Would you sell your GS3 for a WP8 phone? - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I'm wondering if its worth hanging on to my ATT GSIII phone and starting a whole new 2 year contract or if I should return it and wait for the Windows phone 8 to come out. Personally, I'm bored as hell from iphones and Android just never seems to be quiet there yet. After seeing the demo of WP8, it really got me interested. It basically takes the best of iOS and Android and mixes it all in a fresh new package.
I still got 3 weeks to return mines to the AT&T store, is anyone else here considering switching to a WP8 phone? I'm also interested to see what the new iphone looks like too. One thing that pisses me off about Android are that the iOS apps always look way way better than Android, Google really needs to start putting in some standards with these developers. I still can't play many of the Gameloft and EA games on this phone that I've purchased a while back.

Its all advertisement nothing elsr honestly i feel like wp is a little bit too boring customisation compared to android is no match only reason i stick whit android is because its open source and lot of customisation and so on..

Your call, but you should know that windows phones are pretty locked down/ limited with modification. If that's something you like, then android is best.

I just switched from an iphone to the S3 and I'm not sure I agree with you about the IOS apps looking better. The ones I've used that they both have in common look pretty much the same to me. As a matter of fact, some of the android versions look nicer and have a better user interface.
I have zero interest in the windows phone. Until they can compete with the number and variety of apps available for ios and android, it won't appeal to me at all.
btw, I also have 3 weeks left in my return period and I'm pretty sure I've decided to stick with the S3. Sure it has its bugs and annoyances but so will every phone. The only two things that have kept me from committing 100% to it so far are the battery life problems and the wifi problems. Time will tell.......

I wonder what the new excuse will be when the next version doesn't sell well at all. I believe the old Windows mobile still has more market share. Pretty pathetic.
It's not just Apple and android being entrenched. The os simply sucks comparatively and plenty of people simply do not like metro. Apple has a better walled garden and android has a better large open estate. Microsoft would have done better if they opened all the api and embraced developers. Instead you get a half ass iPhone. GG

Personally, I'm tired of the many modifications, so far I left mines on stock. I've gotten to the point where all that ROM flashing has gotten old and I need to do real work. On my last phone, the HTC Vivid, all I ever did was flash ROM after flash ROM for no good reason, it felt like a damn crack addiction.

I didn't like the Metro on the WP7, but that WP8 looks alot better better because you can resize them, they seem alot like widgets. Also, now you can use a MicroSD card, have dual-core processors, and have larger screens.
M$ seems to get their act straight this time around, they probably got tired of Apple taking their marketshare.

Metro is great, but having been burned by WebOS, I'd wait a year or two to see if WP8 takes off before investing in an ecosystem. My bet is they take about 7-8% marketshare and go nowhere from there. But who knows.
I think I'd take stock Jelly Bean over WP8 though.

There's a Windows style launcher on the market.

I dont see the potential in windows phone honestly i mean its just plain boring i have tried one ...
At first it felt like a new toy and over the few first day i got bored it lacks customisation that alone worth staying whit android ...
Whit the new jelly bean 4.1 it will be very hard to get beaten by windows or even ios6 ...
The future is android from my point of view...

I don't think it makes sense to ask others to a judgement call for you. Especially on an Android forum.
Re: iPhone and Android "not being quite there"—you do realize that's exactly what every reviewer says about Windows Phone 7?
Windows Phone 8 is a rewrite so I would not have high hopes for the first generation of phones. Also, the demos are made to impress. You should take them with a grain of salt.

Are you kidding me? I had to revert to an HD7 WP7 phone when I killed my Galaxy II two weeks before the Galaxy III launch and for those two weeks I wanted to stick sharp objects into my eye.
Pretty much any app worth having in WP7 costs $$$. The GPS/Nav sucks, searches are done with Bing and dealing with a corporate email account with multiple folders is just about the worst email experience ever on that phone.
I'm done experimenting with WP versions - go ahead and try WP8 when it comes out but Android seems to be a better, more open, more tweakable, more dev friendly ecosystem and I'll stay here...

