getjar app market - Kindle Fire General

I thought about rooting mine to get market access since I got apps on there and I wanted to replace the KF launcher. Though I came across getjar and was able to replace the launcher with Go Launcher. Its running pretty smooth but I was wondering if anyone know about getjar market and their apps. Is it like a black market for hosting apps? I scanned it with av and it seems fine. Saw a thread in a different forum but they didn't talk much about it other than the notification and airpush problem.

It's a perfectly legal app store, no need to worry!
Devs allow/publish their free apps/free versions of apps on there, for I guess convience.

I jz installed go launcher then uninstalled getjar cuz that thing is running constantly. Having replaced launcher jz gave this thing a whole new look

If you Uninstall Getjar does it go into your cloud?

I'll have to take a look at it.

No .. all these apps are installed on your devices and once uninstalled its gone. I think you're talking about apps from amazon market that after you uninstalled it still shows in your cloud app drawer. If you want to remove those go to amazon.com and under apps and devices just remove them there then go back to app store let it loads and refreshes and it will disappear from your device. Try the getjar market if you want additional apps outside of Amazon wo rooting. Also they currently have a promotion with 100 paid apps for free.

With many recent incidents about malicious apps .. I prefer android market or amazon market .. I only downloaded the launcher from getjar cuz couldn't find it on Amazon .. rather pay a few bucks to be safe and support development

These 2 test apps came from TippingPoint to show how easy it is to deliver an unsecure app to a phone. These apps are not dangerous.
Did they give you a refund?

I think the apps were for free. TippingPoint removed the apps already from the market but a lot of people installed these apps manually.

Haha, that cnet article has been changed now. They found out it was fear-mongering by iPhone fans. For example, a contacts application needs access to your contacts. Sound the alarm, they are stealing my data!

[Q] Amazon App Store and Android Market

Hey Everyone,
I haven't seen anything on the Epic forums about this yet... so here is my piece.
I got the Amazon app store the other day, and I'm pretty impressed. The most impressive feature, to me, isn't the free app a day... it is the fact that it remembers your purchases/downloads. I've wiped my phone yesterday to start from scratch, and as soon as I reinstalled the Amazon App Store, it asked me if I wanted to view my purchased apps. I clicked each one, they downloaded and installed.
The part I don't get, is why can't the Android Market do the same thing? You are required to put in a user/pass (just like amazon app store)... so what prevents them from at least remembering what apps you've downloaded and provide the links to re-download them? I've used Titanium Backup to back up and restore, but I'm not convinced that it doesn't create problems (phone runs much smoother and with less problems when I don't use Titanium Backup to restore).
I know this was long, and you've probably lost interest already... but if anyone has any info or knowledge on the subject, please chime in!
That is all.
Actually my nexus one does auto restore from android market, so it might be a feature in gingerbread.

The market does remember your purchese apps. When I had the moment then switched to the epic all the apps I bought came up on this phone when I loged in on to my gmail acc

Ok, maybe I need to clarify a bit...
I haven't "purchased" any apps from the Android Market or the Amazon App Store. I've downloaded numerous free apps.
I would imagine paid apps get re-linked... but what about the free apps you've purchased?
I've been playing around with ROMS... so after every wipe, I go in to the market... and nothing is there.
If this is a feature in Gingerbread, it will be awesome. I would never worry or hesitate to wipe my phone if I had an issue. It isn't downloading the apps that bother me, it's searching for each one individually.
For some reason the epic doesnt have the back up data thing that aosp phones do.
When you sign in, it automatically redownloads and installs everyapp you had installed.
Also, on market.android.com you can see everything youve downloaded and install it by hand.
I agree that its stupid the epic is missing that feature. My hero running cm6 has it

DK28 had the app restore feature, not sure why it was removed since.

Wow, never knew about this. So if I wipe my phone, I can log into market.android.com and it will redownload all of my apps for me? As nice as it would be to have it all on the device, logging in to the website isn't bad at all!
A lot of the reviews of the Amazon Appstore never seem to mention what I personally think is a killer feature: sorting and filtering.
At any step of the way, you can choose to only view 3+/4+/5+ star apps, among other options. As soon as I heard about the new store, before it even came out, I had high hopes for sorting, knowing it's one of the great features of Amazon.com.
Google tends to shun sorting/filtering in favor of typed search queries. You can see this in the almost religious devotion to search in gmail, where sorting by anything but date is impossible without using a third party client--and this limitation is vehemently defended by Gmail supporters.
In this regard, I think Amazon will remain on top. I just don't see Google backpeddling on this philosophy, and the Android Market will remain dominated by algorithms and search queries.

A little off topic but Sense 2.0 ROMS do that also. I've been running Myn's and Mik's Desire Z ports on my Evo and whenever you log back in with your Gmail account all of your apps, paid and free, automatically start downloading to the phone. Pretty neat feature.
Yep, got a Wifi Xoom today, and sure enough about 90% of my installed apps came over...all of my purchased apps are available for redownload.
Same thing happened when I switched from HeroC to Epic.
This re-download was a new feature of 2.2, and you have to have 2.2 and be going to 2.2+ to restore.

How make make my phone better.

