Verizon dont have voice calling feature? - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

I just checked the LTE vesion that was released today on their website it doest seems to have a voice calling feature as the top speaker where the front camera is located is missing so this means its just a data only tablet?

Yep, just like how the US Galaxy tab 7 had voice feature removed too. US carriers hate having devices that does it all. They ask to have stuff their way/take stuff out so they can make people buy multiple devices + multiple plans. Also that's probably why it takes many months for new devices to come here after being released in many areas. I hate US carriers and their carrier customized devices.

Thats a bummer im almost ready to purchased one but if thats the case then i'll pass and just get the international version although i did notice that the verizon have the IR blaster that was removed on the international version

It was alwas known that the tabs for US carriers will be voice disabled, so why wait all this time and be dissapointed, just but import.

The IR blaster is gimmicky and stupid. Don't fall for it. If you want to use your device to control stuff, get RedEye for Android.

Meh, that Redeye unit is an additional $200. I mean, I'm not excited about the IR blaster but someone who had to manage home theater devices in various locations would get a lot of mileage out of it. As more new devices have built-in wifi and corresponding apps it will be kind of vestigial, but for now it seems like a useful thing to have.

True, the RedEye is expensive, but it's an investment which you can continue to use with future devices as the current one become obsolete.

So confused so many toys....

I still havent bought my GSIII as i see to many models being launched with favorable features.
Need some tips and help to choose here, here i put my thoughts or try to do so and hope others can jump in and share their view.
Galaxy SIII:
---------------------
+ Like the color
+ Like the size
+ Price is now pretty good
- only 1Gig Ram
Galaxy SIII 4G
---------------------
This just came in to a store near me, from what i read this has some key benefits
- LTE of course, but is this really a benefit? i mean in Sweden 3G is very fast so i never have speed issue, also adding LTE did they remove any WCDMA band? i dont find much detail on this subject
+ 2Gig Ram (what i like most on this model)
- Back key+ menu key is visible, make the phone less attractive in my opinion
- Black color not as nice as White but not sure, i havent seen it yet.
NoteII and NoteII 4G
-------------------------
+ I like the big screen
+ Stylus, not sure how much i will use though
- Afraid its to big to carry with me daily
+/-Some of the GSIII 4G also valid here, Note II is out in Sweden but not 4G. Not sure if 4G is superior if some WCDMA bands are removed. Anyone who knows?
So what to do Wish i was super reach and could get 2-3 of them but i'm not so need to decide on one of 4 models.
Any idea which i should go for?
Considering the 3G/LTE, what has been removed from the 3G model when LTE been added?
Thanks for any input on the matter.
Suggest you wait for sgs4

GSIII 4G!!
Just from what you said I think you should go with the GSIII 4G, the 2GB RAM would be great.
Although my GSIII I9300 is fast without the extra RAM.
And if you really cant decide then just wait for the GS4
I'd go for nokia luma 920 windows phone. The reviews blows away anything else money can buy. In fact, you can buy my Sgs3 if you like so I can buy the 920

Brilliant logic, "Wait for the SGS4" waits till its out "should I get the SGS4" "wait for the SGS5"
I would go for the LTE version, if you can get LTE (which seeing as it's out I would assume you do) however LTE is supposed to be a huge battery drain. I also do not think the WCDMA band will be removed, but in the store ask to have a look at one and check yourself.
Go for 19305 lte version. You said you don't care about the data speed. It's about phone speed. Having 2gb ram on your device is just making it perfect.

