Old News
Before ranting about how Samsung sucks blah blah and messing up this thread, please read this --->post<--- first.
I will start a discussion about JellyBean (Android 4.1) so that our forum will not be cluttered with JB stuff.
Although i was late in viewing the live stream of google i/o i found this info over at phonearena. Jellybean will remove lag on devices that will run it? If so it would be cool to have it on our device (even though i only experience micro stutter lag). Hope it removes those little lag i experience sometimes.
Source: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Android-4.1-Jelly-Bean-is-announced-waves-goodbye-to-lag_id31659
Do you think our device will get updated to JellyBean? My personal opinion is yes because it is just a point release not a major overhaul of the OS. Maybe it will be less hassle to developers on porting it from ICS to JB than from GB to ICS (since this one is a major update). What do you guys think? Will it finally remove the micro lags we are experiencing or will it just be another android update without much improvement?

even notification bar sees improvement!!

I dun think sammy is going to release a JB rom but we will see AOSP/AOKP/CM9 for sure there's still a lot of people who haven't switched to the SGSIII

I really hope they update sgs2 to JB. Like the sgs1 which got 3 updates (from eclair, froyo then gb). I hope if sammy will update the s2 to jb they will not mess it up, although i think it will still have the same UI.

I'm a bit confused. Is JellyBean going to be version 4.1 or 5.0? :silly:

4.1

"The first side of the Jelly Bean update is the way it interacts with hardware. One of the main complaints with Androids is that it often gets laggy even on the most sophisticated devices. Google has finally radically addressed this so manufacturers and developers can make their devices lag-free. The solution is called Project Butter and it comes with triple buffering so that the CPU and GPU work without waiting for each other. This means scrolling, zooming and virtually all actions become much faster."
It took them 4 MAJOR versons to fix this! Shame on you Google!

Are you guys really gona move to an OS without Flash support?
I know i am not!

4.1 Jelly Bean
4.1 is Jelly Bean.
Super excited for the release of the new ASUS Nexus 7 tablet, which will run with 4.1 Jelly Bean.
I expect great performance from this latest update. I expect that if they are marketing it to be lag free, than it should be.
Cannot wait to see for myself!

I purposely don't have flash installed on my home PC. If a video is in Flash then they wont get my views then simple. HTML5 or GTFO!

I don't expect Samsung will release it for SGS II.
I doubt JB will be worth at all... ICS except few changes like icons ect. is worse than GB...

HTML 5 video is big FAIL.
There is no real fullscreen - Flash is the way.
YouTube tried HTML 5 and was shouted about this stupid idea

I can't wait for custom ROM based on Jelly Bean. I love the new notification bar and its parallel processing.

Sammy definately won't release this for our s2! Lets be serious now lol! Sold a **** load of s2's but don't really care when it comes down to updates! I'm looking to get a galaxy nexus for my upgrade! I don't want an s3 lol. Can't wait to try out jelly bean though

Flash is becoming obsolete. Adobe has accepted html5 is going to replace it and is ceasing support for it soon (though its pushing devs to Adobe AIR platform).
And the video play back is very good. Try you tube opt in and look for a no-ads video to test it, better than flash imo.
God, I hope we get 4.1 because Ive missed offline voice recog for years. And the other goodies look cool

GNex HSPA for $349 on Playstore, add shipping and taxes. I'm thinking about getting one myself.

Where can I find the video presentation ?

Why do you all think we won't get this for our phones? I'll be really disappointed if we don't get it. Samsung has had access to Jelly Bean for some time now (according to Google), and since it's a rather small update and well within 18 Months of our Galaxy S2's update span, we should really get it.

I just have one question: will Samsung upgrade our devices? 4.1 sounds cool, seems smoother, otherwise Google woudn't release this.

jelly bean is butter smooth, even in alpha, so no need to get bad sources who hasn't even tested jelly bean , it runs faster than ICS on a dualcore.