Don't count Microsoft out. WP7 is a great OS.
I find the question odd seeing as the OS isn't out yet with it's new hardware. But having used WP7 I know that's it's going to be a great update. WP7 is a great OS, and while the phones might be under powered compared to apple and android phones, they still hold their own which says a lot about the optimization of the OS. Kudos to Microsoft for that. The only detracting thing is the apps, but with the new Windows 8 using Metro apps, I can easily see WP8 giving android and ios a run for their money.

While, i dont see myself standing in line for a Windows mobile device. I do enjoy the fact knowing that it will be another direction away from IOS...:good:

I am in agreement with you. We are not in need of another company hell bent on controlling us. For crying out loud why don't these company's see or understand this? I am partial towards Android. I don't mind Apple to much. Well with the exception of the whole let's sue everyone and there mother's attitude. That part pissed me off to no end. And I do hope it turns around and bites them in the ass. I do hope the never go anywhere. Because as much as I do like Android, I like the fact that Android has competition. Google is big enough and has enough money that if all competition were gone. They might just try to pull some Apple/Microsoft crap. I do think that Google and Apple are to hig as is. Just like our governments. And Microsoft is big also. But in a different way. They are like tha big dopey kid on the block. You know, the one that would like to make you his hitch but is to stupid and slow to do so? Lol!

I was like that with my HTC inspire and not so bad with my GSII. Flashed a new one every day or so. It was awful I had to try them all. I'm keeping my GSIII stock for now too. You can customize plenty through market
My bf had WP7 and it was awful. Looked nice but just wasn't practical he hated it, NEVER worked right. He had 4 within the firsts few weeks from button issues(however that was HTC issue)

Windows phones are fast and stable. I used the Samsung focus on mango for several months and I was sold on wp7. Not one single force close or lag. However, my HTC Titan had serious mic issues so I returned it and ended up with my galaxy skyrocket. I do like having the ability to customize with android, and I think the SIII would be worth the contract. The SIII will hold its value and if you decide to go wp8, just eBay or Craigslist your SIII when that time comes. I myself want the SIII but waiting for the right deal.

New Verizon and the Fascinate...my thoughts!

Ok so i have had the fascinate for a while. I switched to Verizon because they have the best service in my area. I was on ATT with Iphone before.
The phone feels cheap but a great screen
It feels smooth when useing the apps but horribly slow when using the UI itself.
99% of the market is themes and ringtones.
No new games all are ports and old games that I had on the iphone a year ago.
The UI is ugly to me unless I use Launcherpro then it gets Nice. There are no Good scrollable widgets in the market at all. So far without Launcherpro widgets would be pointless!
The GPS lock time is horrible (Yes I know theres a fix coming, which some say realy does nothing)
Ive used some of the roms with kernels in clockwork mod... honestly I see no Improvment compared to Launcherpro... touchwiz sux.
I love the hardware of this phone...except the plastic feel. But coming from a Iphone i can say It just doesnt compare. Push notification apps are rare on android.
I know this is the best option ...only option on Verizon. But I do miss my JAILBROKEN IPHONE. With a jailbroken iphone I was able to do so much more. better theming, skins , even widgets.
Just my thoughts. I expected so much more from Google.

If you don't like it, I saw that the iPhone is on sale, you could probably get a new one. GPS is fixed, just not in an official update, but it most certainly is working. And games will come, it will just take some time. Gingerbread should help significantly, as well as the growth that the Android platform has experienced the past year.

You are completely entitled to your own opinion. I just wish people didn't share them on a development site. Go to cnet or something.
good day.
I'm starting to not like this thing either. As a phone with it's basic functions, it does fine, but dammit, there is an almost TOTAL lack of attention to this thing from the dev community, which tells ME no geeks bought it.
Back when I had my TP2, there was a ton of custom roms, and constant development that made that thing very capable.
I think you can even run Froyo on a TP2 now.
F*ck me this thing sucks.

