When Are We Getting a Better Working Sense 4 and Android 4 ROMs? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At this point, things that don't work are the things I need to work. Nothing has changed for nearly two months now, so I'm just curious.

the impatience and greed around here is unbelievable...
if you want something to be fully working and perfect, you gotta make it yourself. plus rushing things isn't gonna do any good at all. it will come, just be patient... be glad we even have a Sense 4 ROM...

Dude, seriously, it was a question. That's it. Not a complaint, not impatience, and not greed. The assumptions of others on this forum is what is really unbelievable. I knew that some joker would answer back like that.

Saranhai is part of the team that brings a lot of ROM's to this device. He is probably a little frustrated that it seems like is never good enough, or fast enough for people. Your question may have been honest and purely innocent, but with the way things have been around here lately his reaction is somewhat understandable.
Several devs are hard at work on sense 4 kernels and the camera. When they have a usable fix, it will be released. If you want to add to their resolve you could always donate

I'm patiently waiting too. And so you know, I'm posting this in a good mood, not frustrated or being smart. But from what I understand is its basically at a standstill until devs can get the necassary kernel to get the camera working. It's not that they are being slow..they simply don't have what's needed to accomplish it. And I may be entirely wrong..that's just what I have been thinking.

Okay. I understand, not saying anybody is being slow. I just wanted to know what the issue was. It's crazy that Sense seems to be the most troublesome UI.

Take it at face value MF. It's my fault that you put your own thoughts into a simple question? Seriously, it's all too common on XDA for people to needlessly attack others on the basis that people are too sensitive.
See the answer that JJ gave? That's all that we needed. I wanted to know the issues the devs were facing? If anything I was concerned, because I've never seen something give this kind of trouble on this phone. We all appreciate the works that devs do. We all act like kids in a candy store for the work that devs do.

Team Inferno member ...Awesome... is releasing a One S port. Yes, One S. Hope that fits your needs (besides camera )

did you really need a thread to ask for an ETA on something thats not even meant for our phone? cmon son lol

I too am impatiently waiting for a upgrade

I think it got a little hot outside to the point it heated everything, even in the internet.... xD

The issue is that there's no HTC official kernel source for any "sister" devices - DHD/DS, and they didn't get the HTC ICS update either. Without the kernel source, devs have to use kernel source from other, less compatible devices to compile the kernel, and the binary drivers from those devices don't match the HW. There are no skilled enough and/or willing enough devs to dig in the kernel code and rewrite the API towards the drivers to match the older, working drivers from Gingerbread (that's what was done back in Gingerbread release time), mostly because it's a huge work that brings almost no benefits - the official code is likely to be better anyway, and its release will most likely be closer to this point in time than the shortest time required for "enthusiast" work.

I think in layman terms, that means if someone attempted to rewrite source code to match the h/w in the Glacier, by the time they would finish, better & more compatible code would be here anyway. So its best, at this point, to just wait patiently?

Bootloader And Android 2.4

Hello,
I am planing on the Atrix for august when I will be in the US,
And I wonder- do you think the Bootloader will be cracked untill then?
Or Motorola Unlock it/ update to- 2.4?
Thank You,
Daniel

Sigh, August is way to long...
wow it sound really pessimistic.
I am following the DEVS thread and it looks like they found something and soon the will find a way to hack this...
they havent posted in the bootloader thread in a couple of days, so i dont know whats going on. its killing me too.
i cant make heads or tales of what they have done as of yet, but i can say that it looks better for us now that they have a way to recover (the sbf) if they mess something up. a lot of things things they can try now that they may not have wanted to before, for fear of brick
Not really pessimistic, just neutral. We can make guesses but there is no way to be certain the loader will be broken or whether motorola will give up and unsign it. They have stated we will get 2.3 for sure, but 2.4 is a toss up still.

Well thats sucks.
2.3 doesn't bring any important changes, and it does take time to make the update.
waste of time..
well it just means that if the devs here won't get to bootloader hacked the milestone story will be back.

Who cares about 2.3? 2.4 is what everyone's after...
GPU-accelerated UI and Browser
Built-in Gtalk video chat support
Multi-language browser support
And as Matias Duarte implied, all the Honeycomb design changes will be in 2.4
So who cares about 2.3? Not me. If the Atrix isn't released unsigned in Canada, and unless the XDA hacks it, I will be going for the Nexus S, and sticking with the Nexus line for the next few years...
Hard to speak about 2.4, as we don't have much of a clue about it. But loading custom kernels and the like is really making me re-think the decision about buying the Atrix...
Not to be a downer in this thread, but I wouldn't hold your breath for the unlocked bootloader, but it is nice that some fresh minds are going at it.
With that said, the devs for the D2 and DX have been able to set the users up with a good amount of customization.