Samsung details Jelly Bean upgrade roadmap - Galaxy Tab 10.1/10.1v is not on the list

Our beloved tablet Galaxy 10.1/10.1.v never going to get official JB upgrade by Samsung!
Source Link:
http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-details-jelly-bean-upgrade-roadmap-and-its-not-all-good-24248943/
I know this is not Android development post, but I just want to make sure our beloved developers know the news, and they are the only ones left now that can bring fully functional JB ROMs to our tablet. I really hope they can start spending more time on JB ROM development.
Your justification/reason for posting this in the development section is definitely not sufficient.
I am disappointed by Samsung not upgrading GT 10.1 for three reasons
1. GT 10.1 was released *after* GS2, and GS2 gets JB.
2. GT 2 10.1 is so similar to GT 10.1, that if Samsung just pays a little more effort, they can upgrade GT 10.1, too.
3. GT 10.1 was a flagship device, just last year.
Probably it is because GT 10.1 did not sell well as Samsung expected, due to iPad or all that Apple legal stuff. Well, but I can still enjoy GT 10.1 as it is (4.0). And I hope Samsung would release a bigger and faster one (like 12 inch or something). Then I would sell GT 10.1 cheaply and move on to that device.
Well it is ok, i hate touchwiz as a lot of people and we have good developers that will bring CM10 full functionally, but it is mean that probably we will have problems with drivers for futures updates.
start a facebook and twitter protest along with a youtube video
I bet they will pay attention. At the least force them to release the code so others can develop it.
The points made above are very valid.
I though part of the Google agreement was devices had to be upgradeable for up to 18 months for something like that.
You think a company like Samsung would have learned from Microsoft to make their devices and software work for all of their hardware just like installing MS Windows across different brands.

That is what Google stated at I/O 2011. So this makes me wonder... 18 months from when the GTab 10.1 I/O released (March 2011) or when it released in the US (June 2011), international (July 2011;not sure cause I didn't pay attention to that release). We are within that window when they said that JB will release in Q4 for the listed devices. We are DEFINITELY in that window from when JB was announced.
That will teach us, samsung is fast abandoning devices as well as releasing them. Note to self, next time stick to everything nexus.

I agree about touchwiz, but you have to think like this: they need to release JB, so that our developer can get all the required drivers for camera and other stuff. This makes development much faster. If you check current Alpha/Experimental CM10 JB ROMs, front cam not working.
I felt really bad when I read the news, because I still really like my Galaxy Tab 10.1 even if it is 1 year old.

Yes but i think 3.1 kernel its only for P7500 i have the P7510 wifi version, someplace i look for an experimental kernel 3.1 but microphone doesnt work.
Samsung are truly morons with this crap. The Tab was my last chance with them and they just blew it.. This was their 3rd strike. My 2 year old Nexus S 4G with 512mb of RAM gets an official JB upgrade from Google (and runs great) yet the tab with a dual core and 1gb of RAM Samsung decide to skip over. Google is all about getting the most out of a product and Samsung (who ironically makes the Nexus S) is all about getting the most out of your wallet.
I had a hunch this was going to happen, but I'm still annoyed. Not so much because I can't just root, etc..... but the fact that they've given the finger to those that bought it while they support older products still. Samsung was even present when Google announced the "Android Update Alliance". Um........... atleast give us working drivers, etc.

The 3.1 kernel Samsung released is for both P7500 and P7510. If you're running official ICS now, you're using 3.1 kernel.
Figured as much.
But, my Tab with ICS and Nova launcher absolutely rocks, so to be honest, I'm not really that disappointed.
Still a geat device.

it is official news from Samsung. I just need to find the official press release link and post here. They did not say no JB for Galaxy Tab 10.1, but they did NOT included it on their JB road-map for this year and next year, so this should tell you something, unless Samsung decides to include it at last minute.
The only comments seen publically are from sites other than samsun. Sammobile is not an official site and their source was not samsung either. Suggest you all calm down. Besides, it would be like expecting win7to run on a win 95 computer expecting updates for ever more

But AOSP based jb has already been ported to 10.1 which makes it a vaible candidate since the hardware is good thus ur comparison is like comparing apple to oranges since win would never even bootup in win95 PC let alone run!