there is plenty of development going on for this phone..however its not currently here on xda
Atleast im not the only that feel this way. I thought I was missing something. I played with my friends Incredible .. I liked the UI almost the same as my Launcherpro add on.... but it looked better with a few more options....but it was slower than launcherpro.
As far as Apps well I think its going to be like that Untill Google stops the fragmentation. They should force Manufactures to update All phones in a timely manner atleast for 1 year
Ill give it till January and see if any other options are available. I love GOOGLE but Im not loving Android anymore. I think the thought of openess was a great idea. But Its lacking with developers wanting to make cool apps.
Like I said in January Ill see where Android is at. If its not moving foward in the DEV/MARKET area ill get a windows mobile or Iphone.
Thanks guys!!
Android is the platform that recent surveys have shown will receive the most new development. More so than iPhone/iPad and Windows Phone. I don't think it has to do with fragmentation so much as it takes time to realize where the market is going.
Just 6 months ago, there were only a handful of Android devices out there, and most weren't exactly powerful devices that could do gaming and many other things. Because of that, software companies put their money and time into making games for the iPhone as it could handle games better than the Android phones of the time. Given the lead time in creating a game or some of the complex apps out there, places probably only started on them recently.
Android didn't really take off until this past summer, at least not in a mass market way. There were rumored updates to devices, but no one knew how they would do where the iOS platform had a 3+ year history. Now that Android has taken off, companies are playing catch up.
I just decided to return the phone. Ill wait it out till january and see what is announced.
Just not enough good Applications to warrant being stuck on this OS. If things change maybe ill revisit it again.
Thanks guys and Goodluck.

It's been a fun ride...

...so i just sold my beloved nexus one to a good guy, i'm really curious about WP7 so an HD7 is comin my way tomorrow. I already miss my sexy nexy, I was really in love with it. It's clean design, solid alluminium case, trackball notifications are all things i'm going to miss, along with android's "do what you want with your own phone" philosophy and, of course, the amazing developers. I really feel like i'm leaving my family here Sure if i had enough money i would have kept my nexus forever, but i'm just a student so i had to sell it...
So thank you guys for the fun time here, and hope to see you again somewhere on xda, probably i'll come back to android in the future to see what's changed, surely i'll keep following the android scene!
PS: in my opinion the nexus one is still one of the best android phones even compared to the galaxy s2...crapwiz anyone? too bad gingerbread is not hardware accelerated nexus would have had a second life IMHO
Aren't the HD7's plasticy? Sounds like you'll be missing the N1 (and Android) in no time
I can't even imagine trading in my Nexus for a windows phone...the very thought makes me wanna puke
talk about taking a step backwards..
or few steps
But hey, you can enjoy the smooth animation of flying colored squares!
Scrolling on WP7 is pretty smooth and transition effects of the square icons are pretty nifty.
So enjoy your 1st day of admiring the squares before getting sick of it. Unless you like the squares, so in that case maybe one week.
As a previous Windows Phone user... 3 things:
1) LOLOLOLOLOLOL
2) Good luck
3) You'll be back
hope you like it, man. i rolled a samsung focus for a bit and i really liked it. after some maturation time, winmo 7 will be a force. enjoy it!
eric b
I have the HD7..you will like it...
...for about 6 1/2 minutes then it gets boring as ****! Best thing about the HD7 is that I have 4 Android phones as backups. (The G1, the Nexus One, the Vibrant and the MyTouch 4G) I only pop my SIM card in the HD7 whenever my MyTouch 4G battery dies or whenever I wanna watch Netflix..other than that the HD7 doesn't get used much sorry to say. Windows phone 7 gets boring very quickly after the initial "awe" of the UI's smoothness and transitions. I am actually charging my Nexus One as I type this cuz I've decided its time to mess with it once again. Save your money buddy cuz you will be wanting another Android phone within the next few days.
Once you go Android - you'll always be back sooner or later.
Was a previous Windows Phone user and you will eventually get bored or fed up with all the bugs & lag We'll be here if you decide to return to a fun filled Android
lmfao the android fan boys never cease to amaze me even more so then the apple fanboys!
As a dual user of android and wp7
you will definitely enjoy the experience
with your HD7. I love mine!
It is a much better overall experience than Android
1)No lag...Aside from the game(but even then it's not that bad)
2)Overall UI is more attractive and Fun...No gimmicks such as live wallpapers, No need to download Launcher Pro, ADW GO launcher etc.
3)Games are so much fun to play especially with the X-box live integration and Kinect will soon be coming to Wp7
4)Netflix is wonderful
5)Email/SMS is seamless and the keyboard is definitely a beast
6)Social Networking intergration--Aside from Blur, this is definitely a Wp7 strength...Even sense sucks with this
LMAO you will lose the endless hacking, flashing roms, overclocking and customization that people brag about with Android.
Also, you don't with Windows phone 7 the updates will be a lot better vs waiting around on Android and Manufacturers and Carriers
There are like 10,000 apps in the marketplace vs Androids 100,000 but then when you take in account the crap apps of Android(80%) and that Windows market place gains 2000 apps every 2 weeks...This soon will be a moot point
No 4g just yet
No ffc
No NFC
(Pretty much stuff you didnt have with the Nexus to begin with)
LMAO in all actuality, I don't see too much strengths in android! Enjoy and I hope to see you in the HD7 forums
Multi-tasking is lacking...For now. However, the update coming shortly provides a Web-os like experience which
mutli-tasks and performs much better than Android and IOS way of multi-tasking. Even without multi-tasking, apps

While I like WP-7 I think you might be over exaggerating your personal tastes to try and get your "point" across. It's a great 1st start for an OS and will get better and better but by no means is it currently better than Android...
3 things I love about WP-7 though:
1. Phone get updates on time directly from Microsoft (no carrier bullsh#t)
2. Netflix app
3. Simplistic OS and very smooth
I tried windows 7 htc surround at the store and I didn't really like it... I'm sure I'd have fun with more use but honestly android is a tinkerers delight. I liked my iphone and I loved my milestone and like wise my n1. But I think we can all agree that smart phones in general are crazy these days. Having internet access at all times has made my life information enriched. Entertained 247 lol

Current nexus one user. I owned a htc 7 mozart for a week.
I tried to use it as my primary phone. While it is usable, it is severely crippling to use if you are a pacific-asia guy. There is basically little to no support to input my prefered language onto the phone.
However, I do miss the following after selling my mozart:
1. Web browsing is smooth comparing to android. But you trade it with flash for now.
2. Mozart had much better touchscreen experience than nexus one.
3. Xbox live games, not a lot, but i do enjoy a few of them.
But wp7 had issues with me outside of localization:
1. My msn account and xbox live account is the same. And using it as my primary live account will screw up the contact list.
2. Shortage of useful apps for me.
3. Poor battery life for my mozart.
That sums it up. Hope you enjoy your hd7
Okay I have used a Nexus One as my daily device then went back to my hd2 with gingerbread, then WP7 came out and I've been using it ever since, I love it there are some things I miss like WiFi tethering but thats why I have dual boot, just for those times when I need to tether to my ipad, all three major os(IOS, Android, WP7) have there positives and negatives, my opinion is that WP7 is a mixture of IOS and Android

