Subtitles not displaying in HDMI - Acer Iconia A500

Like the title states. I tried dice player,.mobo, etc. Anyone know of a fix?
Btw movie is mkv if it matters.

honestly, I do not understand your problem:
-subtitles are displayed correctly on-screen and not on the TV via HDMI ?
-subtitles (inside MKV containers) are not displayed at all, neither on-screen nor on TV?
have you tried external subtitles?

What I mean is, on the a500 the subs are displayed, on the TV they aren't present.
I tried BSplayer in software decoding mode, which worked, but video was very slow & out of sync with audio.
I tried external subs with bsplayer, no success.

hello, i had the same issue because the HDMI output is somehow a cropped version of the tablet display. the Lower part is cropped and hence subtitle are not displayed on the TV. Good news is there is a trick to overcome this issue: if you use mx video player there is an option to resyncrhonize the subtitle. when you use this options subtitles are displayed a bit higher in the frame and are not cropped out any more on the TV display. Hope this will help.

The subtitles are definitely not being cropped. I can see the full picture on the monitor & tablet.. Here's a pic:

Could you please post step-by-step instructions to turn on subtitle re-synchronization? I think I found it but it's not working so I want to make sure.

I just flashed back to Thor's honeycomb ROM v14.2, this subtitle bug is not present so it was an ICS issue. hopefully when Thor incorporates the leaked drivers & etc into his build of ics, these issues will be fixed.

after the ICS update I got the same problem: subtitles are not dipayed on the TV (via HDMI)
I think it's an ICS issue. It's soo frustrating: one step forward, two steps back.
any known workarounds?

It's a known bug. Please vote(star).
Same issue across all players on Asus TF700T / ICS and H/W decoding.

Looks like enoght. I only need .avi I tried .mkv but it has problems with sound. Dont know if it is problem of program or of my computer.
- You can set a lot of containers and codecs
-you can set your bitrate and other things, resolution, pad etc.
-you can burn in subtitles, it supports many formats like .srt and .sub and few more like .ass lol

about 3rd picture : dont press activate high quality settings. If I did, my encoding crashed when started.
about 4th picture : I put 800*440 because of aspect ratio and I want to play it in Album. If you want to play in WMP, you got 2 ways :
1.) stretch it to 800x480
2.) set 800x480 but also set pad 20 bottom and 20 top, so your aspect ratio will be same as input.
I prefer this program because of .srt subtitles support. If you dont need subtitles, then you can choose from many converters. I would suggest handbrake which is free and also has 2pass option.
I get superior results to MP4, if I:
Select Pocket Player -> iPhone -> iPhone AVC H264
Select "iPhone H264 high quality" from the drop-down menu
Push "Settings" link and set:
Audio to double channel 128 kbits/secVideo to 1024 kbits/sec
And happy converting
Very smooth playback (in WMP), virtually no compression artifacting (blocky ****, which is what you get going through just MP4, apperantly MP4 is not the same as iPhone MP4). Currently trying to find the limit of kbits/sec on the video, 1500 is just a little too much, get choppy playback, 1024 is just too little, get very minor blockiness.
Hope this helps and love to have some feedback.
nice
Thank you
Nice tool !!
I really got to say million thanks to you!!!!!! And I finally found a perfect video converter for everything!!!! It is truly H264 converter, and the quality is absolutely good!!

video on the phone. Need help fast.

I have great problems in getting videos to play on the phone.
Basicly I have an avi file. (Ok, it is a downloaded series). The phone will not play it directly. That i candey understand. But I have tried converting. The program used is handbrake. I found a guide on the internet of how settings to use. The video gets converted to mp4. The strange ting is that i did it for more than one file, but only one would play on the phone. Used a media detail program and everything was equal. File size after conversion is aprox 500Mb. I'm able to watch both on the computer. Please google "Samsung i9000 and handbrake guide" to see the settings. Does anybody know what is wrong?
If someone have other guides on how to get the phone to play avi video on(downloaded). Please feel free to direct me to them or write here. I really Needed help.
I'm connecting the phone as mass storage when transfering to external sd card.
the stock player plays proper mp4 just fine (H264 video and AAC audio at least)
mp4 is the contained, and H264/AAC the video and audio formats inside the container
you may just get for example rockplayer from the market and try to play your file with it as a quick shortcut as well, it plays a lot more formats than the stock player
Get Rockplayer or Arc Media Player
works like a charm

Make videos larger on the Xoom

AR Resize
Download: http://www.sendspace.com/file/qt61s0
Description: Adjust video aspect to better fit widescreen videos onto mobile devices' screens. Very fast, no video recoding. Windows-based. MP4 only.
Use: Unzip to a folder. Drag-drop videos onto AR_RESIZE.CMD to change their aspects. To restore to original aspect, drag-drop on AR_RESTORE.CMD.
Notes:
. Degree of aspect change is adjustable. To change, edit AR_RESIZE.CMD and search for set "_fudge=7". Possible values are from 0 to 10, where 0 = no video aspect change, and 10 = change to fully fit device screen. Samples below.
. Since this changes a value in the MP4 container, not all players are compliant. Anamorphic videos may be less compatible. Feedback on Xoom player (and 3rd-party Droid players) are welcomed.
DVD Catalyst just added this functionality too for Xoom rip although I am no fan of stretching my videos around.
Cool editing the MP4 info though.
The above is non-permanent and reversible, which is vastly preferable to having to re-encoding the video. As of this point, it doesn't do side-cropping, since I know of no way to do soft-cropping via MP4 container specs.
I'll implement soft-crop once there is a decent media player for Android that can handle the MKV format. MKVMerge has a cropping function, but sadly, most players won't recognize it. Since the MKV container is sponsored by the Core peeps, I'll be certain to get them to implement it for CorePlayer (if it's not already), and I'll be on the VLC forums as well.
I've always hated watching TV's where people distort the sd to widescreen. if the ratio isn't set properly it drives me crazy.
I agree, distorting AR isn't a good option, but it's between the bad and the worse. There are a few gazillion tablets out there with 4:3 aspect.
Which of the below looks the worst to you?
I hadn't realized that Leonidas was made out of the same material that Gumby is...Thanks for this.
Better image resizing examples. First image is of 300 trailer (2.41 AR) on the iPad, second is of same on the Xoom.

First one as original... 2nd one after zooming in.... and 3rd one below full stretched even whn its not zoomed in ... only this video coming proper... rest are all cut from side and top.
here are 2 things that u ca do
1) try playing the vids without converting
2) try any other video player (mvideo player from market)
Try using rockplayer and at the bottom there's the stretch/eesize options. Also try not to convert as our phones fit it to size.

Hmmm, when I downloading something from youtube it is in mp4 format, not flv.
Sent from my super fast Galaxy 3
Actually you can download both mp4 and flv from youtube, sometimes there is only low resolution videos that can only be downloaded as flv.
To make the job easy you can include some extensions or addons to your browser.
You can use "Chrome YouTube Downloader" for Chrome and "DownloadHelper" for firefox. Both of them give you the option to chose between mp4 and flv.
Finally, if you want full screen videos you have to convert videos to the "aspect ratio" of your mobile. I think in this case "aspect ratio" is more important than resolution.
Good luck

Does XBMC need a plugin loaded to do that?
Update:
Figured it out... was the UPnP service, Got it running right now on my Nexus 7 using a Raspberry Pi with XBMC hooked up to my 60" HDTV....
While it is limited (not quite mirroring), it is pretty close. I am playing some Youtube stuff on it now. I also played a ripped version of Avatar I had on the Tablet.

Huh? There is no USB cable involved.
This is a Wireless (over WiFi) connection from the Tablet to a device (or TV) that has a WiFi signal to accept the connection to then display it on the Screen.
There is no USB involved. I have it working right now.

In the above, the Raspberry Pi has XBMC running in it.
The limits are the application Shot Beam. It can...
o Display what Photos images you have on your Device
o Play music files you have ON your Device
o Display what Videos you have on your Device
o Use your device's Network to Display YouTube
o Use your device's Network to Display Reddit Videos
See screen shot of App
Screen shot of app playing video
What it doesn't do, is display anything on your device which some people call mirroring.
The app appears to work okay, though it does fail a lot while playing videos. I'm not sure if it is the app wacking out, or the WiFi signal but based on other things I've done, the WiFi doesn't appear to be the issue.