What's so special about any new android version

I wish to know that why people get excited over a new android version. I mean we have all functionality including flash on ics so why be excited over jelly bean or any new version. I mean isnt android ics perfect already on sgs3 . Why want to update to new versions. iOS or windows users get happy over an update because they r restricted like recent introduction of panorama just recently in ios and micro sd card option for windows user, as far as I say how has android improved since gingerbread.ics seems perfect to me coz it's already buttery smooth. Just wondering ?
exactly, Android is boss right now, so what's wrong with getting excited over some extra bits and bobs?
You wouldn't be asking this if you had experienced Jelly Bean on the GSIII after using ICS.
Jelly Bean is wayyyy smoother, also there are obviously many many more improvements over ICS that you or I will probably never notice, but they do make our experience better.
you can use flash in jb. I can do in jb same things I done in ics. System now is faster and smoother

Yeah i know u can use flash on Jelly bean too. I have actually flashed alot of roms, in fact using the latest JB right now .... yup agreed google now is one of the things in jelly bean, but still. Anyhow I am always happy to c new updates but i think we only see marginal improvements coz its already perfect as ics. and to be honest speed and stability is something which is exactly the same after some period of use either on ics or jelly bean.

Because this Android wonderful phone i mean wonderful toy has lot to give for time pass to all these people which you can't understand. Their life almost move around the phone only. I will say this from what I have noticed and I noticed it back when Honeycomb was coming out. Now that JB is out you hear a lot of the same about ICS as you did about HC when ICS came out. It's just an observation and find it kinda funny

There are hundreds of new tweaks and many new features are being introduced in every new android updates. Just Google don't advertise them like other phone manufacturers . If android gets stuck with Jb and no other future updates, then the whole android modding community will be clueless about what to do next.

Android 4.2 is on its way

Android 4.2 "Key Lime Pie" is already in testphase
The new Android version will not be 5.0, it will be 4.2. This version is to be tested, according to server logs already.
The associated device is, according to the sources already leaked. Androidandme believed that it is a variant of the Nexus LG Optimus G.
On the market, the Android 4.2 mobile phone would come before November.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/android-4-2-key-lime-pie-features-most-wanted
This isn't news, it's been mentioned by a few people now.
Edit: considering jb hasn't rolled out worldwide, I can only imagine when we will get this on our phones.

TBH i'm getting a bit fed up with this.
Google need to get everyone on the platform 4.1 and then once the 2.3.4 starts to disappear from users moving to newer devices on 4.1 then introduce 4.2 or 5.0 later
IF this is the case i'll be using whatever ROM is available and I wont be busting a gut to move up as it's becoming most tiresome.
I can't understand everyone moaning about not having Jellybean on the SGS3's. I've been running Jellybean on mine for ages.
After all your on xda forums, try taking control of your life's and your smartphones and flash JB yourselves instead on moaning that you have't got it.
It's a 10 minute job that anyone can do. Simple.
End of rant.

It's not Google's fault cause the OEMS take months to apply theyre custom skins, or that the carriers delay the updates for no apparent reason. They are the ones which have to accelerate this process!
Google needs to innovate, to polish things, to make Android truly the best and most complete mobile operating system. (now that everyone has a smartphone and/or a tablet and the competition is higher than ever)
//If I remember correctly at the Conference where JB was released Google said that they will share the new code with the OEMs months before the announcement of a new version of Android so that they could be prepared with the updates.
From experience
4.2 will not be developed by Uncle Sammy for sgs3 rather it will need to be ported. And by the time google have a stable release of 4.2, Sammy will just about fine tweaked JB in around 4-6 months time.
Edit

From experience
4.2 will not be developed by Uncle Sammy for sgs3 rather it will need to be ported. And by the time google have a stable release of 4.2, Sammy will just about fine tweaked JB in around 4-6 months time.
Edit
Maybe 2-3 months if we are lucky

It's not always the case. I read an article recently about the previous models getting jelly bean, like the tab 7 plus and 7.7. So they got upgraded twice from hc to jb. So it's possible we might be able to taste key lime pie but we'll have to wait again as always. Or just flash like crazy.

Why does this even bother you? So you can tell your ios friends that 67% are Now on Jellybean? Who the f cares? The people who give a crap about the latest updates know how to use google and can get then easily.
If you want to sit on stock and stew then fine, but stop crying when there's loads of alternatives.
If it's version 4.2 then it'll look like JB and ICS. Although I hate the AOSP look I'll try it.

