Stickmount on Nexus 7 loading apps - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there im new here on XDA but I was wondering if its possible to run Apps through stickmount using my flash drive or would I need an SD card + adapter to be able to run apps directly. Also gameloft games download an additional 2GB or so depending on the game would this download to the flash drive and be playable from the drive itself or would I need an SD card reader + SD card in order for it to work on my nexus 7 that I preordered.
editff-topic I also wanted someone to direct me on how to add a custom signature to my posts here on XDA. Thanks

Bump
anyone?

You cannot run apps through stickmount. it is only for accessing data media and other types.
all apps and app data must be on the internal memory.

Card reader
Thanks but you can run apps from an SD card. If I used my OTG cable with a SD card reader attached with a 16GB sd card will I be able to store and use my apps from there in my Nexus 7?

No, it's not a "True" SD Card, it still acts like a flash drive.

So essentially no way of running apps from outside flash storage what so ever? Just movies, pictures and files?

Right.

correct.
The internal memory setup emulates an sd card by adding an /sdcard directory.
there is no way to have another directory with that name and all apps are coded to store their information in the /sdcard directory. doing it any other way would break the app for all devices.
i can sure understand why you'd want to do that, but basically it's not possible.
best thing i can recommend is to keep all of your videos on external storage since those are the largest files you'll have.

Just thinking out loud here, but is it possible to rename the internal SD directory? I'm guessing no being that something so conceivably simple hasn't already been done.

Since you are already rooted you could always try this app it may give you the results you require. Bearing in mind that this was originally developed for the S2.

SD cards are too slow to run graphic intensive games (especially THD or Gameloft)

Concern about External Sd(Micro sd)

Is there any way install apk, games data to external sd?Can we use external sd just like a internal sd card?(Move apk, game data etc)
Some ROMS such as CM7 and MIUI have this feature, just make sure to check the list of functions a custom ROM has if external SD app storage is what you're looking for.
You can do it with Gameloft games
Here is the link for the software. It basically changes directory from standard sdcard/gameloft/games to sdcard/external_sd/Gl so game files are now stored onto your external SD card.

Welcome aboard matey, Mine came with a 16gb sd card but I have a 32GB class 10 card in my Play.
Highly recommended, the faster speed seemed to have sped up my games also as they were getting a bit jittery when I had the stock 16gb class 4 sdcard in my phone.
If you have a Mac, you can try Carbon Copy Cloner, it's free and it's awesome for cloning an entire disk (or SD card, in this case) to another one. I used it when I got a new SD card for my Play
I also use it to backup my SD card to an image file on my computer every week. Yay!

Go into your SD through windows, select all, copy to a folder. Put in the new card, select all, copy the contents over. Done.
thanks guys...

[Q] Moving Apps to SD Card

Since I got the SD card to function, I get notifications to move the app the to the SD card,
Since also charges the Nexus 7, would there be harm in moving some of these apps that I do not use that much?
I also use SBP Shell and sometimes I run out or memory. *They sent me a app to run but it dumps it to the SD Card. *I am pretty sure that I can get it to error on me before it needs recharging. *Or does anyone else run into this issue?
Thank you!
I have no idea what you're trying to ask us. unless you've done some mod that no one else has finished yet to get a separate SD card in your n7 then you're probably talking about the /sdcard/ folder?
firstly theres no need to use a apps2SD app, as its all the same on the n7. When these apps are used on phones and devices with separate SD cards, its to transfer data from the user (not superuser) area of the phone memory to the SD card, but on the n7 it reads that folder as the SD card and automatically installs everything there anyway.
I think you need to reword your question =S

Are you referring to running apps from an external mem card using an OTG cable and Stickmount?

[Q] videos to ext sd

Is it possible to copy videos stored on n10 to an external SD card?
1) Hook both the the N10 and the SD card up to your computer and copy.
2) Use Stickmount and an OTG cable to copy them.
Thanks, but, looking for a direct solution without use of a computer.

Then use Stickmount with an OTG cable. Plug an SD Card reader into the OTG cable and put your SD Card in it.

I actually have an issue with the SD card - i'm not able to write to it. It is mounted through stickmount and is shown in any explorer ( but not in the storage though) however I can't write to it (nor it is showing the content). I can 'read' the content using Nexus media Importer, but that's pretty much it
Any suggestions?
(i have rooted nexus 10)
Use FAT32 as filesystem. If you intend to store large videos (>4GB), you will have to split them into multiple linked files (using MKVtoolnix for example).
Is FAT32 the recommended way to go with sdcards as a general rule, or just in the OP's case?

fat32 is the read and write format for otg and ntfs is read only. So ya I would recommend fat32.

Foldermount, in the app store. Can't remember if I paid for it but I can put anything I want onto the external sd card and "pin" it so it looks like its on internal... Works well with a 64gb sd card...

COuld you tell me a bit more about this app? How to "pin" it?
You open the app, transfer the folder you want transfered to the external sd card and then you pin it using foldermount. It is really quite easy and the app shows you what to do the 1st time....
I've transferred my Android folder with all the appdata and obb files onto the sd card, a lot of the internal folders too. Haven't had any problems BUT I do have a class 10 samsung 64gb sd card....

I have the folder mount app and i have alredy pinned my deezer data folder since the beggining, even so my internal memory is still beeing used. As far as i can see its using both, the source folder and the destination folder.
How can i clear the source folder and only use the destination folder?

Yes, apparently when you browse through 'my files" you can see data file in both ext n int sd. But it should be using only ext sd if you have mounted it correctly. Try unmounting the game data, delete the profile from folder mount and remount it. Remember if you have done something wrong and tell. I can help you.

Yeah, i´ve done that several times alredy. Its still using my internal memory. Correct me if i am wrong but if i am downloading something to the source folder that i have pinned it should automatically go to the destination folder and don´t use my internal memory, correct?

When you use folder mount, you are prompted to transfer to destination folder and if u hit yes then it will be transferred. It works perfectly on mine. Maybe u should try formatting the sdcard n try again.

The app prompet me just like you sad but now they are both in the internal memory and in the sd card. I just wanted to use the sd card and not the internal memory.

Then first of all, unmount the game data in folder mount and delete that profile. it will prompt you to tranfer file to source. Hit no ( let it be on extsd). And then see whether the game file is still in the internal sd ? Or else try to mount a new game data present or put some game data on sd and try to mount it and note the amount of free space. after mounting, check the amount of free space. It should be different.
[MOD][10DEC] ExtSd2InternalSd v5|Increase your data storage|100% Working
Forget foldermount, this mod works like a charm on S4!
pls help to swap memory on i9500, 4.4.2