HE GOT A WAY TO PASS THE BOOTLOADER!!!!
HOPE HE WILL PUBLISH A WAY TO PASS IT SOON!!!
Its still being tested but DA G has had some success. No one else has posted anything else. I think the reason the bootloader thread has been quiet is because there in an irc were they can talk easier. We prob wont hear anythkng new until they have made some progress. I'm just glad we have the sbf file. That's a big step. Ill be happy if we can get motoblur removed.

yeah, but factory rooting.....hehe, see HTC's "web unlocker" you can root it, but they will want every single detail about your phone, so they can automaticly void the warrenty.
hopefully samsung won't control the development otherwise devices might not receive updates anymore
So is this good or bad for us? I dont think i would be able to live with out any more updates for my phone running cyanogenmod.
Could a thread title possibly be more misleading??? I'm kinda scratching my head at some of these replies after reading the article. Nobody bought CM! The CM dev was hired on at Samsung!
Well, considering Cyanogen is the developer's nickname and CyanogenMod is the ROM he's developed, what's wrong with the title?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
If this is true, and Steve continues to work on his "side project" after Samsung forbids him to do so, he could find himself facing an onerous lawsuit from his employer.
It is known as a form of "poison pill". A company hires someone who can or does make a dent into their profits. After a while, they "discover" his work and forbid him to work on it ever again. He continues to work on it and the employer sues, claiming millions in lost revenue. At best, he is out hundreds of thousands before he settles out of court.
From someone who has seen this scenario played out more than once...
Edited title of this thread due to confusion.
Cyanogen = Developer of CyanogenMod
CyanogenMOD = ROM that was developed by Cyanogen
Samsung hires Cyanogen. The CM ROM won't be affected, since it is a side project of his. He is currently employed, and developing his ROM isn't his full time job (although developing constantly, you could make a case for it being a full time job!). CM the ROM won't be affected by this. Updates will continue as always, and Samsung has nothing to do with the CM ROM.
The CM Team was given a Samsung phone a while back and told to "get CM7 running on it", which was pretty cool on Samsung's part. I am sure they are interested in the ROM, since it is great, and updates are frequent to address issues that arise. BUT Samsung does not own the CM ROM, they've merely hired the ROM's creator, Cyanogen.
I think this is a huge leap forward for both samsung and the CM7 community.
Sent from my 2.3.5 Incredible Obsession
the way i see it, win win
Samsung got another dev to work on their android lineup
Cyanogen got a new job because he has a rom for...countless devices (most of which have been EOL'd by now, namely the OG droid and Droid Incredible) on his resume.
this will not effect cm7, at all, he will continue to operate it as a side-project, samsung did this because they want to keep up with Sense and MotorBlur. (touchwiz has room for major improovements too)

That's kinda like saying I bought General Motors because I bought a Chevy Cobalt. "Hires" makes more sense because you hire men and buy slaves. Sorry... It's not just you. I think the title in the article is ridiculous too. You just passed it along, really. THEY should know better, but this is the problem with amateur journalism that lacks any sort of valid editorial process.
I doubt this will mean any kind of merge though, for those wondering. I see lots of confidentiality agreements in this man's future, and possibly having to divorce himself from the CM project to some degree to avoid questions of intellectual property ownership. Just my thought....
Congrats to Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik. I see a lot of good coming from this.

I'd say a few weeks for unstable ports, then a month or two for CM9 nightlies and eventually a stable build.

Why would they put 2.3 on the hero and g1. Simple answer. Because they can. Quit being a douche. If you can't be constructive then throw your keyboard/phone/tablet in the trash.

Edit: Also remember that CM7 was on these phones pretty quick. The devs in our community know these phones. Plus the experience of doing it once might just make it a little easier to do it again. I remember from the Eris forums the devs saying it was easier to get 2.3 since they already battled through 2.2.
I'm also willing to bet you will see ICS for the g1 and hero also. Once again, just to say they did it!