You suggest that Google should stop improving upon Android and developing newer versions with innovative new features that keeps Android cutting edge and good competition, and instead focus on coding for SAMSUNG, LG HTC and so forth?
What a fantastic idea! I can hardly believe they haven't thought about this.
Im just curious how different it is from JB. I was thinking of flashing and rooting..but this time ima roll stock. I did the rooting cyanogenmod 7 thing with my old GT5830 (galaxy ace). But then again if the new Nexus has KLP..knowing me..ima wait til i see it..then flash it to this phone..Man XDA is a lifesaver

Because this would mean they have to read guides. And stop moaning??? What's the fun in that?

This is kind of a dream. Google Android is like a base for a soup. Samsung, HTC, etc.. are adding their own recipee to the mix and this is what is ruining the whole thing. Pure Google Nexus is much more beautiful and smooth and trouble free than the ugly Samsung UI.
4.2? Meh..
I will be more interested in 5.0 which I believe we will see a huge difference.

well if if next nexus devices really release 4.2 I wonder galaxy s2 getting or not
since should be not much different

This "news" has been out fr two weeks already, with exactly the samererference...

Let's hope it's not a mistake of Samsung Thailad
This would be nice, as 4.0 is starting to feel kind of dated after using 4.2 on the Nexus 10. I still love my 7.7 and think it's still the best 7" yet (price notwithstanding), but an OS update that isn't buggy as hell (apologies to devs working on the 7.7) would be a new lease on life.
..
Other people quoting back to the same potentially wrong source is not a confirmation......it's just noise.

What i remember the last 4.1 jb is 4.1.2 b4 they move to 4.2
via Galaxy Tab 7.7
As noted in the related thread, I'll believe it when I see it on my tab
As noted in the related thread about updates to the 7.7, I'll still believe it when I see it running on my i815. Until then it's just rumor and a possible source of frustration (for me) because I have seen and used JB (on a Nexus 7 that I formerly owned) and enjoyed the goodness that was rolled up in same.
I really want to hope this news is true and that we'll all get it eventually, but eventually may be a long time off in the future and if so, well, I'm not sure I have the patience.
Not so certain. And here's why:

Much as I am hoping for the best, I am not so sure this is the news we are all waiting for.
I am an expatriate living in Thailand. My partner is Thai and he's reasonably technical. He owns a Galaxy S3 and an 8.9" tablet. I showed him that status table from the web page that you are speculating about. I did not show him the Google translation that you are pinning your hopes on. But I asked him what the status for the 7.7 means.
He said that the wording was poorly chosen and could be interpreted many ways. In other words, a fluent Thai reader could not look at that status message and walk away with certainty about Samsung's plans. It could mean anything from "confirmed" to "to be confirmed." (The latter possibly meaning that Samsung HQ has not yet determined a decision.)
We can tell you that Thailand users did receive an OTA update for the Galaxy S3 in the past couple of weeks. So the date for that product, stated in the Thai Buddhist calendar system, is correct.
Great news !!

Wow it is great news !
The thing is, even if the rumor turns out to be true, Samsung really dropped the ball on updating this device, for legal reasons or otherwise - doesn't matter.
It would have to be the latest and greatest version of jellybean for me to even consider upgrading.
Where Samsung failed, the development community stepped up and have offered superior alternatives to what Samsung is bringing to the table.
Or hasn't to be more precise.
This is a terrific tablet and Samsung has failed epically to capitalize on its potential as a higher quality device in a sea of average tablets. And they feed this mediocrity by saturating the market with 50 versions of the same plastic garbage they are so well known for producing.

Of course Jelly bean is even better :good:
So in what you use your tablet for on a daily bases JB is better then ICS ?
I use ICS on my 7.7 and JB on my Note. Frankly for daily and normal use it's the same ****..
Problem is I have developed a odin phobie, the previous time I attempt to flash to hc, the mainboard is dead. By the time JB is out, the warranty will be over.

the legal reasons are gone. and this the best tab in specs so far for its pretty display and built quality.
even with dual core the tab performs well enough in the high end game, no reason for not support with JB

This is probably because you don't need o have decent battery life
The JB custom ROM just don't provide as much battery as Samsung's ROMs

JB is a bit more customizable and smoother on the SGS3, should be the same on the tab