Seriously sgs4 wont be out until next summer, SIII just came out
Anyway i just picked up my S3 4G, its very beautiful so the pictures dont do it justice. I havent played much yet as i'm moving my contacts from my iPhone to google and prepare the move. Will give more feedback once i have played a bit.
Regarding the bands, on the SIII box it clearly says what band it support but on SIII 4G it does not mention anything just LTE and 3G. The guy at the store said it has everything SIII has + LTE but i still dont believe him. I think they just copy/paste the spec from SIII and added the LTE bands below.
Whats important is what you guys said that it has more RAM and that makes it more attractive
Let me get back to you guys once i play a bit more on it.
Thanks for all the feedback.
You may also want to consider samsung note II which was launced this week in UK.
In case you decide to return your SGSIII.
iphone 5 is the correct choice.:good:

Agree 920 seems to be a pretty decent phone but windows phones are pretty "young" in lack of better word.
Both iOS and Android have been out for years and matured both within the OS and application wise. Hardware wise i think they both are more aggressive (not that it matters much if the OS is fluid and optimized).
I think next month i'm actually getting an iphone5 as well. I'm a phone freak and usually get 1-2 phones a year
Next year maybe i get a windows phone when it has matures both OS and Hardware and application wise....
Either way all these phones are great and have their pros and cons so as long as your happy thats what matters
For developer support, don't go for the I9305. I doubt developers will care about that phone more than the I9300.
Go for Note II instead for me.
Actually the hardware is pretty identical except the modem and more ram. But i get your point.
On the other hand i think LTE is getting bigger by the day since Apple made iPhone5 and the shops here are now promoting this model much more since they want more LTE phones out there so i dont think it takes long before the focus changes but thats just my guess.
One thing i hate now is the stability , i'm uploading a 10min long video on youtube which shows after 7 min use i get a reboot and another 3min application crash (google map).
If this phone is this bad i cant blame people moving to iPhone really. I never ever had reboot on my iPhone just by playing with it. Maybe it did a reboot after 6 month heavy use.
I'm trying hard to like Android but the stability is mind boggling for me at this point.
Lol I've uploaded for hours on dropbox I don't see how it's androids fault or the i9305 it's most probably the server or your connection and I was an iPhone user and there is no way in hell I would ever think of going back

Sorry but your comment dont make any sense at all!
3-4 crashes when i talk on the phone and each time phone re-boots? whats that got to do with server? also after the fast reboot sound is distorted and i cant make a call. I have to again re-boot manually to get the sound back.
Google maps crash, server issue? think not.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxljTE1zaEs
@7:30: start and close dropbox and phone reboots (happens allot, as mentioned above today during phone call 3-4 times alone)
@9:15: google map crash (other applications do the exact same so not related to only googlemap)
So yes the OS is unstable as hell in my opinion and it has nothing to do with server. And even if there were a server involved it shouldn't reboot!

You have done something to your system to make it unstable. Reflash stock and those problems will go away.
Some customised ROMs are slimmed down by their developer who doesnt use that particular service which then results in crashing when you use it.
If you are on stock ROM and you havent messed with it then firstly update youtube and maps and all apps through play store.
Disable screen lock ripple effect uses alot of RAM.
As for iphone (which is a reasonable phone for the average user ) then customisation is very limited especially to system files so your not going to get instability.
SGS3 is IMHO a better phone but not out of the box it needs some debloating and tweaking.

Sprint to announce that they will allow their phones on Boost Mobile now.

Looks like the flashing to boost biz is screwed, but great news for those that want a better line up.

Well I doubt flashing will bw affected majorly. A lot of people who flash phones don't use phones with a good ESN, they use a bad esn phone.

Yes a lot of them do, however, as an experienced flasher myself, I have flashed more active Sprint handsets than those with bad esns. It is the same reason why we people requesting a service like that has gone down so much. In the several stores I oversee, people use to come in everyday and ask for their phones to be flashed. But, since the Evo Design and Galaxy S2 released, we see maybe 1 person a week.

holy crap so phones cira 2009? the samsung prevail, the first android phone boost had was higher specced than the moment or the heroc
what do you mean 2009? will people be able to activate S2 S3 phones or not ? I know both the S2 and S3 are compatible with boost because I use them BOTH on boost (and boost even sells the S2 now)
So, got more information. They are going to roll it out with 15 current handsets and then progressively migrate the rest of the line up into compatibility with Boost. I am guessing they want to do some kind of soft-rollout to ensure that it goes smoothly. We'll see. As far as the material is concerned, I believe they are going to change the tearpads and window vinyls to reflect more current handsets. As far as specific information on what phones, I havent seen the list yet.

the flier shows off some old devices, and the tiny text at the bottom says select devices, ergo i dont expect people buying a brand new sgs3 skipping sprint without paying the etf and jumping to boost are gunan be welcomed much.