Yeah....no.
That is why the dev community is so cherished on Android, they keep old phones up to date. If they only worked on new phones, which will see these updates officially anyway, what's the freaking point? The G2 is a phone the devs (including Cyanogen himself) really like. So spend a little bit getting informed next time.

That's the whole point of these development forums: to provide old, unsupported devices with the latest updates since the manufacturer won't.

Can you tell me what phone out there with a keyboard is as nice as the Desire Z? I seriously don't know of any. The Captivate Glide looks like it's a contender but it has a grid keyboard, doesn't look like it'll have a notification LED, camera button, or the trackpad.

Ever since FCM came out, seems like everyone and their mothers making ROMS...
Have you noticed that the quality of ROMS gone down since the FCM release?
Do you find it annoying to seee 4 different CM9 KANG's without the ability to know which one would be best to use ?
Not saying I dont appreciate the FREE ROMS... but, I mean, seems like people are just quickly slappying together a few quick mods on someone elses ROM, renaming it.. then calling it their own.

The new roms are from cm9 kangs, which fcm has nothing to do with, and rdanner's ports. Which also have nothing to do with fcm. We also have Nottach making a new rom based on 2.3.6, and marko doing the same thing. Once again, neither have any affiliation with fcm... So what's the problem with development kicking off?

Well I thought a development boom was a good thing. If you read descriptions they might say alpha build and if you think some of the newer roms aren't as high quality stick with what you know. I personally like choices and trying new things. Waiting patiently for miui to improve haven't touched cm9 probably wont until camera works. Just consider things and read what works before you flash things.

In case you don't know, joker is one of the devs compiled/posted a CM9 kang. The OP targeted the CM9 kangs among other ROMs. Look at the dev section.
Look, I apologize if my post came off as I was bashing.. I was not bashing.
Endlessevo get's where I am coming from... FCM is a great thing, I love it!
Basically, He hit the nail on the head.. It's quantity ~ Quality thing...
EXAMPLE: I see some ROMS which warrant framework changes for animation purposes, etc... The same thing can be achieved by using Rom Toolbox pro..... Change the fonts.. add a wallpaper pack, launcher, put another kernel... FCM it, give it some random name, and now you have a new ROM.
I totally agree with Dev's like nootiach (spelling?) who put little hidden boobie traps in their work so people can warrant the credit where it is due.
I guess what I am trying to get at is, I miss groundbreaking work~!!! Like, when CM was ported, or Miui.. This is some groundbreaking stuff.. Now you go to the dev. section, and you have a handful of CM9 kangs
Sorry if Im ranting... but I want to talk to someone about it... Jesus christ, if I talk to my wife about it, she'd be pissed I spend this much thought on this
/rant

Because there isn't a whole lot more to do to our phones except optimizing what we have already, and porting over android 4.0. Our dev team isn't done, but the groundbreaking work that you want is.

BTW, I am really stoked for CM9 and the future beyond.. The work that goes into all this is difficult. Maybe deep down inside, It is me just getting bored with the hobby?
Sorry about the post, and I respect all the guys who do, do this.
I don't think you quite understand what kang means.
All unofficial cm roms are kangs, even ones that are in development to become official cm. Like mine. To become official everything major must work without breaking other phones. So if you want official cm9 someone must fix the problems. The little groundbreaking work you are wanting is the kangs. Yes the atrix team laid ground work to get cm9 ported but they stopped working on it. I was given cm9 only a few weeks ago when the photon cm dev moved to a different phone. He didn't even have cm9 up. Only cm7. I'm not making a temporary kang to satisfy ics thirst. I'm making the fixes to go official.
Also if you read up only one cm9 is current and going forward. Guess who's
Btw I don't even have an atrix, I'm blind building

Yep, your probably correct
Again, not bashing anyone.
AND... Thats freaking nuts to be blind building. My mind cant work that way
Ah, good old fashioned elitism.
"We dare not allow yon peons to learn reading nor writing, lest they gain initiative!"
Quantity and quality are not mutually exclusive. that's the Apple Mentality, and its a trap.
I find in the [SIMILAR] Linux communities lots of fresh blood means a greater chance for future prodigys and dedicated devs. Give folks a chance, and practice discretion when flashing.

I did check to see if that's what he was being so butt hurt about. I figured because it was a second thought to his original rant and the fact joker defended the wrong part of the rant he knew why he was defending himself.
His complaints about the KANG's was not being able to tell the difference between them, not that they were simple tweaks turned into roms.
Long day. Plus complaining about free work equals thread