Anyone have any tips that I could use to make my Android/Atrix experience better.
Any tips?
*Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Oh sorry, didn't see it. Don't need to swear at me.
Here is my tip from my shallow experience with the phone and android.
1. do factory reset after your phone has been fully charged to 100% for 4hours-ish while its turned off
2. get before update root
3. update to 1.57
4. do the post update root
5. get titanium backup pro and go to the freeze the applications under the safelist.
6. get an launcher (I bought launcherpro plus, but i think just launcherpro is just as good... because the only major perks i've noticed was the launcherpro widgets and widget resizing)
7. freeze the motoblur home(after installing another launcher like lpp)
8. download screengrabber app (it works on rooted phone and I like using it, you may not need a screen capture program)
9. do the webtop mod if you want to try it. you need android sdk first to do adb commands. (I tried it to see how lapdock would feel like and I found it pretty good)
I love launcher pro, as it looks so nice!!! 3d app drawer and home screen flipping animations, and overall so many settings you can customize. (# of app row, column etc)

thank you so much!
Haven't used the phone, but just look around under the forums and find some guides. Atleast you will be able to find a guide to root it and such which will make life much better and more open for improvement best of luck.

That was pretty pointless...
no need to cuss...
I was in the same boat as the OP and it was hard for me to search through the massive massive amount of info on this forum.
No need to be so hostile... There has been alot of hate on the forum lately. I know it gets annoying when the new users start asking questions that can be found by searching. But, you have two sensible choices: 1. give them some tips so they know what to search for, or 2. don't reply to thread and let the thread die off...
Dude, You better calm down! I just got banned a couple days for fighting with somebody and cursing and you have a ****load of posts just like this! I had 2 posts then banned! You've been lucky so far but all someones gotta do is report you and then here comes the ban hammer!
No ones even starting with you! This guy just asked a question! Calm down!
if you dont need stuff like email, calendar and contacts updated to the minute its a good idea to disable this feature in settings and with titanium backup. theres a big thread in the dev section about what apps from att that are safe to freeze with titanium. this alone will significantly increase your battery life.

and if you're feeling real brave??.... You could root the **** out of it and flash gingerblur or gladiatrix or the newest rom greyblur!! Im about to flash greyblur right now!
If you want a gingerbead look to your phone, as well as getting rid of the hideous white notification bar, you should try out GingerBlur, a pseudo-rom for the Atrix.
GrayBlur has also been released, which I'll be trying out shortly.
Get a launcher. If you have the money (15$) I would buy SPB Shell. That is one amazing launcher. Or just get one of the many others like ADW, Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, etc.
If you want to tether (data plan required), go to the dev section to get the tethering APN for mobile hotspot.
Install Tenfar's custom bootstrap recovery. Allows you to flash ROMs.
Install the Amazon App market. A free paid app a day (games too).
And last but not least: check out the themes section. Lots of cool themes and boot images.

Yeah as long as you reinstall amazon appstore all the time with it and I was reading that the appstore is kind of a form of spyware and require too much info from the user.
Uninstall appstore and you'll see. I had angry birds rio and a few others for free. I uninstalled the appstore and then my apps just stopped working! I heard this would happen but didnt believe it! But it is 100% true! Which like I said sucks!
How do I disable MotoBlur using TiBu?
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
Get GO Launcher EX. It's so much smoother than stock, you'll love it. I just returned to it after using LauncherPro Plus for a few weeks. Features on LauncherPro are great, but it had some stability issues for me, and GO Launcher is MUCH smoother and consistent for me. There are a lot of themes for it as well.

I really can't grasp the new market

I might make myself look really stupid here but I struggle to use the new market
Al i can seem to get to is either
Top paid apps
Top free apps
Trending apps
Editors choice
Where's the tab to just take to the newest apps?! I don't want to see the same apps all the time!
On my Dell Streak i can just hit the newest apps tab and i get the latest additions to the market......
tablet market sucks

You can get around that quite easy and get the free app of the day atleast! Glad I didnt miss out on all the popcap daily freebies!
well I've been trying to use the android web market page but it seems whatever I select (and pay for!) They state they will be downloaded to my tablet shortly.......
They never arrive, I then look in the normal market to get my purchase and the don't appear. I've had about 5 apps like that.

No market access

is it true this can't access the general android market?
i trust xda will be able to add the normal market to it

The Amazon Appstore developers pay no fee for the first year, and have no restrictions regarding their locations (as the Android Market imposes). So, I can easily imagine that many people will want to have their apps listed there. I guess you can check today, how many apps are there that you can find on the Android Market but are not on the Amazon Appstore. Actually, I know of several examples of the opposite.
I know quite a few apps I use regularly that are not available in Amazon Appstore, Dolphin HD comes to mind immediately.

Yeah, that's the downside to having such a customized version of the OS - it's not receiving official Google certification.
The Amazon app store is growing, and if the Kindle Fire sells well enough, which it should, more developers will be inclined to submit their apps.
I just hope amazon improves the app store experience, it's still miles behind Googe's, which isn't so great itself.
I recall reading something a while back that if one uninstalls the Amazon Apps Store from your device, the apps you downloaded from Amazon Apps Store cease to function until you reinstall the Amazon App Store applet.
Urban legend? Sounds a bit hinky but disturbing if true.
I use the amazon app store on my HTC desire.
I'll uninstall and let you know tomorrow what happens with all the apps from Amazon APp Store.
But regardless, I would still keep the Amazon App Store because it gives you one free app every day.

Completely true. I discovered it by accident when I deleted the App Store app, then tried to play my 'free app of the day' copy of Angry Birds Rio a few days later. No dice! Worked fine again once I reinstalled Amazon App Store, however.
Can also confirm: any amazon app store apps must have the amazon app store present on the device to work. Kind of a pain in the butt to be honest but hey, it's their store they can impose those restrictions.
When submitting app to Amazon Appstore you can choose to use DRM they provide - that might be the reason for this requirement. Apps that don't use DRM will probably work without the Amazon Appstore on device. (but I might be wrong)