Premium Suite Upgrade for SIII

Samsung has announced that its flagship Galaxy S3 smartphone will receive the company's Premium Suite upgrade pack.
Part 1
Part 2
Ugh... What can I say?
Yeah, I can't stand all these people, including samsung, referring to it as some sort of standalone premium suite upgrade when it is actually just the 4.1.2 update.
Premium is such a weird word to choose. I showed the vids to some non-tech S3 owners and they honestly thought it was a addon of a sort you had to buy
The low light camera mode is probably my favorite new addition..it was sorely needed.

One faces are detected
Anyone else notice Samsung screwed up in the video and showed the 5x5 grid from Note 2 in a few of the screens? Because as far as I know S3 is only ever gonna get 4x5.
And I hope this isn't the start of Samsung using idiotic Apple-esque names for all the features instead of just calling it what it is.
Why do you honestly care? If it helps the company make money to pay apples law suits then I really don't care.

So far i love all the sammy proprietary features in my GSIII and i like the way they support their flagship phone. And to be honest it's the first android phone i own, in which i have no desire to switch to an AOSP or AOKP rom... or even MIUI. It simply has everything i need.
The night mode in Camera is simply superb and well executed. It denoises photos efficiently and provide sharp and blur-less images. Also the new "Best Face" feature is brilliant, especially while taking family/friend photos.
The multiview, apart from making 2 apps in one screen possible, acts as a nifty little launcher too, so no real need for 3rd party apps like swipepad and the rest (especially with the various "all apps" mods). Although i wish it would be assigned to a button other than the "back" one.
The contexual tags in photos are ok i guess, but my main complaint here is that the weather/buddy tags are not EXIF compliant, meaning that the info will be stored in the gallery app instead of the images.
And the best of all is that my free memory stays more or less the same as with previous roms (currently on ARHDv17)
Now you might be *****ing about how Samsung advertises the new update or about the changes being for the better or the worse, but at the end of the day i would prefer Samsung over any other competent manufacturers which bring out phones and forget about them and their user base... (hint hint!).
if only they would release that damned Exynos documentation...
The video is cheesy and funny as hell, but its directed to the common user, not us who probably had most of this features ported from Note II before Samsung announced it would implement to SIII.
I know I had most of those on 4.1.1.
Hope this "Premium Upgrade" also comes to the SII
So when are we going to get it? I assume it will be a OTA update? I'm on O2 UK...
Yes, eventually it will be OTA updates too, but for now we have to use what samfirmware offers us.

Sadly, not. At least not yet. MasterCard/Visa recently made support for mobile card emulation, but it will probably take a lot of time before your bank will realize and make support for it as well, if ever. Especially for us from small countries like SK/CZ. I would also love to pay by phone, but seems like it's very far away feature.

Well, that's not really googles fault, as it's more of the bank fault by not supporting your phone. As you said, some phones can pay by NFC, but at least in CZ, that's in combination of bank and mobile carrier (so you have to have the correct bank and operator) and then these two guys decide which phone is going to be supported and which won't.

LG G4 Review After 1 Month...2 downsides

LG G4 Review after 1 Month. My 2 main gripes with the G4 is the touchscreen sensitivity issue I've been getting lately (not sure if it's just my unit) and the battery life. Haven't been able to get through a full day yet. Would also like to know if any of you have the problem with frame drops when scrolling through 20+ notifications.
Other than that, it's pretty solid!

Ah, nice to know. Will be doing the same here.
I will probably be switching to one plus two, nexus 2015 (or upcoming HTC aero flagship) if nothing changes
lack of root and custom ROMs (cyanogenmod in particular) is killing me as LG UI lags and looks awful (switching to custom launcher does not fix all of the issues), also I want to be able to install adblock..
regarding battery I am not able to get more than 3.5h of SOT with fixed brightness at 65% - the most SOT I've had was 4h5min (and this is with GPS, bluetooth, NFC disabled and only viber, gmail, weather widget and facebook sync on)
double tap to wake is horrible to use as it does not register taps properly so i have to tap multiple times before the phone wakes up..driving me nuts
sound is really bad (especially compared to sony z1 i had previously) - headphones lack bass and volume isnt as loud
positives:
screen and cameras are brilliant, handling is ok (have the plastic back, but it did not slip once), phone feels solid in hand

It's not LG, it's the carriers.
Actually it IS LG, not the carriers. Carriers can be blamed for ATT, T-mobile, Verizon, etc. versions of the phone being locked. There's no reason why the USA H815 variant or the Unlocked Taiwan H815 variants don't have bootloader unlocks other than the fact that LG is lazy.

Yes and many phones don't have that gap. For example, HTC unlocked One m7 from the get-go. Hence it's a legitimate complaint. By your logic, as long as one other product has the same flaw you can't comment on that flaw.
I'm not expecting everything to be unlocked (like the carriers), but it's not an unreasonable expectation to think H815's of all regions (non carrier affiliated) should be unlocked.
i've taken the ota update (was automatic as soon as the store turned it on) and i still notice some touch issues, not too much a nuisance as just something i notice and have to think about. no issues at all with dt2w/dt2s, both work equally well. battery is great for me, well over a day, and i have screen on times well over 2 hours or more and leave nfc, wifi, lte, gps all on all the time, leave brightness at auto.
also to the OP, dont think i have had that many notifications so cant speak to that, but sometimes scrolling through a long list in settings or something similar sometimes lags. for a phone with 3gb ram i would not expect that, but once we get some bloat off that might change
FWIW, Google finally recognized the mobile drain bug

Which many phones. The xperias have a lag, then there is more lag for the roms to catch up. To enjoy your xperia with mature roms you're looking at 6-10months after launch.
What happens then ? people upgrade to the next model and can't handle the transition. Why upgrade in the first place. Why not wait. it took this long to get your device exactly the way you wanted it. Why dump it and go for the latest & greatest.
I might jump on that N5 2015 or OnePlus 2 ship as well. I'll definitely keep the G4 for it's brilliant camera though..but I NEED my fix of pure Android haha

Right, this is something people will have to decide on, unlock that bootloader and that awesome camera is history.
Nice review man, cinematic. The accent cracked me up, don't hear 'trini' accents very often
Like the camera stand did you make it.
What I found was the biggest slow down of the device was the clip tray. If I didn't clear it every now and than device would crawl

Unlocking the boot loader causes damage? What kind of silly FUD is that?!
And many devices meaning all Nexus devices, the Motorola devices I've used, as well as HTC's flagship have unlockable bootloaders from the start.
But that's not the point. As long as one device on Earth has no unlock lag, then it is considered a drawback vs the other device.

losing the nexus & motorola camera isn't a big deal you prolly want to use 3rd party cameras with them anyway. so no big loss.
the xperias require you to wait until the vendor tells you its ok to unlock the bootloader. Do it any earlier and you are hosed.
i suppose htc has something similar. One hopes LG will follow suit here. Otherwise its camera 2api and raw for every shot.
samsungs are problematic. unlock the bootloader, blow away the stock firmware and the camera and you are left with will be 3rd party only. Stock based roms only. If that floats your boat then great but the whole point is to get away from stock. No AOSP.
Feel free to tell me otherwise

LG G4 Review after 1 Month. My 2 main gripes with the G4 is the touchscreen sensitivity issue I've been getting lately (not sure if it's just my unit) and the battery life. Haven't been able to get through a full day yet. Would also like to know if any of you have the problem with frame drops when scrolling through 20+ notifications.
Other than that, it's pretty solid!

I was having severe battery issues. My phone was hot to the touch all of the time. It all went away when I factory reset the phone. My theory is it needed a factory reset after the update I received the first time I turned it on.