Thinking about an iphone over Android

EDIT: SEE POST #14.. I'VE ALREADY SWITCHED TO A THUNDERBOLT
So I've been an avid follower of android over the past year.. rooting, trying different roms.. doing some adb programming.. coming up with some simple mods etc.. No question that Android is a tinkerer's paradise!
there are a few things that irk me about android in general.. which is not necessarily android's fault.
first and foremost there seems to be an alienation between the device manufacturers and android.. in the sense Android (with it's flavors) is probably the fastest OS to get obsolete by another flavor of itself. We have Sense 3.0 that is coming up in Summer.. Droid Incredible still hasn't seen any gingerbread or sense 2.5 development OFFICIALLY!..
True there are custom roms of the same available.. but it is patchy at best in terms of the whole android experience coming from the manufacturer. We all know the limitations of the Z-roms.. a lot of us are no fans of vanilla android and so on..
Lets face it.. the camera/ 720p recording on iphone 4 is unparalleled (try it first hand to believe it).. not to mention the display is gorgeous albeit smaller.
The OS integration with the hardware is very appealing with the iphone4.
I'm getting a little tired with the constantly changing android environment. I am equally miffed at the fact that many android devices including my Droid Inc are left alone to the user to be developed and enhanced. After a year of trying roms, keeping up with mods, working out bugs, testing etc.. I think my experience as a USER of the device.. is somewhat shadowed.
I'm thinking of making a jump to the Iphone where development is more organized compared to android.
I'm not an apple fan boy.. so please don't bash me if you don't like my post
The iPhone 4 is definitely an awesome piece of hardware. I say go for it and if you get tired of that come back to android.
You will miss Android keyboards. I'm sure of that!
I've actually been thinking about the same thing. My buddy just got the iPhone 4and it's a nice phone.
Now the Incredible is my 1st smart phone and I've had it since pre-order. I rooted as soon as it became available and have been flashing ever since. I really love Android, but agree with some of the things you've discussed in the OP.
I still have till Christmas before I am eligible for an upgrade, so I have plenty of time to contemplate my decision.

My recommendation would be at least to wait for the iPhone 5. There would be no point in downgrading to a smaller screen.
Iphone 5 is not due until Fall 2012 or early 2012 at the earliest.
The only point I would disagree with is the camera/camcorder. My girlfriend has an iPhone 4, and her pictures and video do not turn out nearly as well as those from my Droid Incredible. Removing any subjective analysis, the iPhone only has a 5MP sensor compared to the Incredible's 8MP.
That said, Nokia has put out phones with much better cameras than either.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I say you go ahead and give it a go. I've played with a few iPhone 4's and they are quality pieces and very smooth. As long as you stay with Verizon, you can always return it within that 30-day period if you are unhappy with it (of course you have topay a restocking fee though).
I just can't get over the fact that everwhere you go you see someone with the same phone. I personally tend to go against the norm. I not very well acquainted with the customization of the iPhones but I have heard it's on par with what we have going with Android.

A leaked Verizon document stated differently. Also that doesn't seem to fit Apple's release patterns? Just saying.
I switched to Android from iOS and I do agree about the screen, camera and hardware but for me Android doesn't compare to iOS. If I wanted a phone that did as advertised and only that I would choose the iPhone but if I want more control and customizable options I would go with Android. That is a nice feature; being able to download ROMS and change them as you like I will agree. How much control do you need though? What options do you not have available on the iPhone that you will not live without?

Yea, I am all for customizations and like I said..I tweaked the heck out of it.. but the downside of constantly customizing is you gotta keep up with revisions, market updates, bugs etc... and pretty soon ...though the pleasure of tweaking is always there.. there is a setback to the user experience.
The one thing that I think (at this point) that I absolutely need is Widgets. Don't have that on an iphone.. and don't know if that is something I can live without.
I also came from IOS (albiet an iPod Touch). The only thing I say it beats android in is text selection. I can do everything in 1/5th the time it took me on iOS. I was VERY skeptical of Android and preferred an iPhone a year ago on Vzw. I was actually WAITING on it. I'm so glad it came this year instead of last. Now, I have absolutely ZERO desire to be sucked back into the problem that is Apple and their godlike stance over their customers.
Take that for what its worth I guess. I also have a Mac and used to love it. But after multiple times of it burning several hours of my weekend for simple things a PC did better and for free, I've become an avid "hater" of Apple (and I don't say that about many companies). They overprice everything, but they know their uses will blindly go and shell out money. Take music downloads -- iTunes may be easier to use than Amazon MP3 (before CloudDrive), but I've saved so much money over the years switching to Amazon. Lets not even go into their overrated hardware or the times where they can provide a feature but don't so they can add it in a year to make just one more money. Our Dinc's may not be top dog anymore, but at least the hardware is good enough to push us into next year and beyond.
Speaking of beyond... I'm thinking about making a security came out of Dinc when I get another phone. hehe

I couldn't imagine a life without Android inspite all of my complaints...it'd been a love affair for the past 1 year..I do have an Ipad..which is a giant iphone without the phone...
So I bought a thunderbolt today with my employee discount.
.after swapping contracts with my wife.... for about 150 bucks.. and boy do I love it!.. I thought the display would not be as good as the droid incredible... but trust me it's a lot better...and a 1550 quadrant score out the box! I guess it's time to switch communities.... thanks for everything guys.

When I was still a T-Mobile customer, I had the 1st Android powered smartphone, the HTC Dream/G1. Boy did I love that phone. Once I rooted and started flashing I couldn't stop... After the HTC Magic/MyTouch 1.2 came out, I moved to that. The story was no different there. Roms, roms, and more roms. I moved to a BlackBerry for a time after that before finally giving up and leaving Magenta in favor of Big Red. Once there I had the LG Ally, and returned that after it overheated. In exchange I walked away with the OG Droid and loved it! Eventually, I moved to the Inc after acquiring the device through a 3rd party. Once the touch display stopped functioning I got the iPhone 4 out of necessity because the Thunderbolt was delayed, delayed, delayed. I loved my iPhone, the picture/video quality was superb. Facetime was nice, and the games... Geeze I miss Infinity Blade. Anyway, I soon became tired of the OS itself. The lack of customization was rather boring. I found myself spending more money in the Cydia store than Itunes. I was constantly buying themes and whatnot. After a time I could no longer cope without Android. I found the Thunderbolt on Craigslist and traded my used iPhone for the NEW Thunderbolt! I know this was a long post, and I expect to see the classic, "Cool story bro." comments. Long story short, do what makes you happy, make a decision and stick with it. Me? I'm an Android guy through and through.

I figured I'd get at least one. Ha!
In my opinion, stick with the Android. I just had an upgrade from Verizon and I figured what the heck, let me see what all this iPhone hype is all about. Well, after my first full day with the iPhone, the only thing I can find that the iPhone has over my Incredible, is the battery life. Gmail wouldn't push unless I used a workaround, you can't hide the keyboard, no separate volume controls for the ringer, email, and text, there is no back button to go back to an app you may have left, no trackball, no weather widget with clock, I sent a ringtone that I made through MMS and there is no option to save as ringtone, you can't share youtube videos through sms-only through email, and you are tied to stupid iTunes when adding pictures and media. Like I said, the ONLY reason I am keeping this iPhone, is for the battery life. When the Droid commercial says "Droid Does", they are telling the truth. I NEVER came across anything I tried on that phone that didn't do what I needed from it. Again, these are my opinions and I'm sure an iPhone fanboy will argue my points.
As many others, I too have extensive experience using both OSs daily.
Android makes a more usable phone. iOS makes a better tablet.

so i picked up a galaxy s2 today.

found someone who needed 2 phones for their one so I traded them 2 garminfones for their galaxy s 2, I gotta say, I don't know if it's because the device is way overhyped on here or because I've just been spoiled by wp7 but this feels pretty choppy. I was told that it was just as smooth if not smoother than wp7 and upon using it all I can think is "all that power for this" paired with the terrible Samsung UI, the games which while numerous don't seem as high quality as other oses, and the keyboard I was pretty disappointed, I thought I might use it for a week and try to get used to it and dual wield it with my dvp but I just can't, its going in the phone drawer to only see the light of day when I'm developing. Honestly it doesn't seem much smoother than my dell streak that I have been using for dev purposes.

with good reason, again I hope these are just to increase post count because your statements bring absolutely nothing else to the table.
Dude, the phone is so customizable. Do a full wipe and flash it with Cognition 1.31. Add Chainfire 3D. Add a new keyboard. Quit complaining.
And in other news, i picked up a Galaxy SII yesterday and loving it. Much smoother than WP7 in my opinion and nicer than iOS.

you mean I can spend hours finding and downloading a bunch of files to void warranty and have a chance to kill my phone just to make a device that's pretty overpowered as is usable? It doesn't matter what UI replacement you toss on there, android has yet to throw together a UI replacement that's worth the effort. I understand this is xda devs and I have 6 apps on the marketplace but those are apps to improve the phone. Why should I have to download apps and different boot images and a million other things just to make one of the most powerful phones readily available useful?
Yes i think you have, i had a ZTE blade before i had the S2 and the s2 is way better for me than the Blade.

So here's how I see it. You're watching all the press coverage and reading all the outstanding reviews of the SGS2 and that it and Samsung are setting worldwide sales records. There you sit on T-Mobile, a carrier about to be made to look like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz using your single-core WP7 phone that has a whopping 6% worldwide marketshare. So you're pissed, envious, and feeling a bit stupid for your decision.
You decide to come here and post a bunch of stuff that no one's complained about on the phone before just to get a rise out of those on this forum for sport and to make yourself feel better. Your "I hate Samsung" signature's a nice touch.
Sad, very sad.
Your SGSII only sees daylight when developing....
So you do your developing during the day then??? Amazing.
I came from windows mobile phones. Did not want to walk away from that -because I was afraid I was going to mis my fav. apps- But I bought the SGSII.
If I would have known the SGSII was SO much faster, and SO many fantastic apps exist for Android, I would have bought one sooner.
I can't see how a WP could beat the SGSII. In any respect. Ever.

Yes. You've got a over one thousand posts. Sounds like you've spent many hours here already.
I'm tellin' ya. A customized SGS2 is a piece of art.
I used a lot of phones all different kinds from symbian to wp to android. I must say the fastest phone i ever had was the SGII. Normally i flash all different ROMS and keep playing with the OS. But this wasn't necessary for the SGII. I'm on stock and it works perfect.
I never liked Samsung phones with their own OS but android made me wanna try it and.. I'm loving it. It's a fast phone deal with it.
Till you have a serious issue don't come here complaining about something that no one has. If you have beef with Android go get a WP phone, If I where you i would sell the SGII while it's hot

I would love to take your sgs2 off your hands for you

I have no reason to come in trolling. I am more than happy with wp7 and love Samsung phones. My signature was listed as such when the original string of galaxy s devices came out and I got the vibrant. That was a joke of a phone and I i opted for the captivate which had the back door mechanism fall off the tracks after about 4 hours of use. Windows phone 7 is the only OS for me now, the UI is seamless across all devices, i don't have to fear that i won't be receiving the next update (got 5 so far), and it syncs with everything that's important to me without flaw. I can't wait for the next Samsung wp7 device though I'll be hard pressed to ditch the dell venue pros keyboard. Of course no one here complains of the speed issues, the vast majority who own it came from other android devices, windows mobile, or Symbian. Compared to all of those its extremely fast.
oh, and commodoor, windows mobile is not equal to windows phone. Just clarifying as i reviewed your rather extensive phone history.
All in all the phone is astounding, but it's kinda like putting windows 95 on a brand new PC, sure it functions and you can perhaps even tweak it to run somewhat fast... But it's not going to be windows 7 or windows 8
Been a Nokia Fan ever since I started Buying phones and then came Android and bought my HTC Hero and Boy did I become a FLASH JUNKIE ( still have it )
And Then Heard about WP7 and HTC having wooed me with Hero went and Got my self a HTC HD7 and I loved its simplicity ( I HAVE a IPOD TOUCH so didnt really fancy going for a IPHONE , thought It was too easy compared to Android)
ALthough I loved a lot of the things the WP7 bought, BING MAPS and NO FLASH got the better of me and off I went to get the SGS2 and give samsung a go and Me was happy again.
The Most thing I like about Samsung is getting Firmware over ODIN and thats why I still haven't rooted it.
But now MS having released MANGO for WP7 I feel love towards WP7 again and having been a NOKIA FAN I will definately buy a NOKIA WP7.
But to sum it All I love ANDROID cause of FLASH and the customisation it offers and that you dont have to rely on carriers for your updates.

Nothing like putting windows 95 on a new pc, maybe good ol' XP though, I'll give you that.
I must say, I've missed flash only twice since I ditched android but I only really used it for videos I played in browser (I don't visit many flash sites) so it didn't hurt too bad. Then the videos in mango greatly improved in quality so now I can watch any random video mostly in HD and eh... Nothing I i really miss about android. I always kept my themes minimal anyway.

I know that they are different.
What i understand is that you are afraid of fragmentation, most people are. I know where you getting at but i must say it's not that worse as one year ago. I know Hero was stuck at Android 1,5 for a looong time.
I love plain android i used it for a long time with cyanogenmod. But the TW isn't that heavily modded like the sense on HTC phones. Sense is really heavy btw. I didn't like the new metro look of the WP but that makes the choice so great.
So android gives you the choice to choose your own phone. Choose what you, that's great.
want plain android go for nexus series
want a socially integrated phone go for sense
someting between go for samsung
I'm not worried that we have to wait long for updates on Galaxy.

Alternative to GS2 i9100

Hi Guys If I am bored with my GS2 and feel a urge to buy something different.
Still remaining on Android platform what will you guys recommend.

Best advice is to go into a phone shop and have a play around with the demo devices and see what you like. There are loads of phones especially from HTC who seem to be releasing a new phone every week.
Galaxy Note or Nexus. Xperia ones are nice. But I dont trust Sony Ericsson..
Galaxy Nexus! After all its pure Google phone
If you want something different you should consider the Nokia N9. I've only tried it briefly in shop, but my god it's gorgeous.

You don't need a phone, then! You need something different! Any other phone is going to be just too simmilar to your SGS2 (which I think you should seriously reconsider fixing). Try an Open Pandora (Google it! I can't post links!), it's the closest coolest thing I can think of!
Just go buy an iPhone. You're asking if there's a better alternative to one of the best Android phones around? pfffft....our phone is a software upgrade away from being a better phone than a galaxy nexus (apart from that massive screen ofc...).
I personally think after windows 8 is released and the windows 8 tablets start flooding the market with metro ui windows phone is going to get a lot more popular too as a result. I'm waiting to see what happens but I might make the switch.
Right now i would not recommend anything for android. If you want a whole new experience, try WP7 or meego.

+1 to this.
In fact I am eying for WP 7 or furthers as my future OS. I like Microsoft and their work. If everything goes well WP will be the mostly used and popular OS within next 3-4 years.
For me it would be the Galaxy Note, it does everything the G-Nexus does, but better. All it needs is ICS. Personally I think the 5" screen is great, especially for films which I already use my GS2 for a lot.

I agree that Mango is the best mobile OS right now, but I'm not planning to replace my SGS2 any time soon. The fact is that the android ecosystem is just a lot stronger right now, everything from ROM development to app choices. ICS also looks like it makes some important strides from a quality-of-OS standpoint (though I have yet to put my hands on a Galaxy Nexus myself), so hopefully in a few months we'll see those benefits rolled into our GS2s.
I hope you're right and Windows Phone has greater traction in 3-4 years, and if it keeps going the way it's going, I may buy a windows handset in a couple years. Microsoft is still awful at marketing, though, and if average smartphone buyers know that there is something besides iPhone available, they probably have only heard of android, or maybe knew some guy who hated Windows Mobile five years ago. They've got a lot of hurdles to clear; we'll see how it goes.
To the OP: This has probably already been said to death, but the only GSM android phone that can be argued to be better than the SGS2 is the Galaxy Nexus right now. If you just want something different, I know a lot of people who like the RAZR, or you could always go for the monster of a phone that is the Note.
Having owned a nexus (ok only for a few days) i would say that the SGS2 is the better phone. Yes the Nexus has ICS and a nice screen but you are limited with Flash (ok it will come), no radio and mainly storage. I just cant live with non expandable phones with only 16gb on board. Maybe in a few months if and when the 32gb version of the nexus comes along and they have fixed flash but not now.
As shr33kant said, the SGS2 is one update (ICS) away from being a totally better phone than the Nexus.
Maybe the Note is the way forward. I have been toying with the idea myself. The screen would be massive for Video. And by the way i didnt really see / feel a difference in screen size between the SGS2 and Nexus, not sure why i didnt but i didnt.
Hope this helps.
Either the SGN or the Razr. I'd go for the latter if i were you, it seems so durable and premium...
