reason? So HTC can sell new phones. However what this is doing is putting users off buying HTC's devices since rival companies have announced that the users can easily unlock the bootloaders on their devices.
To support the campaign please sign the petition at http://goo.gl/uIeqv and you can like us on facebook at http://goo.gl/e1CqN and you can see updates on my blog at http://goo.gl/KdpFr

What does everyone else think
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
It is an nice intiative, but as already stated in other toppics, htc will for sure not unlock there bootloaders. It is just this what the economy is driving on: everyone has to buy new things as much as possible. It can be done in two ways: by making a crapy device or by constanly bringing out new devices. And since the first option will make people angry and go to other manufactures, the only thing left is to make sure that every device gets outdated. And thus to lock the bootloader.
But I signed the petition anyway, perhaps it will make them go searching for other options to make money.

Looks like everyone but the U.S. is getting the Samsung Galaxy S II one way or the other and it seems like future owners have been waiting an eternity to get one. Hopefully Sprint will launch its version of the phone in a matter of weeks as what is believed to be called the Galaxy Within has been allegedly pictured above.
As you can see in the comparison shot we've put together below, the basic lines and what appear to be specifications are quite the same. Give or take a couple of details, you still have your eight-megapixel at the back but this time above the flash --which also seems larger -- instead of its left.
The Sprint logo should clear any doubts of the destination for the Within and the side buttons/rockers seem to match. With its 1.2GHz Exynos CPU coupled with 1GB of RAM, 4.3-inch Super AMOLEDPlus screen and a two-megapixel front facing camera, the Galaxy Within would be the EVO 3D's strongest competitor on Sprint. For all of you out there waiting, it should be coming soon -- late July according to rumors -- and with Android 2.3.4 at that!

Are they going to release updates to unlock bootloaders on existing phones? Seems like a bit of a slap to say this just after they've released a new line of phones (Desire S, Sensation, Incredible S)?
Still, better this than nothing.
Cool move.. HTC+Android rulez
There has been no comment yet as to whether they will make this retro to other devices. There is no technical impediment to doing so although resources would have to be applied to it on their end. Mentioned on another forum was that even if they do not go there themselves they can back door it to any number of sources in the community. I picked up an sgs2 right as they came but might have waited a little longer and looked harder at the sensation if I had known they were going to reverse their corporate direction regarding locked bootloaders.

It’s looking like Sprint has signed off on death warrants for a few of its handsets, including our nation’s first-ever 4G smartphone, the Evo 4G. According to a leaked screenshot of this internal Sprint document (discovered by SprintFeed), at least 10 phones are getting the ax.
First up on the chopping block are the pink Samsung Seek and the blue Sanyo Innuendo, which will both get their EOL (end of life) branding in the next two weeks. Then, the Motorola i1 will see its end along with the grey BlackBerry Style 9670 around the end of July/early August.
Following those funerals, September will hit and bring with it a world of pain. The white Evo 4G will be no more, along with the BlackBerry Bold 9650 (rear-camera model) and the grey BlackBerry Curve. A month later, we’ll have to say goodbye to the Samsung Epic 4G, the Samsung Transform, and the black Evo 4G.
]
Many of these models have successors that are either in the works or on shelves now. But if you’ve had your heart set on an Evo 4G, Samsung Epic 4G, or any of these other doomed phones, get your rear in gear because they won’t be around much longer.
Yeah, it will be gone by October.

Ohhhh the irony!!!! The Desire HD/Z were the devices that launched their htcsense.com service, a service that could backup all of the personal data on your phone into the cloud. Earlier this year they shut said service down and this has resulted in the death of the ICS update. They were born together and they died together. Very poetic or something...

I love HTC's hardware and design, but they screwing up the software side more and more. Can't they just release a 3.0 kernel for DHD for developers? I mean they're multi-billion dollar companies and can't even spend a few thousands to develop a 3.0 kernel? We have developers doing the same thing in their free time here . . .
I wouldn't have been this sour if they didn't say "We will release ICS for DHD next year" and went "Oh no, we won't, why? Because **** you that's why.". My next phone will be a Google phone and it will probably come from Samsung.

Just hand it out to the devs, HTC...
How about they do it like samsung or iPhone via a computer where u can back up all u data and install what ever ics they provide and restore back u data? It's just a lame excuse from them not to do it. Probably its full of bugs and all dhd newer then a year will be returned. My 2 cents

I personally think the main reason this has happened to HTC is because of the whole Beats crap. Before HTC had an image of well built technically advanced handsets and focusing on the whole Sense thing. Over the last year and a bit this has turned into Beats by Dr Dre and all that kind of nonsense.
Chill guys, put down the pitchforks. We just need source for the Desire S or Incredible S and then it'll be fully working.
"Fitting all that Ice Cream Sandwich into the Desire HD would require repartitioning the internal space, and repartitioning risks overwriting personal content"
I think HTC forgot that we have something call the micoSD card...:silly:
With most apps, photos, videos, personal data can be backup to the micoSD card, how "much" personal content will we risk to lose?
well play HTC well play :good:
