[Q]Problems with apps on Ad-hoc - Kindle Fire General

Ok, so I am using ZT180 Adhoc Switcher to connect to my Galaxy S II's (Epic 4G Touch) 4G webs via Wireless Tether.
I am able to use facebook, Words with Friends, Google Reader (not perfect), the Market and many other apps' web capabilities without a problem. i.e. Facebook works as it would on a wifi network.
However, many of my apps don't recognize my internet connection even though it is there. So, is there anything I can do to make all of my apps recognize my wireless tether connection or am I stuck using the select few that work?

Search search search search. This tells you how to set up a infrastructure network.

I'm using ZT180 to switch from Infrastructure to Adhoc so I can tether. That part is taken care of. I have internet on my Kindle from my phone.
The problem is that some apps recognize it and some apps don't.

The point is, you don't NEED to use adhoc at all. Setting up the phone as I already explained in the other thread and it will be set up in infrastructure mode, and the Kindle will connect with no issue.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Should have read more into it.

Well I finally got Wireless Tether beta working, but I'm having the same problem where apps such as Dolphin Browser will not work, but Facebook will.
I'm using an Infrastructure connection, but many apps will not recognize it anyway...
Do I need to uninstall the ZT180 switcher in order to remove files from system/etc/wifi??
My wifi icon still has the small 'x' in the right hand corner.

I would try to remove it. I tether to my phone all the time and have no issues with Dolphin or any other apps.

I uninstalled the app and deleted the "tiwlan.ini_ZTO..." that came with it, but I still see the ZT180 Adhoc Switcher and Warning AdHoc_Mode as wireless networks that i can connect to...

Epic Touch 4g has various issues with infrastructure mode. Best answer I can give you is to install a recovery and flash blazer rom. Its Sprint hotspot fully supports 4G infrastructure mode.

Wow, I can't believe I overlooked this. I'm running Blazer 3.2 and previously i had looked in the Wireless and Network settings for the Hotspot settings, but since it was not there I had just assumed PhantomHacker left it out of the build.
long story short - i activated the Sprint Hotspot app that was in my app drawer and it's working flawlessly!
Thanks so much! Surely I won't be charged from Sprint for this? I'll post in the Blazer forum as well.

Sorry for the late reply, but ive been running the hotspot for a whole wig no ill effects

[Q] ps3 connecting to evo 4g

I recently rooted my EVO 4G and downloaded the wifi tethering app. So, a couple questions. 1. Is this an ad hoc network? 2. I dont think ps3 supports ad hoc networks, so is there a way to connect my laptop to my phone and have the laptop act as the AP (non ad hoc).
Nevermind, figured it out. I guess the android wireless tether app is not ad hoc. As my ps3 was able to connect. Worked extremely good by the way.
How did you do it? I need to test it with my G2 but with my slide the ps3 didn't even see the signal from my phone - or if it did, it didn't up on the connection list after scanning.
Use calk sprint hotspot hack works flawlessly

And how would you change the NAT settings to open using WiFi tether? Call of Duty black ops is on strict when using wifi tether, no lag or anything just hard to connected to friends???

Slow Tethering Speeds

Hey all,
Time Warner as cut me off, so I am now relying on tethering from my droid 2. The main devices I want to tether are a laptop and ps3. Only the ps3 I am assuming would be a bandwidth eater, the laptop is mainly on standby. Currently, I am using the 3G hotspot (green icon) and even browsing online is very slow. Is there any way to boost the connection speeds so it is somewhat "3G"?
Thanx
Try using the wireless tether for root users on the market

could you post a link...there are tons of tethers on the market, are you refering to the green wifi logo one?
You cannot use Wireless tether from the market as it uses Ad Hoc not Infrastructure (PS3 needs Infrastructure). The PS3 and Xbox consoles actually use an extremely small amount of bandwidth.
Now to your question I would reboot before tethering and make sure you use Fissions ROM or basically any ROM that cuts down on blur since blur draws a lot of data at random intervals. Also dial *228 and do option 2 to optimize your network.
Finally, if you live in a city there may be a lot of people using the same tower which could slow your speeds drastically.

That's not true as of the latest version. I downloaded the new version from the Market last night and it forced infrastructure mode.

Great find! Didn't know they finally added it!

can ya link to the latest version please?
Its in the market just search Wireless Tether, its the first one.
My PC doesn't work well with my phone in infrastructure mode, so I believe I'm one of the few that don't like it. There is also no option to change it back to ad-hoc, either.
Try using barnacle tether. Same thing (your phone is a wireless hotspot) but should use ad hoc.

don't use access control on either of them because there is some kernel problem on the DROID2 and it dosen't allow access control or something so if you try to use it, it probably won't work or it will be super slow. Should be fine without AC though.

[Guide] Tethering 4G on Nexus S 4G as AP not Ad-Hoc Connection

The Nexus S 4G will allow you to tether 3G or 4G using most of the apps in the market such as Wireless Tether or the built in hotspot app (3G only), but these methods turn your NS4G into an Ad-Hoc network. Some devices, my notebook computer for instance won't accept an Ad-Hoc connection so I found another (Simple IMO) method.
Some background:
My brother has an Evo 4G and he has never had any issues tethering to my notebook computer using 4G so I wanted to find out why. Turns out Evo's use a different method of tethering. They do not broadcast as an Ad-Hoc network they use a completely different method of tethering called "SoftAP". This essentially makes Evo's think they are actual Access Points, which any wi-fi enabled device can connect to.
I found a way to make my NS4G work in this manner using the WiFi Tether app, very similar to the Wireless Tether app in the market.
Prerequisites:
MUST be rooted.
Make a nandroid backup ( better safe than sorry)
Have some time to toy with the settings if the ones listed below don't work (which they should)
Download and Install attached file "WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta6" on your NS4G and grant SU permissions.
Open app and go to Settings-> and change to the following below:
Change Device-Profile: Samsung Galaxy S
Change Setup-Method: Netd (Master)
Once you change those settings you will be able to tether as an Access Point and not as an Ad-Hoc connection allowing you to connect and tether your 4G with pretty much any wifi device.
You may have to play around with the different variations of the options but the ones I have given above should work just fine.
**One thing I should note, the only issue I've had with this is set up is when you stop the connection. The app might "Force Close" and on occasion reboot the device. But that is a small price that I pay to tether my 4G connection.
Let me know if this method works for you just so I can confirm it wasn't a fluke on my end!
Hope this helps anyone with similar tethering issues.

Wireless Tether is blocked for us 4G users on the market. The last version that I was able to download from the market was 2.0.7 and it didn't include the softAP option. While I never have had a problem running in ad-hoc mode it's good to know the app has been updated since 2.0.7, thanks joesloco for the heads-up.
btw your instructions worked for me I was able to connect with 4G through an actual AP instead of an ad-hoc network.
Shuts my 4g and 3g down waaaaah!!!

My Nexus S 4G is running on latest stable version of Cyanogenmod.
As far I know, the 4G switch/widget is broken in this version.
When I turn it on from settings, 4G scans for a while and then it says disconnected. Does 4G work with Cyanogenmod? Any patch required? Or should I replace with a different ROM?
I'm in a major city that has Sprint 4G coverage.
How could I get 4G tethering working?
Thank you.
Great guide. I forgot all about this when I used it on my optimus.
I heard that this is faster than the native one. Is that true?

[Q] How do you tether on the Kindle Fire?

Just got an HTC Rezound and was just wondering if I could tether my Kindle Fire with my phone and use it's 4G connection when I'm not at home or near WIFI? I apologize if this has been covered but I couldn't find any updated threads on this.
If I'm able to can someone please tell me a working tether application that I can use and how to use it properly. I haven't tethered since my OG.
Thanks everyone.
if your phone is able to operate as hotspot then you need nothing at the kf
i'm using zt-180 adhoc switcher from the market to tether with pc (connectify)
this has also been reported to work with phones which only support adhoc mode

Yes, my Rezound has a hotspot app if that is what you mean, its the official Verizon mobile hotspot app? It came preinstalled on the phone. Verizon charges to use the app though.
I was just curious if I could install an app on my phone and kindle fire so my kindle fire could use the 4G from my phone to access the internet, etc.? So if I'm in a car I can just turn my phone on and my KF will have internet. How do I do that with the app your talking about?
If you want to use Mobil hotspots from Verizon that will work but it will cost you monthly to use. If you don't want to spend any lotr than you have to, you will need to root your phone and install Wireless Tether from Google marketplace and you should be fine.

tether apps that work with kindle

i have no internetz at my house, so im forced to tether. i have am epic 4g and the hacked sprint hotspot works ok, but wifi tether for root users wont show up on my kindle.
does anyone know of any other apps so i can tether my kindle to my phone??
im rooted with market, no recovery or rom yet, but ill flash a rom if it will help this.
i like the stock rom bc of the lockscreens that change every time... i like that.
You need an app called zt-180 ad-hoc switcher. Download it on your fire and follow the on screen instructions

ok im on stock romk plus root, it says im not rooted. the app says that i mean.......do i havr to flash a rom for this to work?
I installed wireless_tether_2_0_7.apk on my Rezound and my Kindle Fire works fine, I didn't have do anything special.
WiFi Tether version 3.1-pre110. It works flawlessly when tethering with my Galaxy Nexus, I don't have to adjust any settings.
i have wifi ver 2.0.7 as well, is there something on my epic i need to do? this is killing me, bc i want to put cm7 on my phone but 4g doesnt work with sprints hotspot but does with wifi for root users. and i have plenty of 4g here so i wanna use it
You shouldn't have to flash a Rom for it to work. You have to leave it named androidtether. Try updating your su binaries

I'm using wireless tether for root users on my 3d to get Internet and it works fine. I did have to change some under the hood stuff to get 4g to work so that might be why my Fire works with it.

Wifi tether will work, you just have to get the settings right. Open the app, hit Menu, then hit the checkboxes next to "Enable MSS clamping" and "Enable Routing-fix". After that you should be good to go.
I have wireless tether for root users ver 2.0.7
I don't see any settings like that in my app... what app are you talking about?
Maybe someone post a fresh wifi tether for root users 2.0.7
Or any app that works.

maybe my experience is helping:
is the network in infrastructure mode (normal hotspot) -> don't need any software
is it a adhoc network -> use zt-180 adhoc switcher (make correct settings - ssid - wep key if needed)
Wifi hotspot and usb tether
By SVTP
Works fine.
What I use is a Rom on my phone, android has wifi tether built in, the carriers just disable. Flash a Rom and use androids native tether, free and simple

Cant post links yet because I havent reached the magical 8 post number yet but just go to google and type wireless tether, the first site that comes up in search takes you to the place to download the different wifi apps.
